The staff were friendly but not attentive they gave us a room that was already occupied then the first room was really unsuitable as it was dirty and smelly eventually the room we stayed in was much better but not amazing as it was right at the end of the longest corridor and where the store rooms were so we kept hearing very loud door slams throughout the early morning and during the night too. The breakfast was okay but very crowded we had to wait in a queue sometimes for over 20 minutes. Location was okay but not the best as the taxi’s sometimes got confused where to pick up or drop us. So we will be avoiding Intercontinental hotels in the future.

We spent the first week in October at the IHG Continental Malta. We booked last minute and chose this hotel because we had stayed in the IHG Barcelona which was a fantastic hotel. The IHG Malta is a five star hotel but could do with updating in places, its beginning to look worn. The Club Lounge has limited times something which is different from other IHG's. Other than that I have nothing but praise for all of the staff, they are friendly, approachable and most of all helpful. I would like to give a special mention to Njambi in the Cub Lounge. She was a fountain of knowledge and we based our daily trips on the information she gave us about different parts of the island and also Gozo. Be warned this hotel is in the middle of a very noisy area of St Julians, noisy pubs, clubs and party goers, if you like your surroundings quiet this is not the place for you.

Our stay started with some challenges, but the hotel made every effort to turn things around.

Check-in was delayed well past the guaranteed 3 pm time, and by 5 pm we were still waiting to get into our room. After approaching the reception multiple times, we were finally given access, though no one had contacted us directly when the room was ready. Unfortunately, the room’s cleanliness wasn’t up to standard, with hair, crumbs on the floor, and a dirty refrigerator.

At this point, I returned to reception and asked if an upgrade was available, even at additional cost. To their credit, the staff handled the situation very well and moved us into a complimentary suite. They also surprised us with champagne in our room to celebrate our anniversary, which was a thoughtful touch.

Although we felt that the first day was lost due to these issues, the way the hotel responded made a significant difference. From that point on, our holiday went exactly as we had planned, and we were able to relax and enjoy our stay.

Overall, while the start was rocky, the service recovery and gestures from the staff left us with a positive impression.

I've stayed in a few hotels around St Julian's but this is the first time I've gone as a family with small kids. The staff were excellent, and the breakfast selection in our section was great. Gym facilties are very good, there is a games area for kids with PlayStation, TV and some other games though the arcade machine needs a bit of attention. Room service was really fast, good value for money and surprisingly tasty. The area is very busy and is mainly full of tourists. The is no hotel parking but I was able to find a parking spot everyday within 5 minutes walk which was free. There is a car park next door but I think it is €15 a day. I would definitely recommend it. If you're young the clubs and bars outside are everywhere plus the is the usual western fast food places. 5 stars from me as the kids were happy.

This hotel is not on the beach as advertised, the beach is down the road and there is barely any stretch of sand. There is only 1 outdoor pool which is always full and its difficult to get sunbeds. The club lounge access gives a seperate breakfast area to the main dining hall but is under staffed so the wait times are long and food options are limited.
The hotel is located next to St Julians main party areas so not great for families in the evenings.

The hotel service overall is average and more like a 3* hotel. The garden rooms are dated and have constant condensation in the rooms so all the wardrobes and furniture get wet, the staff did nothing about this. Also the bathroom has no safety railing in the shower and my sister slipped and fell on the first day and was badly injured. Again this was reported to the hotel and they offered no help.

Would recommend a quieter area for families.
Overall would not recommend this hotel unless you have booked a premium suite.

The hotel is lovely, nice, big rooms, excellent breakfast. The pool was lovely and definitely a highlight.
However the beds although comfortable are very small (my husband and I who are both quite slim barely fit in their double bed), the noise from the gym was so loud 2 floors away from 6am until 11pm that we were unable to sleep. There were metal concerts in the hotel 2 nights in a row without prior warning, further disrupting our sleep. Staff although polite, interrupted us every day at breakfast during conversation to have a lengthy discussion to simply ask if everything was okay, constant phone calls to the room to ask if everything is okay, even late into the evening, we had to ask them to please stop calling us.
We tried to eat at the hotel one evening and 2 of the restaurants that were supposed to be open were shut.
It is a lovely hotel - but not being able to get a decent sleep or relax without interruption is annoying.

