When we first arrived we were told they had to love us to their sister hotel because they had no AC and it needed to be repaired. But we returned later in the week and it was better. I was underwhelmed with the facilities. The sister hotel was much better but its location was far. The best part of the Bolivar was its location.

Room was cramped and small for 270$/day charge. Not a 4 star hotel as mentioned in Expedia. Location is good though - lots of tourist attractions closeby. I would recommend staying here if you get a room for 2 at ~130-150$.

Faulty listing of beds

We booked a room that had three beds upon arrival found out. It did not have three beds and they said none of their rooms do but the description of the triple room showed a king a queen and a full bed.

The hotel is in a perfect location to access all the famous city centre sites on foot ... within a few minutes from the hotel you can be looking at places like the Roman Forum, Colosseum, Trevi Fountain and much more. There are a great choice of restaurants & bars nearby too. The staff in the hotel are very nice and helpful. The hotel is old and the rooms I had a few quirks such as the bathroom had an odd shape and felt a little cramped but that was a minor issue. Breakfast was not special but adequate enough to get you ready for the day. One thing to be aware of, the hotel is tucked away down a narrow street from one side and lot of steps from the other side.

Very quiet location perfectly situated to go to most of the attractions. Farthest was the Vatican (20 min walk) but most within 10 min walk. A little hard to find at first (glad I had a car pick me up). About 20 min walk to main train station. I would definitely stay again. And the buffet breakfast was great!

Good location and very close to most attractions. Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was so so. There was no coffee or tea in the room and not even in the lobby. There was a bar in the lobby which you could purchase tea or coffee. For the high price that they charge, should have been available for free.

Great boutique hotel

Hotel Bolivar is within walking distance of most major attractions, as well as, the hop on hop off bus, and restaurants.The hotel itself is small, yet comfortable and clean. Breakfast was provided and adequate. Our only complaint would be the hard, flat pillows. Peter, the host at the front desk was exceptional. He went out of his way to ensure all of our questions were answered and also arranged for our private transportation to the hotel and ship at a competitive price. We were very please with our visit and would stay there again.

Close to everything

The hotel is on the backside in a quite location. Small rooms, just okay breakfast, could have been better, fruits looked rotten, the lady helping in the breakfast area was also putting food in her mouth while restocking the food. Beddings are not too comfy, linens look very old. No tea kettle in the room. The only good part is that you can walk to all the attractions. Won't mind staying again because of the location. The front staff was very helpful. Bathrooms are too small. The money we paid for 3 nights was more according to the room and food condition. Go in the downtown area to try the food, it's good there, instead of trying something next to the hotel.

We were there for 5 nights. The first night we were assigned room 102, on the first floor. This room is not 4*. Noisy, and depressing. We asked to change rooms the next morning and were put in room 111, on the second floor. Much nicer and much quieter. The breakfasts are nice, as is the view from the top floor breakfast area. The help at the front desk was first class. The location is wonderful. Our mattress was a bit too firm. Probably varies, room to room.

Bait and Switch again!!

Horrible experience. They did not have our rooms and tried to move us to a \"sister\" property that was not in the center of Rome. We refused and rebooked another hotel on Hotels.com. Hotel Bolivar assured us we would not be charged as it was their mistake. The second place was great but now we are trying to get our refund back from Hotels.com for Bolivar since Bolivar charged for the rooms. I've read a few times this happens so obviously Bolivar, being centrally located, overbooks on purpose then tries to relocate you to one of their less desirable properties hoping you won't complain.

Bad experience!!!!!

Horrible experience!!! Arrived at hotel 7pm after an 8 hr drive to find out that they did not have our 4 rooms bc A/C was broken. They wanted to move us to another property that was not near center of Rome. We refused and rebooked on Hotels.com at another hotel which was great but this hotel still charged Hotels.com for our rooms and now Hotels.com isn't giving us a refund even though we rebooked on Hotels.com for another hotel on same days!!

This is more like a 3 star hotel. For example, room service was not available and room inclusions were minimal. The bed was hard and bedspread dirty, and there were plumbing problems in the bathroom. Staff were generally abrupt and rude, with a couple of exceptions.

Location!! Location!!

