The hotel is nice but very simple. The staff isn’t welcoming and cheery just very business with minimal conversation. We felt as if we were a bother. The lobby is very basic with no real sitting area and the entrance to the hotel is on the backside not the street level which is inconvenient when arriving and unloading. It’s not clearly noted and is a bit confusing. Room was a good size and the bed was comfortable. Pillows were very hard unfortunately. There is a small, complimentary coffee station in the lobby that is a nice perk.

Great surprise near Bilbao

Surprise little hotel in a great location. We weren't sure how this hotel near Bilbao was going to work out, but the location was outstanding, and very interesting. Easy access to Bilbao. Highy recommend it. The hotel restaurant was a little lacking, but there were many other food options.

Great location, outside of city centre but easily accessible via train. Great local area, lots of bars, restaurants etc. The restaurant in the hotel is also fantastic and excellent service is provided. Rooms are spacious and clean and worth paying extra for a view of the bridge.

We stayed at the property before starting walking the Camino Norte. This is a high end hotel but is reasonably priced. The hotel is located in an old historical building in Portugalete right next to the unique hanging bridge. We enjoyed our stay here.

Chaotic start to our stay when we could not access the hotel parking garage.A film crew was using the hotel as a location and their security had taped off the entrance to the garage.Bizarrely the hotel receptionist was completely unaware of the inaccessibility.We managed to park in a nearby public multi storey car park which only cost €7.50/day compared to €19 at the hotel.
We had a river view room which was spacious & the view of the bridge & river is spectacular.
There are extremely limited evening dining options in the area.We were lucky to get a table in the hotel bar as it was busy and chaotic.I had not been advised at check in that booking in advance was advisable and we were not given any information about breakfast.
The hotel is a convenient 15 minute drive from the ferry port at Bilbao but quite a distance from the city centre.Be aware the area behind the hotel is extremely hilly and the nearest train station is 500m away, if you are arriving by public transport & have a lot of luggage.It is a lovely hotel but I feel the staff could do with further customer service training.

Very friendly Boutique hotel in a great location.

Very good comfortable hotel, situated within 20 mins of the Bilbao ferry port and right beside the world heritage site hanging bridge.The hotel also has a secure parking garage at a cost of 19 euros a night.
The rooms are large and comfortable,we had one looking over the river. There are no coffee making facilities in the room but there is a free machine in the lobby.Breakfast is adequate.
I would definitely stay here again.

We are hiking the Camino del Norte. The location was perfect for the Camino but would be well worth staying at as a destination itself. The location and hotel are stunning. Just beautiful. Staff at front desk, restaurant and bar could not have been more gracious, competent and professional. This is a lovely and special hotel.

One of the most amazing places I’ve stayed. Try to book the river view is totally worth it. The city view not so much. On weekends you may hear people on their normal routines which is quite interesting. Wear ear plugs if light sleeper. LOVED IT!

Wonderful historic hotel in a great location. Spotlessly clean hotel. Rooms modern, spacious, well kept and beds so comfortable. Reception staff professional and friendly. I would not recommend the breakfast as very repetitive if staying more than 2 days - only choice was what you wanted on your toast and drink. Evening bar staff rude so only used once but plenty of amazing bars and restaurants in the area. Would stay again and highly recommend the hotel.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Beautiful location right beside the Puente Colgante. Staff were very friendly and service was excellent. Underground stop is about 10 minutes up the hill but there is an escalator to bring you up the steep section. We had a river view which was really nice. Food was excellent. The stay included breakfast which was very nice. Overall this is a really good hotel and one that I will return to when next I visit Bilbao.

OK stay but not a shining review.

We were hoping for a superior double room, which it was but the beds were made separately like a twin. We checked in late after a long drive and although the after-hours concierge was friendly, he couldn’t really help much by getting us a room we wanted, apparently because we had booked via a 3rd party. He showed us another room with a smaller double bed which was in the other side of the hotel (no river view) but said we wouldn’t get a discount if we chose to stay in that room. So we opted for the larger room with separate beds.

