We had a great experience at the Sunset Plaza Beach Resort and Spa. We can't wait to go back. The staff were top notch and the food was amazing!! You will not go hungry or thirsty at this resort. The drinks were yummy. The room was very comfortable and clean. Our view was spectacular, beautiful sunsets.
We saw whales and dolphins on a few occasions right from our chairs at the pool. The beachfront is awesome and you can walk the beach for miles.
I would highly recommend this resort to anyone.

Room was neglected ( they did not wash the coffee machine for 8 days, never mapped the room floor for 8 days, couple of days of our stay they didn't even provide toilet tissue or towel or shampoo) . elevators very old and don't work most of the time.
Pillows very uncomfortable.
Very old equipment (coffee machine, bathroom towels dispenser, pizza place doors).
We didn't enjoy sitting around the pool because every day all the seats are reserved with towels on them 7 o'clock morning (I don't know how?)
No open buffet, food was OK, not a big deal.

Not enough lounge chairs for everyone so we decided to pay for a daybed. Later found out they double booked it so we had no where to sit and they are giving us a hard time about refunding the charge. Day 3 came back to our room (in the new renovated tower) found our bathroom sink on the floor. Next day the door numbers fell off.. wouldn’t comeback

Very clean and beautiful room, we were in the new tower, so everything was brand new and updated. Food in the restaurants were very good. The staff is very attentive and very friendly. Only 16 floors and a small layout for a resort so easy to get around. Beautiful views from every room. Would definitely recommend!

I just got back from an incredible stay at the Sunset Plaza Beach Resort in Puerto Vallarta, and I have to say—it’s one of the best resorts I’ve ever experienced! If you’re looking for a luxurious, oceanfront escape with amazing food, friendly staff, and stunning views, this place delivers in spades.
The dining was an absolute highlight. Everything is restaurant-style (no buffet chaos here), and every single meal blew me away. From fresh seafood to perfectly prepared dishes, the quality was top-tier—gourmet-level without feeling pretentious. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all consistently delicious, and the variety kept things exciting throughout the stay.
The staff were genuinely top-notch—super friendly, helpful, and always ready to make your day better. There were a couple of minor mix-ups, but they were clearly due to language barriers, and it was no big deal at all. Everyone went out of their way to ensure we felt taken care of.
Just got back from an incredible stay at Sunset Plaza Beach Resort, and I have to say—this place absolutely blew me away! From check-in to check-out, it was a near-perfect tropical escape that left me relaxed, happy, and already planning our return.
The food was hands-down one of the highlights. Every meal was full restaurant-style dining with beautiful presentation and flavors that were consistently amazing. Breakfast offered fresh, abundant options; lunches were creative and satisfying; and dinners felt like fine-dining!!

The view was nice, the food was quite good, the staff was courteous and helpful. However, we had a lot of noise above us, the hotel next door played very loud music and there is construction going on at the Sunset Plaza that is quite loud. Elevator operation was problematic some days.

Great location in the Zona Hotelera.
Greeted with a glass of sparkling wine and a seat on a comfy sofa while we waited to check-in. Check-in was smooth and key details were explained quickly. Butler then assisted us to our suite politely explaining security features in the elevator and then walked us through the suite and its ammenities.
And what a suite! And what a view!
Our suite was spacious and clean - and kept clean daily.
Resort staff were enthusiastic, encouraging, friendly, and clearly enjoying themselves.
All four restaurants and both bars served delicious food an drink with professionalism and pride - staff were always eager to make suggestions and accept requests for alterations.
We enjoyed a lovely week and will definitely return!

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was much better than other all-inclusives that we have visited. The resort never felt crowded, although they were apparently nearly full during our stay.
Accessibility was important to me. Amenities were fairly accessible, although some of the ramps were very steep. Curb cutouts were sketchy or nonexistent on the entrance driveway/walkway and in the surrounding area. Expect to wheel on the road or bike lane regularly. No pool lift or wheelchair ramp in the pool

Stayed at the Sunset Plaza for 8 days with my wife this January. It was our first time there and it did not disappoint! Awas a great place to stay! The room was spacious and clean, and the ocean view was amazing. There are 3 restaurants on resort, all of them providing a wide range of selections. No greasy, questionable buffets here, all made to order meals with menus that change every night. It was nice to have good meals and not walk away stuffed to the point of being uncomfortable. Most of the food can be ordered poolside too.

