This so-called 5-star hotel feels outdated and poorly maintained. The rooms and facilities are old, with noticeable dirt and a lingering smoke smell throughout. The pool and gym are equally worn and uninspiring. Everything is just “okay,” but far from luxury—this place is long overdue for a major upgrade.

We stayed at Shenzhen Sunshine Hotel for 3 nights earlier this month. The hotel itself was clean and comfortable, but one incident at the restaurant left us extremely disappointed and humiliated.

On check-in, the receptionist offered a discount for meals if paid a day in advance. I paid cash for two people the first day, then again the next day for our final lunch. I didn’t ask for a receipt, trusting the hotel to link it to our room.

On our last day, when we arrived to eat, a young male server rudely told us we hadn’t paid. He spoke loudly, causing a scene in front of other guests. I explained we paid in cash and even suggested checking the cameras. He refused to believe us and insisted there was only one payment. I asked for the manager.

The manager arrived and, without asking any questions, said “Let them eat,” clearly more concerned with stopping the scene than solving the issue. I told him it wasn’t about the money—it was about being treated with respect. We felt humiliated and left without eating.

I left a note and my contact info in our room. I strongly urge hotel management to investigate the situation—check the payment records and review the cameras. This experience was unacceptable. Guests deserve to be treated fairly and with dignity.

If you pay in cash at the restaurant, please ask for a receipt.

Ordered a city view room, got a no view (a big wall in front of the window)room , plus the window was broken. Front desk staff told us their system didn’t show we booked city view room at first, after I opened hotel.com app to show them, they changed a much better room.finally we got our room at 4:00pm, check in suppose at 2 PM. A staff helped us to got a ride on the check out day, moved our luggage’s to the ride’s pick up area, it was a big help.

Booked this hotel was very last minute as our flight was delayed. Excellent hotel all around. Clean, beautiful, staff are all professional and helpful. They even gave a plate of fruits.

The general manager called and asked how my room was after I checked in, and helped me schedule a taxi to the airport the next day.

Would definitely stay here again.

I've stayed at Sunshine 4-5 times over the past 10 years, and this was a grand hotel at one point in time, but perhaps seems past its prime. I was disappointed the pool was only open 9am - 9 pm -- no early morning swim. And the gym was not open until 7 am. And our floor had a faint moldy smell, which can happen in the air handling systems in these tropical climates. Unfortunately, it may be my last stay at the Sunshine. Bao'an is a lot more convenient for us.

I like that I was served two fresh fruits every day at the hotel room. The two fruits were one apple and one pear.

I didn't like that there were only two cans of beer in the refrigerator at the hotel room. There was more space in the refrigerator, so you can put some more cans of beer.

Good hotel, with some areas for improvement

The first night was miserable. The was a ton of noise, there was music in the room, and there was construction in the hallway early in the morning.

The second night was much better away from everything. Overall not too bad. The breakfast buffet was great, and the Japanese Restaurant next door to hotel was pricey but very good.

I used to come this hotel regularly but this stay was bad. First I find the room dusty. Whenever I pulled the bedsheets I cld feel the dust. The hotel is undergoing Reno and at 8am the drills started. Cldnt sleep at all. Aircon was bad. It so hot despite me turning it up to the coldness. Disappointed

Smells like a smoking den

I had a mostly disappointing stay at this hotel, the biggest problem being the air quality. The hotel reeked of cigarette smoke in just about all areas except the breakfast dining area. At night, cigarette smoke bellowed from the air vents and the windows cannot be opened, and given the climate of Shenzhen, not having air circulation at night is not really an option. Most areas of the hotel post smoking prohibited signs, but the local Chinese patrons smoke anyways and the biggest problem is that the hotel management is indifferent, despite complaints by me and my colleague of other patrons smoking in adjacent rooms on nonsmoking floors, with doors wide open. The hotel clearly only aims to cater to a local clientele, where smoking indoors is generally accepted or tolerated. Hilarious, the hotel places ashtrays below the no smoking signs posted beside the elevators, and these ashtrays are almost always filled with cigarette butts.

hotel is located closed to the Luohu train station. getting a cab to go there is not easy. the hotel staff is not much help flagging down a cab for me! so, I went and got one myself!!

