The room was noisy. I could here the people above walking about and the TV. On the morning of the 27th January 2026 I woken up at 0530 by them banging about. The staff were good and the food in the Bistro restaurant was very good ans filling.

The location was a short walk from the train station and also the bus station.(Other hotels were further away) The building is old, but the carets looked recent. The staff were excellent, including lending some plates and cutlery for a takeaway.

The windows were painted closed in the room and did not open. The condensation from the windows was dripping onto the floor and table. We checked with reception and they advised there was nothing they could do about the windows. The staff were nice and the breakfast was decent enough and the hotel location was also very good and has parking. All in all it was fine for a couple of days max.

The room had no hot water for a shower in the morning, I reported this to desk clerk @6:45 and he didn't seem to care.
I skipped breakfast and just left at that point, as I didn't have any faith in the service to follow.
The room was noisy with a continual water pipe noise from walls, and the alarm light flashed bright enough to light the room once your eyes adjusted.
The pint I ordered was off (replaced - thank you), the room I ate in was cold. The hotel is not somewhere I could recommend

Exterior not as pictured. Room a dump. Holes in walls. Wallpaper peeling on both sides of every sheet. Carpet filthy. Freezing cold with no thermostat. Windows allowed freezing air from outside into room. Bedding cover a thin sheet; froze all night. Pillows horrible. Staff claimed our room was an upgrade. Would hate to see the regular room. Would never stay there again. Unfortunately I trusted Expedia recommendation. Lesson learned.

Very old but fairly clean. Front desk clerks were Fabulous and so kind. Restaurant staff were kind except a young blonde lady who was extremely rude and very hard to understand when she talked. The food was nice at the restaurant with reasonable prices. Bed s were old and hard but the rooms had a bathtub. Parking was difficult. I would stay there again.

First time at the Alexandra hotel but won’t be our last, very nice receptionist who gave us a lovely spacious loch view room, thank you Elaine , excellent onsite Bistro which we tried, good food and value, location could not be better being right in the middle of town, breakfast was the best we had on our 4 night in different hotels Highland trip, great choice and quality, had a pleasant comfortable stay on our last night before heading south. Definitely recommend 😁

The front desk lady very rude and liar. The room number 405 is full of bed bugs. (I am going to upload pics on trip advisor)
The house keep staff is very good and helpful. They immediately made sure that we get refunded.
But over all the room was extremely dirty, dusty, rotten smell, curtain all black with dust and spider webs. Windows were loaded with pile of dust.

Great location in Fort William! We were thrilled to found it available but seemed to be too good to be true. The carpet was shredded worn down to the netting in high traffic areas. There were mould spores on the bathroom ceiling, the tub drain needed to be cleared because a short shower left the tub almost completely full. The wifi didn’t reach to our room and when I inquired about another option, reception promptly told me to “turn my phone off and on,” as I’m in my 20s that gave me a little chuckle. The overall room was run down - not just outdated. The bathroom ceiling and walls have cracked. The photos show a quaint older hotel with character, the reality was unclean and rundown. Very disappointed

Very small room. Toilet had no extraction fan or window. Shower was dirty in bits. Bits fell of tap in the sink (I put it back together). Had to ask for more toilet paper. At 7am no hot water for a shower. Breakfast wasnt a patch on the twice i had been to this hotel before.

Hotel was in a great location, plenty of shops, bars and eating places nearby. Our room was ment to be a superior double, the outlook was awful looking into other room windows, was a closed courtyard type, if you could call it that, bird droppings and feathers everywhere, not what I was expecting whatsoever from a superior room. Room was small in size, no extractor in bathroom so it was extremely uncomfortable when having a shower, the bed was comfortable and large, duvet just about covered the mattress, pillows were so uncomfortable, hardly any filling in them. Bar staff were friendly, front desk staff were quite sour. The ‘shop’ turned out to be two cabinets at entrance to bar area, which was fine but front desk staff didn’t have access to any of the items as it was the responsibility of someone outwith hotel who only came on a Tuesday apparently, so no use to us as we were there Friday-Monday. Hotel was quiet and reasonably clean so that was good. We will return to Fort William but unfortunately won’t stay at this hotel again sorry.

Hotel chosen for its proximity to the train station, this was the only plus point.
The downstairs smelt of food.
We had dinner at the Bistro on one evening, a bottle of unchilled lukewarm wine served in a wine cooler, we had to add ice to the glass.
Lacklustre staff who are only interested in the coach parties that provide alot of their business.
TV in room not tuned in, receptionist defensive and suggested we swop to another room (unsure if any other tv would work) but advised it wouldnt be a room of the same 'standard' we had paid for.
Dining room is filled with circular tables from the coach parties, they were being set up for the evening meal while breakfast was still taking place. It felt like we had stumbled into a conference not a hotel restaurant.
The corridors to the rooms are long and there are steps.
Room 219 had a revamped bathroom, TV was working after the 2nd day (we stayed for 3 nights). Mattresses on beds were 'tired' and need replacing. Curtain pole would benefit from some polish to help with closing the curtains.
Hotel allows luggage to remain at the hotel after checkout (our train journey was at 6pm) but it remains in reception in view of the front door, there is no secure left luggage facility.
I am sure there are hotels in Fort William that enjoy having guests to stay and want to make their holiday as enjoyable as they can, sadly The Alexandra isn't one of them.