There is direct access to the beach in front of the hotel and three pools on site. Lots of deck chairs around too, never had trouble getting a spot even later in the day. We were able to watch the whales jumping around offshore every day we were there.

The staff was great to deal with no matter what capacity they were in, especially the restaurant staff. Everyone was friendly and helpful.

Theres also some great little restaurants nearby and shopping as well if you want to walk around the area and explore a bit. Or you can cab it to the big mall or market 15 mins away.

Overall, Sunset Plaza is a professionally run place that takes your satisfaction seriously. I would highly recommend staying here and we will definitely be back again!

This hotel is in the middle of an expansion and renovation so there is active construction going on daily which is not disclosed anywhere. It will likely be another 3-5 years if I had to guess based on what they’re trying to accomplish. There are only 2 sit down restaurants for dinner but they do change their menus every night so they don’t feel monotonous and aside from a few not so great meals was-overall ok. The location is convenient equal distance from airport to “centro” and also very close to the port where a lot of excursions leave from. The staff was great, the renovated rooms are nicely done (could use more/ better bedding) but the views of ocean, sunset and whales.. (yes whales!) is amazing. It’s relatively quiet and you can hear the waves crashing below morning and night. There’s a lot of pros to this hotel but also cons that you wouldn’t pick up on by just looking at their website such as the construction. Also the coffee offered onsite is pretty bad, especially if you’re a coffee drinker. Drinks are very weak. Overall, everything was OK. Good value compared to other all inclusives but it’s not their you don’t have super high standards… most of the hotel and amenities are outdated, pool tiles are dirty/ missing etc.

Stay in the suite it was nice having 2 restroom and a normal size fridge. The curtain are stained here and there but the staff and food are delicious. Make sure to stop by allegro the pizza it's a hidden diamond. I've had pizza in NY, Chicago, Detroit and Italy it's flat bread style and it's some of the best I've had. Make sure Alex does it for you. He is the main chef

We had a terrifying experience. During the middle of the night the person in the adjoining room was trying to pick the lock to enter our room. All but 4 of the suites at this hotel have connecting doors to the adjoining suites. My wife was sleeping next to the door without her hearing aid. I was sleeping in the second bed. Thank god I had turned off the air conditioning because it was noisy or I probably wouldn't have been woken up by the person picking the lock. I banged on the door and yelled at him stop. Total silence after that. I called the front desk and told the person someone from the adjoining room was trying to pick the lock open to our suite. He said he would call security. I asked him to have them come talk to me. We didn't here any noises coming from the adjoining suite. About 30 minutes later I went down to the front desk and spoke with the attendant. He said he tried calling the guest but he didn't pick up and it's too late at night to do anything. I asked if he could call the police. He said he was probably just drunk and we'll have our security deal with it. I said this was someone who was trying to pick the lock. Who does that? What was he going to do to us if he got through the door? He kept saying it was late and we'll talk to him in the morning. I asked for another suite. He said one of the 4 private rooms would be free later today. Of course we didn't sleep all night. I spoke to the manager who told me the same thing. They didn't do anything to help us.

Our room was cleaned and amenities stocked everyday. It was the first place that has given us facecloths!! Our fridge was stocked as well.

There is one restaurant that you need to make a reservation for however there was no issue getting into it. Its menu changed everyday and it was delicious. There is the main restaurant area that you could just sit at (no reservation) and it was by menu as well. Just note that despite having the all inclusive band on, you still have to sign your bill. All the food was delicious and big portions. They do a huge Mexican Buffet on Fridays. You can also order lunch food from a special menu and it is served to you at your lounge chair. There is a place that makes delicious pizzas and calzones. That’s also where you can get ice cream. A coffee shop is onsite and they’ll make fresh smoothies, crepes, waffles, fresh fruit, pastries, churros and paninis.

