Very poor and unacceptable experience.
Despite a confirmed booking for a room with two double beds, I was given a room with one double bed and one single bed. The staff stated that the room I had booked was allotted to someone else, which clearly indicates mismanagement. A confirmed booking must be honored without exception.
The room provided was freshly painted, and the strong paint odor made it extremely uncomfortable, especially since I was traveling with my family. We checked in around 11 PM and had no alternative accommodation at that hour.
Additionally, hot water was barely available. The water was only mildly warm, which is completely inadequate during December. This added to the discomfort and made the stay extremely unpleasant.
This property failed to meet basic hospitality standards. I would not recommend this hotel, particularly for families.

We stayed for 3 nights at the Hotel Ajanta. The lady working at the Check-in desk was absolutely marvelous. We arrirved at 330pm and had to wait a short time for our room - in return the Hotel treated us to a complimentary upgrade. The suite was fantastic and had all the necessary amenities. Room service from the attached Cafe restaurant was also very food. All the staff including the door man were most helpful and polite and did everything to accommodate our needs. The location is great making it easy to get around. We were very satisfied with this Hotel and will be back again on our next visit to India.

The price was great. The hotel was quiet and centrally located. The breakfast was great- all you can eat with a great variety. Everyone was very nice. I found this Hotel through the Lonely Planet book and I’m so grateful i found it. It’s basic but was PERFECT for me. They have a cafe/restaurant on site which is convenient too! If you are ok with a basic solid hotel to crash at the end of each day, this place is perfect!

The property and the photos do not match, it’s a 1.5 star property being passed off as higher quality. The resturant inside the hotel is 3x more expensive than the same food your would get across the street, literally across the street. For a quick and cheap stay it’s not bad but don’t expect much than a room to sleep in. They offer free hotel Pick up but you will be responsible for 250 rupees for the passing of the car.

This was my first trip to New Delhi, and staying at Hotel Ajanta was definitely the way to go. The hotel and the room were beautiful, near Old Delhi. The front desk gave me good advice about where to get things I forgot to pack. They had a travel service in the lobby that connected me to a driver who took me on the best tour of Delhi. They also recommended we visit the Taj Mahal, which wasn't in our plan, but ended up being one of my most favorite things in India. And the driver left early with us so we could see it in the morning ligt. I felt safe and cared for in a new city and country! Our driver also took us back and forth to the airport a few times, greeting us with marigold malas and water. The hotel's restaurant, Café Vagabond by Saffron, was delicious. I would recommend staying here again!

The hotel room were tacky for a 3 star.
No amenities were there as mentioned in the room details of my booking.
1. No windows in room
2. Towels and bedsheet were yellowish white in color, too old
3. I booked a double bed, they provided me with a twin bed
4. Had to ask for toiletries. They didnt already put the hand soap

I did not know about the area Pahar Ganj but I was not happy with the area and location of the hotel. It was also a bit annoying that the picture on Hotels.com was of another hotel a few doors down the road. I was promised an Executive Room with balcony but never saw the balcony. The room cleaning service was only carried out if you dropped your room key at the reception in the morning! This is not what I expected. The breakfast area spills out into the reception area and was very disappointing in terms of quality of food, seating area and cleanliness. I had to share a table with other guests!

Awful experience at every stage

On arrival at midnight, we were shown to a room with no towels, toilet paper, top sheets for the bed so had to ask for all of this. When sheets arrived they were muddy and blood stained, once we had clean sheets we had to make our own beds. The room had an internal window onto the corridor and a grate above it open into the corridor so very noisy and zero privacy. Hot water didn’t work, we got it fixed on day 2 (took an hour) on day 3 no hot water again. Safe did not work. Hassled by staff for tips for rectifying problems. We had booked a deluxe queen room with daily housekeeping, housekeeping did not come unless you hand in your key (we were not told this) and we were given a small twin room. Booked airport transfer at reception and clarified this many times, this did not show up as the staff never actually booked the car so we were late to the airport. On the last day we ate all 3 meals at the hotel and my partner had severe food poisoning for 5 days from eating dinner at the hotel restaurant (minced kebab). This ruined not only our time in Delhi but also our next week in Nepal. The tour agent in the hotel very friendly and helpful as was the restaurant manager. The driver that took us around Delhi for 2 days (arranged by the hotel) was great.

