Room was v clean ,comfy bed, spacious but rather dark at night with no central light , room heater in room 405 very noisy could not leave on when trying to sleep.
Breakfast was very hit and miss,not all items available at the same time we had to go back several times to get a full fried breakfast,ran out of white bread at 09.45 with 1.15 hours to go until breakfast was over.
All in all good value for money apart from the breakfast debacle.

Not good service by Receptionist on arrival. She seemed pleasant enough but was ‘snarky’ and smug.
Room cold and heating controlled by hotel.
Lift not level on occasion and our concern dismissed.
Another receptionist refused to freeze our cooler pack ice block saying not allowed whereas waiter said it was fine.
Very limited menu.
Fab view from our room and we would only return because of that.

Enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It was simple but met my needs as I didn’t stay in the hotel during the day. The bar had a decent selection of food, had a large well kept clean eating area, and the breakfast was good. Some parts of the hotel were tired looking, shut off and in a state of disrepair but the communal areas were well kept and attractive. Lovely view of the canal from the bar area and upstairs breakfast dining area, but I didn’t get a chance to walk along side of it. The car park was convenient as it was located downstairs and easy to get to. Was a bit of a maze in the actual hotel but you quickly got used to where to go. I stayed on the 2nd floor and didn’t have the best view from my hotel window as it overlooked a large roof with a big metal pipe. Would have hoped the window would open even just a little for fresh air at night. I think there was an air con unit in the room (didn’t try it), but I personally prefer natural air. Parking cost £7 per night (24hours). Staff were helpful . I would stay here again.

Hotel needs a refit. Room very dusty - had to buy cleaning stuff to do it myself. Air conditioning clogged with dust - constantly pumping out lumps of dust. Lift intermittent - cleaner who I asked if it was out of order rude (told me ‘Use the stairs’ even though I had 2 bags and back pack). I asked reception and left please clean room sign on door 3 times but room was never cleaned. Car park in need of resurfacing.

Overall, a great stay. The hotel isn’t pretty from the outside, but it makes up for it inside. I found the rooms to be more modern than other Mercure Hotels that I have stayed in. The breakfast was excellent. Plenty to choose from and fresh too. Great value for money and would definitely stay there again.

There is an open air parking area at the rear of the hotel. There is a flight of stairs at the rear door to get up to the main lobby floor. The lift provided there was out of order through most of my stay and my 89 year old mother had to make her way up and down the stairs. Similarly the breakfast room was a floor above the lobby and my mother had to climb the stairs up and down each morning. If there was a lift to get there, no member of staff pointed out where it was.

The only thing is the windows in the tower part of the Hotel have seen better days and really should be replaced, although with the secondary double glazing its not a big issue.

The location is great. The hotel lobby and bar area is nice and we enjoyed the view. The room has been upgraded but needs a really good clean. The carpets are heavily stained, curtains have stains on them, shower had mold in it that could easily be wiped off with a cloth and the windows are very old and covered in mold. The bed was comfortable and bedding was not bad. The double room we had for one night was tiny and the shower had mold and the carpet was stained. We then had a king premium room for 7 nights and it was a lot larger and nicer. The one robe was nice enough to use the second robe we used to cover the stained chair so we could sit on it. The fridge was handy to have for some cold drinks. The king room did have shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion and a couple extra bathroom items. The double only had shampoo and body wash.

This property is horrible. I was made to stand and buzzed for almost 7 mins before the door was opened with no apologies.For a hotel where rooms cost over £100, I expected more. I was checked a cubicle where I could hardly walk around. I bumped into the all the time.

Heating was centrally controlled and I slept in a cold room. There was no shower cream. Corridors are very narrow and you have to walk to the other end of the property to get to the reception. No telephone to contact reception, they expected guests to conact reception by WhatsApp for help.

Kettle was a bit faulty, wouldnt stay on to boil, I had to hold the button down until it boiled
There was a little balcony, however it was locked off, which is fine because i didnt pay for a balcony room. However the windows were quite dirty, so it ruined the view of looking out the window. Also with the window open, the wind whistles betweeen the plastic net rail, so i couldnt leave the window open. It was extremely loud and we couldnt leave it open. So it was quite warm in the room, there was an aircon unit, however it didnt work.
But overall was a great experience, the hotel was nice
The location is great, right on the river and in the town centre
It was a perfect for exploring days as its only a short walk to the bus or train station

We have stayed here before & could see this time that improvements have been made. Our room was spacious with a lovely view over the river. The windows clearly need replacing but that would be a huge job. Bathroom was small but the shower was good. The negative I have is that when I unrolled the non-slip mat to put down it was full of long dark hairs which was very off putting.
Breakfast was good with a good selection.

