This is a great hotel made better by exemplary staff, who were among the most friendly, chatty and helpful we have ever encountered - they are a credit to the hotel and the hospitality industry generally. Breakfast was ok but not extensive. Our room was clean and comfortable.

My stay was short but absolutely amazing. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms are also beautifully done with the most comfortable bed I have had in a hotel in a LONG time! It literally felt like clouds in heaven. The only thing rivaling the beauty and comfort of this hotel was the incredibly kind hospitality of the staff. I am so grateful to have found this stay after another hotel that I booked 6 months before, cancelled my reservation 3 days before arrival literally leaving me stranded on my first trip to Spain. It was actually a blessing in hind sight as I had the honor of spending a very peaceful stay by the sea in total comfort with all the amenities I could possibly need or want. Thank you Hotel Las Rocas!!!

Besutiful, spotlessly clean hotel in a fantastic location across from a beach, but needs doible glazing and sound proofing. Noise from other rooms of babies crying, chairs scraping in the room above and a latge dog barking across from the hotel made sleep very challenging.

A nice place to stay

The hotel is close to the beach and an easy walk to the main town centre. The room was spacious and clean. The walls are quite thin, so you can hear voices from the neighbouring rooms but it wasn't too much of a disturbance. The bed was super comfortable and i enjoyed a great night sleep. There was a nice selection at breakfast, all continental - no hot food but the croissants were amazing!! The only down side was nobody at reception spoke any English, fortunately we were travelling with someone who spoke spanish otherwise it may have been a little difficult

The hotel is very well situated, close to the seafront and an excellent beach. The staff are all very friendly and efficient. I very much appreciated the secure car park which is just across the street from the hotel. The only disappointment with our stay is that the lack of public toilets in the area resulted in a bad smell throughout the seafront area. This is, of course, not the fault of the hotel.

A little disappointing for that price

I know the city well and I know the hotel can charge those prices because of limited availability of options during the summer, but still it was disappointing to check into the room and see very obviously the cleaning was subpar (make up stains in the sink and hairs in the bathtub) and the amenities are so low standard. At that price, they could have some complimentary real coffee in the room and not nescafe and definitely I would have expected a real hair dryer and iron in the room.

Delightful hotel in a great setting

We passed through on our way to Bilbao, and had a great half day on the beach, (great place to swim) and evening wandering around the town. The hotel had great views over the bay, parking was easy and the evening meal delicious. Highly recommend corner of loveliness

The hotel is right across the street from the boardwalk and the beach. It is located at the opposite end of the boardwalk from the harbor, lighthouse and church, which gave us many opportunities to stroll the boardwalk and relax. The staff was most helpful.

Las Rocas The Best location,food and service!!

The Hotel Sarcotel Las Rocas is located just in front of the beach in Castro Rubiales . With an excellent service and very clean room it is is the best horel to stay in such beautiful place. The breakfast was delicious, the room has a lot of space and the hotel provide the bikes to ride throu the beach from side walk.

Comfortable and perfect location for ferries.

Handy location for 2 nights prior to getting ferry from Santander to Portsmouth. Reception staff and waiters were very helpful and friendly. Our room was very clean, quiet and comfortable with a large bathroom and we were on the top floor with a lovely view of the sea. An added bonus was secure garage parking. We were happy with the quiet location, slightly out of the main town, and the old part of the town, with restaurants and bars, was a 15 - 20 minutes stroll along the beach promenade. The breakfast buffet selection was good - especially the do-it-yourself orange juice machine with tumbling oranges! Very highly recommend and would definitely book here again on our next trip.

Convenient for the Bilbao Ferry Port

This was a one-night stay, as we were catching the ferry to Portsmouth in the morning. Castro Urdiales is a nice little town, with a small beach and promenade. The hotel room was large and comfortable, with lots of hot water. We had our dog with us and had requested a dog-friendly room, but the confirmation email did not include this. When I phoned to check, I was told that they only accepted dogs up to 12kg. The booking process had not mentioned this, however when I told them the dog is a Labrador, they were fine about it. I had to sign an agreement about the dog, but it was all reasonable, like not barking or going on the bed. It only took around 20 minutes to get to the Ferry Port and it was well signposted. I would definitely use this hotel again.

Excellent hotel in a very good location to visit Castro Urdiales and for the Bilbao Ferry. We only stayed for one night but we have visited before. The room was very comfortable and warm and the reception staff were excellent.
We did not have dinner but did have breakfast which was very good. We will certainly stay again when we are next in the area.

Hotel overcharged me for my stay

The hotel itself is ok, but they forced me to pay two nights for the reservation even though I changed it to one night within the penalty time-frame allowed. They pretended that they did not get my reservation change in their records. I do not like dishonest people and will not stay there again.

Real Spain Experience.

We chose this hotel at random because we wanted a pet friendly hotel, and would 100% go back. Castro Urdiales was a gem, a small town bursting with character. Great value for money bars with real Spanish tapas on offer everywhere. Dancing in the town square, salsa on the streets. If you want real Spain, this is it. The breakfast we had was top quality with lots of choice. Well worth a visit.

Second time staying at this hotel and this experience was far better than the first. We had a lovely sea view and the room was clean and well appointed. Our first time, the room was dark, dated and depressing...not sure whether the hotel had had a complete refurb or whether we were just lucky on this occasion but a big thumbs up!