I am unfortunately writing to register a complaint and dissatisfaction with my stay at the Intercontinental Hotel in Malta. This is a five star hotel, having stayed in many hotels including of a lesser rating the hotel is certainly not operating at a five star standard.

The first room we were allocated was a corner room and the balcony was tiny with an exposed rusty water pipe with a view of a rooftop full of building materials. We expressed our disappointment and were moved to a different room which had a slightly better balcony and view. However, there was a cockroach in the room which we killed and let a staff member at reception know about. We did express we didn’t want any toxic fumes sprayed in the room, however when we returned later that evening that had sprayed the room. The patio doors also did not close properly and the noises from the bars and clubs throughout the night meant we did not have one good nights sleep.

We were also informed that the rooftop pool and facilities were not in use and would
not be open for our whole 7 day stay. This was a huge selling point to us and one of the reasons we picked to stay at this hotel, to not have been informed on the closure prior to our arrival or when we booked is not acceptable. Nothing in the pictures advertising the hotel looked like that in real life.

A smart hotel in an area with a lot of building work going on. It is also very close to a nightlife area that could be noisy. However if you get a \"garden view\" room, this overlooks a very large central garden and noise is not a problem.

Breakfast is very good (although some of the hot dishes could dobwith being warmer) with a massive selection. Best hot option is the on demand kitchen dong eggs benedict; omelettes; and poached eggs.

Unfortunately the building works opposite we’re relentless,from 8am until 6pm everyday accept Sunday.Head phones whilst sunbathing are a must and the rooftop pool was beyond cold,temperatures said it was 23degrees but it literally felt like it was minus 1 and there was no one going in only the very brave who quickly got out as quickly as they had entered.

My room contained high levels of mold verified by the housekeeping Manager. industrial strength cleaner was used as well which made me ill and almost triggered an epileptic seizure. Several calls were made while I waited on the balcony > 3hours. The client service manager arrived to upgrade my room, saying straight to my face \"I told my crew after talking to my crew, \"we gotta do something with this guy\" he is really sick. As you can imagine my stay \"as the guy\" was less than uncomfortable. Corporate intervention and re-training is in order here.

We only had one issue with the air conditioning in the room, which Francoise dealt with by finding us another room (thanks again) and was followed up with a courtesy call from Guest services. There is a lot of building work going on in the area so the picture of the pool on the 10th floor doesn't show the buildings now overlooking it. The area is very lively but the soundproofing on the rooms meant we weren't disturbed. The staff in the Opal lounge restaurant on floor 7 were very friendly & attentative and the food was lovely. A special thanks to head chef Claudio for his assistance with my unusual request for the local Pastizzi - Grazzi Hafna! Overall a very enjoyable stay. Only downside was parking and traffic in the local area if you are thinking of driving.

Fantastic Experience at Intercontinental Malta

Our family visited Malta in August 2024, and our stay at the Intercontinental Malta was exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the impeccable service. Special thanks to Elsa at reception and Katerina Angelkovska, the Guest Experience Manager, for their personalized and efficient attention.

Our 42m² room was spacious and comfortable, with stunning views of the sea and gardens. The amenities were top-notch, including slippers, bathrobes, and an excellent bathroom. Santa, who took care of our room, made our stay even more enjoyable with her outstanding service. Bolong, who looked after our children's room, was equally attentive and ensured everything was perfect for them.

The hotel facilities are luxurious: multiple pools, including a rooftop one, a full-service spa, and a private beach. Breakfast was a highlight, with excellent service and a wide variety of options.

The hotel's location is perfect, with easy access to Malta's attractions and vibrant nightlife. We had a small issue with the bed configuration in our children's room, but the staff quickly resolved it, even with the hotel fully booked.

We highly recommend Intercontinental Malta for a memorable stay. Our family loved every moment!

Amazing hotel, we were really looked after by staff who were always attentive.
Breakfast options were plenty and really pleasant to have breakfast in the main restaurant,
Room was clean, spacious and comfortable and cleaned daily, water was topped up and the welcome gifts were an added touch. Fridge was available so we could put bottled water in to keep cool for when we went to the gym.
Pool was very big, quieter in the mornings and if you want a bed by the pool you need to go down before 10.30 otherwise there are plenty of beds further away.
Ample gym equipment to use for guests and an indoor pool which seemed to be really popular. Also had an amazing treatment at the hotel spa.
Absolutely no complaints and can’t wait to stay again.