This was my 4th stay at this hotel and it is just perfect for me. Close to everything that I enjoy in Rome. Walking distance from all except Vatican City, which is just a little too far for me to walk. It is located on a quiet street with a wonderful resturant just across from the hotel.

This is a quaint boutique hotel.

The hotel is centrally located and within walking distance to most popular attractions in central Rome. It is difficult to find so I recommend taking a taxi from the Termini or airport, much easier to handle luggage and finding your way than fighting with the bus traffic. The one thing I missed having was coffee in the room. There is a complimentary breakfast on the third floor, which was o.k. but not great. The front desk staff were very helpful and all-and-all I would stay here again.

The only downside was (due to staying in a room that overlooked the steps beside the hotel) the noise from people that were at the pub at the bottom of the steps or who used the steps as a shortcut

Nice weekend in Rome

Stayed at the Comfort Bolivar Hotel for 3 nights.
As previous guests have commented the rooms are on the small side but adequate, the pillows are very thin, but after reading others comments on the pillows we bought a pack of two pillows from Asda before we went for £3, perfect, didn't even have to bring them back lol
The breakfast was excellent, really nice room on the top floor.
The hotel was perfectly placed for getting out and about around Rome.
Will certainly book this hotel again if we return to Rome. Well recommended.

Nice hotel in an excellent location, only minutes from Forum, Trajan's column etc. Clean and cool and calm. Breakfast buffet excellent, and the breakfast room on 3rd floor is very pretty with an intriguing view out over the city. Chose the hotel for its very central position so can't really complain that the room was not over-large - with 3 single beds it was quite crowded. But very clean, and comfortable.

Great location and breakfast but chalenges within

Small room and bathroom. Be prepared. The toilet in the hotel room was virtually unuseable with a design that forces your legs below the sink. We ended up using the bathroom in the lobby. Our toilet seat was broken...probably because people had to find a way to sit comfortablly in a away that overcame to poor design. When we arrived, our room was not available because of a broken shower. The hotel tried to move us to another (remote) location in the city which would have runied our trip as we chose this hotel because of its location. The hotel foiund another room for us after some complaining. Later that evening, a group of young girls showed up and was given a room that we were told was not available. The next day, a room that we had booked became available and remarkably the shower was an issue (some of the plumbing fixtures were installed backwards and shower curtain missing.) We did not complain for fear we would have been told there were no more options....the other hotel offered was very far aay from the historical sites. All in all, a frustrating stay. The staff tried to explain and apologize, but we could not help but feel that the prpblem with the room could have been handled before we arrived that day. To be told we were going to be shipped to another section the city was unacceptable....expecially when, after comlaining, another room quicly became vacant. This hotel is in a great location. If you can deal with the challenges, it is a good find.

Surprisingly great.

When searching for a hotel, this one had some negative reviews that had me scared. The location looked great so I went for it. The hotel is located in an incredible location, within hours of our arrival we were able to walk to many desirable locations such as the Trevi fountain, the Pantheon, piazza Navona and the Spanish steps. The staff were very helpful when directing us around and giving us suggestions on where to eat/visit. The rooms were small, but that was expected, they were very clean, breakfast was a great continental, some fruit, pastries, eggs, bacon, prosciutto etc. In the end, I feel this was a great little hotel, quiet (35 rooms or so), clean, affordable. I say, go for it.

Hotel Bolivar is great. It is around the corner - kind of hidden but walking distance to most of the main attractions in Rome. The staff is fabulous. Very friendly and will help with whatever you need. THe breakfast was not the best food I've had in Rome and the wine in the bar left A LOT to be desired but the staff made up for the rest. Its a small hotel. Small rooms which you can find throughout Europe. Very clean. Highly recommended.

During our five night stay, we were happy with this hotel because the staff was, overall, quite friendly and helpful and the location is unbeatable. The breakfast buffet was very good and is served on a rooftop location with nice views. We would recommend that you insist on a room above the ground floor. As noted in other reviews of this hotel, some rooms on the ground floor are simply in an unacceptable condition. To their credit, the staff was responsive to our complaints when we were placed in one. The hotel would be well served to convert these rooms into an expanded public space, since the lobby is of limited dimensions and it is difficult to imagine an American guest finding such a room acceptable for the price. That said, this is, overall, a great hotel that offers many of Rome's most attractive destinations within walking distance. A lovely restaurant is situated across the courtyard from the hotel, and another that features very acceptable pasta dishes and pizza for reasonable prices is only five steps further away. Highly recommended, if you get an acceptable room.

