A great hotel in rome.
During our visit a lot of renovations was being performed.
It alsi looked that some renovations had been going on in our room before we came that was not cleaned up.

The rooms are disgusting! The wood floors are worn and stained.The blankets we had on two twin size beds were mismatched old worn wool and very itchy.The T.V was literally the size of a shoe box and stuck in the corner of the room. The key to the room did not work had to have the attendant let us in and they promised they would fix it but never did.The unfortunate truth is that this hotel is actually located in a very central and nice location in Rome. It is obvious that is a mom and pop operation that has been operating for may decades and the best days of this facility are definitely behind it. It would be an ideal place if it was totally renovated .For now, I would not stay here.I sincerely hope this review is not censored because most of the reviews I saw for this hotel had positive things to say about which leads me to believe they are most likely fake review.

Loved this stay! Travelled as a couple visiting Rome for the first time, this hotel is a great location - around a 5/10 minute walk to Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. Our standard double room was very roomy, had its own little sitting area and dressing table and a lovely terrace with table and chairs. Bed really comfy, air con worked perfect. We stayed on first floor room 101 and heard little to no noise from other guests throughout our stay. Hotel is small and friendly, can’t comment on breakfast as we never made it - downside for us as we thought 9.30am was a little early for breakfast to finish. Housekeeping came in each day and made a good job, only one thing I thought could improve on cleanliness - the glass shower door was quite dirty. Also hotel not very well sign posted - single glass door with the hotel name on it that’s it we walked past it a few times without even realising however it’s easy to find using google maps and in a quiet street.

Overall great hotel would 100% recommend

Good location, close to the hot spots but far enough away that you can have some space. Economy room was smaller than some others we’ve stayed at, and air conditioning was a portable unit that required a hose to go out the balcony door, so it let in any noise from traffic outside unfortunately

Great value hotel with friendly staff

Good value for money, comfortable bed, clean room, and awesome location (5-10 mins from the Trevi Fountain!), lots of shops, restaurants and bars nearby too. The staff were very helpful, recommending affordable (and authentic) places to eat/drink. We even had a little balcony! Also only about a 15 minute walk from Termini Station!

Location was good and if you’re on a budget it is a good stay. My room was big, bed was not too comfy and the blankets need to be updated. The walls are paper thin, you can hear everything in everyone else rooms. This was one of the biggest downfalls for my stay. The exhaust system has to be cleaned as well, every time I went to turn on the heat or bathroom fan it either smelt like mold or a dirty bathroom. Because of this reason I froze most of the time. Again, it is budget friendly. You just have to pick and choose what you can and can’t compromise with.

Summer stay in Rome

The hotel was in a good spot close to local metro and buses to get around the city. The room was good with a good bathroom and air conditioning which was much needed in the Rome summer heat. Includes breakfast which was served at the top of the hotel. Receptionists were really helpful and gave us some good advice on restaurants etc.

Excellent 3* hotel in good location

Stayed here for 4 nights for Rome city break 4-8 June. Excellent location close to Spanish Steps & Trevi fountain. Metro station at bottom of road (very easy to use!).Hotel staff super friendly & helpful. Continental breakfast (bread, cheese, ham, cereals, cakes & pastries + coffee & tea choices) on pretty roof terrace. Our room was basic 3* but was immaculate & had aircon, safe & mini fridge plus comfy beds Shower head in urgent need of descaling and stairway could do with a lick of paint but these are only negatives. Please note however the lift, though modern, is teeny (2'6\" x 2'6\"!) Enjoyed our stay here and would recommend this 3* hotel.

Great little hotel. Staff was friendly and even let us check in early and hold our bags at the end of our stay after check out until our flight left. This hotel is central to restaurants and sights like the Trevi fountain. It's bare bones so don't expect luxury but it has the necessities and what you need for a pleasant stay in Rome.

Generally ok, but not as nice as the pictures.

Staff was friendly, the location was convenient and the room was generally in good condition (though the walls were thin, there were some long hairs left in the bed when we arrived, and the towel warmer was not working). Also, I'm convinced they either gave us the wrong room, or the pictures/description are misleading. We paid for a Standard Double and it didn't match the nice rooms shown. I don't see how it sleeps 3 - I think we got the \"economy\" instead.

Great location for sightseeing in Rome.

