I have had the most lovely several days in sorrento on a solo trip and that is primarily because of this hotel. The staff is so lovely and attentive. The grounds are stunning. The beach access at the bottom of the cliff is heavenly. I love the dining staff, the food has been extraordinarily fresh and innovative. Being there, living at that place for several days , is a highlight among all of my lodging experiences I have ever had. And I have traveled to six continents over three decades. I want to reiterate- lovely, lovely staff. Arrivederci. Until we meet again. We WILL meet again.

We loved the architecture and setting of La Cocumella and its history from the late 1500s. We enjoyed the pool and beach area a couple of times during our 8 night stay, although it was early in the season. The gardens are lovely and serene and we enjoyed that oasis of calm.
The breakfasts were amazing — everything from fresh fruits, freshly baked pastries, cheeses and meats/fish, cereals, yogurts, and a cooking station where eggs were cooked on demand. It was probably the best breakfast buffet I’ve ever seen.
We ate in the pretty dining room on our first night and enjoyed it immensely. We were also thrilled with the female saxophone player who played during dinner- a lovely touch!
Giuseppe, the concierge, who has been working there for 30 years was outstanding and very helpful throughout our stay. The hotel is 2 km from downtown.
My only less positive comments were in contrast to other five star resorts. 1) Bottled water was provided in our room on our first night only. After that we had to order it from the bar for 5 euros. This is in contrast to every other 5 star resort we stayed in that supplied bottled water every day. I think this is a minimum expectation to provide drinking water for guests.
2) the carpet runners in the upstairs halls (we were on the 2nd floor) were looking a little weathered and in need of replacement. Once again - just a minor observation that we both made but given this is a well known, historic hotel, it brought our overall rating just a touch

Beautiful property with impeccable service!
The concierge was amazing, helpful with everything and anything you could need. Breakfast every morning was beyond amazing.

Our initial room had some issues with noise from a vent however the hotel was very accommodating and switched us rooms with no problem.

The food, drinks and views from the lounge and restaurant by the water are unbeatable! Also very close to downtown Sorrento, with free shuttle or 10 min easy walk.

The property is a beautiful former monastery. Gardens are lush, green and colorful. Hotel has magnificent, sweeping views of the sea with a private beach and beautiful pool. The rooms are spacious but could use some upgrading. The staff was incredible. They were helpful and couldn’t do enough to help you and accommodate your asks. The concierges,Giuseppe and Salvatore were amazing as were the front desk personnel, Michele and Rosella. This hotel had the most incredible, inclusive breakfast. It was insane. The restaurant staff works so hard and is so charismatic and friendly. Our stay in Sorrento was made more special with our staying at this magical hotel property.

Went here with my family of five - it was a bit pricey, but it was worth every penny if it. My family enjoyed every bit of the property - from the gardens, restaurants, ocean views from the terrace, down to the beach - this place was paradise. We would highly recommend staying here it was extremely convenient to get to Sorrento and the Amalfi coast.

If you’re looking for a classic family-focused Sorrento experience, look no further than the Cocumella.

Before we arrived in Sorrento, our excellent concierge, Giuseppe, and his team helped us arrange several services. Upon arrival, friendly staff greeted us and remained attentive throughout our stay. Although there were a couple of issues with our room, the team immediately attended to our needs. From the staff to the food, the views, facilities, location, and history, we were delighted at every turn. Although we stayed for five days, the staffing was consistent and doted on our toddler, making our stay feel effortless. We will be revisiting this lovely hotel in the future.

The property is gorgeous. The breakfast daily was spectacular. The location is perfect for walking to town. The staff all seemed happy and ready to help in any way possible. I would recommend having the hotel help with the airport transfers as they do a much better job than handling this on line. We would definitely go there again.

Beautiful hotel and room. A bit out of town but they have a shuttle and we actually enjoyed the walk home a few evenings after a big dinner. Only cons: they confirmed a dinner reservation for us and when we arrived they said the restaurant was closed that evening and the next. It also was cloudy one day and they closed the pool.
Breakfast buffet was amazing and fitness room is solid.

Beautiful Hotel. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Grounds were beautiful with a variety of trees, foliage’and plants. Pool was very large and very clean. Beach area was in the Mediterranean. Unique. The view from the beach upwards to the cliffs was breathtaking. Hotel also offered a free shuttle to Tessio Square. Would definitely return.

The Cocumella is an absolute gem. The staff are truly the heart of this hotel and are what make it so wonderful. We felt at home and in great hands the entire time and truly received the best service from every single staff member. The hotel, the oldest in all of Sorrento has a classic charm as well as very unique features such as an organic garden that is used to make fresh lunch by the pool. Giuseppe, the concierge is fantastic, making the best recommendations for food, excursions and more! I could not be happier with the Cocumella. Truly. The best hotel in Sorrento and the Amalfi coast! Look no further and stay here. Trust me you will not regret it.

