We had a great experience at Petit Palace Tamarises. The staff were very nice and helpful and the breakfast was amazing. Lots of selection of well cooked savory and sweet. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom is modern with many amenities. Parking along the street was also easy to find, and the convenient location on the beach made for a beautiful sunrise. Can’t recommend enough!

We stayed for 4 days and expected to have a good experience based on the most recent reviews. You have to pay for parking the hotel doesn’t have free parking so you can pay for parking on the street not a huge deal. I asked for ice and was told they don’t have an ice machine except she didn’t say they have a small machine in their breakfast area. We found a roach in the second to last day on the first level, yuk. Our shower wouldn’t drain and when we asked for service they said it would have to be the next day. When the guy came he just used some liquid but that probably needed to have stuff removed. That night, not sure if related we had around 2-3am sewer gasses in our room. We had to open the front door and the balcony. I believe it was coming from the AC since I didn’t really smell it in the bathroom. Not a great experience unfortunately.

Great location right on the beach, and close to some places to eat. Good eco credentials. Breakfast choices could have been a little better and perhaps a few more staff. Also would be worth letting guests know about parking before hand, we didn't know we had to reserve paying in the car park, but in the end on street parking using the app was really easy and cheap. Maybe some printed instructions that can be given to guests in the relevant language would be worth looking into.

Nice little beach front hotel. I wish we had booked a beach facing room. The view would have been amazing, I’m sure. Our only drawback was the lack of usb ports available in the room to charge phones etc. These are pretty standard in hotels now and the lack of even one port was unusual.

Fatima and Lucia amazing ladies at reception. They made us feel welcome and as if we were at home. Now ENYA was superb she greeted us every morning before are morning coffee and we actually got to know her as a person. Very kind and responsible. Fantastic location. But upon arrival there is a distinct drain smell. Receptionist is polite and helpful. The room needs a good deep clean. Lots of dust, cobwebs and indentations on the floor.
For the cost of the stay which had to be 3 days I would defiantly not stay here again.

Great location just opposite a lovely beach. There is a good selection of restaurants, cafes and bars within a couple of minutes' walk and a lovely promenade walk into the marina and main town. We stayed for 5 nights in a room with a balcony and sea view. Bed was really comfortable and the room was a good size. Breakfast was 12 Euros and there was a good selection of food. Staff friendly and helpful.

Great hotel in lovely location, opposite the beach and minutes away from the marina and a shopping centre. The staff were very nice and welcoming. The room was clean and very spacious even for a family of 2 adults and 2 kids, with a super comfortable queen bed and 2 bunk beds. They even went the extra mile welcoming our dog with a bed, a pair of bowls and a packet of food!! Highly recommended

Very unique hotel overlooking the ocean. Parking was easy on the street directly in front. Seveal restaurants and Room Service from a good sushi restaurant available. Ordered take-away breakfast in the am since we were leaving early for a flight. Went to check-out and was then told it was not available till 7am. Front desk refunded our 11 Euro and then proceeded to take us over to dining room and made us coffee and gave us muffins. Would definitley recommend it here. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Nice little beachside hotel.

Very pleasant stay. Lovely little beach with an ancient fishing village nearby. Getxo has a few hidden treasures to discover, and Bilbao is an interesting town. The local addiction to speed cameras makes driving unpleasant and stressful though, as we counted 15 cameras on one stretch of road, including at the top of Motorway slip roads.

Our stay was just for one night. My initial review was not favourable due to the very loud music coming from the bar next door till late that night and our room seemed to be right next to it. When we checked out in the morning, the receptionist had seen my review and was very apologetic, she explained that a few people had complained about the noise and the hotel had ended up calling the police to see if they could be of any help. In addition she also gave us a gift on behalf of the hotel as a token of apology which wasn’t necessary but very thoughtful. She really couldn’t apologise enough and seemed genuinely concerned.

Unpretentious, comfy hotel overlooking the beach

The hotel is very nice, staff are very helpful, good situation, overlooking the beach, walking distance from the metro and a huge variety of good tapas bars in the old town. The breakfast is excellent and the bedrooms and bathrooms are very well appointed. The rooms can be noisy (if there is a festival going on) which is to be expected, however they are very hot and the AC isn't particularly effective so the window had to be left open overnight. All in all I would definitely stay again.