Nice location on the waterfront

If you stay at this hotel, pay the extra to have a room with a river view because Portugalete outside of the waterfront is not that beautiful or inviting. The waterfront area though is magnificent. Nice room but small (not much room for luggage). We had twin beds put together but mattresses were quite comfortable. Nice shower but its design makes it splash everywhere else in the bathroom. Parking is free on the street by the hotel but it's difficult to find one. The breakfast was AWFUL and cold and definitely not worth the additional price. While I understand that COVID-19 precautions are necessary, there are plenty of hotels currently serving great breakfast elsewhere in Spain while following great COVID-19 protocole. Train station nearby the hotel to bring you to Bilbao. We stayed there because we had a Christening to attend across the river.

Just an overnight stop before early ferry next day. Staff were friendly and our accommodation was very clean and spacious. (Love the Spanish hotels without those horrible carpets we get in uk.)
Room had a view over the river, the bridge ferry and promenade. Just a 15 minute drive to ferry next morning. Very interesting stay.
Didn’t have the breakfast as thought expensive, as was the overnight parking at €16 but very secure. Would definitely visit again and recommend

The location was brilliant - close to shops, the seaside and easy bus or Metro access to Bilbao. The room was large enough, with a balcony overlooking the river and transporter bridge.
Staff were excellent, friendly & helpful.
We were on a half board but there was only 2 choices each day for evening meals although the food was good.
We would have liked tea & coffee making facilities in the room.
We have stayed before and this is now our favoured hotel in the area.

Breakfast is pretty hard to find in Spain from my experience, so if you’re someone who needs breakfast like me, definitely stay at this hotel!!

Portugalete was a very pleasant surprise. The hotel is right next to some lovely old buildings and a square with traditional tapas bars. It fronts onto a promenade next to the river used by many walkers and runners. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the river (well worth the additional charge) The room was very good and the views outstanding. The hotel has safe underground parking (at a charge) but a bonus in our opinion. Only a 15 minute drive to the Bilbao ferry terminal and best of all, could just drive all along the harbour front without having to get involved with the motorway. The charge to cross the river on the Unesco Hanging Bridge was 0.50 cents which was another little bonus.

The fanciest hotel of our trip to Spain. Large hotel right on the waterfront, we had a great corner room overlooking the streets and being able to watch the ebb and flow of people below. Very stylish, clean & comfortable. Helpful staff and a great verandah bar.

Great hotel in an excellent location. The staff were very friendley and could not do enough to help. There was on site parking at a very reasonable rate. The room was large, very clean and had everything you could wish for. We will be staying again next year.

The hotel is ok and is in a nice area near the water and the old town of Portugalete. My room was clean and spacious. The free portion of the breakfast was tasty and healthy. I only have a few complaints. During my first breakfast, the attendant asked if I wanted anything from the kitchen and offered eggs and bacon, which I accepted. I was surprised to get a bill for 14 Euro for 2 eggs and some warm ham, which I guess was the bacon. I also disliked the pod coffee. The hotel is being renovated, which makes a lot of noise

A tired hotel but good location for ferry

Pros: Location, location! Right by the river with great view of bridge. Close to ferry terminal (20 mins). Close to main tourist sites in Portugalete. Secure parking for car.
Cons: Hotel needs serious updating. Carpets stained and dirty looking, curtains drab, furniture badly stained. The corridors are all grey with no pictures and looks institutional.
This is not a hotel we would chose to stay in other than as a 1 night stop prior to ferry, where we wanted to feel car was well secured. A shame as a few updates combined with the river front location could make this a great stop over.

The hotel is situated on the river at Portugalete, on the outskirts of Bilbao, next to the transporter bridge which is an internationally recognised heritage site. You can travel into centre of Bilbao by rail. The room was very tired but clean. The television was the smallest monitor I have ever seen outside of my satnav. Request a river view. The parking is under the hotel, and costs €16 per night. The public areas are well appointed, and the bar and terraces are comfortable. Despite the condition of the rooms, we will stay there again as the location suits us. We always take breakfast just up from the hotel at the bridge, where there is an excellent cafe, up a small set of stairs.

hotel was hard to find as the sign faces the river, check in staff were helpful after that it went downhill, the room was shabby the fridge was not working, the safe was not working the air con work when it wanted, the restaurant was closed on the sunday so we ate in the bar area, which was a disaster only half of what we ordered turned up, the street outside awoke at 6am,breakfast consisted of dirty tables and dismal food not an hotel I would stop at again.

