Absolutely not a 4-star hotel — beware of hostile management

I never leave reviews, but Hotel Club Sorrento deserves a serious warning. The room I was given was nowhere near the standard of a so-called 4-star property — think budget roadside motel, not the Sorrento experience advertised online. I’ve stayed in La Quinta Inns that were cleaner and better maintained.

Before booking, read the bad reviews and notice how “Luigi,” the manager, responds. Unfortunately, those comments aren’t exaggerating. When I contacted Expedia to request a refund and move elsewhere, he actually got in my face in the lobby, yelling and accusing me of complaining “just because I’m American.” After Expedia called him, he offered to “upgrade” me — something I never asked for or needed — and then used that against me as leverage. This was the second of three rooms I was shuffled between during a two-night stay. He even threatened to call the police simply because I had reached out to Expedia. Truly pathetic behavior.

The pictures used to sell the hotel bear little resemblance to what you actually get. The property feels tired, small, and poorly kept. Luigi may be proud of his establishment, but that doesn’t make it any less disappointing.

Save yourself the headache: there are far better options in Sorrento for the same price (or less). Travelers coming from far away deserve a warm welcome and the quality promised — not hostility and sub-par rooms.

The accommodation was quite nice. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and the host was a sweet older gentleman. We had arrived by train and walked which is a bit far with luggage. Had we been more aware there is a bus that goes across the street from hotel.

I recently stayed at Hotel Club in Sorrento and had a deeply disappointing experience. I had chosen this hotel hoping for a clean and comfortable stay, but I unfortunately encountered bed bugs in my room. When I reported the issue to the front desk, I was moved to a second room, only to find that it too had bed bugs.

The building manager, Luigi, and I spent time searching for other available rooms, and after inspecting four different options, I reluctantly settled on a fifth room. Now, I’m left with bed bug bites all over my body, which has overshadowed my entire trip. I wouldn't recommend this hotel due to the pest issues and overall lack of cleanliness.

WiFi was my biggest issue - properties speeds are dreadfully slow. Friendly staff but difficult to get a hold of someone as it’s a family operation that limits their abilities to man the front desk, bar, etc. clean rooms and comfortable enough, though I can understand others guests gripes.

Way too expensive for the experience. There are much better hotels nearby. Stay in Sorrento proper.
Pictures made the property seem way better than reality.
The rooms are terribly noisy without any sound dampening - you will hear talking in rooms beside you. Steps above you. Showers and toilette flushes.
The hotel isn’t in a great area, and a considerable walk to Sorrento. The only benefit to location is metro close by.

Maybe 40 years ago! Absolutely awful. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The mattresses are stiff and plastic bumps protruding through all over!!!

The only thing that was tolerable was the breakfast and the lovely staff that attended to us.

Overall good stay. However I wouldn’t say it was a 4 star hotel more like a 3 star. Lovely staff. Beware this hotel is NOT a short walk to sorrento. I booked under the impression it was a 15/20 min walk to sorrento but I was mistaken to get to the main part of sorrento you are talking upward of 30-40mins at a decent pace. On the other hand Sant Agnello beach was nice. Breakfast could be better had scrambled eggs (good note) everything else lacked. Bed and pillow you could tell were old as you could feel lumps in pillow, bed was very firm. Bathroom was old fashioned + had an old fashion shower curtain which I didn’t like due to knowing that you can’t clean it therefore hygiene. Room had kettle no condiments, no complimentary water. Good A/C. Pool looked ok but may be shaded at different times of the day.

This hotel was perfect for what we needed it for. It’s close to the train station so very easy to get on the train to Sorrento if you don’t want to walk. It’s very close to a beach club as well. There is many restaurants near by as well. The staff were amazing!! Very friendly and helpful. There is this older fellow that greeted us everyday and was the sweetest thing!! There is a breakfast in the morning as well. The room was small but had everything you need. It definitely is an older building but they keep it clean and it did what we needed it for and for the price.Cleaned everyday and provided with fresh linens. Definitely would stay here again due to location and staff.