Great location but dated

Fantastic location for a sightseeing visit to Rome, with a decent spread at breakfast. Unfortunately the hotel was very dated and noisy. The staff were friendly and helpful, however the bar never seemed to be open. On check-out we felt the lack of drink pricing clarity had left us with a 20euro bill for two drinks at the bar. The hotel is rated as 4star by expedia, however I would say that 2-3 is more accurate. Despite the hotel sign saying 3star outside, the rome city tax is priced as 3euro pppn not the 2euro it should be for 3 star hotels. Having said that, we did enjoy our stay in rome greatly, and the location of the hotel was perfect. The old style of the hotel was not to our taste (as a young couple).

Comfort Hotel Bolivar

This hotel was an absolute disgrace!! We had booked it over the internet (a big mistake) thinking that we were booking a quality four star hotel and instead got a totally substandard dirty hovel of a hotel. We picked up the key and were directed to the first floor next to a room with a yapping dog!! We immediately realised that this hotel was going to be poor. We went downstairs to complain and were then directed to another room on the same cramped floor just a few doors away. We could still hear the yapping dog, the door to the room didnt fit properly, the room was no more than the size of a shoebox, dark, dank and extremely dirty. We were so disappointed. There was no tea or coffee making facilities no fridge. The bathrooms was small and smelt of bad drains, there were a few unappealing soaps on the small old sink unit. No separate shower just a shower head that didnt work properly. Tepid water. The rooms was below standard and reminiscent of dirty budget hostel. The whole hotel felt run down and in disrepair. Totally disappointing, would not recommend this hotel at all. If you are thinking of booking this dont!! Not worth the money a complete rip-off. We paid way too much and dirty beyond belief. Very very poor!!

Air conditioner in our room was being worked on when we arrived. We were offered a free drink while we waited a few minutes. We were offered a smaller room or a room at another hotel or we could wait till later to see if it was fixed in the original room. When we returned, the air conditioner had been fixed. Rooms a little small but then again we didn't go to Rome to spend a great deal of time in the hotel room. The shower door was missing making it a little awkward to take a shower. The hotel is tucked away on a quiet
street. The location is close to all major attractions and
shopping. We were very pleased with the breakfast selection. Would certainly book here again.

I had read mixed reviews about his hotel before booking it. Upon arrival I thought that I had made a mistake in booking it as there was an electrical problem when we arrived which meant we couldnt check in. The staff however were very friendly and explained that if they couldnt resolve the problem then they would accomodate in a sister hotel however the problem was resolved. Our room was plesant enough but not to a 4* standard but the friendliness of the staff made up for this. The location of the Hotel is good and there are enough bars and resteaurants in the area. There is a small resteaurant accross from the hotel which has excellent food but is quite expensive.

Nice, quaint little hotel, on a cul-de-sac, so don't have all the traffic noise of main streets. Great location, close to many main sites, easy access to and from. Rooms and esp. bathroom a bit small, but manageable. Would stay there again (although not necessarily cheap these days given the dollar to the euro.).

Hotel Bolivar, great location, wonderful staff

We loved our stay at Hotel Bolivar. The location is excellent, being a block off a major street meant easy access to sites without the noise of the busy street. It is tucked away in a little cul-de-sac with a fantastic little restaurant across the street. The room was a little small but very comfortable, the breakfast was great with scrambled and hard boiled eggs, bacon, etc. We would definitely return to this hotel again. The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly.

Hotel Bolivar - great location / tiny rooms

Teh Hotel Bolivar is located very centrally in Rome. It is on a very quiet street - really a dead end. teh rooms are very small, even by European standards. But, it was fairly clean, though it could use some updating. The staff at the front desk was helpful in recommending local restaurants.