This is a beautiful small hotel on the cliff of the coast, with gorgeous views from the cliff, and a private beach and dock. It is gorgeous, and we had the beach to ourselves most of the time. The kids loved it, and found hundreds of sea glass in the sand. The breakfast was delicious and rooms very comfortable

The staff were amazing - we were greeted by Stella upon arrival who then invited us to welcome drinks at their bar that evening. She was helpful before my trip (answering all my emails promptly and addressing my concerns) and even warmer and more wonderful in person. Giuseppe did the same - he gave helpful advice through email before my arrival and was friendly and helpful in person as well. The property was lovely and well maintained. We took many pictures on the hotel grounds. Overall, a wonderful stay!

Close to Sorrento but with peace and quiet

We had three nights at the Cocumella and would recommend it for it's opulent interiors , beautiful gardens and pool and friendly staff.
Breakfasts are extensive but don't bother with the hot food , this is Italy !
There is a free shuttle service to Sorrento but you can walk in 20 minutes too .
My only negative point is the access to the sea , the steps are not well maintained and although there is a lift , when you arrive at sea level it is untidy and the bathing platform looks poor compared to others . It doesn't give a good opinion of the hotel from the sea.

Beautiful, large, well equipped hotel

Check in was delightful and my room was large and well equipped. The pool is staggeringly lovely with a pretty restaurant covered by a lemon grove. The pontoon down the cliffs is beautiful. The gym needs some work but otherwise I would recommend this Hotel strongly. Good value for money, presumably because it is 2km or so outside of Sorrento. But it is a truly fabulous, impressive hotel.

The hotel is beautiful and set in an old monastery. The welcome from staff was professional but not warm. Upon arrival we were told of a boat trip costing 200 euros pp and a dinner costing 70 euros pp. It is nice to know what's going on but this very much like the hotel trying to get more money from us before we'd even been to our room. The first room we were taken to was more like a studio and didn't have an separate bathroom and fell way below our expectations from a five star hotel. The room was also dusty and not as clean as I expected. After complaining we were then moved to a better, cleaner room. That was after we'd been offered the chance to pay for an upgrade which I thought was quite cheeky. As if we hadn't paid enough for our room which certainly was not cheap! All we wanted was a suitably clean room!

There isn't much in Sant'Agnello but the hotel do offer a shuttle service into Sorrento which was handy if you can't face a 25 minute walk into Sorrento.

Breakfast is very average and the hotel insist on bringing it you every morning which seems very wasteful as we rarely ate all the pastries etc on offer. i'm not sure why they don't just let you help yourself like most other hotels. They also have the cheek to charge people extra for some fresh fruit along with things such as an omelette and pancakes

The pool area is beautiful and very clean. We tended not to use the pool bar as it was very expensive (5 euros for 500ml water, 24 euros for some pizza)

Got there the tub dosent drain. Called them they came to fix it but never was able to. We ask them to change our rooms they couldn't. The grounds of the hotel outside is nice but the rooms and lobby no more than 3.5 stars. The pool closes at 6:30 pm and beach at 7 pm. The ship that takes you to Capri is old and slow with nasty discolored plastic cups.

Fabulous hotel with exceptional staff.

The Cocumella is a magical place set on a cliff above the Bay of Naples. Beautiful architecture considering it was once a 15th Century monastery. Lush gardens and fruit orchards. The staff is amazing. The chief concierge Giuseppe Di Pietro will make things happen. Overall an amazing experience.

Perfect place for couples

We went for our honeymoon, for a 2 week stay. It was an incredibly relaxing experience. I'd recommend to any couple who's looking for a quiet, sophisticated and classically luxurious experience. The hotel's set out of Sorrento, which turned out to be a good thing, when we found out how busy and chaotic Sorrento was, and the hotel provides a shuttle into the centre of town on mornings and evenings, or it's only a 15 minute walk. The facilities don't leave anything wanting ... there's even a hotel sail ship, on which we had a wonderful day-trip to Capri. The true highlight was the excellent professional, caring, friendly attitude of the staff.

Staff could not have been more cheerful or upbeat. They we very helpful and all spoke excellent English. Breakfast started off every day with fresh orange juice from their own trees. My wife doesn't care for orange juice and drank it every morning. I would not pay extra for a ocean view again. The hotel sits back from the ocean about 300 yards, so no rooms are on the water. Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing.

A Hotel with character and history

Everyone at the hotel and restaurant's were friendly and helpful. Scheduling tours from the hotel was wonderful. We highly recommend chartering the Tall Ship named Vera. The cruise was quite memorable for us. Be sure to pack your swimsuit and take your chances swimming through one of the caves.