My stay here for 2 nights was wonderful, they have great rooms with air conditioning, the breakfast buffet was amazing, and all the staff were extremely helpful giving information about the area and public transportation.

Only downfall I found with this hotel is that it is about 2km from the actual city of Sorrento meaning there are limited dining options around the area.

This was a great stay. My wife and I stayed for 9 nights! The best thing about Hotel Club is the staff. They are friendly and hospitable. If you get to know them and talk to them they will make sure you are treated like family. It was a pleasure to be apart of that during our stay. The hotel itself is clean and beautiful. They have wonderful sub sections of the hotel, breakfast/dinner area, bar and lounge, pool area, and rooftop terrace. Great way to meet new people and not be in the room. The location in Sant’ Angello is awesome! Great big church across the street, and a choice of three different and fantastic bars across the street. The train station is down the street (5 min walk) and great restaurants, we recommend Ristorante Moonlight. Overall Hotel Club is simple, sweet, and the perfect place if you want to enjoy your stay in the Sorrento area. 5 out of 5 stars!

Definitely not 4 star. Approx 10min walk from sanit Angelo train station, beds rock hard and lumpy thin pillows which made it almost impossible to have a good nights sleep which affected our whole trip. Room was large though with balcony over looking pool and well insulated considering right next to train line. would prefer smaller room with a good mattress. Shower pressure was good if you could fit in, the smallest shower I’ve ever seen, 66cm x 66cm. Don’t drop the soap as you can’t pick it up and trying to wash your hair with your arms hitting the sides was difficult. Kettle in room but no tea, coffe or milk. Our fridge didn’t work , nore did other guests we spoke to. It is clean and the pool was great to come back to after a long day out to cool off in though. Breakfast average, cold eggs and not even much of a continental. Would not stay here again or recommend , mainly due to the bad bed, pillows and tiny shower.

Unfortunately this is the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in and the smallest shower stall. Very disappointing barely enough room for 2 people. The staff were nice so that helped. Pool was just ok. The breakfast was not gteat but at least it jad coffee. The hotel could do with an upgrade overall. Pictures provided are from like 5-6 years ago. Our room wasn't even shown. About a 30mins walk to Sorrento. Overall i wouldn't go back or even recommend

Lovely hotel. Bedroom and bathroom spotless clean. Comfy bed. Big balcony for us to sit on a night with a glass of wine. Large selection of food for breakfast. Friendly and pleasant staff nothing to much trouble. Roof terrace and jacuzzi if wanted at additional cost. A 30 minute walk into Sorrento or you can catch the bus or train.

I am writing my first review since I was so disappointed with my stay. I believe we were given the worst room available. Booked a standard double room but received 4 single beds. We pushed two beds together but the sheets were single. The room did not look like the website photos. The room entry was from the courtyard and it is on the other side of the breakfast/dinning room. The door key was a manual key that took forever to open each time.

The beds were uncomfortable. The bathroom is small with a tiny shower that didn't drain well. I had to shower, let the water drain, then wash my feet before getting out. It was so annoying. My first night there, I showered in cold water without realizing the water heater was down. I was not a happy camper.

The breakfast was ok. I basically ate a croissant with ham and cheese. Hot food was scrambled egg and mini hotdogs.

The staff was friendly and helpful but I would not return in the future.

Very friendly greeting on arrival and a glass of prosecco. Decorated lovely throughout. Had balcony with pool view. Room was spacious with air conditioning, free safe, hairdryer. No fridge or tea/coffee making facilities and not much in the way of toiletries but this wasn't a problem. Plenty of choice for breakfast. Pool area cleaned daily and there is also a roof top terrace with jacuzzis (chargeable). Great location with train station about 10 min walk and bus stop at the top of the road. Plenty of shops, restaurants and bars in the area. Beach about 15 min walk which has a lift down to it which costs 1 euro to use. Not much sand area but plenty of loungers which are 10 euro to hire for the day.

We stayed for two weeks, the staff were very helpful and went out of their way to help.
Very well located for transport links to go to Amalfie coast, Capri, Pompei and Naples.
Sorrento is just a couple of bus stops away.