Had a lovely night here in a privilege room, Initially had to change rooms as there was a problem with a window, but the staff couldn't have been more helpful and found me another room straightaway. The room felt homely and had great views across the river and the town. The bed was so comfortable and the room was well equipped with everything we needed. The bathroom was great too. The only very small complaint was that all the windows were a bit drafty and could definitely do with updating, but everything else was fab.

I arrived at the hotel lugged my bags into the room for a three day stay on business unpacked and then tried to put my keys and other valuables in the safe. the instructions were unintelligible but it simply did not work, the manager came and could not get it to work and he offered to move me or get it repaired first thing the next morning. Rather than upheaval I elected to stay in my room. Overnight I discovered the TV did not work, the extractor in the bathroom did not work and the light in the shower intermittently went off. I reported these first thing and was told they would be done or I would be moved. The next day when I returned none of the jobs had been done and I asked to be moved, all they could offer was a room with a single bed so I declined. The second issue is if you have a ground floor room on the opposite side to the river you face a small road and car park that god knows whet goes on in as it was noisy until 1AM and then the bin lorries or whatever arrive at 5.30AM to empty the bins so not restful. on moving my bags out the lift to the car park was not working. A very tired hotel IMO. NOT A WORD OF APOLOGY FROM THE STAFF ON CHECK OUT AND NONE OF THE \"HOW WAS YOUR STAY\" questions!

A bit of a late review for this first trip, however this stay was extremely pleasant and comfortable. The only issue I had was requesting a wine glass and help with the aircon system via the reception WhatsApp, but it took so long that I decided to go to the bar and get it myself and try my best to figure the system out. Reception did manage to come about 4 hours later, but this didn’t bother me as I think it was just natural human error. Overall though, the stay was extremely comfortable and staff extremely friendly.

A few unusual issues, but overall comfortable.

I stayed here a couple of weeks ago and had a really pleasant stay, so I decided to book again. I was a little disappointed this time however, as I noticed there was a hole under the sink with a pot noodle pot wedged in to cover the plumbing, so the backing hadn’t been properly covered. There were marks on the walls, a brown stain on one of the towels and the bath filled with water quite rapidly when showering, and wasn’t draining properly. The bed was comfortable, however I did find that the heating system disturbed me during the night as there were times the heating came on, then the aircon came on. I had this issue before but I managed to work the aircon system out, so it would be a handy tip to provide guests with instructs on the heating system so that they don’t fiddle with lots of random buttons. Aside from that, the room was very clean and spacious. I did mention this to reception, and sadly was not offered compensation as I believe almost £100 for one night, only to find a pot noodle pot as a makeshift cover was a little disappointing. This will not deter me from giving the hotel another go next time.

Disappointing!!

The room itself was comfy and well laid out, however once we opened the curtains our view was of a old balcony - which was locked, which hadn't been cleaned it what seems decades. The glass partitions were smashed and the windows were absolutely filthy which was a shame as we would've had a wonderful view of the river otherwise.

We then were woken up by a fire alarm at 3am (i understand this cannot be helped) it went off for a very short time around 20 seconds, so we called the hotel on our mobile who told us this was due to a guest smoking in their room. Unsure how they managed to go to the room, investigate the cause and come back to silence the alarm within that short time frame. The fire alarm then went off again at 8am. We decided to check-out. We complained about the fire alarms upon check out the staff member stated \"ahh yes 3 o'clock someone was smoking\" i asked \"and the 8am?\" but mid-way through talking to us took a phone call on their mobile phone, put it down and hesitantly said \"yeah it's normal\" i asked for clarification whether they meant it was a routine alarm check? and they said \"ahh yeah something like that\" and picked her mobile up again to continue our call. It was awful communication and definitely added to our concerns regarding the health and safety of the hotel.

Would not feel safe staying here if there was a real fire!!

Where to start. We initially checked in and was given our room. After 3pm. However when we got to the room it was dirty and still to be cleaned after the previous occupant checked out. Stale left over Chinese takeaway included!

Eventually refused the cleaning of the room (apparently a house keeping error) and demanded an alternative room. The new room was clean and comfortable (especially the bed) but again some of the expected items were missing, including the complimentary slippers. Bath robes very crusty and uncomfortable.

Half way through are evening we returned to the room and found that my wife’s perfume was missing and there was a pile of toilet tissue in the shower! Bizarre.

Thinking the perfume had possibly been misplaced we checked again at the end of our event when we again returned to our room. We then found that a bottle of expensive wine we had left in our room had been taken and my aftershave. In total 3 stolen items.

Reported to reception first thing the following morning and after breakfast we travelled home. On arriving home the hotel called to say all 3 items had been found by housekeeping in our room! I’ll let you be the judge of whether we were incompetent and needing urgent eye tests or the items were stolen and simply the management knew how they could recover the items.

When I collected the items despite a receptionists apologies there was no concern shown by the hotel about the theft. No comment or approach by hotel management.
