I placed an order with room service that took a while. When I called and spoke to the same lady again she told me there was no order for my room. When it arrived they had waived the tray charge and provided me a soft drink FOC.

I stated in one of the recently refurbished rooms. It was spacious and comfortable. However the noise from the street outside was quite bad. I would have thought that the windows would have been sound proofed.

My checkin was fast & efficient. I was offered an early checkin for a small additional cost & was given a free upgrade. The staff were friendly & welcoming.
The room had all the basic amenities but what delighted me was the fact that they not only provided shower gel & shampoo but the best hair conditioner I’ve ever had in a hotel stay. The bed & pillows were comfortable.
Convenient location to town & the shops.
Mine was a good 1 night stay. Would be happy to stay here again.

Holiday Inn stay.

We usually stay in Premier Inns but decided to stay in Stevenage's Holiday Inn this time.

Pros.
The building is kept very clean and the room we had was spacious, bed was comfortable and we had a very nice walk-in shower room.
The air conditioning was excellent. Room had plenty of storage and a safe for any valuables.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful ( especially the young lady who booked us in )
You get two key cards and you need one to activate the electricity in the room...the card holder is just inside the door.
The breakfast was extra, £10 for a full English breakfast which was very good.
There is very little parking and it costs £12 to park on site overnight but there is a multi-storey car park across the other side of the dual carriageway which is cheaper.

Cons.
The shower room had a very noisy drain. You could hear loud gurgling when the rooms beside, or above,were using their showers. Walls could have had better sound-proofing perhaps. Apart from those two niggles, we were very impressed. Will book again.

First thing on this review I'd like to highlight is the staff. The staff all went above and beyond to help us with the issues we had during our stay. All staff we helpful, polite and welcoming.
The room
This is where the issue started. After a long day travelling we unpacked and looked forwrds to a nice hot shower. The shower only ran freezing cold. We reported this to reception who sent somebidy immediately to inspect the shower to see if this could be rectified.
U unfortunately this could not be fixed and we was asked if we could change rooms. This meant repacking to move. We got into the second room and checked the hot water tap and it was running hot, so we unpacked.
My partner got in the shower and notice that the shower fittings around the bath were lose and after a few minutes this shower also ran cold. Again this was reported to reception who were super apologetic. We was moved for the 3rd time this time to an upgraded room with a hot shower. We was also provided with complementary food and drinks for our troubles and a complementary night.
The staff really did help the best they could. Check the shower temp before you unpack.
I am going on from here, to another holiday inn elsewhere in the country and got to say I'm a little apprehensive.

The lovely girl on reception on checkout apologised and said he should have rebooted it . The bed and the pillows were also really hard . Had an uncomfortable night even though we were given a fan.

I had to smell my boyfriends poop

I stayed at this hotel recently and unfortunately had an issue that significantly affected my comfort. The bathroom did not have a motorized ventilator or fan, which meant there was no proper airflow. As a result, unpleasant odors from the bathroom lingered throughout the entire room.

While the staff were courteous and the room itself was otherwise clean, the lack of proper ventilation is a basic amenity I expected, and it made the stay uncomfortable. I hope the management considers installing bathroom exhaust fans or improving air circulation in the rooms, as this would greatly improve the guest experience.

We’ve stayed at this hotel before so we knew somethings about it in advance. Clean comfortable rooms and friendly helpful staff. Special mention must go to restaurant staff member George who went out and got my wife gluten free bread for breakfast as they didn’t have any that morning. Together with a lovely lady called Sue breakfast was tasty pleasant and fun! Reception staff were very polite and professional. We would use this hotel again if the need arose.