I cannot fault the staff who were absolutely fabulous, there are a few tiny things, but the overall experience is absolutely amazing. The main pool is great with plenty of staff serving pool snacks. Upgrade to include the Opal Lounge, makes the experience so positive, breakfast every morning and then afternoon tea is worthwhile. The resort is great with plenty of food options, especially for a family, well for what we wanted.

The staff were great but the hotel was not kept on good enough condition.
First, we had an issue that the room smelled bad. This was caused by mouldy smelling pillows. This took two visits to fix. First they put on new pillow cases, second, they replaced the pillows (the actual cause of the problem).
We had issues with the in room fridge that required two visits to fix, the sink, fixed in one visit, the air conditioning that took two visits to fix and caused a few nights of poor sleep.
Then the was the condition of the hotel. The carpets in the corridors looked like they were never hoovered. I walked past the same debris day after day.
They had two pool tables but the cues were in a poor state.
The hotel has three swimming pools which is good, bit you have to pay €60 per person to use the pool on the top floor.
We asked to have some laundry done for us while we stayed and I was horrified to find out that our socks, t shirts etc cost is ~€148 to have washed. This seemed like daylight robbery, but I guess we should have enquired about the cost first.
The breakfast was mostly good but my wife did find the fish a little dodgy the day we left and I found some baked goods a bit stale on occasion.
The area the hotel was based was party central. As such, it was always busy. The street we took most days to go out for dinner was busy, dirty and smelly.
One night we were woken by lads on the room above us singing, shouting and stomping at 1am.

Beautiful hotel, all the facilities you could expect for the price. Breakfast was awesome with plenty of options. Staff is efficient and ready to help. Tea and coffee making facilities are available in bedrooms.
Everything was good but one humble suggestion if they could install a new air conditioning system. It seemed quite outdated and inefficient. The air conditioner vents were black due to dirty filters and in desperate need of cleaning.

We loved our stay here the staff in opal lounge (arjanve, mary and sopo) were amazing. They suggested places to visit with kids and could not do enough for us. Rakesh in the restaurant downstairs was great he washed out babys bottle and filled it with milk, as did the ladies here.

We travelled with two small kids (2y and 4y).

The rooms were nice and clean
Very close to restaurants walking distance
Little bit of shopping bits around too
Not too far to other locations such as mdina and valletta
Breakfast was amazing even for me whos a vegetarian and a bit of a foodie

The area is a place for more of nightlife but we had no issues as usually our kids are in bed by 8pm
One evening the hotel water stopped (I assume this is one off)
\"Private beach\" is not really beachy its more of a bay with some loungers. Although this didnt bother us as the pool was much better for us.

Lovely five star hotel with lots to do around. Staff were polite and very helpful and would go out of their way to help. Lots of options at breakfast. Some of the restaurants/facilities were closed. Shower at the indoor pool is disappointing, needs attention and Air-conditioning unit was not working so the room was a bit warm. A fan was brought to make us feel welcome. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

The Paranga restaurant staff very very welcoming and service was excellent. We were not happy with the manager at Waterbiscuit restaurant, he was very arrogant.

This hotel is horrible. Dark little rooms, buried 7 floors below sunlight - that is the garden rooms here. Pool is tiny and inadequate, nestled next down to a skyscraper under construction, worker leering over your wife as she bathes. Smells of damp in the rooms. Staff are however nice and you make the best of it. Terrible music playing everywhere

The hotel staff were very excellent and very attentive. Especially once they knew my son had a nut allergy. They proceeded to clearly mark the ingredients on the food counter and on occasion when we dined in , they prepared his food separately. There is a lot of construction in and around the hotel which makes it a bit noisy on occasion was the only downside.

Maintenance being carried out at 8:30am wasn’t the wake up call we had in mind.

In addition to this the pool bar staff were very unorganised and didn’t seem to understand how to make the cocktails which are on the menu and were unable to correct the issue.

The over all service was lacking from what you would expect from the 5star hotel and felt more holiday inn level of service. Having now been to the area I think I would consider a number of other hotels over this one.

