We absolutely loved our stay at the Kumamoto Hotel Castle. The location was very convenient to all the local buses, lots of shopping and dining options, and many activities. Our room was very nice. We reserved the deluxe room, city view. It was extremely spacious, modern, and very comfortable. We highly recommend this hotel and will stay again next time we visit.

Well located and comfortable hotel in Kumamoto

We stayed for 2 nights in Kumamoto. The hotel is located conveniently within a short distance to the castle and near to shops and eateries.

Parking is available on site and you have to leave your car keys with the hotel and exchange with a parking slip whenever you need to retrieve the car.

It seems more of a businesss hotel and there was also a wedding reception on one of the days we were there.

We had a great experience in Kumamoto and honestly there was nothing we could fault with the hotel.

Very classy hotel and convenient to walk around downtown Kumamoto. Staffs are very polite, yet friendly and comfortable to stay there. Breakfast was creative to offer local specialty to try. Love the music (smooth jazz) that you can have in the guest room and dining area. Highly recommend to experience class hotel with long history where the emperors stayed in the past.

This hotel is “The classy” hotel. Built a while ago, so it has old charm everywhere. Love the option that you can play music BGM that you can enjoy in your room. Everything is old but neatly well kept and very comfortable. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was amazing with serving local food with great variety.

I booked this hotel because a friend of mine recommended it based on its proximity to Kumamoto Castle. Boy was I surprised by how awesome this place was. Nice decor, large rooms (not Japanese roooms, regular sized rooms) with plenty of space and a comfortable bathroom. The property didn’t feel dated at all and the staff were all terrific. When we drove up one employee received us with a bow and quickly helped us with our luggage, quite the reception to be honest. The front desk staff all spoke English which was a pleasant surprise compared to the other hotels we stayed at on this 2 week trip. Highly recommend and I’m sad I didn’t spring for the breakfast, I think that’s a missed opportunity on my part.

As a couple, we stayed at the Kumamoto Hotel Castle for two days and took 12 self-driving trips around the most southern parts of Japan. Our experience with the hotel began with parking the vehicle. We were quickly assisted with our luggage at the front of the hotel and then ushered to the car park. The nature of the services was warm, efficient, and friendly. This trend continued throughout the stay. Our primary interaction was with the front counter staff - checking in, returning the keys and seeking information. On all occasions, they were excellent.
The room was comfortable, clean, and tidy. As it was a two-day stay, we did not require cleaners, and while they were concerned, we were equally insistent.
While the service was excellent at the breakfast, we would prefer not to have a choice between Japanese or Western cuisine. We found both underwhelming.
Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel.

This is a 4-star hotel, which caught me completely off-guard given how affordable the room was. I was more or less a fish out of water in that environment. Not particularly used to people always wanting to attend to me! Anyways, the overall hotel is extremely nice, though the rooms are a bit basic in comparison. Location is effectively perfect; Kumamoto Castle is across the street and the shopping arcade is a block behind you. Trams run in front. Multiple in-house dining options as well, though I did not use them. Parking is limited; on the first night I had to use a different lot that has a contract with the hotel, but the valet moved my car to the property the next morning on my behalf.

The breakfast was also a great experience (Western and Japanese available). There are many nearby restaurants. We were cycling and left our bikes in the indoor parking garage. Terrific hotel.

I stayed here twice now, and it is a hotel with 20th century charm and pedigree. You get a wonderful view of the Kumamoto Castle, which is under restoration. Rooms are well appointed. Staff is top notch. I usually don't call out names, but if you search around, C.R. has been praised for his really good English, and I think he helps westerners feel comfortable coming to the place.

I go visit the castle from another part of Japan where I live. I look forward to staying at this hotel when I do.

Would have had a great view of castle, however castle has been badly damaged in 2016 earthquake and is not open to the public. Missed out on night view of castle from our room, as a result. Room view of castle covered in scaffolding and large crane. Can walk around the castle and get a feel for what it would be like, Nearby museums and heritage house also closed for renovations, so a bit disappointing.

The sign above the door says it all. This hotel prides itself on service to those that stay here, and apparently has done so since 1960. And some of the guests have been pretty prominent, such as the Showa Emperor and the current Crown Prince (who stayed twice!) ---as can be seen from photos in the lobby.

I also like hotels with that mid-20th century hotel charm. I can remember back to the decade this hotel was established, and so there is a familiarity. Plus, in Japan, you know, companies and teams that have a long pedigree are respected.

Japanese royalty have stayed here, and you too, will be made to feel like someone special. The accommodations are well maintained, and there are several modern amenities in the room. I first came to Kumamoto in 2015, to see the castle. (This turned out to be four months before the awful earthquake.) So I got a room to see the castle under reconstruction. I wanted to visit the site again, as I have before, but conveniently, and with a view. This is the hotel for that, since its founding matched the last time serious work had to be put into castle restoration. So I made an internet reservation.

When I checked in, I was helped by several folks in the lobby, including a Japanese with what I feel is fluent English. I arrived in Kumamoto early, and the hotel kept my luggage until check-in time, which allowed me to go across the street and across the castle moat/river. The room is very nice.

Kumamoto Castle Hotel is an upscale hotel across from the Kumamoto Castle. The hotel staff provided great service and hospitality. Our western style hotel room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The breakfast provided is a set menu of either Japanese or Western style breakfast. The breakfast was delicious but portions are a bit small for individuals with a large appetites. There are many great restaurants and shops in close proximity to the hotel. The trolley system provides ecomonical and convenient transportation between the hotel and Kumamoto train station for 170 yen per person, one-way. Trolley stops are a close walk from the hotel. Very helpful English-speaking concierge

Very convenient location within walking distance of the castle and other attractions as well as the shopping square. The concierge, who understands and speaks English very well, was especially helpful in helping us finalise our onward travel arrangements with hotel and transport reservations. I would stay in this hotel again if I return to visit Kumamoto.

Kumamoto's Old Style Hotel

The hotel is reminiscent of the days gone by but with a modern day touch. It is a short tram ride from Kumamoto train station and overlooks Kumamoto Castle. The staff are excellent, the service is exemplary and the facilities are good. The only gripe was that there are no coffee making facilities in the rooms (need to pay for expensive room service coffee). There are tea making facilities but not everyone is a tea drinker!