Okay for a short stay in Delhi

Location is very noisey and one of the most busy and narrow tourist hotel streets in Delhi, its hard to walk around here without getting clipped by a car or moto. Hot water was good. I paid for an AC room, but non of the AC in the entire hotel worked due to some strange excuse management gave me..Mildew and dirt on bathroom ceiling, needs to be deep cleaned. Breakfast was good, but again, more attention to cleanliness needed when so many people are using buffet utensils. Overal its ok for a short stay in Delhi. Bring earplugs.

Needs better maintenance. Shower cubicle does not have food or shower curtain so the whole bathroom gets flooded after a shower. Fixtures are old and need to be replaced. Rather congested area. Lots of eateries around. Rly station is ver close. A big plus point is their airport pick up service which is free except a fee for parking charges. There is a in house restaurant which we did not try. OK as a transit hotel.

The hotel has lot of old world charm but it is in dire need of upgrade. The bathroom in our room was dated. We had booked a superior room, the best available.
The room was very spacious and comfortable. Room service was prompt.
The complimentary breakfast was not the best. The food was cold and the staff did not look too happy to serve. I did get an omelette made which was good.

I booked the the hotel for my inlaws who are senior citizens. I was horrified to know that the hot water supply in the washroom was not available in the morning.Remember that December is very cold in Delhi,India.The reception informed that their water heating system not working and it would take a couple of days to get it repaired.After my inlaws made lot of noise they were provided with four buckets of water which probably was heated in the hotel kitchen.Pathetic!

I asked hotel to take money for train station pickup and provide complementary airport drop off but they denied, which I think was unfair.

Scam Tourist Information and Smelly room.

Terrible location in Paharganj. The street is unsafe and chaotic we had to get uber to get in and out.
Also they are operating a SCAM tourist information in their lobby. Before you check in you will be asked to go to this 'office' to sell tours. I have previously booked my itinerary and this guy was forcing me to Cancel my train and flight bookings. Reminder this is a SCAM just like other tourist information in delhi.

The rooms have no exhaust therefore stinky. Our bathroom have no exhaust so it's accumulated moisture and gross.

I regret staying in this hotel. Please save yourself from trouble. Pictures are deceiving.

All of the male staffs are useless except for Miss Gunjan. Hotel male staffs expects tips for every muscle they move. Its like they are not being payed by the management theyve got to rely on tips. Room was dirty and dusty, electrical sockets were loose and dangerous. Hotel staffs walk into rooms with their shoes on. Tv remote and aircon remote was faulty when arrived and they expect to be tipped for replacing batteries. Huge amount of useless staffs loiterring at lobby not doing any work except for Miss Gunjan.
The hotels food deserves a mention. It was tasty and delicous.

I lived staying at the Ajanta! As an older hotel, it provides you with the colonial architecture built by the British, but updated to the 3.5 star status. The staff was excellent, although English was occasionally an issue. Of course , the room was small with it being old architecture, but would be also adequate for two if you didn’t need to lay out large suitcases. I laid out mine on half the bed and my carryon on a small table provided, still leaving me the tea table. English programming on the television, a place to store luggage for when you take side trips (like to the Taj Mahal), shower head AND bucket for bathing, small cupboard for hanging clothes. This was the perfect place for me. I booked with an airport pickup and since I came in by train, they exchanged his for a transfer sat the end of my stay.

The restaurant is good, but charges cannot be put on your room. Breakfasts are great. Room service is available, I think, as there was a menu in my room. Tea and coffee provided to make in your room, but water and snacks in the room are extra, which I ate gratefully.

The location is just across and down from a gate to the New Delhi train station, so convenient for booking side trips to Agra or Shimla or wherever. Also, you are very close to Old Delhi, which saves you on travel time in this large congested city.

I will stay here again when I return to Delhi and India, in the coming years. Thank you 🙏. M

We spent only one night here waiting to fly out of India after a month. Hotel is better in reality than it shows on website, but had to turn down one of the two rooms due to filthy mattress, so got another room. Bad service in the attached restaurant waiting over 45 minutes for omelette, that arrived cold. When asked for another, they re-heated the same one with the bite out of it. However, front desk staff Ganjun was great and went above and beyond providing us with free transportation to the airport. Bell boys well intentioned and pleasant but very slow off the mark, taking 20 minutes to bring luggage down to waiting car. Hey, it's India. Check out rooms with balconies as they seemed MUCH better than ours with no windows.