Hotel was really easy to find and we had no trouble finding our way from the airport. Just 2 stops from Termini and a few minutes from Barberini metro. We felt it was a very safe area with some nice bars and restaurants, also very close to the Trevi Fountain. It was also great being so close to the metro stop which made it easy to get to the Vatican and Colosseum. The hotel itself is quaint and old fashioned. The room was a good size and the bed was comfy, and the bathroom was good. Only negatives were that the room got very cold sometimes during late afternoon and the night, and the coffee at breakfast was a bit disappointing on some days. The breakfast was pretty standard - bread, eggs, pastries, and cakes - but we enjoyed it. Shame about the tepid coffee though! Also the lift broke on our last day so we had to walk up to the 4th floor.

Upon arrival to the hotel, my wife and I were greeted by HUGO, a very nice and professional gentleman!!
HUGO exceeded our expectations! Not only he had the patience to help us book our room, he also offered options to make our stay more comfortable!

We just finished a tour and picked this hotel to spend a few days with our daughter and her husband. The hotel is small (15 rooms on 5 floors). When we arrived for check in, we were told that there was a major problem on the floor we were to be using and they could not accommodate us. We were in a panic with luggage and no where to go. The man on duty was in contact with the property management and within a 1/2 hour had secured two rooms at the Hotel Regio at no additional cost. He even gave us 20 Euro to cover the taxi fare to get there. It was near the train and bus terminal so it was convenient for us to use both forms of transport. The Regio was comfortable and clean. After all of the anxiety, we actually had an enjoyable stay.

We stayed in this hotel for two nights on our second ever visit to Rome. Very happy with the location. Perfectly centered amongst all the major tourist attractions, shopping and restaruants. Room was pretty small but clean. Bathrooms surprisingly high quality feel. Breakfast was pretty good. Fresh coffee, pastries, fruit and eggs. some more breads, cheese and meat would have been good though. staff were helpful, though one of them didn't speak English that well so you might have to come back another time of day if you want to get a lot of information. overall really good value for clean, pretty good quality room in this part of Rome.

The hotel is in a great location by the Barberini Metro stop which gave us easy access to all attractions quickly. The staff was great and very kind. There were ants on the floor in my room both days, but it wasn't a huge deal. The rest of the room was very clean.

Location is perfect and breakfast could be eaten on the patio. The hotel room was small, but clean. Services are not very good. When we arrived the receptionist was chatting with a friend outside and we had to wait until he was done in order to check in. Also we needed to remind them several times to call a taxi. Overall it was a pleasant stay.

Convenient clean basic hotel near Piazza Barberini

Pleasant stay for 2 nights in great location - just steps to subway, bus lines and walking distance to notable sights including Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Via Veneto and Borghese gardens. Restaurants, shopping and food take-away amenities close by.
Hotel staff was helpful - let us store luggage since we arrived before our room was ready. We had requested and received a room on a higher floor facing the back garden - very quiet. Terrace and continental breakfast on 6th floor. Note the very small elevator only goes to the 5th floor. Need to walk up a flight to terrace. Our room was clean and spacious (for 3 people). The extra bed looked like a rollaway which was fine for our 7 year old daughter, but may not be suitable for full-sized adult. Air conditioning is included in the rate and worked well. Bathroom was spacious and clean. Free WiFi worked in the room. We would stay here again.

Decent budget hotel

This is a budget hotel so don't expect luxury! However our room was clean and comfortable (if a little dated). We had a little balcony which was a nice surprise too. The only downside was that the shower holder was broken so the shower was far too low down.
The location of this hotel is also great, right by a metro station and 10 minutes walk to the Spanish Steps. The staff were polite enough but it definitely helps to try speaking a little italian to them.

Fantastic Little Gem

My partner and I had a wonderful vacation in Rome and our hotel provided a great home base from which to explore the city. As first time travelers to Rome we were hoping to find a centrally located hotel, Hotel Cinquantatre definitely fit the bill. The metro is a short walk down the block, and for those who prefer taxis the front desk staff will reserve one for you. Speaking of the front desk staff, they were professional, personable, and engaging. They had wonderful suggestions for restaurants and suggestions on how to use your time efficiently (i.e., best time to see attractions). The accommodations were comfortable, rooms were made up each day, and fresh towels were provided daily. Each morning we were greeted with smiles and a cheerful \"Due cappuccino?\" in the breakfast room, which we gladly accepted. The continental breakfast included yummy donuts, croissants, and a fresh torte.
Another note on the location, one can easily walk to the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, and the Villa Borghese gardens. Prior to our arrival I contacted the Hotel requesting a specific room which features a huge balcony and asked for suggestions regarding transportation, they responded to both requests in a timely manner.
Hotel Cinquantatre met our every expectation. As we plan our next trip to Rome, we definitely will stay with this fantastic hotel again!