This has honestly been a once in a lifetime holiday. I have never come across such incredible staff. Nothing was ever too much and they all went out of their way to make sure we were happy, from gluten free food options to chocolates to help bribe my fussy son to eat and everything in between. Not a 5 Star experience at all.
Hotel is NOT located on a private beach as per listing. Hotel actually has very small roped off section of St Julian's public beach located in the towns tiny cove.
Location of hotel is approx 300 metres away in the middle of a very busy street that is part of a one way system with heavy vehicle use.
There is an extraordinary amount of high rise construction in the area immediately surrounding the hotel. It is noisy, dusty and vehicle access to the hotel is frequently restricted by lorries delivering materials to the construction sites. Given the proximity and volume of construction in the area we feel the hotel should make guests aware at the time of booking as there is no doubt that it made it very difficult to enjoy our stay. As a heads up, the hotel opposite is advertising that their building work is not expected to complete until Summer 24.
I would also caution families with young children against using the hotel. St Julians is a busy resort with a very established adult night life. The hotel hosts single sex groups of young adults who were noisy and inconsiderate of other guests when they left the hotel in the evening (circa 11.30pm), came back in the morning (from 4.30am) and at breakfast where it was clear they had been out partying all night and had come to sober up.
Perhaps as a result of the above the hotel looks and feels tired. The decor and general maintenance is below par all of which contributed to the less than 5 star experience

This hotel is in more of a party zone. The hotel rooms are dated a bit and dark. The staff are amazing and the Dailey breakfast was a 10/10.

The Opal Lounge team were very friendly and helpful - so a great kudos to them for making our stay really enjoyable. Our spacious room was cleaned with fresh supplies of Toiletries and water bottles everyday - wow so happy with that cos we had a family room with 6 of us in it. We had easy access to buses and cabs so getting around wasnt bad at all. We got great value for the money paid which covered room accommodation, access to facilities, breakfast, afternoon treats and pre-dinner for all 6 of us. Overall i would highly recommend this hotel and i would certainly go back again if I visit Malta in future.

Not up to Inetrcontinental standards

There is a serious humidity problem at the hotel in general. We had to change the room, it got slightly better but still very humid and it was hard to sleep. Staff is really nice and breakfast is ok but aprat from those the condition of the hotel is definitely not up to the Inetrcontinental standards throughout the world.

Great that the hotel has been renovated. For business this is a very good option in Malta. You also have pools and access to a beach. Sometimes it can be noisy because of the nightclubs nearby.

THe hotel is really great and the restaurant staff were really first class.

ONe small negative was the private beach area which played the same terrible music sequence every day at top volume. In fact when i went for walks up the hill on the otherside of the bay i could still hear it. Totally unnecessary to have the loud music, especially as it was such a terrible choice

Staff are great and really helpful. You have the choice of an outdoor pool with sun loungers, or beach club (which is small) but a nice alternative to the pool. The rooms are spacious and comfortable.

The indoor pool seems to have become a childrens play area more than a swimming pool, and the stream room actually had quite a lot of tiles missing off the seat, which could actually cut you if you sat on them and this really needs sorting.

Be mindful that the area seems to have become the spot for 'gentlemens clubs' that are right at the back of the hotel. It's the walk through to Spinola Bay where you will definitely want to go for those waterside restaurants. And really isn't a nice walk behind the hotel and doesn't feel very safe.

Whilst the property offers many amenities in particular if you have access to the lounge, pool and beach, it’s location too close to the main club street which is the main walking route to St Julian’s bays may not appeal to families.

This is a lovely hotel in the busy St. Julian’s area of Malta. The service is first rate. The staff are all very friendly and the rooms are huge. We loved the balcony and the bed and bathroom. I can’t remember his name (it started with an M) but one of the concierges was outstanding. He arranged a private tour of Malta one day as well as a day trip to Comino and Gozo. The hotel has two pools. The hotel has a great pool for all guests with plenty of umbrellas. We didn’t stay on the Club level so we didn’t use the rooftop pool. The public beach is a bit seedy but the private beach with the Intercontinental umbrellas is nice. The Waterbiscuit restaurant was outstanding. Be sure to try the mushroom and leek soup. Delicious! However, the Paranga restaurant on the water is disappointing. Overpriced, mediocre food and mediocre service. Overall, however, InterContinental Malta is one of the best hotels on the island and we would stay there again if we ever return to Malta.