People did save loungers, however there were always empty ones and it didn’t seem to be an issue. The bar service was great around the pool and on the beach. Great variety of drinks alcoholic and non alcoholic.

There isn’t a lot of entertainment which we were fine with. No loud music. Just a great place to relax. There is a kids club that has activities all day. The lounge does have a band most nights that was good.

It was a fantastic stay!

Front desk staff didn't seem to want to help us. The room was very cold and we asked for extra blankets at the front desk. They never came. We called from our room later that day and they finally came with a blanket.

Also, we had requested for a corner suite on the top floor. But we were given a corner suite on the 8th floor of 14 story building, even though the higher ones were empty (dark at night).

This was our 4 time staying at the Sunset Plaza, and our last. It was terrible from the moment we arrived until we left. It was at one time a beautiful place to stay. The food was like prison food, I got food poisoning one night and spent 4 days ill. The food was institutional and I couldn’t bare to go down for a meal, so we ended up eating off site a lot, even though we paid huge money for staying 6 days. Everyone we talked to didn’t like the food and most went off site to eat. The restaurant staff was good, but the desk staff and butlers were very dismissive, one day after a couple of hours at the beach I went back up to our room and the door was wide open with no one inside. I went down to the butlers and they said oh no, we will check the cameras and find out who had been in there, I said that one was one thing the other was I was afraid to go in, thought someone might be in there, so a butler came up and check, no one was in there there. I asked twice if they had found out who had been in the room and they kept telling me they hadn’t gone thru the camera video yet, I’m thinking to myself there probably is no video….WORST HOTEL EVER NOW!!!!! Avoid this place!!!!!

The sunset plaza was a smallish well maintained hotel on a perfect little stretch of beach. The weather here was perfect. The food was good, produced it felt to order instead of mass produced like some options have felt at bigger resorts.
Servers at restaurants and all the pool/beach servers were nice and helpful. Miguel, the “butler” was also kind and we were grateful for good food and good beach time. BUT the front desk customer service was the worst I have seen. In particular Carlos Sanchez and Alejandra behaved as though we were bothering them. We booked and paid for 2 suites. Requested them together or at least on the same floor. Understand it’s not a guarantee but we saw the room next to us check out and expressed to front desk that we were willing to downgrade to the smaller room they had in order to be on the same floor.
Carlos had so much attitude & acted upset when we inquired about the room. We had no hot water for 2 days & each time we followed up, Alejandra shooed us away & never once was friendly or offered any pleasantries.
We had theft in our room & immediately told supervisors/filed an incident report. We asked for the manager Efrain to try to help the hotel prevent future instances & never received any follow up or heard from him.
Last night of our stay we were woken up with a phone call & banging on the door only to be told “never mind” when we asked for more info.
Didn’t feel safe or welcome and the hotel lacks customer service.

After multiple stays in Puerto Vallarta’s all‑inclusive resorts, this was by far the most disappointing. The food offered at Sunset Plaza Beach Resort & Spa was limited, repetitive, and of such poor quality that I fell ill and my infant got sick. Instead of a gourmet spread we had bland meals that left us dreading mealtime, and on our last day they had the nerve to charge us for that low‑quality food. The “luxury” label is laughable; our junior suite on an upper floor had a lovely view but the room’s amenities were limited to an ancient coffee maker. Half of the property was under construction, adding noise and obstructed access. Worse, the staff showed no empathy when our baby became sick; instead, many seemed more focused on extracting tips or upselling. Only the bellboys, including Mario, were genuinely helpful. Between the poor food, lack of compassion, dreary amenities and ongoing construction, this place feels like a three‑star hotel at best, not the four‑star property they advertise. I urge anyone considering this resort to look elsewhere; there are plenty of real all‑inclusive options in Puerto Vallarta that deliver on quality and service. To the hotel, I don't need your reply and thanking for the feedback. You had the opportunity to provide a decent service and you failed.