One of the worst experiences in my life

We got to Delhi completely tired and were surprise by discovering this hotel was in an awful and unsafe area.
It was very hot (the outside temperature was 40C/100F) and when we got to our room and turned the air conditioning on, in a matter of 5 minutes it started leaking and all the floor and our suitcases flooded.
We asked for help and the employees just brought buckets, but didn't fixed the issue; so we had to sleep with the air off (at 40 degrees).
The bathroom was horrible, like the ones in the highways, with no toilet paper and no running water (we were supposed to instead use a bucket). The shower wasn't working as well so we couldn't shower.
The bed had no sheets and we had to ask for them (they were expecting for us to sleep in the mattress and on a filthy cover)
On the next day, we spoke to the hotel manager and at first it seemed he was going to be helpful, but he just kept us waiting, loosing our time, and offering us a change of room when what we wanted was to get out of there immediately.
We tried to ration with him about getting our money back for the next upcoming nights but he refused. He was rude and not empathetic.

Our first day in India was absolutely ruined for this experience...

The cleanliness of the room in general were ok besides the fact that we had dirty bedsheets (with bloodstain and yellow spots). Other blankets were delivered... they also had stains but did smell \"fresh\". The main issue was the staff... only one member of staff greeted us throughout our stay!! The uniforms were also very dirty and in general the male staff just looked scruffy. They have many names from regular guests on the doors, but for sure we will never return!

Ajanta Hotel was great. Would recommend it to friends and family. Price is good for the type of room. Clean rooms, service is great. Breakfast is fantastic. Would choose this hotel again for my future visits.

Very central, surprisingly quiet room, great staff

Pahargange is one of the noisiest, busiest areas in Dehli as it's so close to the main railway station, but as a solo female traveller I have found it very comforting and safe to walk around for that very reason..lots of people, lots of tourists, and the Hotel Ajanta, although really central, had amazingly quiet rooms. I had booked a room with a window, but on arrival (late after 10pm) was given an internal room with no window but I was tired and it was late so I accepted it. However, next morning, even though I'd had a good nights sleep, it did feel a little claustrophobic for me, so I asked for a window room and was happily taken around 3 different rooms and given a choice. I actually decided to upgrade, for not a whole lot more money, to a larger 'suite' with a lovely balcony on the 4th floor as I was going to be there for 4-5 days. It was great. Staff on reception extremely helpful, as were all the other staff. Will definitely use again.

Useful for short stopover

This hotel was handy for walking or a tuk tuk to the New Delhi Train Station where we purchased train tickets from the Foreign Tourist Office upstairs. We stayed 2 nights. The breakfast was good, the restaurant food very good and the coffee shop opposite was good for people-watching. Our room was located above the coffee shop and was not as well kept as similarly priced rooms from experience. The housekeeping staff knocked on the door at 5.50pm and we felt this was too late to clean the room. There is a travel advisor who gave us good information but 3 times tried to convince us to use a private car. The street outside the hotel is very busy and noisy with horns, shouting and dogs barking. This reduces considerably between 2am-5am. Definitely the noisiest road I have ever stayed on. It was handy to have the restaurant and coffee shop there but I would recommend looking for a more modern hotel that is looked after well with better windows even if they are not double glazed.

Good location and good food at the restaurant.

Hotel was clean and basic which was great for the price.
Only downside was we all got bit by bed bugs. The duvets were stored in a cupboard and I don't know if it was that or the pillows.

Nice hotel close to Train station

Nice hotel close to train station and main market is withen walking distance. Food was okay sometimes the water pressure in the shower will decrease but not an issue. Staff were friendly and always willing to help. I did few toll calls but the reception did not charge any money. Will come back again.

Great location, average room.

Great location, staff and restaurant.
THe hotel offered a free airport pick up which was great. I opted for room plus breakfast and dinner which was great as it saved me having to look for somewhere to eat each night. Food choice was great with excellant service. The hotel owns the coffeee shop opposite which was great for a afternoon coffee and cake if required.
The location is great if you are planning an onward journey by train as it is on minuted from the train station.

A small complaint was a leak in the toilet area, which they did attempt to resolve by putting sealer on the base of the toilet bowl, however i later discovered that the problem was the overflow which i resolved myself.

Dirty Rooms; Minimal Amenities

Room was very dirty, dust on floors, dirty bedsheets. Room has no window. No shampoo/ shower gel. Extra charge for drinking water.