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel are a little louder as they face a cobbled road.

Great Stay at this Charming Hotel...

We stayed here for the duration of our 9 day visit to the eternal city. The hotel itself added enjoyment to our whole Italy experience. We walked to this hotel from the train station when we came in. It was half a block from the Barberini train station as well. It was centrally located and we walked to all the major attractions from here.
The hotel staff was incredible from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. The front desk made reservations for us for the Galleria Borghese and breakfast was great every morning we thought the Italian breakfast of croissants and cappuccinos and juices was more than enough to get us going for the day.
We appreciated the small fridge in the room as we stored cokes and paninis from the store.

Room was large by European standards and very clean. Ours was on the first floor and had a balcony and a small sitting area which we loved. It was nice to have some wine in the balcony. A/C worked awesome and were there when it was hot outside. Hotel was clean albeit small, the elevator is very very small but it was enough that we could put our baggage and wait for it upstairs.

We are definitely planning to stay here again on our visit to Rome.

Small but pleasant

Travelling alone, I wasn't expecting much for the low rate, and didn't really need much as I would be spending all day touring the city. Although it is a very small facility, only 15 rooms, and all the doorways are very small, the room actually was more pleasant than expected.

My only \"complaints\" would be the wood floor in the room needed better sweeping, the shower door should be on the other side as it was an awkward squeeze between the sink to get in the shower, and finally be prepared for the loud city buses that pass by several times a day.

Great location and staff

We loved this hotel. The location was great, close to everything, but most important the staff was exceptional. They all make you feel like family. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. It is clean, comfortable, has rooms to accomodate a 3rd person, free wi-fi, private bathroom, complimentary breakfast, affordable, and allows you to store your luggage if you arrive before the room is ready. We will definately be staying there again on our next trip. We highly recommend this hotel.

This is a great little place for value. Location is right in the middle of all tourist destinations and underground train station almost at your door and main terminal not too far away. Hotel was only small and a bit dated in our room but was fine for what we needed. Travellers note, when looking for this hotel keep a good eye out for it as we did not see any large signs for it and kept going past it, it is only a signed glass single door entry. Nothing bad to say really.

We arrived early after a scary transfer from the airport but our room was ready. The reception staff we're really helpful and printed out vouchers for us which we hasn't had time to do. Basic accommodation in a good central location

On check in I was told the lift was broken which meant having to walk up 6 floors to get to the breakfast room on the top floor. Room itself was small and basic. The bed was comfortable but the shower cubicle in the bathroom was so small I could hardly get in to it. If budget is an issue this hotel is fine, otherwise I would suggest spending a bit extra and stay elsewhere.

In bad need of a makeover

We arrived at twenty to two, twenty minutes before advertised check in and room wasn't ready, no problem, we'll wait twenty minutes. We had a 4am start so we badly wanted a nap. The room wasn't ready for 55 minutes. The staff were pleasant enough and the location was good but the hotel is very shabby. Although the bed linen was clean and fresh looking, the bed wasn't comfortable, the walls in the room were very dirty. The shower was very old and filthy dirty. The breakfast was the worst offering we ever had. Stay somewhere in this location but not here.

It is good enough for what you pay, not so great but good, comfort & clean enough for a decent stay, best thing in this Hotel is its place where it is 10 minutes away from touristic places.

Te staff in the hotel was very helpful and they provide maps and guidance, which was extremely useful. The location is key half a block from the Barnerini Metro, which made incredibly easy to move to different places like the Vatican City and the Coloseum. Also, very close walking distance from most major tourist sites. The breakfast is Italian so coffee, cornetto, fruits, but the service was wonderful and they remembered that we liked Lattes after the first day. They did make the beds and provided toiletries. Althought the elevator is very small, it was actually an experience to ride and felt very safe. You can beat the location for this hotel within this price range.

Cute hotel. Some rooms are much better than others

The hotel is located above the metro line. Our room for the first night was on the 1st floor, I can hear the train grinding the rail. Unable to sleep until trains stop running. Moved to the 4th floor the next day, problem solved. The hotel manager and staff were very helpful. The manager recommened a very good neighborhood restaurant. We ate there 4 times out of our 6-day stay. The waiters were friendly and playful in a dry humor way.

