Restaurant was nice but the room was disgusting. Very very cold and smelt very strong of drains all through the night. No gesture of good will from the hotel. Apart from wavering the £15 parking fee. Reception staff did not listen and we found them very rude.

Not 4 star quality.

This is an architecturally lovely building and because of its age and situation, is not planned out in a conventional way. It is conveniently located within 10 minutes walk of Santurtzi where there are many restaurants and a short 6 - 7 minutes drive (5.6km) to Bilbao Ferry Terminal.
The hotel provides shower and hand gel, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. Rooms have air-conditioning. While the shower was over the bath, it was excellent but the screen allowed water onto the floor. The hairdryer needed replaced as it kept overheating and cutting out; an ongoing issue judging by the plastic deformation.
During the day, the bar was on the terrace overlooking the bay, the marina and was very pleasant.
The car park was underground and available with reservation costing two motorcycles €15 per night.
We chose not to eat in either the restaurant or the cafeteria and sampled local fare instead.
The lower level second floor smelt a bit damp and fusty, as did our room; as if nobody had been in it for a few days.
The hotel hosts functions such as weddings. While any noise is curfewed at mid-night, if you need to sleep before that, it may be difficult especially if your room is located on the 2nd / 3rd floors.
I make a plea not to let this place run down any more; the place is tired, needs decorated and management need to make checks on thorough cleaning of rooms and public areas. In my opinion it isnot 4 star quality.

This hotel was recommended to us as a luxury hotel.
The Hotel sits in a great position within Bilbao & has great views.
A quick & easy drive to the ferry port.
We were disappointed to find that although the hotel is a beautiful building the interior is very modern.
Bedroom comfortable.
Restaurant very stark especially when eating alone.
Food enjoyable.

Great room, great food - Poor Check In

Everything wonderful apart from having to wait 70 mins queuing at check in.
After a 3 hour drive you don’t want to be waiting to get your room key.
When I complained it was our fault - we’d arrived at the same time as others. What do you expect at a hotel with lots of rooms !
Also whilst in the queue it appears if you’re Spanish you can just push in !
Had a ground floor room, not a great view but did the job before getting the boat home

We were not informed of a festival next to the property. We were provided ear plugs at check in. Additionally there was a mustiness to the air. We left immediately when we saw that the earplugs were necessary. This was not disclosed when we made the reservation.

Hotel was large, clean and comfortable. Reception was efficient. Car park good but spaces quite small. Room was adequate but nothing special. Breakfast good. Biggest problem was the restaurant was shut for dinner and we were told the nearest restaurant was about 800 metres away. There was a shelf of snack meal for sale at very high prices.

GOOD HOTEL CLOSE TO FERRY PORT

Stayed at the URH. Palacido de Oriol Hotel on 3 separate occasions, and have been very happy with our stay.
The only problem I can see is if someone is a light sleeper, then they must ask for a room facing away from the railway line the has trains going past from 5 am until late in the evening, and they are quite noisy.

Initially it was difficult to locate the hotel. But we did so eventually.
Warm welcome at reception and a lovely room. But the view was not inspiring. Overlooking the railway which was quite noisy with trains stopping and starting until late at night. We like to sleep with a window open and this was difficult with the noise.

I arrived to the hotel after a 10 hours drive from Algeciras because I was driving back to the UK. As mentioned in the description the parking is not always guaranteed, but you can park is the hospital car park across the road whixh is fine. However l had lots fo luggage to unload and asked if someone could help or at least take my car to the carpark unload it then leave. The female receptionist was very rude inconsiderate and unhelpful and said this is a 4* hotel not 5 so no one is available to help. i had to push the trolley is a very steep path and it got stuck and couldn’t move it luckily one of the guests saw me struggling and helped. The place is smells of mould and has mould everywhere. I don’t have asthma and I was struggling as I was coughing the whole night. The room was also dirty. I’m only giving this place a 1 star because of the gentleman next day who allowed me to take my car inside the carpark to load it as its way easier because I just had to take the lif and push the trolly for two seconds instead of a 10 min journey!!!! Will DEFINITELY NOT BE RECOMMENDING THIS PLACE TO ANYONE!! Horrible service.

