The Palazzo is a very well designed spa resort in a pretty area with excellent dining options. The staff is generally friendly and very helpful and we had excellent dinners and massages. The maitre d in the restaurant in the mornings was very good natured and helpful in providing me with take out coffee for my wife who likes to stay in bed to drink her coffee. The rooms were comfortable and well designed (we stayed in a superior room on our first visit and a deluxe on our second visit) and the bathroom amenities were of good quality) The only disappointments were with the TVs in the rooms which were not smart so we could not watch Netflix on them and the pool table in the hallway which was just for show. The only minor hiccup was at check out on our second visit. I had hit on the golf range one afternoon and was told to buy tokens at the spa, which I did. Then at check out there was a charge for the tokens, rental clubs and the use of the range. I told them I had my own clubs and that I was never told that there would be a charge in addition to the tokens to use the range so we had to wait for someone from the spa to come to the front desk to settle the matter. Finally, the rental was reversed but the charge to use the range was not. It was not about the money, it just it seemed petty not to reverse the additional ten euro for use of the range after we spent a good deal of money at the resort. Regardless, it is a nice place to relax and very close to 5 stars.

A fabulous stay

It was my second time staying here and I throughly enjoyed it. The food was incredible, the rooms were lovely, clean and spacious. The majority of the staff were friendly, except the older man working behind the bar who was quite rude to my mother. The spa area was gorgeous. The grounds of the hotel were stunning. The only thing I found difficult was that there were no snacks available to buy throughout the hotel. It would be nice if there was a little coffee shop that sold patties, crisps etc. as we were really wanted something light to eat before the spa and there were only 4 sandwich options in the hotel bar. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Overall a very nice hotel deserving of a 4 star rating. Beautiful views, large rooms, ample breakfast offerings, large spa with a lot of saunas, pools, etc. Gym could use some more equipment but it’s not bad.

Parking near your room can be a challenge but it’s no more than a few hundred meters at most.

I would recommend this property.

Kicked out of the main pool area early in the morning because they were hosting a loud toga party for a work event. Loud toga party went on until late, reception kept promising it would stop in 10mins for over an hour. Not quite relaxing.

Additionally, the wedding we were attending in the event, the wedding cards were ‘misplaced’, hotel staff seen consuming wedding gifts the next day.

Incredible property. Some minor issues they have to pay attention to, like the A/C. But in summary the property and rooms (Family Room) are very good. After the first night they did not want to replace the natural water in the room, but after I made them see that it was unacceptable that in a room of more than €800 per night, they did not put water every day, they amended this issue.

The place is beautiful with amazing views and luxurious pools but the rooms have seen better days. We stayed in Il Borgo in room 214 and we paid over $300 for a night so we expected quality but the furniture was worn with scratches, the carpet had stains and the private garden that we paid extra for had not been taken care of recently. We're not complainers but we noted these issues to the reception and asked to be moved but they only offered us a room that cost $150 more per night which we thought was crazy so we stayed in the room and made it work.

We moved onto the pool area which we found to be wonderful. There are Seven different pools with different water types, sizes and temperatures. We tested them all and thought it was nice to have the option. The pool bar was simple and easy with their home grown wines and a nice assortment of snacks for aperitivo. We were one of the last to leave at 20:00 and enjoyed ourselves.

We then went to dinner at Il Grifone, their fine dining restaurant, and unfortunately it was not good. I ordered a risotto and the rice was raw. I had to send it back and that took another 20 minutes to then eat. My wife had a pasta dish that was particular and we knew that when she ordered it but it lacked flavor. They gave a discount but it was still expensive for the quality of food.

However, Aurevo saved the day with high-quality and delicious food at lunch on our second day. They had healthy and light options as well a pizza. Eat here.

We arrived at the hotel very late at night, when it was pouring rain all around and it was almost impossible to see a meter ahead. The hotel staff was very friendly and guided us over the phone regarding the best route, since the town was closed due to flooding.
The room was huge in size, very comfortable and with an adjacent well-kept garden. A real dream.

Short break as a couple.

Travelled as a couple for a short break and enjoyed the hotel and it’s facilities. Lovely hotel, gorgeous grounds worth exploring and a vast spa with heated pools, great for cooler months. The 2 restaurants that were open when we visited were both great quality and good value with friendly service.
We stayed in 2 different room types, both clean but could still do with a bit more attention to detail in terms of cleanliness and maintenance. Additionally, staff at breakfast and the front desk could be a touch friendlier though we did get amazing tips from one female member of staff at the front desk about surrounding areas.
Great hotel to visit but a bit more attention in certain areas could make it amazing.