Great location ... shame about the room

Having looked at lots of photos of this hotel I was anticipating a room that would be of a good standard. The room we were given was ok ... functionable at best. We soon realised that all the rooms on the first floor were not of the same standard as the rooms on the other floors and that are room was probably just a standard room and the others superior. When we were booking we were not given a choice. The actual location of the hotel is fabulous; near to all the main sites and it is in a quiet and safe neighbourhood. The breakfast room on the roof terrace is lovely and there is plenty of choice and enough to enjoy a good breakfast. All in all, the hotel is good and I would recommend it as long as you get booked into one of the superior rooms.

Could have tried harder

We booked the hotel with two other sets of friends so we could be in the same hotel. The hotel had some issues with power on one of the floors so they could not accommodate all of us. One of the couples were given the grossest room I've ever seen (think seedy no-tell-motel complete with stains) while two of the other rooms were re-booked into another hotel over a mile away.

The hotel we were re-booked to was still under renovation and did not have a working elevator which might not have been bad if we were not on the 5th floor.

The point of booking was to be in the neighborhood together to make meeting up for meals and tours easier. Overall, it wasn't a great experience and was very inconvenient. There was no attempt to contact us early in the day so we could make other arrangements or to move our entire group. I realize there are things beyond the hotel's control, but a little effort and an apology would have been nice.

First time in Rome I was apprehensive and when the cab pulled up in an alley and the driver said thats it, i felt ill but this quaint lttle hotel was so warm and inviting it was a joy to stay there, from the conceirge to the house maid and the brakfast lady they were brilliant the breakfast was great sittting on the roof top breakfast room surrounded by history was such a thrill. The rooms probably by Australian standards were small but we only slept there because your in ROME, it was comfortable clean well heated , bathroom was great, everything was great

Great home base for exploring Rome

The hotel was well situated and appointed, but difficult to initially find as it is located on a sidestreet. But it's location within a 15 minute walk to the Colosseum and near the bus lines make it an ideal location to explore Rome. It is only a short stroll from the Trevi fountain.

The concierge services were exceptional. Requests were responded to within minutes. The staff were extemely helpful in providing directions and assisting in arranging airport transportation. Their suggestions saved my party time and money during our trip. They were also very willing to store our luggage after check out until we were ready to depart for the airport.

The buffet breakfast provided by the hotel offered a wide variety of beverages and an extensive selection ot breakfast items. All of the offerings were attractively presented and tasty. The buffet location, on the top floor of the hotel, provided an attractive and relaxing location to enjoy breakfast and start the day..

The only thing lacking was washcloths. But this seems to be the norm rather than an exception in 4 star European hotels.

Near a lot but a bit outdated

The room itself, while we were barely in it, was a little outdated and had an old room smell to it. The service was prompt and friendly but there's a hole in the middle of the foyer that I nearly broke my ankle on. The hotel is on a quiet block and is only a stone's throw away from Piazza Venezia and a 10 minute walk to the colosseum. However, it isn't really near any of the subway stops, but is near a few bus lines if you know how to use them. I would keep looking for another hotel.

Hotel Bolivar

Hotel Bolivar was a very comfortable and relaxing hotel in the heart of Rome. It was a bit difficult to locate at first as we walked from the subway station, but being tucked away in its off the street location is what made the hotel very relaxing as there was no street noise at all. All of the must see things in Rome were within walking distance. Just around the corner was a nice Irish Pub that had many different draft beers and was also very relaxing (Corks Inn & Pub). The room was comfortable, with good air conditioning. Bathroom had a tub and shower, but was a little tight, otherwise all was good. Breakfast was on the top floor and had a good view. Breakfast was typical European, with breads, cheeses, ham/salami and cereals, the coffee was hot & good.

Although a little confusing to find at first, the hotel was really well situated - between ancient Roman sights Trevi fountain. It was quaint and small with very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was good up in the dining room on the 3rd floor. The rooms were small, but clean and air-conditioned, and the bed was comfortable. The only negative was the bathroom which was really small and old with dodgy plumbing - but we were told that they are in the process of upgrading and after peeking into one of the new rooms they definitely have been improved.

