Everything was great! This is my very favorite hotel. The room is clean and cozy with wonderful little touches like restocked drinks in the mini fridge and chocolates on the pillows. The breakfast is immense and delicious. The spa area is so beautiful and relaxing. They allow pets and parking is easy. Staff is friendly, the lounge seating is comfortable and spacious. What a wonderful place!

The sun star is an expensive hotel right next to the cable car. Its main attraction for many skiers is that you can park there and collect your car later on the checkout day. However, I was told by an extremely rude and aggressive female member of staff that I would have to move my car at 8am in the morning to the Eiger public car park some distance away. This would have lost us an entire days skiing. I point blank refused to do this and an argument ensued in front of my young son. It wasn’t resolved and eventually I skied in the morning and returned to the hotel at 12 to see what was going on. So we lost half a days skiing. Needless to say the car was still there. Very frustrating and unnecessary. The member of staff really needs some sort of traing in how to deal with the paying public. So if yo7 are booking this hotel with the hole of using the car park on your checkout day be prepared for a row.

Overall, very nice! A couple of misses: I had to let the front desk know that there were several roll away beds left out and a bag of trash to collect outside our room. The English menu says veal when it’s actually a veal liver dish. I advised the management to update this. It was delicious, but we like liver.

Great location because several restaurants esp. great Italian restaurant with lovely pizza and lamb dishes, and shops. Food is very expensive. Better to do shopping in Co-op because reasonable prices.

Staff are kind and friendly.

Zurich Airport is far away therefore easy and cheap way to get to the hotel is by train. No trains in the late night until 5am to get to the airport. Taxis charge min 25 CHF.

Better to get the hotel shuttle bus to go to the station or get a hotel room in Zurich day before departure because we had to leave this hotel one day before the checking out date and the hotel wasn't happy to refund the money to leave day early...

Hotel gave us free bus pass which was very handy to see the town.

Our Favorite Hotel – Sunstar Grindelwald

This was without a doubt our favorite stay in Switzerland. Sunstar Hotel in Grindelwald is simply amazing—the views, the atmosphere, the service, and the location are all outstanding. The staff made us feel so welcome, and the hotel itself has a warm, inviting charm.

But what truly took our breath away was the view from our room. Waking up to those stunning mountains felt like waking up in heaven—an experience that fills you with gratitude.

We will always remember our stay here and cannot wait to return. Highly, highly recommended

The view & staff are the highlight! The rooms need some updating. I saw one that had wood floors but ours had old furniture and yucky carpet. The bathroom was pretty sterile and uninspired too, especially for the CHF 800 + we paid a night.

On another positive, the spa is lovely and it’s really cool that they let you go there anytime because you’re a guest. The included breakfast is also plentiful and the location can’t be beat!

Nice view but that’s about it. Service was average with staff who don’t seem very happy to be there, corridors filled with mattresses and rubbish during the day, construction noise and cranes next door, very busy and basic breakfast with the room looking like a lacklustre function room. Day cleaning consisted of switching cups and emptying the bin. Zero flexibility on anything; ie. I asked if I could swap the complimentary welcome non alcoholic prosecco for a juice or champagne for my son and I was told ‘of course not, it’s that or nothing’. For the price paid, the experience was very poor and I would recommend looking at one of the apartments in town, another hotel or more likely, one of the beautiful car free towns that is less touristy and has very friendly happy people.

No AC. Tiny, plastic budget fan provided.
Breakfast was included but can be very busy with tour groups coming in. Pool and steam room was nice. Didn’t get to use the other amenities as they opened later in the day. Overall, ok stay. Nothing to rave about. Nothing much to complain about.

It’s an OK hotel, but way way way overpriced for what you get. It’s very hot (no AC) so you need to keep the windows open, but the hotel lights an outdoor fire at night so the whole room smells like smoke. You are paying for the views and if you’re not looking out at the mountain, then it’s not worth it.

The property itself is gorgeous and well equipped. I booked for 1 night and only if I have more time to spend in the hotel. The only thing is the bar tender in the hotel is not polite at all and it seems he does not like to serve or be asked about questions.

We had a fantastic stay at the Sunstar Hotel:
stunning views
spacious room
well located - close to \"First\" lift, bus stop by the hotel and ski rental shop next door
super friendly/helpful staff
great buffet breakfast
amazing spa

The only negatives:
the ski/boot room is woefully small for the size of hotel/number of guests. Not only could you hardly move in there at busy times, but sometimes it was difficult to find a place to put your skis/boots. The biggest ski hotel I've ever stayed in, yet the smallest boot room - scratch head.

The bar was very nice with an open fire every night. However on some nights the bar service was incredibly slow - like 25 mins to order a drink. I know some nights were busy and some quiet, but when busy would it be possible to find another member of staff to serve?

