E’g bringing room service but forgetting the cutlery. At these prices everything should be first class. The pool and garden are fabulous. A perfect oasis. There is nothing nearby to eat or go out. You’ll need a taxi.

This hotel is what it claims to be. Its gardens are beautiful, the buildings are historic and in excellent condition. The food is good and plentiful. We rented a suite, and the view from our suite was outstanding, as it was on the fourth (European 4th, American 5th) floor. The staff was accommodating and friendly, and otherwise unobtrusive.

The American Colony Hotel is a hidden gem in Jerusalem. I booked it based solely on positive reviews but it was so much more than that. First, it’s a historic hotel that still reflects the beauty and charm of when it was built. This was our first trip to Israel and we had no perspective on Jerusalem or what locations were both safe and convenient. Sited at the intersection of East and West Jerusalem, we loved the hotel’s location because it was easy to walk to sites in the old city of Jerusalem but it was outside of the noise and chaos of the most touristy areas. We stayed in a Pasha Deluxe room in the old hotel with a balcony overlooking the hotel’s beautiful pool and the view was lovely. Most importantly, the entire staff…from the front desk to the bell men, housekeeping staff, wait staff, and the concierge…were all focused on providing great service during our stay. I relied heavily on the concierge to arrange tours with private guides and transportation. The concierge staff was knowledgeable and responsive in answering questions quickly and in planning the excursions we wanted during our stay. Our guide for two days, Emil, was incredibly knowledgeable and professional as was our driver, Faisal. There is also a wonderful bookstore and antique and textile store on the hotel grounds if you have downtime for browsing. We are so happy we found The American Colony Hotel for our first stay in Jerusalem…we’ll definitely be back!

When we first arrived at the hotel there wasnt any parking... I had to go inside and ask for help. After eventually helping us park. We checked in. In the front desk the guy was nice but wasnt very informative regarding our stay... He jsut gave us a paper and nodded. We went up and found a nice room. Not amazing but nice... At the price of 1500 nis a night. you expect a better room.

I expected more after reading the feedback, but didn't find anything worth all the hype around this hotel. Room was clean and comfy, yes, but so many things could be better - even silly things like if you put a coffee maker in the room, why put it unplugged on a table with no AC sockets nearby?

Breakfast was... ok. Nothing special, aside for bacon which you can't find in Kosher hotels.

Its an oasis in the middle of a hectic and alive part of Jerusalem, not a cheap oasis but definitely a good one. The food is fabulous, the room was unique and comfortable and the staff were exceptional. Didn't like that our room had absolutely no view.

This hotel is not up to the quality standards of a five star hotel. The furniture was dated and unclean, and the service was awful (they don't even have a real concierge). The staff was so rude and inattentive that it was almost comical. Breakfast was in what felt like a cafeteria, not a dining room.

For my husband and I it was very much a treat at the price we paid so the room was disappointing as it only had a flat roof outside which looked like an access area and not as special as we had hoped. Breakfast was not included in our package and there is no a la carte options only a buffet priced at $32 per person. One of the most beautiful hotels we have ever stayed in. Some cosy perks like radio in the bathroom, an amazing swimming pool with a jacuzzi and a shady inner courtyard made us totally fall in love with this place ! One downside the slow service ! We waited in average 1 hour to get our meals !

The location and grounds were very good. Very near the historic old town. However we found the staff were in general arrogant and lacked the concept of service that I would have expected from a hotel that advertised itself as “one of the worlds leading hotels”. We were refused tap water in the restaurant and we had to ask that our empty, dirty plates were cleared from the table more than 15 minutes after finishing the course. This applied to at least 3 other tables near us, whilst 4 or 5 staff stood talking in the corner. The suited restaurant managers were most guilty of standing around when service was required. When we asked for cold milk for the room to go with the tea and coffee making facilities, the hotel wanted to charge us as a room service extra. We also found that the staff were all putting their hand out looking for a tip, yet not providing the discrete service one would expect from this hotel.

Peace and Tranquility in Hectic Jerusalem
Beautiful old historic hotel - away from the crowds so great for relaxing but if you want to sightsee it is a rather far out from everywhere - a taxi ride and the fare is not cheap! We had a comfort room. It was a good size but it was clearly a little tired and in need of renovation and modernisation. The air conditioning was noisy and the shower and bath again need modernising. The staff were delightful and the dining/drinking areas were lovely. The pool was beautifully located and the free water was a lovely extra which makes it the 5 star it clearly deserves. Ideal get away from it all hotel in Jerusalem.

Our hostel welcomes up to 300 independent travelers each night.