Amazing luxury in the Italian hills near Bologna

Amazing place! Stayed there as a stopover on the way to/from Tuscany, but wish we would have stayed for the entire vacation. We booked two junior suites and one of them then got upgraded to a family room, which had two different sleeping areas. Very convenient. Great air condition and cleanliness. An exquisite spa and three restaurants on the hotel campus. Also tennis courts and paddle tennis available. Four different pools. Children only allowed in the spa area on mornings, which is nice and no problem for the kids as other pools are available.Service top of the class and food very nice and modern Italian style. Dinner at the restaurant close to the reception has an inside area with air con and an outside terrace with the most amazing view and sunset. For Italy pretty accessible on the top of a small hill, roads not too bad. We chose it due to proximity to Bologna airport, 30 minutes. Airport shuttle also available. Will definitely be back. This is one of the best hotels we ever stayed at and will be back.

Hotel and room was very nice. However the grounds outside were in need of some TLC. The labrynth was over grown and full of spider webs so we could not go through it, The garden area and walkway were also weedy and not appealing. For dinner in the spa area we were seated directly facing the sun. When asked, the staff did move an umbrella over but that only lasted about 15 min until we had to move our chairs to the sides of the table. We did notice several other guests complaining of the same thing. Reservations were requested at all restaurants but there wasn’t a lot of time slots available even when requesting in a reasonable advanced time, which is disappointing since there really was no where else to dine.

A superb location with fabulous views.

My only criticism is that whilst the resort is premium & luxurious, it’s restaurants and bars lack soul. Fortunately, it’s only a 10 min walk to a village with a lovely trattoria and vibrant local bar.

Oh, and a final comment that applies to many descriptions on Expedia. A bathroom is a room with a bath. If it only has a shower, advertise it as such.

Modern hotel with great spa. The breakfast was very poor. Have a good breakfast and guests will tell their friends. No fresh orange juice (cordial) and the scrambled eggs and bacon were always cold. Cappacino was luke warm. They charge extra for fried eggs and other bits that i was surprised at. Breakfast should always have good coffee...its Italy..the home of coffee. I have stayed in many hotels in Italy and they normally have a chef who can cook eggs, omlettes etc and this was missing. We drive while there so not the hotel is quite far from Bologna so taxis will be expensive. The Pool area and Spa are really good and the rooms are very clean and modern. I would come back once they sort out the Breakfast as its a good place to relax and unwind. The Palazzo restaurant that opens only on Friday and Saturday was also not good...much better to go to Portici (1 michelin star) and Carracci...when you pay this sort of money it needs to be good and The Palazzo restaurant was beautiful in side and presentation was good for the food..but was tasteless

Even if my room is paid in advance and late check-in is guaranteed, my room was sold to someone else. I had to drive 30-35 minutes more at 01AM to another hotel/resort via countryside roads. Relaxing spa weekend!

Great hotel, hidden on the hills, makes a serene weekend stay. Great spa, full of amenities, great breakfast buffet, and great hotel resturants. Rooms are very comfortable, nice bed, and bathroom. Take some time to walk around the property and enjoy all the views. The staff makes you feel at home, and goes out of their way to make it a pleasing stay. I can't wait to go back!

A wonderful place to stay

We had an extraordinary stay & loved every minute. We only had breakfasts at the hotel from the fantastic range that they present & chose to eat at the assortment of local restaurants in the area.

The spa was truly amazing! Many different saunas, ice available for extreme cooling, and amazing jets and jacuzzis in the pools. They have music underwater in 2 indoor pools... Very cool! FYI Europeans spas require swim caps- 3-4euro if you need one. The campus was absolutely beautiful...excellent views of the countryside! ... 1000yr +old olive trees being planted all over the campus... We were just in awe & would definaty return if fate allows!

Downside; a bit in the middle of nowhere so bring a car if you want to use it as a base.

This hotel is nothing short of spectacular. The service was brilliant the staff coild not do enough for us, the views and location is stunning and you feel miles away from anywhere yet you can be in Bolonga by train in 20 mins. The Spar was so well kept and lovely area to just do nothing. The only small criticism was that the pool bars dinner menu was quite small however there is also a gourmet restaurant which we did not get the chance to try as it was fully booked. All in all a wonderful stay and we are already planning are return trip.