We stayed here for one night as we needed to be near the port and the central hotels in Bilbao had sold out. This hotel is situated approx 25 minutes drive from the port. Midday checkout was ideal as our boat was delayed. The hotel was clean and modern with comfortable beds. We found a free parking space outside the hotel entrance. Staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. We had a lovely sea view room with a balcony overlooking the beach and an iPad was provided for use free of charge. WiFi was good. We ate in one of the adjacent restaurants which wasn’t cheap but the food was nice and portions huge. Overall good experience.

Our room was lovely but did not have a sea view unfortunately. Instead it faced into an interior area which was frankly a bit gloomy. The breakfast room was pleasant but the dish of scrambled eggs had the consistency of plastic! To be fair the receptionist only charged so for breakfast on one day as a consequence. The staff on the front desk were most pleasant and helpful.

Getxo's beach front property!

It is a small boutique hotel in Getxo's beach, with amazing ocean view rooms with large balconies supplied with a table and two chairs.

Room was spacious and a nice large bathroom too. Rooms are fitted to fit up to 6 people, which is ideal if traveling with children (two sets of bunk beds at either side of a large bed).

If you do not want to walk far, they serve breakfast, but the restaurant next door is available any other time. It is close to the marina, where you can find a host of restaurants to satisfy pretty much any palate.

Great prices and really customer-driven staff. Awesome find!

Our room was a bit musty smelling. Everything else was fine. Hotel was under new management and doesn't really have a social area in the lobby. It only provides breakfast for an additional cost. It is a bit of a walk from the metro station. As far as a basic hotel it was fine and the location was excellent if you want to be near the beach and fishing villages.

Friendly, under-rated, hotel by the beach

From the moment we checked-in through to the moment we checked-out, the hotel staff were consistently friendly and helpful. Despite arriving early, our room had already been prepared and we were able to get the keys straight away - very handy after an early morning flight with two young children in tow. The family room we were in was on the top floor with a fantastic view over the beach and bay, and was a comfortable place to stay when not out exploring.

It's unfortunate this hotel has so many neutral/poor reviews built up over years gone by, because it seems as if the management have worked hard to address the problems of the past with the result that the hotel is now a far more pleasant place to stay than might appear to be the case based purely on what those reviews say without also taking into account how long ago some of them were written - though there are still some minor points that could be improved upon, the standard of the hotel today is such that you'd have to be extremely picky to give it anything less than an above average rating.

Weather do not help too much

It is a nice hotel to rest. Close to bilbao center by metro (Neguri is the closest station). Once in Bilbao do not forget to go for \"pinchos\" around Casco Viejo.
Unfortunately it was one of the worst winter in last 30 years in that area so I could not enjoy it as much as expected.

The hotel itself is very plush and clean and the food was high quality. A lot of travellers will like their surroundings. My two complaints were that we stopped in October on a freezing night but there was no heating and the lift centre of the building is very nosey.

The heating is easy sorted but it takes 24 hours apparently to turn it on once the winter months are here. When I complained, the management were excellent, they were quick and professional in their response.

We found the hotel really comfortable, and loved the all singing all dancing shower. 4 seconds from the beach for an evening stroll and the breakfast was good, so much to choose from and all good. No cheval mirror (or even a full length mirror stuck to a wall), which is the thing lacking in the bedroom. Our room was very quiet, the mini bar was well stocked and the staff really friendly and spoke good English.

Had a problem finding this hotel as the name on the building is High Teck Tamarises. We ended up walking along the road asking where the Petit Palace was.. We were actually standing outside this hotel when a couple of Spanish ladies insisted this was the hotel we were looking for, and only for their insistence did we ask at reception.

When I arrived at the hotel, the façade had scaffolding covering some of it and it was difficult to locate the actual entrance. The staff were friendly and directed me to my room. When I got to the floor, the entire floor carpeting was covered with sheets, apparently to protect the carpet from workers, though I was never informed by the staff of the situation. By next morning, the sheets were gone.
The hotel does have a wonderful location across the street from a nice, long beach. The price I paid for the weeknights I was there was a great value.