All about the location

My friend and I found the hotel perfectly located. Just down the street from the metro stop Piazza Barberini which can lead you all over the city. It is also close to the trevi fountain and in the center of the city so you can walk to most locations such as the Vatican or the Coliseum if you feel up to it. Asides from that the staff is very friendly and the rooms are comfortable. Its small but that is to be expected when you are staying in a city. I would recommend the hotel to my friends just because the value is worth it.

Experienced problems!

Overall the hotel was fine apart from the 2 below issues that I experienced:

- I'd arranged a special gift for my partner (a rose chocolate and a balloon), I paid extra for this only to find that they hadn't provided everything that I'd paid for! I told the bloke on the reception and he was extremely reluctant to deal with me and told me hat he would have to speak to the owner and this would take a long time. I have also emailed the lady that I originally dealt with but surprise surprise, haven't heard nothing back. So don't pay in advance for anything because they will keep the money and not give you the goods.

- We paid for the stay the day before we were leaving because we wanted to leave straight away the next day so that we wouldn't miss our transport to the airport. We then came to leave and the person on reception swore blind that we hadn't paid, this then caused us to miss our transport to the airport. THANKS A LOT!

Good value central Rome hotel

This is a small hotel but perfectly adequate for a pleasant stay in Rome. The hotel is situated close to all the main tourist attractions and provides everything you need for a good trip at a small price. The room had a safe to keep valuables safe and provided shampoo sachets.

Fantastic location, friendly staff

The location is excellent as only a few minutes walk from the metro and close to the Trevi Fountain and other sights. Great value for money as i searched for other hotels in this area and they were very expensive. The staff were very friendly and they had the best croissants for breakfast. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Overall I would definitely recommend hotel 53 and would stay there again if I were to visit Rome in the future.

Perfect as a base for sightseeing

The best thing about the hotel was a great location. Easy walking to Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. A 20 minute walk to The Forum and Colosseum but an easy route to follow. Right next to a metro station which was only 2 stops from the Termini for public transport. Hotel staff were very friendly and one in particular really helpful.
The room we had was quite small and a bit gloomy. Toiletries etc were very basic. Breakfast was only pastries or bread or cornflakes so a bit limited, though the coffee was very good! We just had it as a base for sightseeing and the price was reasonable so it suited us.

Overall this is a good hotel, with an excellent location. The breakfast was terrible and not much to choose from at all. The hairdryer was also very primitive and not like a normal hairdryer. Otherwise the service and location was excellent.

great for a short break in rome

The hotel is in a lovely location, very close to all major attractions, except the vatican, although there is a metro station one minute away that will take you straight there. despite the fact that the hotel is in quite a busy area of rome, the actual street it is on is quite quiet and when you close the windows it is silent.
I was surprised at how spacious the rooms were because this is rare to find in a major european city. the room was very comfortable, although there were no english channels on the tv so take your laptop if you think you will want to watch tv.
The staff were very nice and helpful and the breakfast was minimal, but acceptable. there is a roof terrace where you can eat your breakfast and this is beautiful, probably my favourite part of the hotel.
the only issue i had was that it seemed that the room wasnt being cleaned while we were out, just the beds made and bins emptied, etc. this was not a major problem though, as we were only staying for 3 days.
overall, i would stay there again.

Moderate hotel in Via Veneto area

The hotel was as expected - nice location, small, almost like a bed and breakfast. We were hardly in the room, so only needed a clean place to sleep and shower. The bathroom was nice - seemed to be remodeled. All in all, what you might expect from a lower priced option in the Via Veneto.

Good choice for Rome

Small, quaint but modernized bathroom and good shower. Room did not have balcony as advertised but was large enough and pleasant.

Near BarberinI Square and many restaurants. Easy to catch Hop on Hop bus. Walkable to many sights.

Terrific location!

This small, yet very nice 3 star hotel is in a great location - within walking distance of wonderful sites, transportation, restaurants, shopping, etc. On a small and quiet street. I would recommend it to anyone. The staff was friendly and helpful, the breakfast fine, and the room small, as you would expect, but very comfortable and more than adequate. If I had to find something negative to say, it would be that they could update their hair dryers.

Cinquantatre Hotel one to visit again

The front desk (daytime) male receptionist was exceptionally good and very helpful, cordial and welcoming.
The complimentary continental breakfast in the roof deck was very good and the \"wait\" staff (lady) even better.
The ONLY complaint we had during our stay was the airconditioning which was preset at 18 degC. It was uncoimfortably warm for us without being able to adjust the temperature. Our room faced the main road so it became a choice of noise or heat.