Rough night of sleep but location is good.

Check in was fairly quick but little to no information given. Hotel really needs a coat of paint everywhere. Hallway to rooms is dark and walls are scuffed. Hotel room is ok, but again needs paint. The bathroom had a very nice new wall tile and fixtures, but the floor was old. Beds were very hard and uncomfortable and all three of us had terrible sleeps. Pillows were all the same and quite thin. Location is nice but the hotel property, front and back, is very unkept. Close to several good dining options and very walkable street. I don’t think we would book here again, just because of the beds. Expected a bit more for the price charged.

The room was clean enough, but the “superior double” wasn’t superior. The hotel is showing its age and needs a refresh. The walls in our room were very thin and I could hear next door showering in the early hours like they were in our bathroom - we could also hear them on the toilet. We were above the bar, so on the first night we were treated to the noise of the entertainment / karaoke until 10:30pm. As stated the room was clean enough,, it was just dated. The location is very good for the town centre or the train station.

Parking was ok but a few large potholes to navigate in the car park and spaces are limited.

Staff were all pleasant and helpful.

We were £172 per night with no breakfast it’s very expensive for what it is.

Would I stay here again? Not by choice.

I want to share this with tourists traveling to Scotland. Most of the hotels in the Highlands is like stepping back in time. The Alexander is no exception. For the price of the room I think they are taking advantage of tourist traveling in the area. So here’s the gist. The front seat person was kind and very friendly. No complaints there. No Air Conditioning in all of the hotel. TV utilized and antenna only handful of channels. Requested king or UK double room. Ended up with twin size beds. I am 6’2 feet hung over the end of bed. Bathroom seemed remodeled however the tub was very chipped. Breakfast came with room. However they ran out of food. All I was able to do at was pourage and white toast.

For a hotel that caters to foreign tourist they must update the entire hotel. What might be right for someone living in the UK it is not the same around the rest of the world. Get rid of all twin beds. Add AC and make sure a proper breakfast is provided.

This location is at best a youth Hostel.

The room size is fine for a solo traveler but the electrical outlet was no where near the bed since its an old fashioned style room. Do not expect modern appliances to be easily accessed from the outlets. Sink is in the main room instead of bathroom. Tub was brand new and looked recently replaced, but nothing around it was updated like panels or plumbing. If you like the historic feel and just need a place to crash, its fine. Very close to lots of restaurants and just across street from train station.

What a run down property. The entire place needs renovation. Lifts didn’t work, you can’t open the windows so absolutely no ventilation. The mattress, sheets and carpets were way past their lifecycle. Bath tub didn't drain well… Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere.

Really worn and dated. I was in room 205 and could hear the lift squeal through the wall every time it was used. The bed was really hard.

The plumbing was so loud when I flushed the toilet. I had to leave at 6am and felt really sorry for anyone in rooms next to, above our below mine it must have woken them up.

£72 for a single room as described for 1 night seems too expensive, excludes breakfast.

Property needs a refurbishment. The room we were allocated seemed tidy, however it had an unbearable smell in it. We advised reception and she sent someone to look at it. We were advised it was a plumbing issue and may go away of the taps were run for a while. The receptionist, Inga, however found us another room, which didnt smell. This room was stuffy and tired looking. Inga was very nice and helpful .

Jump off for Great Glen Way

Well located in Fort William, a good jumping off point for the Great Glen Way or ending point for the West Highland Way.
Checking was good, was able to check in early. But it looked like the small desk could get overwhelmed easily. Breakfast was a full buffet with all the usual items in the UK.
There is a bar for convenience, and a restaurant I did not eat in.
Property is dated. Still fine for what and where it is. It is very close to the beginning of the Great Glen Way, so convenient if that is your plan.

Absolutely unbeatable location. Alexandra is literally a moment away from shopping, the train (including the Jacobite) dining and the main road. So glad we chose Alexandra, will gladly return!

Breakfast buffet was provided with your stay. It was an excellent source of energy to the start of our day. Hotel staff was very responsive (we asked for a fan, and they delievered to our room immediately. However, there are a couple issues we had with our stay. First off, our room had a distinct unknown origin smell. Secondly, the bathroom door did not shut all the way so it would not lock. Next, the bathroom mirror was slanted and facing downwards, making it difficult to use. Lastly, the elevator could only fit two guests, so you may need to take multiple trips if you have luggage. Overall, it was still a great stay at this hotel in Fort William.

No hot water for showers or for other needs. Made our stay to relax and refresh ourselves during our travels extremely disappointing.

The outside of the shower tub was delaminating.

Pigeons were nesting just outside our windows making noise late intot the evening and very early in the morning.

We like that the old hotel had a lot of history attached to it.
Staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble.
The hotel could do with a refurbishment, as it looks worn and and dated, but the costs involved i assume would be astronomical.