Nice quiet and relaxing hotel with pool, shaded garden area and a new rooftop area with sunbeds and soon to be operative jacuzzis (×4). Very friendly and welcoming staff. Situated in a quiet road, close to bars and restaurants of St Agnello (100m). Located 50m to bus stops for Amalfi, Positano and Sorrento etc. 400m to Circumvesuia train station for local trains to Sorrento (1 stop), Pompei, Versuvius, Herculanium and Naples.

Good staff but not great hotel

Hotel was/is 4 star but not sure how... i stayed in a single room which was less then 6ft wide and about 10ft long not to mention very tired! the bathroom was just a shower with a shower curtain that was barely on. Breakfast was ok; not much choice and no variety for the 4 nights I stayed. also no ironing facilities... had to go to a launderette down the road.

Staff were really good though and very helpful with Taxi's/directions etc.

The Club Hotel worked well for me. It has an easy location to walk into Sorrento or over to the train to go towards Naples. The staff is exceedingly nice. The hotel manager even was up at 4:15am to see us off when our driver came to pick us up. They have a nightly dinner menu which offered variety and a fair price. I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Ideal to go to Pompeii

We stayed in the hotel on a three night stay to visit Pompeii, Herculaneum and Sorrento. The station was 5 minutes walk away - which was what we wanted and from the moment we walked through the door the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was very clean and the towels were changed every day and our room was cleaned. We were so tired at the end of the day that we were very happy to eat in the restaurant where we had good, tasty italian home cooking, decently priced wine to choose from and finally were sung italian opera by one of the waiters. A lovely rest and although very close to the railway line never really noticed the trains.

Good location to see Amalfi and Pompei but...

... the noise was insufferable. We couldn't get a nights sleep due to bar noise and the street noise. The mornings we we're up close to 5 due to garbage trucks. The doors to the rooms don't shut quietly either. The only saving grace to this hotel was the staff. The family of this hotel we're amazing and wonderful people. I'm glad to have met them but would not recommend hotel to those wanting to sleep.

perfect place as everything you need is near by!

I stayed for 5 days with 4 girls including myself, my overall stay was pleasing but there were an issues we had- that being that we did not have a balcony or 4single beds as we were promised however they were very understanding and apologetic. The pool was very nice and they was room service daily, if your a family or a couple i would highly recommend it. the food was very nice and overall layout of the hotel was modern and fashionable. you would not regret choosing the hotel!

Perfect place to crash

It's a charming, family run hotel with everything you could possibly need for your stay in Sant Agnello. It is close to the train station for easy access to the sights. My single occupancy room was compact but perfect for my requirements. The towels were changed daily and although the breakfast was basic it was delish. The staff are super friendly and genuinely seem pleased to have you there. As well as the hotel itself there are lots of local places to eat and drink in too.

hotel is OK if you have no other choice. On the train tracks so very noisy. AC not efficient and noisy... Air filter filthy. Staff can sometime be edgy but overall nice. We did overpay for this hotel about 4 times its value. I suggest you try to get something else if you can.

Perfect if you're exploring the area!

A great hotel just a little down the road from the main part of Sorrento. It's rooms are cosy for two people sharing but was perfect for what we needed. The car park round the corner is safe and a bargain for 10Euros per day. With a train into Sorrento for 1Euro or a taxi for 15 it's a perfect place if you're not planning on staying in and as a base to explore the area.

Great staff, 25 min walk from central Sorrento

The staff at this hotel were friendly, helpful, welcoming and hard-working from the word go. They ensured that we had everything we needed to have a good time away, provided a superb service and were happy to offer advice on local areas.

Located on a fairly quiet cobbled side street, away from the busy main street. Our room was a good size with plenty of seating and storage space, and as far as I could tell, each room has a balcony. Ours looked out over the front of the hotel with amazing views over yonder hills. The cliff tops are at the other end of the road about 5 minutes walk away - the views from there are incredible and offer a perfect spot to watch the sunset.

Lovely and clean all round with a smallish pool but big enough for cooling off in the afternoon heat, and surrounded by loungers with an area for al fresco dining. The indoor bar area could be a bit more welcoming if it wasn't so bright but that's my only quibble with the hotel itself.

