As a solo female traveller this property is safe, really clean and well maintained, the staff are super friendly and approachable. It's walking distance to cafes, beaches, near by attractions. A short drive to amazing beaches and stunning coastal walks. Safe and ample parking spots available. Would highly recommend and I will be back!

The stay was good and the service was very helpful. Just that it would have been better if we had some table in the room to place our valuables as everything had to be placed on the floor. It was quiet inconvenient. But the games room was entertaining , the kitchen was wonderful and we were not aware of the shared bathroom it was our first time booking but it was just one night and five rooms had a set of bathrooms that made it easy for us to be able to use it at our convenience. We had a enjoyable stay and safe. Thank you YHA staff and management.

Hard beds and false Queen bed

POSITIVES
-Lady at front desk was helpful and friendly with advice on things to do there
-Kitchen had good facilities

NEGATIVES
-extremely overpriced at $135 a night for me and my girlfriend.
-Bed was hard and difficult to sleep all night
-noisy with a loud droning of machinery, like a generator that could - be heard all night outside window when closed
-kitchen was meant to be closed at 1045 but 18 year olds were there talking loud and smoking at 12 midnight. Which also meant smoke was coming through my window when I had it slightly open
-paid for Queen but was given two twins hare single beds pushed together
-beds were hard and not comfortable
-wifi didn't work at all
-lifts were turned off at night. Probably to save electricity
-no one was at reception after 6pm
-poorly designed blinds in room had gaps on the sides meaning the sunlight was bright and woke me up from sunrise
-TV was unbranded and tiny at around 50cm long. Probably the smallest I've ever seen
-location far from restaurants in cowes

Best hostel stay for my trip

It was the best hostel stay for my trip as i compared it to the other 4 that i stayed in.

:Pros
- friendly staff
- towels rent available
- proper and comfortable room size, 2 double decker beds with a toilet in the room.
- only hostel that has a wall mounted heater provided.
- shared tv room and lounge available
- fully equipped kitchen with decent and proper storing area for food items.

:Cons
- self making of bed and pillow sheets
- no convenience store around the area, closes on is a 15mins drive
- night time the area surrounding the hostel is dead, no car and you are screwed (lucky I rented one), no taxi or uber avaliable as i have checked for fun so if you are hungry than your best option is to sleep thru the night.

Stayed this hostel to catch the Penguin Parade. Cheap and good hostel.

Great stay, I didn't notice it was a family hostel when I booked. Location wise, it's barely on Phillip Island, but again my fault for not researching.

The room had a queen size bed and small tv and two seat to sit on. The bathroom was nice. No fridge or air con in room but didn't affect us as it was a nice night/day.

Over priced!

We stayed in a private room with a double bed. The hostel is typical of a hostel, loud kitchens that can't be avoided and dodgee slow lifts where the stairs are often the best choice. There were little comforts and the view was of the neighboring building and you are still a fair way out from the penguin parade or the main restaurant strip. All of this would be fine if the price related. Simply this hostel milked a busy time of year to the next level. We later stayed in a 4 star resort for the same price per night. If possible avoid this place, camping would be better...

Fantastic value!

Was staying one night to attend a week end racing event at the Circuit.
After-hour checking was a breeze and well organised. The place is very clean: room, kitchen, bathroom, etc. Clean sheets and blanket provided, so no need to bring this along. Just need a bathroom towel. Very easy to get WIFI through a small fee, although it didn't work for me in the bedroom: I had to go in the canteen area. Very friendly staff.

Convenient and nice for what I required

Rarely stay in hostels but required cheap convenient accommodation for the weekend. Arrived late Thursday night and found my key card waiting for me at reception. Room was easy to locate, clean and locker space quite large. Facilities are nice consisting of a kitchen, dining, lounge and separate TV room. Other people were friendly, respectful and I felt comfortable there. Was perfect for my requirements and the cafe attached to the bottom was good for my morning coffee.

The kitchen and lounge were nice, but the rooms were quite basic. Though checkout time is 10:00 AM, the staff clearly wanted everyone checked out before this. (They started cleaning up even before I had eaten breakfast.) But, if you're in to surfing, the staff is very knowledgeable. And there is a cheap grocery store (what a rarity in this country!) just a few blocks away.

Very friendly welcome on the no-hassle check-in, brand new facilities, clean bedrooms and bathrooms. The only slight negative was the lack of free wifi (tokens were available to purchase reasonably cheaply) though granted it did encourage much more interaction between guests! The shared kitchen was very well equipped, though it got locked up at 2230ish (meaning people had nowhere to go after this time to continue socialising except their rooms - disturbing other guests in the rooms then became an issue.)

