The location to train station made us pick this hotel. The attentive and helpful staff were amazing, especially Gabriel. The room needed maintenance though, door to get into our room was hard to close and open. Curtains hanging down, pictures on wall without frames, tea pot and cups needed cleaning. Fan was not working but was replaced. I know the building is old but we stayed in three hotels/inns before arriving at this location and they were much more renovated and maintained.

The staff were wonderful! I am giving four stars because my room was a sauna, even on days I did not shower - just no air/moisture circulation at all. I opened a window while I was awake and in the room, but that only did so much. I booked this hotel because it was close to the train station, and I am very glad to have made that decision - not having to haul my bags up hill through Bath was great!

Horrifying and unapologetically bad service. Never again. The only thing saving this place from a zero star review is that the roof or ceiling didn’t actively leak on us. Mold, mildew, rotting floors, 20+ yr old beds and linens all of questionable cleanliness…no assistance whatsoever from staff.

Overall great stay and location was perfect! It took a while for the water in the shower to get hot, and the steam in the bathroom took a long time to dissipate. Air movement even with a window open was pretty stale, but the fan in the room helped. Very comfortable beds, and comfortable stay otherwise! Staff was fantastic, quick to help and answer questions!!

This is a cute little hotel located in the center of town near all the best shopping and food and it also has its own restaurant and bar on site. The staff was so much fun and pleasant to talk with and to get recommendations for food to get information for shopping and sightseeing. it was just an all-around great experience for me being there and interacting with them. I can’t wait to go back and I highly recommend it.

We booked the hotel primarily because it has a few customer car parking spaces round the back. The location was good and the building historic, having been designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, when it was called the Royal Station Hotel. Our room was a little tired but fine for our needs. It did not look like any of the photos on the website. The hot water supply was a little reluctant, taking well over a minute to arrive in the room. Even though the hotel was directly opposite the train station it was not too noisy. Breakfast was very good. There was a good selection of fruit, cooked options, pastries, yogurt and cereals. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had a great couple of days exploring Bath and the Royal Hotel was a good base.

This is quaint old hotel, very reasonably priced, so we weren't expecting modern luxury. It is super convenient for the railway station and close to all the things you want to see in the city.
We wanted to drop our bags off early, and the desk staff could not have been more helpful, and he was very friendly for our whole visit.
Our room was smaller than some of the other ones we saw, but fine for us. All in all, we were very happy with our choice.

We had a lovely stay, close to the train station and walking around Bath city.
Staff were very helpful and quite professional. Breakfast was served and a great choice. Being close to the station meant some late night noise, but nothing to spoil the stay.
Parking is available but limited. I would definitely recommend this hotel to you!

Perfect location just across from the rail station and close to retaurants and attractions. The room was comfortable and clean. The staff was helpful and friendly. The hotel was built in the 1840s and you may need to run the tap for 2-3 minutes to get hot water for your shower.

The Royal Hotel has a couple of things going for it — it’s directly across the street from the train station AND it has a lift!

A couple of things going against it — the WiFi reminded me of dial-up, glacially slow and iffy. Also, there doesn’t seem to be a way for a guest to set the room temp. Unless you count the tabletop plug-in fan?

Staff were generally helpful, Tim at the front desk and the women working the breakfast room, too.

The hotel was very cute and cozy which was nice. It was very clean and tidy. The staff was great and breakfast which was included was very good.
However if you like having hot water when you turn it on (I’m not kidding it took over five minutes of running the hot water until the water started getting warm), if you like your shower to be warm and comfortable, if you like to use the hotel WiFi, if you like your room’s door to lock when you close it (the door to my room would not lock, the staff did offer to change rooms) if you want convenient parking then maybe look elsewhere.

Convenient location to the train and bus staions, however, I would not stay here again. I could have stayed at a nicer place for the same price if I had walked another block. The door to the room and the door to the bathroom were both in exceptionally poor condition. The bed was uncomfortable and the carpeting was old. I should have selected a hotel than was centrally located rather than near transportation.

The staff are amazing and the breakfast was a surprising delight.

My biggest issue was the need for the rooms to be better. The beds had serious stains on the mattress that had me thinking there had been a murder scene in there. The sheets were clean enough but I always pull back the sheets to check for bed bugs and was horrified. It definitely had seen better days. The mattress was also flattened. I like a hard bed but I don’t like to feel the springs. I’m sure the staff would have accommodated, but honestly it just seemed like the hotel had seen better days.

They do a great job of trying to make it nicer, but management or the owner need to buy new beds and remodel.

Lovely stay, staff really make it, they do everything for you to ensure you have an enjoyable stay. Ideal location just opposite to Bath Spa station, close to roman baths, bath Abbey, all the shops etc. Hotel has a lot of history so does have creaky floors and you can hear some movement from others but was all ok for us. Great breakfast, full English and continental. Large walk in shower but did take some time to warm up, but when did the pressure was good. Tea and coffee facilities in room and replenished everyday, with biscuits too. Small lift but only small hotel anyway so is OK. Really enjoyed stay, think ideal for any visitors to bath. Staff very friendly and welcoming.