This place was amazing. They upgraded me to the presidential suite, which was just huge. The place is clean and they were able to switch out feathers for cotton. There is a bar next door, with free pool, and a club. Also, we ate hot pot right up the street and it was great. My only gripe was the room across from us that was having some sort of smoking party, choking me to death.

Reasonably Priced with Acceptabe Condition

Good points about this hotel are (1) the location is good, close to both local and more upscale shopping areas, (2) price is pretty inexpensive, (3) service staff are pretty efficient.

Not so good points are (1) not enough lights in the room, (2) room condition is starting to run down, (3) cleanliness is acceptable but can be improved, (4) buffet breakfast is OK not great.

The hotel has seen better days. The hotel has been through part renovation, these are the pros and cons :
1) Pros :
1.1 Clean sheets and beddings
1.2 Good working desk
2) Cons
2.1 Toilet shower area is still original old condition
2.2 Guests smoke in room although these are suppose to be non-smoking rooms. Chamber maids do not have sprays nor air ioniser to clear the stench.
2.3 Breakfast is pricy and not what one expects of a 4-star hotel

Quite a relaxed and comfortable stay. Close to MTR station. Many good local eateries. Close to Lohu Border; very easy to go to Hong Kong from here. Hotel provides free car ride to Lohu Border.

Check in and check out were fast. The room (Deluxe Garden View) was quite and comfortable, but there was a tiny refrigerator (there was a decent-size one in the room when I stayed four months ago) which was useless. The breakfast buffet was decent with a large variety of Western and Chinese dishes. The room carpet has never been vacuumed/cleaned during my stay as you still could see the dirty stuff on the floor. My room was on a non-smoking floor, but someone was smoking in the morning and left the door open, the whole hall was full of strong and disgusting smell. What happened to the smoke detector or hotel personnel???

Comfortable room, pleasant helpful staff,

View from hotel of major intersection. fun watching the large foot traffic. Pool not much for doing laps. the gym weight equipment is dated to the 1990's, but OK for traveling.

Maids were bright and cheerful. Restaurant excellent.

Lobby looks very nice and does seem like a 5 star hotel. However, hotel is not very secured because you share the elevator with others that go to the restaurants or the underground parking lot. Guestroom is pretty outdated. They are badly in need of renovation. Guestroom also didn't have enough lighting. Electric outlet has hotel or crack on the side. Carpets in rooms and hallways look old. Requested an extra bed in advance but it was not prepared when I checked in. Front desk agent told me they would need to charge me extra for the rollaway bed, when I had paid in advanced for it. Took her some time researching to find out I did pay for it already.

Nice hotel....a little old....but great location....(traffic is horrible in the area..)

The staff on the floor for the executive restaurant / snack area could def be much nicer and professional when it comes to how they treat people....

A few times I had a guest to discuss business there...and they got \"nasty\" in trying to charge $8-15 USD for something as stupid as a cup of tea (from a large pot i was given)...that I was entitled to for free as an executive guest...but heaven forbid I should share a cup of tea or allow a guest to have a bite-sized sandwich from the \"lame\" buffet there....

This situation led to one of my guests and myself being treated VERY disrespectfully....

Made zero sense......

also.....the \"fitness room\" ....a JOKE....for such a potentially premier hotel..

Nice hotel close to everything, great location.

Very convenient location, close to public transportation, lots of restaurants and shopping places nearby.
Hotel staff are very friendly and offer excellent service. The room I stayed was a bit outdated, yet very clean.
Had complimentary fruit delivered to room everyday. Will definitely consider staying here next time.

Fast paced environment with many cars and people, traffic and congestion at certain times. Nice people and some not so nice. Cleaning service for the room was good and laundry was the best. Complimentary breakfast was good based on my hotel room choice. Nice lobby and accomodations with good bar.

Poor management!

I booked a room several days before I checked in, and I double-checked my booking by calling the Hong Kong office of Hotels.com several about an hour before my departure from Hong Kong. However, when I arrived at the hotel and checked in, the receptionist as the front desk said that there was no record of my booking. I had to call the Hong Kong office to settle the issue.

Then, after I entered the room trying to put my valuables into the safety box, it simply didn't work.

Very difficult to get it. To much traffic, nobody speaks English and the rooms are so small, like a two stars hotel for bussinnes men in China. Impossible to get a taxi. Impossible to come back to the hotel. The window of the room was on the apartments of 20 buildings with clothes out. Horrible.