More than just a hotel

The 11 days we spent at Palazzio di Varignana were really wonderful. Good food, great service and excellent facilities.

It is set on a hillside with lively views overlooking the plains around Bologna but within reach of San Marino, Imola, Forli and of course Bologna.

As a disabled person my wife was looked after fabulously.

Teppiche im Zimmer leider schon älter mit Flecken. Indoor-Spa auf 3 Stunden begrenzt und auch nicht liebevoll gestaltet, alles sehr nüchtern. Das Frühstück war eine Katastrophe! Alles Gute musste extra bezahlt werden! Keine Spiegeleier, Avocado, Omelette, paar frischen O-Saft. Preise wie in einem 5-Sterne Hotel.

Kamers te warm wegens slecht functionerende airco. Sommige mensen super vriendelijk maar vooral rond pool restaurant geen aardige mensen. Voelde je hierdoor niet welkom. Andere restaurants beter. Personeel loungebar overwegend niet gemotiveerd. Overall prima maar zeker niet zo luxe als ze zich voor willen doen. Kamer ook zeer gemiddeld.

Nous connaissions déjà ce resort et étions venus plusieurs fois avant 2020. J'ai souhaité faire une surprise à ma femme pour un grand anniversaire. Toute l'équipe a juste été fabuleuse de gentilesse, d'anticipation, d'attentions, et nous a permis de vivre un séjour réellement de rêve ! Struttura molto grande e ben curata tra le colline Bolognesi. Stanze molto confortevoli e soprattutto una bella spa dove rilassarsi. Si possono fare anche se vuoi farsi durante nel grande parco interno.
Ci sono anche tante opere d'arte sparse qua e la ed ambienti piacevoli vari.

Personalet har meget vanskeligt ved at forstå, og det skyldes ikke kun kommunikationen på fremmedsprog. Morgenmaden er på absolut laveste niveau og kun overskygget af den endnu mere ringe service. La colazione è di qualità con svariate scelte tra dolce e salato.
Ottime le piscine e la spa.
Ottima qualità delle materie prime utilizzate nei menù dei vari ristoranti del resort.
Struttura impeccabile! Beh che dire, si sta proprio bene qui al Palazzo di Varignana!

Great place, service could be better

Amazing surroundings, buildings, spa and general atmosphere. Every detail is cared for, so in general a very, very nice place. The service on the other hand, doesn't match the rest. A lot of staff to do the service, but the level of service education is lacking a lot.

Struttura grande, spazi esterni curati, camera spaziosa e silenziosa, bell'affaccio nel contesto naturale, SPA di buon livello.
Temperatura nella camera sempre troppo alta (tra i 24,5 e i 25,5 gradi), purtroppo pregiudicando il comfort e aumentando l'impatto sull'ambiente in una struttura che sembra puntare sulla sostenibilità. Segnalato più volte al personale, non c'è stato modo di trovare una soluzione in 4 notti di soggiorno... Aprendo le finestre come suggerito entravano insetti e comunque il beneficio era temporaneo.
Colazione abbondante, piuttosto industriale e ripetitiva per la parte dolce a parte marmellate e miele che producono.
Complessivamente esperienza inferiore alle mie aspettative e al prezzo pagato.

Struttura bellissima e ben curata, SPA poco affollata, camere molto funzionali e arredate con gusto, unica nota negativa al bar della piscina mi avevano addebitato un drink di benvenuto che mi era stato offerto dalla reception.

Beau resort au calme avec de belles piscines et un superbe cadre. Les chambres sont modernes et grandes. Bon accueil. On déplore la complexité pour couper clim et lumières dans la chambre. Le beau est privilégié par rapport au pratique et c’est dommage. Grands parkings et bon restos dans le complexe.

La struttura e’ unica per posizione e realizzazione
Il palazzo antico di Varignana sorge in cima e intorno si dipanano gli alloggi le piscine i ristoranti Il nucleo principale è collegato alle varie camere e appartamenti direttamente da sottoterra
Per ciò comodissimo anche in ciabatte e accappatoio le piscine
Ottimo il ristorante principale anche se un po’ costoso
Eccellente il sevizio e la qualità per la colazione
Gli altri punti ristoranti al momento erano chiusi
Buono il bar e la scelta anche di bottiglie di pregio
Le piscine stupende anche con L uscita all esterno
Passeggiate intorno al
Nucleo principale a respirare un po’ d aria pulita
Parcheggio vicinissimo alle camere
Eccellente il personale disponibile e non invasivo