Close to all amenities and near the Transporter Bridge which takes passengers across the river to Getxo - a resort area with more shops, bars and restaurants. The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. In parts of the hotel it felt tired and in need of refurbishment. The food was good with plenty of choice.

We were greeted by a lovely friendly, professional reception staff who went out of their way to help us get settled.
Nothing was too much trouble and we loved the room that we were booked in to.
Only negative was that there was no kettle. We had our own kettle fortunately but could not use it as the power kept tripping.
Cleanliness and quality was great and it was good value for the price.
The reception staff made us feel welcome and we would come back again based on this experience.

Convenient for the ferry to Portsmouth

If you are looking for reasonably priced accommodation near the Bilbao ferry, with easy access to central Bilbao, look no further. The room was perfectly adequate, although the carpet was threadbare in places and the cheap curtains let the otherwise very pleasant room down. The mattress was surprisingly comfortable, if a little springy. There is a small cafe/restaurant at the hotel, which we used for drinks. Overall good value for the money.

A room with a view

We booked this hotel mainly because it was close to the Brittany Ferries terminal (take care as our SatNav shows the old terminal , if you go the right way, it should only take about 12 minutes). However we were bowled over by the hotel's warm welcome and the views from our room of the transporter bridge and the river. We were fortunate to stay in one of the corner suites which was spacious and had a very comfortable super-king-sized bed. We opted for breakfast which offered a good choice but seemed a little over-priced. The parking is also quite pricey, but less expensive than the secure parking nearby or in Bilbao. It was easy to get into Bilbao by suburban train.

Nice hotel close to the Transporter Bridge

It was a good hotel with a restaurant right on the river front by the World Heritage Transporter Bridge. The staff were good too. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. We had a balcony and good view of the river, the Transporter Bridge and Port of Bilbao. There was lots of activities going on in the pedestrian area below. The beach was within walking distance as were the shops. A very good location. However the wifi in the room, which I needed, was exceptionally poor. I had to go to the Reception area on a couple of occasions to do some work.

Pillows are a bit of a let down, but otherwise good value for what you pay. Friendly and helpful staff. Ten minutes from the ferry port.

Good central location, easy access to the ferry

We wouldn't have been able to find this hotel without the sat nav as it is only really visible from the pedestrianised area from the water front. We also arrived during a major festival which meant some of the roads were closed which added to the fun.
When we checked in we were given no information about the facilities at the hotel but did manage to secure one of the limited underground parking spaces.
The location of the hotel is excellent as its right on the water front next to the Vizcaya bridge and close to the town centre and restaurants although not all speak English.
We decided to have breakfast at the restaurant but when we went in we were told by the waitress our names weren't on the list and couldn't go in. We went to reception and were told that we hadn't requested it when we checked in but eventually we were allowed to pay €24 plus tax for a poor buffet style breakfast and wasn't worth the money.
All in all this hotel is OK for a one night stop on the way to catch the ferry.

Alternative to staying at the airport

Needed a bed for the night before flying out of Bilbao. Chose this location as webhad a car and thought it more interesting here than staying right next to the airport. The hotel is a little dated and tired but it was clean and the first floor room we had looked onto the river, effectively a working port. Breakfast at the hotel was a little disappointing but few options nearby meant with our limited time it was the only choice.

Had too much fun in this town. Their annual festival was right next to the hotel. It faces the canal and has a beautiful incline under the bridge. Very nice people.

Nothing to write home about!

Average hotel with nice view over river. Only virtues are relative location to ferry port and parking garage. Under-staffed like many Spanish hotels, so no service on bar patio. Unmemorable.

Dirty floors in room

The room was awful. I think 319. We had a pet friendly room as we have a small dog. The bedroom floor was so dirty I didn't even want him to be on the floor, let alone us. Carpets are filthy. Also the bathroom floor was really dirty too from the previous occupants. As a positive, the bar and bar food were excellent and the views and location excellent. If you don't need 'dog friendly' I would not recommend this hotel.