Nice place

My husband and I enjoyed the hotel overall. The bathroom was good sized. The staff was always pleasant and helpful with any questions. Wifi worked well which was nice. Breakfast was a bit lacking in comparison to other hotels we had stayed at across Italy.

Needs Major Upgrades

Although the staff was excellent and the location was great (convenient and in walking distance to some major sites), the place was old and small. The one elevator that services the 5 floors is really small and can barely fit a single person with a luggage.

The rooms with a single double bed were tight with little walking space. The rooms with two twin beds were much larger and more suitable for two adults.

The old decor, tight spaces, and so-so condition of the building are what you can expect in an old city like Rome for a budget price. However, the one thing that I really could not stand and should definitely be improved is the musty, moldy, and sewage like smell that was wreaking from the bathroom and that's why I gave this hotel 1 star.

A great place to stay in rome!

A cute little hotel slightly away from the most popular tourist attractions, but I still walked almost everywhere, and took the metro just twice. Metro is a 3 minute walk from the hotel which was very convenient. Staff was very nice and helpful (only a few spoke english). Breakfast was included which although not a big variety it was a good, typical Italian breakfast (pastry, coffee, cereal, yogurt) on a cute rooftop balcony. Overall I would highly recommend this place for a good price!

Excellent B&B Style (which MOST small hotels in Rome are)

I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Cinquantatre (pronounced cheen'kwon'tot'tray - which I only butchered the first day). The staff are wonderfully friendly, especially the Reservations Manager, Nima Payamyar... he was fantastically helpful in finding local food, shopping and spoke excellent English. Each level has 3 rooms except for level 5 which has 2 rooms. The quaint terrace in on level 6 and I highly recommend taking your breakfast there every morning! The roman breakfast is a cappuccino (or espresso), a glass of OJ, and a chocolate croissant, although they do have cereal, milk, and other pastries available, as well as sliced pineapple. The wifi never works, except on some days between 4pm and 6pm. They have a computer downstairs that you can use to check email if you don't have a global smart-phone (points to self). Also, I have never seen a hair dryer like the ones this hotel has. I'm sure they are normal in Europe to some extent, but it was a strange gadget that took some finessing. Having stayed in Ireland, I knew better than to plug mine in without converter. Also, if you go during August, be prepared to sweat and be very grateful for the AC, which is set at 18C (64) as the rest of the AC in Rome seem to be, which brings the temp to about 75 or 80 in most places. They will turn the AC off while you are out, so it may take a few minutes to get the room cooled off when you get back, but I understand the reasoning and didn't mind. You end up showering immediately anyway. Have fun, and remember that while this isn't a 5-star, you don't spend much time in your hotel, so this more than does the trick for a mere 90euro/night!

A gem in central Rome

Location, location, location! This little hotel is in the best part of Rome you could get. You can walk to all the major sights from here. We were surprized to have found this gem! The staff were all extremely helpful and the breakfasts were good. The room and bathroom size were excellent, bigger that the normal box one gets in the centre of a large city! The hotel itself is old, but is kept in excellent condition.
There was only one problem in that my husband went for an early morning walk and couldn't get out of the main front door, it took time to arouse the night clerk to be let out.
Don't let this put you off, in future we would warn the clerk that we would like to get out of the main door at 6am!
This was our third visit to Rome and by far the best accomodation we have ever had. We would recommend it anytime!

Cinquantatre Hotel, Rome

Reasonably centrally situated, about 3/4 minutes walk from an Underground station. It is a rather narrow building that goes up rather than sideways, there are six floors, with a lift, and the dining room is on the top floor ( as in the picture ). Room was rather small and the furniture is rather basic, but the ensuite has recently been re-vamped and is rather good. I found that the staff were on the whole helpful and courteous.

One problem I experienced was that the street is fronted by tall buildings either side and this tended to amplify the effects of traffic noise which on occasions I found intrusive. Guests having rooms which did not front on to the street seemed to be free of this noise problem. On the whole the hotel is fairly basic but I didn't go for the hotel , but the sightseeing.

Hotel is very conveniently locaterd next to Barberbini metro station which is only two stops from Termini station. Most attractions are very close and and within a 30mins walk.
Hotel itself provided good service and breakfast buffet on 6th floor on sunny day is excellent start. Overall very good.

Good Location, Convenient price

The location was great. Only 50 meters from the metro station. The room was quite clean. The bathroom was big and had a bathtub. The bed was comfortable. For the special offer price it was great. close to Trevi and spanish steps, and metro station. nice restaurants on Via Veneto, 2 mins away.