My son stayed here on his wedding night last year and had said that although the location is good that some of the rooms were very small, including the one he stayed in , however the room we had was a good size. We did not like the glass dividing wall between the toilet and bedroom, some things are better kept private! Overall we really enjoyed our stay

This hotel is worth more than 3 star, but due to lack of restaurant and bar, it can't be 4 stars. Very clean room, balcony facing the beach. Beach is wonderful and clean, and right across the street. The only \"false advertisement\" is that they say parking is free. They do not have any onsite parking. You have to be lucky and find a spot on the street, which is free. We were lucky and found one right behind the hotel. Each room has a laptop computer. We thought that was great until we found out access to the internet was not functionning and they promised they'd replace the laptop, but then didn't replace it and said that it was simply the reception of Wi-Fi which was weak. I had to go to the lobby to access the public computer to go on the internet. The gentleman at the front desk was amazingly helpful. Even though there is a tourist office 2 minutes away, he was able to tell us where to go in Bilbao and how to get there by subway, which was a much better idea than driving the car in and paying for parking.

Nice hotel close to the beach

Located overlooking the beach in Getxo, The Tamarises is a very stylish hotel with a few nice extra touches such as a computer available in the room. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Getxo is very quiet and not to everyone's taste but we enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere and the hotel is in walking distance of the metro into Bilbao centre. The parking was an issue for us but after sunset when the beach empties, parking outside the hotel is very easy. If you don't like the hustle and bustle of a city centre, this is a good place to stay.

By the beach

Hotel is located across from the beach (which is cleaned daily) and is convenient to restaurants and bars. Rooms are smallish compared to US standards with small closet. Faucet over middle of sink gets in the way. Metro stations (Neguri or Algorta) are a walk up a fairly steep hill with Neguri being closer. Direct link to Bilbao so no need for a car. Hotel staff were very polite and speak English. Hotel is located about 30 minutes from Bilbao airport and costs approx. 35 Euros by taxi. Given hotel's location, get a room overlooking the sea. It may cost a bit more but is worth it.
We ordered a taxi for 7.30 a.m. and it was waiting for us right on time. We had a very good stay at the hotel, very much recommend it (but remember it is away from Bilbao). Be prepared to walk the neighborhoods in search of bars and restaurants, you won't be disappointed.
Metro note from Bilbao - make sure you see the final metro stop on the platform board or front of train coming back to the hotel (Plencia) otherwise you could end up on the other side of the bay.

With the amount this hotel cost to stay in, plus the cost of the dining and breakfast buffet, this isn't good value for money.

The high tech moniker they carry would have been valid 20 years ago, and may have even justified the additional costs, but it now it is just overpriced and worn out.
There have obviously been years of bodgy or overlooked repairs undertaken on the building and the railings on our balcony were dangerously rusty.

Parking over the road was charged at 11 euros and the breakfast buffet was another 9 euros per person.

On the plus side, the bathroom was very nice, the bed large and the room clean and comfortable.

Great location and service!

Had the best service person at the desk! Really went above and beyond to help, and happy to offer suggestions for restaurants, sights, etc. Breakfast was tasty, with nice choices at the buffet. Couldn't ask for a better location! Really a bargain! The only downside is that, although the front is a bit dated, there clearly has been some nice redoing of the interior. The plumbing didn't quite match the updates - shower overflowed, as the drain didn't keep up with the (albeit nice) water pressure, and our second day there was an odd smell in our room and the hotel bathroom (perhaps working on the plumbing? ) other than that, an excellent - and surprisingly bargain- stay!

HOTEL IS GREAT, ALTHOUGH THEY NEED TO UPDATE SOME THINGS. GREAT LOCATION. BEWARE OF THE NEW TAMARISES RESTAURANT NEXT DOOR. MOST UN BASQUE FOOD . IT PAINS ME TO SAY SO, BUT FOOD IS BAD AND OVERPRICED. WE ORDERED A \"PAELLA\" WE ARE STILL TRYING TO RECOVER... DO NOT ORDER THEIR SUSHI UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, IT IS ANYTHING BUT. I read some complaints about this hotel, but these proved to be \"old\", the Wifi was good and fast, the rooms cool and modern, with some \"Spanish\" style, in keeping with Bilbao. Most of the staff spoke good English and helped with my poor Spanish! Easy to get in to Bilbao on the Metro and with good bars and cheap food near the hotel - I am going back!

High Tech - Not Really!