Really lovely hotel. You needed to request a kettle and return it at check out. Where’s the coffee machine was in situ. They offered a fridge with complimentary drinks, but they were standard, I have food intolerances which meant that half the drinks were of no use to me. So it would have been better to have a choice. The swimming pool and spa was lovely. But most of the sauna and steam rooms were for access of 16+ and nude, which wasn’t ideal for a single mother. My daughter is only 8. The breakfast was good. Amazing selection of teas. The egg station was good. The cups could have been placed near the tea, not just next to the coffee. Ingredients and labels for food could have been clearer. It would have been good to be able to reheat food and drinks. A microwave for use of guests would have been good. It would have been nice if a simple rosti with bacon/ egg was available at the bar or restaurant and I would have liked it if a portion of chips and salads were also available at the bar.

Exceptional Property, very helpful staff, Mario at the desk was particularly efficient and co-operative. The lobby area is buzzing with activity, has an open Bar, with super comfortable chairs to sit in, around a fireplace. Our room was large and comfortable with a frontal view of the Eiger, spectacular mornings. The breakfast is an expansive Spread, and the staff is always at hand to ensure that it’s a brilliant start to the day.
I’d like to come back here again, for sure.

Basically a nice ski lodge, for both good and bad. Lobby and fireplace are great to hang out in, and views are as spectacular as expected.

Rooms are spartan, but that’s both Swiss and ski lodge. Perfectly clean and functional, but underwhelming on first entry.

Location is awesomely central. Easy walks to some things. Blood pumpers to some key attractions outside town center.

If you accept the mindset that hanging out in your room is not what you come to Grindelwald for, this place is a solid choice.

A bit of a walk, but it is a very nice walk and the views are spectacular. Breakfast was also a must. Very well done hotel and cosy reception. Lounge area is also very relaxing. I had an issue with a bathroom leak in the shower but it probably not common, I let the staff know.

We stayed in 5 different hotels during our trip to Switzerland and this is the only hotel where we have anything negative to say.
The shower broke and fell on my daughter’s head and management offered us a voucher for a future stay for the incident. We won’t ever be back, so declined. The tub was disgusting and moldy as well.
We tried calling the front desk four separate times but they would never answer so we had to walk down to reception. There were 2-3 people just standing around so no reason the phones couldn’t be answered.
The hotel restaurant had terrible service and food. Reviews online seemed good so maybe because we were there in shoulder season everything was subpar? We ordered 3 steaks and they were all severely overcooked. The 2 burgers ordered at our table were essentially raw - they apparently got the temperatures backwards for the entrees.
The spa was also subpar. We really don’t have anything nice to say about this hotel other than the views were amazing - but you can get the same view at many other hotels so I would strongly encourage you to look at those.

Positives: The view of Eiger mountain from this hotel is outstanding. I had a balcony room overlooking this incredible view and also spent some time outside on the hotel terrace with the same view. A cozy fireplace in the lobby and some amazing cheese fondue in the restaurant rounded out my stay. Free city bus passes and a hotel shuttle from/to the train station makes it easy to get around. Bathroom was clean and modern with a deep tub/shower and great water pressure. The staff was great and did whatever they could to make my stay better. Location was also great if you want to go up Grindelwald First! The hotel is right across the street from where you catch the gondola.

Negatives: Rooms are rustic and have NO A/C! Somehow I missed that in all the reviews I read before booking. If it’s a sunny day, that room heats up. They provide a fan, which helped, but the only cover on the beds are these thick, very hot duvets. Also be aware that this hotel is tour bus central with big tour buses pulling up every day and out every morning. Of course, Grindelwald in general felt like tour bus central and was very crowded on the streets even in late October! It’s a very touristy place with lots of souvenir type businesses.

This is an amazing hotel perfectly situated directly across from Grindelwald First. When I say directly across, I mean you can be at Grindelwald First in less than 5 mins. Less than that if you can walk a slight incline quickly.

You are also perfectly situated by the shops and restaurants!

The hotel is beautiful! The upgraded rooms are amazing and the amenities are to die for.
I had a single upgraded room that had a balcony facing the Wetterhorn. I would enjoy my coffee on the balcony each morning and enjoy the views.

They have a coffee machine in the room, complimentary beverages in the mini fridge and even a little piece of chocolate on your pillow! Their spa is unlike anything I’ve seen or experience before. You must go!

Their breakfast buffet (included in your stay) was some of the best breakfast food I’ve had since being in Switzerland. They even have an omelette station.

They offer a shuttle service that saves you an uphill/downhill walk with luggage once you leave the train and when you need to get back to the train for departure.

I could go on and on but I would come back to this place 100 times over.

This beautiful property is in a perfect location for accessing the cable car to First, train station, buses, shops and restaurants.
We stayed in a large room which had ample storage and a fabulous view of the mountains from our balcony.
There was tea and coffee making facilities and drinks in the fridge which were replenished daily.
The bathroom was large with a few essential toiletries and had a bath and shower.
We had the breakfast each day which was very nice with a super range of hot food, cold meats, fruits, yoghurts, cereals etc.
We stayed when the weather was very hot and the room felt very warm with no air conditioning. I appreciate that this particularly hot weather was quite unusual and we were given a fan.
Transport to and from the station is offered on your days of arrival/leavjng.
The area is amazing and the hotel is very accessible for First activities and Jungfraujoch. I would definitely stay here again.
