Very friendly and accommodating staff. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the breakfast selection excellent.
We did find our room too hot and there was a droning noise on and off all night which wasn’t related to the room itself. We mentioned it to the staff on check out and they immediately said they’d investigate. Excellent customer service throughout our stay.

Staying at Malmaison Oxford felt like doing time… The room was spacious, spotless, the bed was actually comfortable (shocking for a former prison), turning on the lights gives you that prison sound and the location is dangerously convenient for wandering Oxford.

Add in the juicy history of the building and suddenly your overnight stay comes with a side of true crime vibes. Clean, central, and delightfully dramatic — 10/10 would get “locked up” again.

The hotel and its amenities were great - welcoming, good breakfast, interesting architecture. The suite I stayed in was not great, and I'd advise against booking a suite. It was split level, with the thermostat on the upper level. Due to how the heating worked, the upper level needed to be set at 25C to get the lower level to 19C and the bathroom remained much colder. The wrap around bedhead - the mattress end slotted into the bedhead - took 10-20cm from the bed length meaning my feet stuck out the end of the bed and I had to sleep diagonally. The mezzanine level - the 25C room - was fully occupied by a large conference table with four chairs, with no easy chair / armchair. Am sure the hotel has had this feedback before, and should just change the furniture, throw out the conference table and the wrap around bedhead, and sort out a better heating arrangement. Will not stay again. Quite possibly the more economical regular rooms do not have these problems

I realize that this was an old prison but be aware that the food is still prison quality. A club sandwich which was fantastic 5 years was a singed yes not even charred assembly of chicken and ham both also singed The smell of singed flesh was nauseating.

Really enjoyed our stay. Hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room was beautiful and spotlessly clean. We stayed in a Clive double cell and it felt very spacious. Nice bathroom with a separate shower and tub. High quality linens and towels were thick and plush and generous sized. Good location, close to the station and walkable to everything. Breakfast is pricey but very nice. Service excellent

Hit this place up for a late NYE gateway.

Great hotel,
great location,
great bar with various areas to sit and enjoy a cocktail!
Breakfast (hot) £26 PP was decent and did include a drink at the bar .

Room was clean and tidy and very cosy. Water, coffee and safe in the room.

All Staff were helpful and bar staff knowledgeable on drinks and cocktails.

Parking was steep (but it was valet parking and secure outside the hotel) so all good.

Only gripe I had was we were charged twice for breakfast but were refunded swiftly when we called and informed them

We enjoyed our stay—the hotel is in a great location and abounding in charm and unique character. The only downside was our heat would cut off after a few hours, so we would awake to a 17deg Celsius room. Other than that, we loved our time at MalMaison.

Malmaison is such a cool concept. We loved that we walked almost everywhere in Oxford. The room was comfortable in general but the bathroom shower is quite small and somewhat uncomfortable. The bathroom was large enough to hold a much larger shower. Even with this minor issue, we would stay here again.

The hotel is in lovely location for walking around central Oxford. The staff are engaging and helpful to a 'T'.
The reason for the low score is the room and general decor of the hotel.
First: The Room. No heating in the room and bathroom. We did report it to reception and was presented with a heated that had been sat on as all four legs were so bent the base of the radiator was touching the ground. Some heat is better than none.
Also, there was a fidget toy for one of the light switch. It makes a very satisfying sound, but nothing happened. Great for those with ND!
Second: General Decor. Take the lift of chance. In the lift the display of which rooms/facilities were on each floor was so warn off that it was a marvelous and very tricky wordle challenge. When I pointed this out to the receptionist in the morning, I was told it was not an issue as they are getting replacement lifts soon. A does not equal B!

Good to be greeted on arrival to valet park the car.
Check in was simple we arrived early so room not ready but when we came back all bags in the room.
Had an upgrade so got a roll top bath which we didn’t use 😂
Bed is comfortable hotel is warm fresh looking and stylish with good quality furniture.
Bar service was very good with knowledgeable bar tenders who were friendly.
Not really much atmosphere in there for a Saturday night but I guess people are out on the town although we arrived back about 11.00pm it was fairly quiet in the bar.
All staff very helpful and polite.
Only criticism is the breakfast.
Only one coffee machine so ques for a coffee is not great.
Only juice option was Apple which is poor in today’s game.
I had a cooked breakfast and quality of bacon was poor and over cooked, sausage was average and beans were luke warm however scrambled eggs were lovely.
Others had eggs Benedict and French toast and all said they really enjoyed theirs.
Overall yes it’s expensive for a nights stay but a quirky hotel with massive character. Would I go back? Probably not now I’ve been I’d try somewhere else but well worth going if you’ve never been.

We stayed in a standard cell room which was clean and adequate, bed was lovely and comfy. We had dinner at the slug & lettuce which was on the hotel grounds. The hotel is in the perfect location to visit Oxford city and colleges. It is close to shops and restaurants and provided you pre-book the parking is very convenient. Our room ( junior suite) was large and comfortable. The room was cold on arrival and it was not clear how the heating worked but once we got instructions it warmed up fine. The bathroom was cold throughout our stay because the only heating is a heated towel rail which is insufficient for the size of room. Also when you turned in the light a fan turned on automatically. It was aggressively loud and there was no other light source. There was a free standing tub in the bathroom but if you wanted to use it you would need to listen to the industrial strength fan which is not very conducive to a relaxing soak in the bath! Service was good at reception but it took half an hour to get a drink in the restaurant do our food arrived before we were served a drink! Our server did biologist when we complained and chomp’s the first round of drinks..

Was put in one of the dungeon rooms (\"The Clink\") which I had purposely NOT selected when making the booking. Nice basement room. Was quiet until the maids started work early the next morning. Their utility room door was immediately outside and was shockingly loud - kept thinking someone was opening the door to our room. Other than that I was happy with the hotel.

While thrilled with an early check in, my room was on the bottom floor, was cold until 2 portable heaters were brought by maintenance. The power went out on Sunday evening—9:00pm until I approached the front deck for assistance at 6:00am. Obviously no back up generators. No compensation for any inconvenience. I did have a lovely dinner at the restaurant. Overall staff was professional and pleasant.

For the price, this was a very average stay. The elevator being out of service for the most expensive rooms is unacceptable. Staff were not overly friendly and there was construction all over the property. The front enterance for pictures was really the only interesting part. Would not recommend this hotel.

A Quirky special place to stay.

Beautifully quirky former Oxford Prison hotel. We wanted to stay in a cell room which are only offered with a double bed. We would normally have looked for twin beds but on check in, were offered the opportunity for an extra single bed to be put in the room. Staff were very helpful and professional. The prison has been sympathetically transformed and retains all the former features which make it a special place to stay. Parking was offered right outside if needed. Location is perfect for exploring Oxford.