I cannot recommend

Most of the rooms are not in the beautiful, historic building you see on the photos, but rather on a huge underground extension they built underneath. Because of the sloped terrain, rooms face the back of the building and don't seem apparent when looking at the original palace building. These rooms are below-grade and face busy train tracks, and they are quite close to them. The noise and, often, the vibration of trains passing by made our stay very unpleasant, it really was hard to get a good sleep. Rooms also feel tired and outdated, but they are otherwise spacious and comfortable. The grounds and surroundings are nice. Very limited parking within the hotel, but we found plenty of space in the hospital's parking lot across the street. I do not recommend the restaurant at the back of this hotel, despite the views and outdoor patio.

Unique beautiful building, short walk to metro to Bilbao, safe parking, staff spoke excellent English, spacious room. Didn’t like restaurant which served the worst meal we’ve had over 10 day vacation. Food was flavorless, meat was terribly dry. Google maps did not find correct location so we hired an Uber to let us follow to the hotel. Streets are difficult if you don’t know the area.

Not a 4 star hotel, very expensive for what offers

Not a 4 star hotel AT ALL! In the room you find not even half liter water bottle, no toothbrush, just some SMALL shower gel and shampoo \"bottle\". VERY, VERY noizy due to trains passing just couple of meters to hotel. Only one reception stuff understood me that I could not sleep and changed the room. The other ones were arogant, anyway NOT 4 STAR HOTEL EMPLOYEE! When client claims the noise from trains, WE MAKE EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO MAKE HIM HAPPY, NOT TELL HIM IMMEDIATELY \"NOT POSSIBLE\"

we enjoyed our four night stay and would book again. the hotel is well documented on various review/hotel sites and generally, we agree with the comments so no repitition required. two things; 1/ stretch your budget and go for the best room configuration possible,
2/ whatever you decide, you will be in the best possible hands- the team of staff here are worthy of 10/10 throughout....from top to bottom, side to side, an impeccable approach to customer service.
That`s the difference.

The hotel was fine. It did the job. It's in a good location being so close to the train station - getting into Bilbao is very easy. Some nice places to eat just down the road. Rooms were fine, pretty standard affair, although cleaned to a high standard. Biggest disappointment was the service. Staff at check in and check out were cold and unwelcoming, bordering on rude. Very much not in keeping with how friendly I found Spanish people to be in general. The hotel bar is also a waste of time and not worth visiting. There was no outside seating at all despite clearly having space for it, and it normally being there (according to staff) presumably because it wasn't summer.

At the end of the day it does the job.

The reason we picked this hotel is the great location to the port of Bilbao. However, the hotel’s underground parking (fee required) has limited spaces and it is very difficult to park especially if you have a larger vehicle.

We found the hotel to be set in beautiful grounds and in a very good location to Bilbao port. Reception staff were ok. Bedroom very clean and comfortable.
Restaurant had one waiter who appeared to be rushed off his feet with only 3 tables occupied.
We ordered the crispy chicken with barbecue sauce for our starter. I feel it came Straight out of the freezer into the fryer, plenty of it but tasteless, no garnish and looked bland.
We ordered steak and chips for our main and we had to send it back. It was undercooked under seasoned and cold and full of un rendered fat.
It came back not much better, the chips you could snap in half all the crispy bits you get at the bottom of the frozen bag. We did complain nicely and the waiter very kindly (not) gave us a free drink I did explain that the drink wasn’t the problem but it fell on deaf ears. They also had no wine list due to COVID
€64 later feels like we have been mugged.
Total bill for the one night €224
Shop around, if you do stay maybe take a walk and find a restaurant that serves home cooked palatable food.

No food, bar and restaurant were closed due to covid, nothing was mentioned on your web site, after a long journey I had to go and find a cafe! Fridge in the room didn’t even have any water in it! No mention of the train track running right outside the room! Very noisy train track which ran late into the eve and again early morning. Very very disappointing!