Sant' Agnello (where the hotel is - just outside Sorrento) has plenty of handy resources and is on several of the main bus routes (notably the Naples airport bus) but buses pass through less frequently on Sunday's/holidays so in this case it's better to catch one from Sorrento central railway station. It took us about 1/2 hour along a busy road with narrow, uneven pathways to walk to central Sorrento so perhaps not ideal if you have young children, although I believe most organised tours will pick-up and drop-off from hotels.

When I first checked into the hotel I had a favorable impression. The staff was friendly and the hotel was clean. My room was comfortable and clean. The air conditioning was on and the windows were open so I could hear the bells that everyone else has complained about. I closed the windows and could not hear them as much. The wifi worked great the first night. The second day the wifi was in and out. I wanted to shower but there was no water in my room that evening. I assumed it was like some hotels Ive been to in other countries where they shut off the water at certain times. The next day I came back to my room and they did not clean my room very good and did not leave clean towels. They also turned off my air conditioning and I could not get it to come back on. I went to the pool to cool off and the bartender yelled at me for hanging on to the edge of the pool while I was in the pool. He told me I had to stay in the middle of the pool. He was rude so I just got out of the pool. I could never get my air conditioer back on and the wifi did not work at all. Without the air running I could hear the bells very loudly and did not sleep well due to the heat and the noise. I went to the front desk to ask about the wifi and the woman at the front desk pretty much told me to deal with it. I was also charged a tax of one euro a night per person.

My husband and myself used this hotel for 5 nights as a base for our travels in the area. The hotel is spotless rooms were made up every day. The staff are all amazing people who went out of their way to accommodate our needs. The breakfasts were continental and delicious!, if we are ever in the area again I would deff stay in this hotel. They even made us breakfast and coffee at 5.30 a.m on the day of our departure.

Great service, but...

A bit further to Sorrento than you'd imagine, but excellent restaurants nearby (Taverna Rossa is literally down the same street as the hotel) and a reasonably quick hoof from the Circumvesuviana station.

Friendly and helpful staff all-around, but the breakfast leaves much to be desired and our room was rather small. The neighbourhood gets noisy too -- some good (church bells chiming the quarter-hour), some bad (the Circumvesuviana passes very close to the hotel). And in terms if noise and trying to get a night's rest, stay out of (southern?) Italy over New Year's -- they LOVE marching bands and late-night firecrackers.

Luigi and the gang made us feel at home, excellent serive and a nice garden pool, located Just off Sant Agnollo square, it is a good 15-20 minute walk through the back streets into Sorrento. Near the hotel is a fantastic restaurant with views along the coast - La Terraze, there is a lift to a small beach below.

Hotel Club - Sorrento

clean and tidy with plenty of room to move round. Could here the Street noise. The walls are very thin and could hear people next door. Lots of yelling in the hallways by other people. Staff friendly and helpful.

Nice hotel, VERY FAR from the action

If you're looking for a nice, generally clean hotel at a relatively low price, this is the one. My only complaints were: (1) I had a 'single' room which was about the size of a closet. I think as long as you have more than 1 person, the rooms are plenty big. (2) This hotel was a good 30 minute walk from the action in Sorrento. The walk was also along very skinny streets with lots of traffic, sometimes no sidewalk area. If you are looking for a fun time in Sorrento, I would NOT stay here because of the location.

Not helpful with parking, but a clean room.

If you are driving, they will send you and a fool's errand looking for a place that sells parking coupons. But the rooms are clean, though small.

Hotel Club in Sorrento, Italy

We stayed at the Hotel Club at the end of May, 2011. The beds were hard but the roooms were clean. The bathrooms and showers were very small but adequate for us. Our shower was cold one night and the drain was clogged but the hotel staff fixed the problems as soon as possible. There was no AC until June first. There should be a soap dish in the shower stall and a hook for your towel nearby. No Internet connection was available. No parking was available. The hotel is in a good location near a bus stop. The free breakfast was good but limited. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