A Very well hidden Roman Gem

The hotel would have been difficult to find without booking the airport shuttle, which is considerably cheaper than any other method of reaching the hotel.
the hotel was clean and beautifully decorated with marble and gold everywhere Our bedroom was beautiful and on the ground floor because of my bad knee. The bathroom was more than adequate though the plumbing left a bit to be desired. The location was superb for access to the colloseum and the Trevi Fountain and the open topped tour busses pick up just around the corner. The tour busses run every day from 9 till 9 and take a different route on sundays So if you buy a 48hour ticket and include sunday you will get the best value. Overall a great trip but not reccomended for anyone with duff knees of feet. You finish up crippled.

Great hotel, location, rooms. Exceeded expectations. If coming by taxi have a printout of location as some cabs have trouble finding the place (despite it being only 100 yards off a busy street).

Hotel Bolivar in Rome

The room is rather small, carpet is old, can't even tell if it's being vacuumed but the room has everything you need. We stayed there for 4 nights. The staff is friendly and helpfull. The best thing about this hotel is location. 10 to 20 minutes walking distance to major attractions: trevi fountain, pantheon, colloseum, spanish steps etc. Yes, we would recommend this hotel.

Great location well kept small hotel

Small hotel located on a quiet street in a nice neighborhood. It was accessible to the major attraction sights. We felt safe walking back from the Trevi Fountain at night. The building was old but well maintained, the room was small as expected but very clean. The beds were comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast room had a nice roof top view and the food was amazing. We will stay there again if we go back to Rome.

Great location!

We were staying in Rome for only one night after 2 weeks in Sorrento. The person at the front desk was great helping us to find a few of the important sights to see in Rome before our departure the next day as well as helping us find a good place for dinner. The room was small and clean. Breakfast was ok, not great but sufficient. We would stay there again. EXCELLENT location.

Hotel Bolivar in Rome, Italy

Great location for walking to most all the sites of ancient Rome...Trevi fountain, Roman Forum, Colliseum, Spanish Steps, Borghese Gardens.

AC didn't work in our room, luckily we were upstairs and had a couple of cool June nights so we could open up the windows.

Quiet location. Nice staff. Excellent breakfast.

Would probably stay here again.

Hotel Bolivar, Rome Italy

The hotel is located in a small alley in the heart of Rome. At first the alley setting was somewhat unappealing but the alley itself was clean and safe and sequesters the hotel away from the street noise. There is a quaint restaurant directly across from the hotel in the same alley. The bathroom fixtures in our room (#101) needed updating but otherwise the room and bed were clean and comfortable. Our daughter slept on a sofa bed in the same room. Complimentary breakfast (scrambled eggs, pastry, fresh fruit, etc) is offered daily in a third floor room with breathtaking views of the city.

The hotel is centrally located and is a short (<0.5 mi) walk to major attractions and the subway and seeing the vatican and coliseum, the imperial senate, the vatican and a few other ruins in the same day was possible.

The staff was friendly and helpful and arranged a car to the airport for us that was less than the prevailing taxi rate.

I highly recommend the Hotel Bolivar.

This hotel was extremely well located, close to all the tourist attractions. The hotel was located down a quiet road. Our room was located on the ground floor close to the reception desk which was quite noisy in the morning but this was unfortunate as most rooms were located on the other floors. Breakfast was adequate, not superb but fine. The room was clean and bigger than most hotels in Rome. Because of the location and room size, I would recommend this hotel. Watch taxis in Rome, always get them to put on the meter and there are set prices for taxis to and from the airports.

Hotel Bolivard - Great location

Love this cute little hotel! Tucked in a cobble stone drive way that give a sense of privacy and what great about it is the hotel is walks away to major tourist sites. Rooms are clean, staff are friendly. Breakfast is not great but not bad either.... sufficient. We only stay one night so not much more can be said. We would stay here again.

hotel location was our primary objective. the hotel is only 5-15 minutes walk to most attractions. pleasent atmosfere and extremely quiet. it has a country feeling within the city. a nice breakfast is served on a lovely rooftop restaurant. the only drawback was that the room was too small.

It certainly was a gem of a location, you can walk to most sites of interest, and Peter (Hotel Manager) was the man who knew everything. Great location for all the sights & sounds of Rome

Having been advised by a friend to spend a little extra on a hotel in Rome in order to get closer to the centre, and a bit more comfort, I wasn't disappointed with choosing Hotel Bolivar. On arrival, we had to wait about 20 minutes or so while they got our room ready, but we were about 4 hours earlier than the allowed check-in time, so 20 minutes wasn't going to put us out! The room was small, but clean (important), and I have to agree with some other travellers about the shower curtain, having to try and not create a swimming pool when you're showering is a little challenging!