We love the hotel friendly staff, the only problem the noise from the trains that are quite close to the rear of the hotel.
The car park underground is very good but a long walk to the lifts and hotel reception. We had a huge bedroom and a separate changing area and bathroom. The room was designed for disabled persons but had a low bath with a seat to enable my wife to shower but her problem is lower body function and found it hard to get into the bath a walk in shower would have been more suitable. All in all an excellent hotel and a quarter of an hours drive to the ferry port, very convenient.

Very interesting, thought the parking charge was rather expensive at 15€, but at least you could relax knowing your car was safe.
Breakfast excellent, so much choice.
The bathroom we had , just needed a slight refurbish of the grout etc.
A beautiful building heaped with history and so convenient for the ferry. Would definitely stay again .

Stopover for ferry journey the following day. The hotel is situated a very convenient short distance from the ferry terminal, about 15 mins. Has a nice little restaurant so no need to go hunting for food around and about after a long journey. Have stayed here before and would stay again. Also has secure parking.

Disappointing! On a railway line!!!

Our room was facing the railway line. The noise was terrible! We couldn’t sleep without having a window open as the air conditioning system was not working and it was too warm in the room! Unfriendly reception on arrival. When we arrived to the hotel the access to parking and hotel entrance was completely inaccessible to check in!

The inexpensive rooms are under the castle building on the basement with nevertheless a view. The room is okay but the main building is a maze especially if you come in from the underground parking lots. The direction signs are misleading and the hotel staffs are not that helpful. Though the location is good given it is only 10 mins walk from the bridge and the town center

Very convenient for the ferry terminal and absolutely fine for one or two nights. Food in the restaurant was good and very reasonably priced. The hotel is built on a very steep hill so the layout is a little odd and confusing but our room was perfectly fine.

On the down side getting into the bays in the underground car park is scary and at 15 euro per night is expensive. Also the Bilbao metro station at the back of the hotel can be a bit noisy when you are trying to get to sleep.

Was most disappointed could not get the WiFi to connect because the room was on the lower ground there were no refreshment ie coffee and tea making facilities the bathroom door was swollen possibly due to damp and would not close and the floor was not cleaned properly to get to the room we had to go along a long dimly lit passage and the carpet in the passage was old dirty and stained

Rooms large and with good facilities. Would have preferred a stocked mini bar. Desk light was a power saving bulb which did not give a good light for working at the desk. Access was via a stepped area. No external lift available.

Nice location when visiting Santurce however they need to allow guest choose to have air conditioning or not. Simply I was forced to have heater or non air hence had a really bad sleep both nights even though I requested many times for air conditioning or a fan. With my hypertension was really a nuisance!

A pleasant hotel with good potential.

My stay was pleasant enough. When I booked the hotel I failed to realize how far it was from Bilbao and indeed of its location in relation to the train/metro stations. I recall that the reception staff were excellent, the head of the dining/dinner room would do well with some customer relations improvement. I also noted that I was given no assistance with luggage even though I had a noticeable problem leg. In the drive to cut service, there needs to be a replacement for the tasks previously done by bell-boys.

The hotel is very nice and good value. Location works well as it is pretty easy to get into town centre on metro and Getxos across the river is fantastic and a nice walk and a chance to user the very cool bridge. Good food, clean rooms and friendly staff. Only drawback is the noise of the trains - fine at weekends but gets pretty noisy during weekday. That said we would return.

2 nights in Bilbao

We stayed here for 2 nights and it was a great location. The local area was lovely but you can also get to Bilbao on the metro in under 30 mins. The room was a good size and was very comfortable. Not sure it’s necessarily 4 star standard as there were a few facilities missing e.g. tea/coffee in room, iron and safe. Other than that though the room was fine, we looked out onto the railway but were never disturbed by any noise. The car park was also great, we have a large 4x4 and had no problem parking. The reception and restaurant staff are very friendly, however be prepared for a frostier experience in the bar. Overall would defiantly recommend his hotel just don’t come with 4 star expectations.

A good location for the ferry from Bilbao to Portsmouth. The underground garage is great for cars, bikes etc but cannot accommodate larger vans. As there is no outdoor parking at the hotel it becomes a real pain! There is a public car park in the hospital opposite the hotel but it is very busy.