Stayed at this hotel for two weeks, on honeymoon the staff were friendly and helpful and I can honestly say its the best customer service I have experienced in any 5 star hotel I have stayed in - The building was amazing and the gardens and pool area were relaxing - I also enjoyed sitting by the terrace and look over tat the stunning view of the bay of = Naples. I would highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing break

First I want to say the staff are extremely polite and helpful. With that said the hotel itself is probably one of the most rundown I have ever seen. I have been all over the world and I have stayed at many 5 star hotels and this one honestly other than the staff should never get a five star. It's a shame to because the location is beautiful. I'm actually pretty mad that I spent 3000.00 for 5 nights here! And the people that keep posting 5 stars... shame on you!!! I booked this hotel based on your reviews. The pictures that are clearly misleading on Expedia and other sights are not the ones you should go by. Trust me. The rooms are old with a odd mix of broken down ancient furniture, ugly old pictures, extremely uncomfortable beds and really awful decor. If you can even call it that. It's not clean by my standards. The rooms smell musty and some smell extremely bad. We looked at 5 rooms until we finally settled on one that was at least livable. We couldn't wait to leave the whole time we stayed there. Such a waste of money and ruined the end of our trip. There are cracks and patched walls that were never painted. Bathrooms have mold and disgusting shower curtains. The grounds are so overgrown and in serious need of a gardener or probably a fleet of gardeners at this point. The vegetation needs to be cut back so you can actually see the ocean. The trees are so overgrown. The pool is horrid. Cracks and holes and crumbling inside the liner. It's really disgusting. A hotel of 2 halves!

If you book a Classic room, make sure its one of the reburbished ones! We were put in an old room on the 3rd floor with mould on the walls, wall paper peeling off, framed pieces of wall paper on the wall (???!!!), make shift furniture (the bed wasnt attached to the head board) and our broken safe was replaced with a handbag sized removeable one - very convienient! Horrible, ghostly and felt dirty - the rug felt like it was made of 100 years of nun's hair!! Not the photo of the Classic room on the website. After a night sleeping with one eye open, we were moved to a refurbished room on the 2nd floor - what a difference!

2nd floor was lovely, great room, lovely hallway - this was the hotel i thought i had booked and the reviews i had read!

Overall (ignoring the horrendous start that left me crying at reception and looking to check out before we'd checked in!), staff are delightful, food is good (Japanese resturant on the sea front is lovely), pool is big and in a lovely setting but old and the bottom is cracked and broken up. The gym is a time warp from the 80's but i dont think anyone uses it. The spa looked dingy and i never saw anyone down there. Its a good location, close to town but with space and quiet - the shuttle is excellent, just call (before 10.30pm) and they come pick you up/drop you off in town.

I would recommend it, but just dont go to the 3rd floor!!!!!

DON'T DO IT! - overpriced & poor customer service

My wife and I stayed in Grand Hotel Cocumella for 3 nights for the last leg of a our 2-week honeymoon. The hotel has beautiful facilities. Although the hotel staff is nice and generally accommodating, I must say that I - overall - was not pleased with its price-value. If faced with the option of going back, I would not.

ROOMS: The room we stayed in had a particular smell. Not sure what it was - but it was pretty distinctive when walking into the room from the hallway.

WIFI / TV: The hotel's wifi is terrible. When working, it has a 2-device limit. In comparison to other 5-star hotels we have stayed in, the room's TV is well below-average (very few international channels, and terrible Italian TV).

RESTAURANT: overpriced. we were recommended to order a 82 Euro (per person) tasting menu that did not included wine. Very disappointing. The hotel had advertised that two renowned chefs (Mediterranean and Japanese) had worked for this. Needless to say we ended up paying +200 Euro for a dinner that was poor in terms of both quality and quantity. When we conveyed our disappointment to the maître, nothing. He says, \"well, sorry to hear.\" We would have expected a little detail to compensate our disappointing experience. Not about the money, but about customer service.

BOAT TRIP AROUND CAPRI: 200 Euro per person trip from Cocumella to Capri. Mediocre lunch on the boat. A couple of stops to jump in the water and swim around. Not even beers are included. Overpriced.

We had a fantastic time at this hotel with the bonus of a suite with outdoor jacuzzi. Guiseppe at concierge was excellent with his suggestions and tour booking of Pompeii. The garden was heavenly and the food outstanding and homegrown. We will return to be spoilt again!

Amazing place and the best staff ever!

We had an amazing time there, the place is so beautiful and walking distance to Sorrento. The manager Giuseppe couldn't do any more to pleased us, he and the breakfast staff are just the best.