A very nice Cambrian town close to, but away from the hassles of Bilbao. A good base for exploring the area. Hotel efficient, friendly and attentive - close to beach and fishing harbour with many restaurants etc

Comfortable Hotel for our overnight stay.

This is the second time we have stayed here before joining the Ferry at Bilbao.
The hotel is well appointed, clean & comfortable, and the staff friendly & efficient.
The shower, although very luxurious, needs a degree in engineering to sort it out.
The low point was dinner. A Cafe style menu which was not inspiring in a 4-star hotel.

Bilbao alternative hotel location

Hotel is right by the beach and room we had, gave a great sea view. First time in the town and it was a lovely place for a visit out of season. It is a busy hotel, very popular with Spanish visitors and diners. Hotel is very comfortable, but get to breakfast early as items seemingly not replenished! Room service very good. Parking in the street is safe. Worth a trip to the resort and this hotel is a good place to stay.

On road trip through Spain and needed a hotel prior to getting an early morning ferry from Zierbena!
My wife and were extremely pleased with the hotel's accommodation and the friendliness of the staff!
The location was excellent and the local emenities superb!
Also only 20 minutes easy drive to the ferry terminal!
Would definitely stay again for two night not one!

The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, especially the reception staff. We were upgraded to a superior room which had double aspect windows overlooking the sea.

Clean but old fashioned

If you like slick modern hotels this place is not for you. Old fashioned but well located just off the motorway so convenient for an overnight stop. It was clean with no frills. Did not eat there except breakfast which was fine.

Overall enjoyed they stay but...

We were very please at the ease of locating the hotel. There are plenty of signs to pint you in the right direction. Check in was smooth and the desk staff was friendly.

When we entered our room it reeked of cigarettes, it was a non smoking room so I assume it's from many years of lots of smokers from the past. The room windows opened out and we could enjoy the fresh ocean views and breeze. This helped with the stale cigarette smell as well.

Lunch and dinner hours are very strictly adhered to so we weren't able to eat lunch the first day so we had some, pinchos, the local bars food/snack. They were tasty and the wait staff was super helpful. The prices for the pinchos was very economical. Breakfast both days was super yummy and plentiful.

However - we had a disappointing experience with lips choir second day. We arrived 15 minutes after the start of the lunch service. We asked for a two top and the guy rolled his eyes at us like we were a bother. We told him we could come back later if we needed to make reservation but he hesitantly sat us. We felt like we were a bother for the entire meal.

The food was way over pricesd for the portions and the service. 27.00E/30US for the menu and I ordered a salad for 20E/22US that was the same size as a dinner salad. This was the most disappointing part of this hotel.

I would recommend it to others but be aware of the lunch \"rules\" and find somewhere else to eat lunch/dinner.

relaxing stop, convenient for Bilbao ferry

we stayed for two nights before catching the ferry back to UK from Bilbao. It was a relaxing way to travel. The town is good for a short stay (especially if you like beaches). The hotel was a 10 minute walk along the seafront to the centre of town and there were also bars/restaurants nearby. The parking is secure and the drive into Bilbao was easy.

Tour of Northern Spain

Fantastic suites on the 4th floor overlooking the beach. Friendly helpful staff and a excellent choice at breakfast. Again beware of the car park, not designed for anything bigger than a fiat 500.

excellent hotel virtually on seafront

Stayed at las rocas for 1 night prior to getting the ferry back to Portsmouth.It was a great decision as the hotel is only a 20 minute drive to the Bilbao port.

On arrival it was obvious that we were expected and the T´s and C´s for my dog were very reasonable. The staff were very polite and helpful. The room had all reasonable amenities, TV, Radio, Tea and Coffee making, refrigerator, all the toiletries you could possibly ask for.

Las Rocas - close to Bilbao

Comfortable hotel an easy drive to the ferry for the morning crossing to UK.
Not much in the surrounding area and the hotel restaurant was closed so spent the evening in the hotel bar. No atmosphere but basic food at a reasonable price made for an OK evening.
Will use the hotel again.

Hotel very nice and clean and convenient to Bilbao Port. Only criticism was the food. We didnt want a large meal on the night, I had an Omlette which was raw in the centre, I did mention this but nothing was done. I ended up having an upset stomach for 2 days. Would stay here again but would not eat in the Hotel.

Sercotel Hotel Las Rocas - Castro Urdiales

Good, clean facilities. Polite and helpful staff. The location is ideal; at the end of the promenade in a really picturescue village. I found the secure garage parking (daily charge) really useful. The one area I thought could be improved is that the hotel displays a prominent illuminated \"Hotel\" sign - it would be easier to find the hotel if this included the \"Las Rocas\" hotel name.

Great location, not easy to find

The location of the hotel was excellent. However, we were driving in from the Rioja area and found the signage at the hotel lacking. It simply said \"Hotel\" the name of the hotel was on the front door which doesn't help when driving around with other hotels in the area. Otherwise we had a very positive experience

Loved everything about it.

Lovely location - Castro Urdiales is beautiful with lots of charm and great walks. Very comfortable and well furnished room (rooms 501 and 2 have great terraces overlooking the beach). Lovely bathroom with quick filling bath and strong shower. Slippers and dressing gowns were nice. Restaurant good and not overly expensive for the quality of food.