From the outside the hotel looked very delapidated. Balcony railings were heavily corroded. paintwork was tired.
Inside the hotel was quite clean. I had what the hotel called an 'Executive room with a Queen bed'. The room was very cramped and the desk was so close to the bed it was difficult to sit properly. I could not push the chair backwards because of the bed and I could not sit with my legs under the well of the desk because the chair was hard against the metal bedside shelf.
The shower was good, with a rainfall type shower and horizontal jets as well. But the sink was not practical. It was teacup shaped, which was ok, but the tap came straight out from the wall over the sink. I could not put my head down to wash my face without hitting the tap.
The hotel had WIFI everywhere but, although I could connect to it, I could not get to my e-mails and other on-line programs that I needed for my work. Each room had a laptop with direct wired internet. This was ok and I could get most of my on-line requirements, but not all. When I complained to the front desk the receptionist was not helpful at all and all I got very little help except \"other guests do not have a problem\".
Breakfast was ok but not great but it was as expected from a hotel of that type.

Excellent location but poor internet

This hotel is in a superb location, is very clean and has 'high tech' mod cons. Breakfast was great but no restaurant for evening meals. The bed was a bit hard. The big downside was their WIFI internet access was poor and although I could get into Google I could not get to my e-mails or any other sites that were important to me on my own laptop. They did have laptops in every room soi if you do not need to access data on your own laptop then you will find this hotel good in all respects.

High Tech Tamarises overlooking the beach.

We stayed here for a stopover before getting the Santander ferry home. We had intended to go sightseeing in Bilboa which was a 20 minute drive away but the weather was so hot we just went across the road to the beach. The room was fine abit worn in places but the views made up for this. It smelt abit funny on arrival but although a nonsmoking room we thought someone had been smoking in it. The initial receptionist (who wore glasses) was really unfriendly but the rest of the staff were great. We didn't eat there the cafe to the right overlooking the beach was really good. Parking on summer weekends is really difficult we were lucky and got a space outside as a bike race had just finished. We were also lucky as there were amazing fireworks on the beach in the evening. Our room was a queensize but was actually 2 single beds that kept sliding apart,you need a sense of humour! We found the room quiet after 11 but would recommend a balcony as the view is brilliant.

High Tech Tamarisis Hotel, Near Bilbao

Located just accross the road to a lovely beach in the seaside resort of Gaxto, near Bilbao. We stayed for onr night before sailing back to Uk. It was quite difficult to find - instructions were poor. A funky, modern hotel with laptop in each bedroom. Unfortunately our room was at the back and had no view at all - except a wall. Reception staff were not the most pleasant we've come across. Room was adequate. Problem with parking - only on street - which is very busy especially on a warm day when there are hundreds on the beach. Plenty to keep children occupied and various eateries within walking distance as well as hotel restaurant which we didn't use

High Tech Hotel Tamarises

We booked this hotel as an overnight stop after the ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao, and the only bad thing about it was that it was a bit difficult to find, so best to do a route planner request before you go. We loved the family room which was very comfortable, with an enormous double bed and proper bunks for the children. Bathroom was nice with a good shower. We had a sea view and the beach was just across the road, so went in the sea before dinner. Didn't see much of the staff, but the ones we dealt with were pleasant and helpful. Had we been staying longer we would have made use of the laptop and internet access provided in the room, which I think was free. Overall and excellent choice if you want a family room.

Funky or what

It certainly was a funky hotel. It was nice having free internet as well. The only thing I was disappointed with was that we asked for a wake-up call at 4:45 as we had to catch a flight early at the Bilbao airport- fortunately we woke up on our own as the call never came. The clerk at the front desk didn't seem concerned but perhaps it's that he didn't understand English very well.

L' emplacement de l'hôtel est fabuleux ,il est face a l'océan pratique pour aller a la plage. Le petit déjeuner est bon. Le promenoir et la piste cyclable sont très agréables , ils partent , du village des pêcheurs et vont plus loin que le pont de Biscaye . Pour info: nous avons pris une chambre au 1er étage , elle donnait sur l' intérieur , avec une petite fenêtre et ont entendait l' évacuation de l eau des chambres du 2 -ème et 3 -ème étage .Sinon la salle de bain est très bien avec une douche hydromassante. Nous avons passé un agréable séjour.