For the cost of the rooms was expecting the bed to be comfortable, I had a terrible sleep both nights... The shower didn't work on arrival although was fixed soon our return in the evening. For the cost I was assuming that we would have clean towels for our second day. We had purchased a fully self contained double room ( no kitchen), and we're very much looking forward to it. I would give the hostel another go at changing my opinion, but only if it is my only option. Please note the staff were very kind and helpful.. We didn't complain about the bed as my partner said there wouldn't be another option.

When I'd book my accomodation I'd specifically asked if the rooms had a kitchen and bathroom I was told yes, only to get there and relaize that it was a communal kitchen and bathroom shared with a bunch of backpackers, husband and I were very disappointed luckily we'd only booked it for 1 night.

Found old used tissues under the bed. Plus other rubbish around the room.
Left charger in room when we left and called soon after to report that we had left it. Staff said that they would call back next day but never heard back from them at all. Won't be staying there again! Not worth the price we paid for the room. Have stayed in better places for cheaper.

Where do I start, we understood this was a YHA building, however for what we paid for our room, the pillows were tiny and offered no support, the TV - well to place a 30cm tv in a Queen room wasn't brilliant. There were signs everywhere with minimum of $1500 fines should we drink or smoke in the rooms. To have paid $135 for a room only - not great, we paid much less at other establishments and go so much more comfort and facilities on arrival.

We were a group of 4 adults and 2 kids, they weren't able to accommodate us in a single room, so had to book 2 rooms which turned out a tad expensive. The location is ideal and close to many attractions. The hotel has good kitchen facilities and play area. The only negative is that there is no attached toilet/bathroom even in a family room.

The was pleasant enough, but very basic. There was no indication this was a YHA with lots of shared space. It was way over priced and they had the temerity to charge extra for Wifi. It was clean and tidy, but I wouldn't stay there again due to it being over-priced and them not being upfront about themselves.

the floor in the toilet was too slippery

Everything was good, but I slipped on the toilet floor after shower. In my opinion, it is not a good idea to use this kind of floor outside the shower room, because the water will go on the floor. I saw that you had some elder traveller living in your accommodation, if they slipped on your floor, it would be a problem.

A backpacker's dream.

We arrived at night, so it was a challenge to locate the hotel because it was on a side street and the hotel sign did not have lighting to identify it. The address of the hotel was not recognized by the GPS, so it kept forcing us to go to another location. Thus, we used town retailers to identify the location. It turned out that it was a hotel that catered to backpackers, which probably loved it in comparison to camping out.

Gutted to realise we had paid more per night than we had for an actual motel room elsewhere. Stayed one night and found other accommodation. Queen studio is not an accurate description to people from overseas as it sounds like a motel room which it wasn't. Old waterbed base with a mattress in it, very uncomfortable. Cold room due to concrete sued wall and very noisy due to extremely thin walls. Noise from backpackers and communal areas very frustrating. Bad night sleep :o(

Modern looking from the outside. Facilities were adequate for a basic queen room. This is a very nice backpacker facility and the room reflected this. Unfortunately I feel that the room was very expensive for what it was. The room was very, very tiny! Adequate for one night. Very clean though and had a modern feel to it. The walls are paper thin and you could hear a lot of talking at times.

My family and I checked in this hostel late at about 10.30pm after watching the Penguin Parade on 22 Dec 2013. The reception was closed and we found our key to the room in an envelope at the reception counter. All basic facilities are available and on a shared basis. We could not bath as there were no towels provided.

This is not a hotel, it is a backpacker's hostel,

The queen studio is not much more than a glorified Formula One room.
Wireless internet access NOT accessible from your room. The signal is not strong enough.
No staff around after 5.30pm.
Restaurant was not open at all. Café next door wasn't open at 7.30am.
For the price I paid, I would expect a fair bit better.

Affordable option on Philip Island

Our reception at The Island was great; the person on reception was friendly and we were given a map of the main attractions on the island, directions to things we were already planning, and suggestions of other things to see and do. There's ample on-site parking. The room (we had a private ensuite double) was bright, clean and comfortable. Wifi comes only at extra cost. The place is located just as you enter the island from the east and is easy to find, just off off the main road after the bridge. It is only a 15 minute drive to the other side of the island, to the Nobbies and Penguin Parade, and about the same up to Cowes. The on-site cafe did a really nice breakfast menu and other snacks and the communal cooking facilities (which we didn't use) were modern and looked well-equipped. Accommodation on PI isn't cheap generally, but the fact this is a hostel as well as a hotel shouldn't put you off. We had no problems here and it was very good value for the location.