The staff were very nice and had no issues with them, the surrounding area was great, plenty of shops and things to explore.
The Hotel needs a fair amount of work to bring it up, the room although clean needs redecorating, scuffed torn wallpaper, chipped furniture, cracked tiles are not a good look. The room is next to the town centre but it was very noisy so we hardly slept, two beds were pushed together and they were very uncomfortable, one dipped to one side when you laid on it.
The food was nice but the restaurant needs decorating as well, damp on the ceiling and down the wall, tables and chairs are scuffed, carpet not great, this is no reflection on the waiting staff as they were very nice and professional. The scrambled eggs at breakfast were like rubber, no care taken to cook those, poached eggs were fine though.
The hotel has a lot of competition around it so it needs to up it's game to get returning customers.

Lovely staff. Very friendly. Excellent breakfast. Room was clean and spacious. Lovely old character to the building. Great shower. Great part of Bath town, not far from centre and next to train station. Lots of tea and coffee in the room which was great as most places don’t give you enough.
Hotel is looking a bit tired in places and could do with a freshen up. For example, the stairwell- worn carpet and wallpaper starting to peel. Our bathroom had cracked tiles. Hand soap near the basin and bath would be great, as it was only at shower height which meant leaning around a wall if using the sink or standing up when using the bath. There was a soap bar but I didn’t want to open it to use it when only staying for one night.
We had a lovely stay. Thank you.

I didn’t have breakfast, so can’t rate that. I had dinner in the Brasserie and thought it excellent value. Would definitely stay this hotel again.

The hotel is located across from Bath Spa train station.
Checking in, we waited 10 minutes while the desk clerk talked to other visitors, not registering, just talking.
The check in area is very small, and there is nowhere to sit, as the locals view this as a place to gather. And do not give way for guests.
We went to the room, which was very worn, while it was clean, there had been spills on the carpet, the walls had dings and scrapes, the inside of the door had been kicked in.
Hard to find light switches, the bathroom light was placed behind the TV screen. There was a shade on the main bedroom window, but no drapes. The hot water in the sink never worked, and the hot water in the bath/shower often dribbled down to lukewarm flow. This over the entire four days.
The breakfast was ok, with about six offerings. But the food was barely warm.
We ate dinner there one night, and the food was indifferently prepared/barely warm. The hotel was full, but competing with local folks to sit in the two lounge areas was discouraging. One evening we came in and the locals had filled the area and were not moving. Later after a rugby game they spilled out into the street and were exuberantly rowdy. That's ok, but they were not giving way. The heating was ok. The location is nice to get to abbey, roman baths, stores but hotel is not comfortable. Elevator was small but worked well; stairs were steep no railings. Bed good but small. Very clean.

It was lovely apart there was roadworks the first night and it was very noisy, they offered us two different rooms to move to the next morning but they where both very small and we had already paid for the superior room ,but the next evening there was roadworks again and they moved us to a four poster room which was beautiful and they where very apologetic, we would definitely stay again

The hotel is of historical interest, old, next to the train station and in need of some attention in areas.
The decor is looking tired in all areas we saw. In our room the bath sides have come away and need fixing, the pipes emit a squeal that could get very loud. It was quirky to begin with, but got a little annoying after a while. The bathroom floor was very slippering after showering. I was woken at 4am by the sound of the lift and banging doors. Other than that the hotel is fine and comfortable.
On checking out the staff member seemed dissinterested and was not interested in whether or not we enjoyed our stay.
Check in was fine and other staff members were friendly and engaging.

the staff couldn’t do enough for you, they went out of their way to make sure you had a good stay.

The staff at The Royal Hotel (Andrea, Tim and Gabriel) were friendly, accommodating and professional. The hotel overall needs updating. The bathroom was modern and fine but the carpets need replacing and our third floor room floor creaked a lot whenever we took a step. No one was above us but I felt bad for whoever was below. It is an old building so it’s not too surprising. The bed was ok but not the greatest mattress we had on the trip. The location is great and I would stay again.

The property is close to city, bus and train stations. It is an old property so there is a lot of road noise even when the windows are closed. The floors are very squeaky and noise from the hallways also makes it into the room. There is no air con so at night when the windows are closed (to stop the road noise) it gets very hot. A fan is supplied. We booked a car park and arrived early evening and there was only one park available and it was very difficult to get into. Glad we had a small car.

The hotel is clean. The people were amazing. However, the property is extremely dated. I would highly recommend if you come to this property do not do it in the summer. They only offer a very small fan and the temperature in the room became unbearable. To the point we had to have the open fully opened which in itself wouldn’t normally be a problem apart from the entire colony of seagulls on the roof squawking throughout the night. We’ve resorted to putting wet towels on to cool us down. We felt like you cut the air with a knife.

The weather was initially very hot and the hotel does not have air conditioning. An electric fan was provded and the windows opened, so it was possible to get relief. A source of ice for water and drinks would also help.These spurts of warmer weatherwill need some clever thinking and planningto maintain comfort for guests.

We had a lovely time during our stay at The Royal Hotel in Bath. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was beautiful and comfortable, and very clean. We loved the bath robes provided! Thank you so much for a wonderful experience at your beautiful hotel!