Arrived at hotel for an overnight stay, prior to sailing from Bilbao to Portsmouth the next morning. Unfortunately, due to bad weather conditions the sailing was postponed for 2 days. The hotel reception staff were helpful in accommodating us for those extra nights. They also helped us out in contacting our car insurance company to arrange a call out due to a flat battery. Internet very good with excellent speed. This was not our first stay at the hotel and would recommend it to anyone, especially those needing close availability to the port.

Good stopover for the Ferry port.

We stopped here overnight to catch the Portsmouth ferry. Fine for that purpose and close to the port about 15 minutes in 8 AM traffic.. Food not bad and reasonable price. Bottom end of a 3 star we thought. Bilbao a 25 minute metro ride and quite nice to visit though it was a bit short as we did not get there until 5PM.

Nicest hotel we have stay at in Spain

A must to stay on a upper floor beautiful view of the bay. Walk around the town. If we could we would have stay here at least two three days. Close enough to Bilboa to taxi if you want to visit that town.

great stay, fresh breakfast. free internet that worked perfectly.
great service; I left a shirt on purpose as it was old. checked out and 5 minutes late a call to the taxi drive saying i'd left a shirt. Super.

A curates egg!

Reception staff were friendly and helpful.
The hotel is a little weird with bedrooms only accessible by using a combination of stairs and lifts. The room was extremely noisy, with little soundproofing to give a quiet night which was made worse with a funfair operating only a few hundred yards away! The noise couldn't all be blamed on the fair as the railway line was even nearer!
Access to Bilbao centre was easy with a short walk to that station, and also a metro at about the same distance.
The local people we came in contact with couldn't have been more helpful, which was just as well when trying to find our way our way out of town to the airport. GPS lied and trying to follow road signs just led us through back streets and dead ends! Eventually a very friendly council worker guided us all the way to the Auto-via almost as far as the airport - about 6KM!
Not at all impressed with local town but Bilbao was brilliant.

Arrived latest after longish drive not the easiest place to locate, offered room upgrade great room balcony and view of harbour room excellent very comfortable. Very close to underground system easy access into city cheap too !

Perfectly fine. Once we could find it!

Clean and good value. Parking 15 euros extra but nowhere else to park so worth it. Very, very difficult to find. Do not rely on satnav!

Very disappointing.

The hotel is good, I suppose, if you get a room on one of the upper levels. Our room was on minus one level and it was awful. It stank of cigarettes and had mold on the curtains in the room. Very disappointing.

Just want to mention the outstanding customer service of all the staff at this Hotel. We had some hiccups with our booking (our fault) and the receptionist solved all issues and which enabled us to relax and get on with our short vacation.

Good for the money

This hotel was rated as a four star, we have stayed in three star hotels just as good. However, the room we stayed in was nice with a double bed and small fridge the bathroom was spacious and our room was overlooking the river, and the railway station. We did not find the trains disturbing but you could hear them. When we were there there was a funfair across from our room which was very loud and went on till the early hours.The double glazing dulled the noise enough for us to sleep but having the window open was a no no. The funfair is not a permanent feature and it was unfortunate it was there whilst we were. However it is there for the festivals, and there are a lot of festivals. So check beforehand. The breakfast was nice and worth the money and the Menu del dia we had was good for 15 Euros . The price goes up at the weekend. Overall, just about worth the money and we would stay there again.

Break before traveling in Spain

Quick break before onwards travel Noisy due to funfair until 3.am Sunday morning(fiesta early July).Suburbs of Bilbio.The transporter bridge across the estuary is unique.Restaurants about but open about 8.30 P.M plenty of tapas bars open all day.

A great option in Santurzi

Good hotel with great view of the port. Room was quite large by European standards and the bed was large and comfortable. Service was very friendly. Location is great for public transit (near train and metro stations) and walking distance to bars, cafes, etc.

Ideal pre-Bilbao ferry crossing

Ideally situated for pre-ferry Bilboa crossing
Staff very helpful and friendly
Hotel is a little tired but in a bueautiful building
Car parking as usual in Spain \" A LITTLE TIGHT\" if you drive anything larger than a Smart car
that said it is very convenient being under the hotel
All round a decent place to stay in an area with not much choice unless you fancy Bilbao central
I don't think you would be able to find this hotel without Satnav!