We only stayed for two nights so we could join in family celebrations with our son's family and other family members. We didn't need parking as the family dropped us off or collected us each time. Our room was good with a view over the church/museum and the surroundings. We were only there for breakfast on the two mornings before we left , being collected by or family to drive us back home. Nevertheless our stay was pleasant , the staff very helpful and breakfast successful. Before we left on Sunday morning we found that the washbasin in the room was blocking - no huge problem as we had the shower and we were leaving anyway, but we reported it to the front desk staff who were very pleasant and supportive, offering help straight away. We explained we were leaving for home so didn't need immediate help but she was grateful so she could inform the maintenance staff immediately. A very pleasant staff . Thank you

Tired 4 star hotel needing money spent.

4 star hotel but the rooms are quite tired and need a refurbishment. The bath had mould and bath panel wood was badly swollen due to water damage and this was a premier room. The Tv is tiny especially if you’re trying to watch from your bed. The staff are all very pleasant. I ate in the restaurant and the food was very good. Parking is charged at £12 per night and spaces are very limited.

Good stay with friendly staff. We had opted in for breakfast for one of the mornings. Wasn’t that great in terms of choices and variety. Specially the coffee was poor. Rest was pretty ok.

The rooms let sound from the neighbouring rooms. Thats a bit annoying.

The hotel parking costs GBP 12 and hard to find a spot.

Shower head and toilet need replacing immediately, fixtures and fittings low quality and fitted without a spirits level. I’d let this slide for £80 a night but for £150 it’s really inexcusable.

Room key didn’t work for my door, receptionist came up with me the second time with a new key to let me in, making it look like I was doing something wrong, it wasn’t me it was the key. Of course it’s going to work with a new key that you have logged correctly. Then my room key didn’t work for the gym.

These wings don’t fly!

It was ideal , apart from when I ordered food at the bar and was given 3 tiny wings/ small plate and paid approx £11! That was not good! Very disappointed!

Due to excellent rail service into London we chose Stevenage hotels instead of central London to stay as they were far cheaper. This Holiday Inn is convenient and value for money and just a 5-10 minute walk to the railway station. Trains very frequent and can be in central London within half an hour. Would do again.

Saturday night in Stevenage

The reception when we arrived was great. The staff member greeted us as we approached the desk and our room was ready.
The key card didn’t work but a member of the housekeeping team allowed us access to our room.

Do not book

If you are a company. Or otherwise. Do not book this hotel. As booking through hotels.com the company upon checkout asked for payment again despite proof being shown of payment. Had to get the provider to call the hotel to confirm payment. Terrible customer service

From arriving to leaving the hotel staff were welcoming and helpful. The staff are definitely a credit to the hotel.
Modern and spotlessly clean.
Enjoyed our breakfast each morning during our three nights stay, lots of choice and well presented.

Bright light in Grey Town

Considering I was not looking forward to Stevenage the hotel had to be good. I wasn't disappointed. Although it's near a main road it was quite quiet and I was on a low floor. It is perfectly placed right next to the small, but interesting museum and the underpass that takes you straight into town. The staff are welcoming and warm and I was very pleased with how spacious and well decorated my room was. The restaurant open most of the day until 10 is really rather good, and a well stocked bar, neither of which I would consider pricey. It was a great stay in all and I even warmed up to Stevenage. I'm not planning a trip to Stevenage any time soon, but I would certainly stay again, if that changes.

The hotel was nice and clean. The rooms were a really good size for 2. Food and drink was a quite pricey but good quality and tasty.
My only issue really was …and wasn’t parking. There are a select number of about 15 parking spots on site that are first-come-first-serve. But across a main dual carriageway road is a multi-storey that’s really cheap. So not a dealbreaker but not as convenient. And may suck a little during winter.

The clear/frosted doors to the bathroom I did not like. The fact that the website stated no cots available as well as an enquiry with staff prior to the trip meant we brought a cot with us yet then told on checking in this is an available service.. room was small IMO

First opening its doors in 1936, the original Comet Hotel was named for the locally built de Havilland Comet DH. 88 racing aeroplane, which had been developed specifically for the 1934 England Australia MacRobertson Air Race.