Inclusive at this resort are different and amazing its not your typical Buffet style its more like Restaurant style where you have server of course with your choice of food and drinks we really liked it a lot and will be back again , beach is so close to the hotel and pools all and all perfect stay and if I can give 10 stars i would 5 is not enough the deserve better than 5 stars in my opinion

Our second visit to this resort and it didn’t disappoint! The staff are really friendly and had a fantastic time with Raul doing aquarobics and making crafts. The pool waiters go above and beyond! The only downside is the ongoing construction and was pretty intrusive at times with hammer banging and grinding though they take a break at lunchtime !!

The rooms were clean & comfortable. The staff were absolutely incredible! We have travelled to many places over the world and there is not one place that can out do the customer service found at the Sunset. From the butler service, poolside service, dining experiences, it was top notch!

Beach views were beautiful. You could see them from the pools and balcony.

Our room had a plunge pool on the balcony which was nice. Using the plunge pool at night to watch the city lights was lovely. it just fits two adults cozy.

The balcony did not get sun throughout the day at all. That could be the time of year being December.

This resort does not have your usual all inclusive buffets but you don’t need it. The food menus have lots to choose from and all very tasty! You can also order more than one thing.

The resort also had things to do in the day and evenings. From aqua aerobics, black jack, tequila tastings, Mexican bingo to live music…

Our only complaint was the hotel is still under construction so there are a few glitches. The elevators were slow, they stopped randomly but that’s minor. Our room and some others in the newly constructed section did not have hot water, only warm water. Which is normally fine as it’s a hot country but when wanting to relax sore muscles hot is needed. The hotel is aware of this and working on things. It also did not take away from our overall experience. Again, the staff were incredible, the food fantastic!!!

Great staff, nice room in the new building.
Original building could use some paint etc. beef and pork was tough in Italian restaurant. They could slow cook meat all day to make it more tender, otherwise a wonderful experience!

Elevators had a mind of their own. Wait staff consistently forgot drinks, food, etc. food at the Italian restaurant wasn’t cooked. Had to send two dishes back. Loud construction during the week. Hot tubs were luke warm.

Employees are the best I have seen in any resort and I have been in many. Customer service desk and bell boys know everyone by name snd are very helpful. Waiters around the pool are outstanding. They were always available to order and were bringing our order very quick. The waitress and bar tenders at the lobby bar are supper attentive. Rooms are nice and clean with great ocean view. Food is very good and changing every day. I can not say enough good things about this hotel. The only reason I give 4 stars is because of security team. During our 6 days there all valuables of the people seatng around the pools closer to the beach were stolen twice (3 days apart). Second time my daughter’s new phone was stolen. I can not say it for sure, but it looks like the robbers work hand in hand with the security team hired by the hotel. There are no cameras to cover the line between the beach and hotel property, no security people watching for strangers and also no interest by the security management to even talk to the people robbed.
It is a small area and very easy to secure it.
If you go there, keep anything of value with you at all times

The best service, the only thing is I didn’t not like how they are very insistent on sealing time shares . It wasted a lot of time from our getaway to RELAX. Otherwise the place is amazing grate service.

If you are looking for a true All inclusive then this is not the place. Totally avoid it.
They got three restaurants Only.. with two Italian and one having fixed menu.
Their 24/7 is an eyewash, and is not truly 24hrs. Their coffee is always from a vending machine and is total crap. Poorly stocked. We never got coffee worth drinkable for our entire stay of 6 days.
No buffet, it’s always al la carte.
Staff is not polite, looks overworked and expect tips else poor service. They would know your ability to tip and based of that depends your service for rest of the days.
Hardly 10 shacks on the beach.. no service on the beach, no shade services.
No bar menu, drinks lack alcohol (am not an avid drinker and still felt that drinks never had enough juice)
They give you champagne bottle in room but no glasses to drink in.
At checkout, we were told that this is a quiet property and no fanfare or celebrations of any types and they made sure they stand by it.
We have stayed at other properties in cabos , cancun and big contrast for all inclusive .

Long story short, not worth the money, pay a little more and atleast get good treatment and feel satisfied… but not here.