Breakfast was absolutely fine - standard continental buffet, but lots of food to be had, and the view from the breakfast room itself on the top floor was superb, worth 2 of the star rating alone. You're within walking distance of nearly everything - 5 minutes to Roman Forum, 7-8 minutes to Trevi Fountain & on to Spanish Steps, shopping, restaurants, museums. There's a really nice restaurant just down the way from the hotel as well, off a side street to the right of Via Nazionale as you're heading down the hill. Lovely food, great espresso's!

If you're looking for 5-star plush setting, Hotel Bolivar may not be the place for you. But if you're looking for somewhere central, with clean, comfortable rooms, and heplful and friendly staff (who couldn't help us enough when asked), then I would definitely recommend Hotel Bolivar.

The reason to stay here is mainly for location. You can walk to most tourist attractions. We stayed off season and rates were reasonable. The staff was helpful and airport service (extra fee) was prompt for our returning flight. If you're a traveler who only uses the hotel room to collapse into bed after being out all day it's fine. The room we finally got was a bit tacky. The carpet was stained and the walls were also covered in some old type of carpeting that needed cleaning. But, it was larger than the first room we were shown. I noticed some rooms that were being cleaned were more modern and tiled. Maybe they're working on improvements. We were unable to take a shower standing up because there was no shower curtain and water was going everywhere. Breakfast was only adequate. My husband and I spent a month in Italy this trip and this was the only disappointing hotel of the vacation. In Rome I would spend a bit more on a room or take more taxis from a hotel less centrally located.

Fantastic location, average hotel

We arranged with the hotel for transport from the airport for the 4 of us and all our luggage so there was a man waiting with a sign with our name on it - we were pleased we'd paid the small amount extra from a taxi for this service as we'd travelled from Australia were tired and clueless. Check in was smooth, staff were friendly, our room was on the 2nd floor with a double and two twin camp bed style beds - neither of the kids complained so they must have been comfy. Our bed was hard but we slept ok. Not much room to move in the bedroom which had a tiled floor. The bed covers were old and grimy but the linen was clean and the bathroom refurbished and pretty good, but again small. Breakfast was fine, perfectly edible, the breakfast room is brilliant and a good start to the day.
The very best thing about this hotel is the location - lots of great sights a short walk away and for things further afield bus stops close too. I thought we paid a bit too much however it was Easter and so I guess everything would have been dear and we had limited time so the location was key. So long as you know what to expect I would say this hotel is fine for people needing a great location and a base only, don't book if you want to sit and watch TV or spend a lot of time in the room.

Hotel Bolivar--A two-star experience

We decided to stay at the Hotel Bolivar given it's excellent proximity for touring ancient Rome. This turned out to be true. Otherwise, the hotel was a very poor value for money. The room was tiny (even by European standards), and the service almost non-existent. Front desk staff were not at all helpful, doling out the \"free\" internet service one hour at a time, forcing repeated returns to \"reload\". Breakfast was free, but mediocre. Billed as a three or four-star hotel, we were hard-pressed to give this hotel a \"two\"

Happy with Bolivar

The hotel was great – the location is perfect – close enough to everything but also secluded so that the rooms are well sound proofed.
The staff were wonderful and very helpful. They actually went out of their way to assist us. There were different person at the front desk and they were all fantastic. We would not have called this a four star hotel but the service was impeccable.

The breakfast was also a really good continental breakfast and has lots of variety and was well organized.

Our room was small and a tight fit but the actually bed was comfortable and we had a bath in the bathroom which was nice to find – this is not the case with all European hotels.

We were very happy with this hotel and would recommend it and return there.

Good location of the old,mini size hotel,not impressed at all.

Location of the hotel is excellent,walking distance everywhere,exceptVatican.But that is the only good thing about the hotel.The rooms are extremely small,it is impossible to open up the closet ,because there is not enough space in the room.The staff is very helpfull,but they can't do much about the condition and size of the rooms.It is nosy outside the hotel and you can hear it in the room.Breakfast was okey,but it was exactly the same things every day.If you are looking for good location,you may take your chances with Bolivar hotel,but if you are looking for comfort of 4 star hotel,look for another hotel.Bolivar was not even 3 star hotel by any standard,even though they claimed it is 4 star hotel.No way.

Excellent for the price

I planned an 8 day tour of Italy entirely on Hotels.com, so I'm being very honest with my reviews. Bolivar was a very good stay for the money. Arrived at 9am but able to check-in immediately. Front desk staff-especially Peter-very helpful and spoke English well. Location superb...5 min walks to Trevi, Pantheon, Piazza Novona, Forum and Colosseum. Bus stop half block from Bolivar...plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. Room was small and bath awkward (why Rome hasn't learned to use shower curtains is beyond me), but all tolerable given room price. Doors and walls paper-thin...hallway traffic sounded like they were in our room. Also didn't help that lobby staff liked to smoke immediately outside the front door...smoke drifted up the stairwell and right under our door. We ended up covering the door gap with a wet towel. Elevator tiny but serviceable. Free rooftop breakfast really nice touch...good selection of food and wonderful morning views. Area was surprisingly noisy...Bolivar is near to Parliament and hospitals so it seemed like a police escort or ambulance was blaring its siren every 20 minutes. On day we arrived, Bolivar had an electrical issue that killed all individual outlets except in lobby...so couldn't plug anything in, no TV, only lights worked. Peter let us charge-up in the lobby and all was working by next day. Wi-fi available in lobby and very affordable. Price was very reasonable for Rome...excellent location and service along with a tolerable room makes Bolivar a gem for City Center.
Tip: Bolivar is very hard to find, even for some taxis. Print and carry a map with you, or tell your driver to head for the end of Nazionale. Bolivar is up a blind alley with little signage. Also: try the restaurant immediately outside Bolivar's front door.

Small European hotels

Our double bed room was very small but especially the bathroom, shower, etc. The best part about staying there was the breakfast up on the 3rd floor. Great roof top view and the food was very good. For the money I would hesitate to recommend it but then I believe all hotels in Rome must be over priced.

Great location, nice hotel...

Good value for the location (5 minutes or so walk to Trevi Fountain, 10 to Spanish steps) and it was clean and the staff was very friendly.

Hotels.com and TripAdvisor have it listed as a 4 star, but it felt more like a 3 star from the quality of the room finishings, mattresses and sheets etc.

Breakfast was definitely adequate, and the breakfast room was nice. The lobby and cnnected lounge/bar are nice as well, but again felt more like 3 star than 4.

I would stay there again and recommend if traveling on a budget and looking more for location.

When in Rome...............

The hotel is situated off the main road but central and within walking distance to the main places of interest. The entrance to the hotel is in an alley way, you must look out for the signs on the road for the hotel
Breakfast was self service and good. The room (double) had only room for half a suit case of clothes and a safe that was not charged for. The drinks fridge was quite expensive especially a small bottle of water which cost E3.00, bought in the newspaper stall could cost you about .80 cents. The bathroom has a small shower which just had enough room to stand in and you couldn't turn around without banging into the side of the shower or turning off the shower tap. Rooms were cleaned everyday and fresh towels replaced everyday too. The room had airconditioning and is well lit. The TV does not really cater for English programs apart from Eurosport and CNN which was not very clear. But after a long day of sight seeing the last thing you want to do is watch TV!

Overall I would recommend this hotel if you just want somewhere to lay your head at night, have a shower and breakfast. Might use it again but will upgrade the room.

Quiet central hotel

Bolivar really is within easy walking distance of major sites such as the Trevi fountain, the Pantheon and the Colessium. We even walked to the Vatican from the hotel! A metro station is close by for trips further afield, as is the main railway station. The breakfast room is lovely and breakfast plentiful. I'd advise filling up as much as possible; Rome prices are REALLY scary!

Bolivar Hotel Roma SI SI!

Very pleasant, small, friendly and adequate rooms. The location is quiet and convenient ant the breakfast is lovely served in the sunny 3rd floor breakfast room. When requested one can even have espresso or latte brought from the kitchen, a little hint from a Danish traveller on our second morning.
