One of the housekeepers kept asking my sister and I for cigarettes and what room we were in when we were headed out for the day. We were there for my father's funeral.
Richard
Only slept there overnight. Suitable for that!
Scott
The microwave and refrigerator could not be plugged in at the same time the USB ports on the lamps did not work
Michelle
The room we had smelled so bad like wet dog! The carpet in the room was soaking wet. I guess they might have been trying to clean the carpet from the smell. The water in the shower barely had and pressure. Hotel staff were nice.
RAYMOND
Pros: price, close to highway and relatively quiet.
Cons: cleanliness was subpar. sheets were dirty, a/c unit had the most dust I've ever seen on one. Carpet and drapes had holes in them, bathroom floor was sticky. We actually went to Walmart and bought pillows instead of using the ones they provide.
Summary: If you just need a bed for the night and don't care too much about having a clean room this place will work. We will not be going back again.

The room could have been improved. The cleanliness was lacking and there was a noticeable smoky odour in the corridor. This would not be recommended for a longer stay.
William
Everything was excellent and as it should be.
Judith L
The continental breakfast left a lot to be desired! The room was very clean, but there was an old smoke smell. I’d stay there again.
Diana
Our room had a bad smell. The safe door was held shut by duct tape. It wouldn’t stay closed and would hit your legs when you walked by. Breakfast was very basic and area was small and crowded.
Mark
This is a decent cheap hotel.
Meagan
Rooms were gross. Stains all over the couch. Front desk spoke no
English. A man showed his private to my friend and her kids as she was walking down the hallway.

Sue
The whole place smelled like cigarette smoke, no elevator to second floor, took over an hour for the room to get cool enough to be in. The breakfast was just a few items and some not so good coffee.
Ellen
Pet friendly hotel off highway. Room had a very bad odor and there was hair and footprints in the bathroom. “Breakfast” was inedible.
Pamela
The room was very clean and spacious. The bed was huge and comfortable.

Room and staff were great, breakfast needs help.
Emory
Room was clean but smelled musty. Sheets and towels fresh. Staff friendly. Housekeeping always asking if we needed more towels, trash emptied or anything else. We didn't spend a lot of time in the room. Good place for sleeping. Blow dryer didn't work. Ice maker could use an upgrade.
Tricia
Front desk guy was a little grumpy. Property was definately run down, and there wasn't an elevator. Only 2 floors, but we had a lot to carry. Toilet seat wasn't screwed down at all, and I was grossed out by having to reach under there to fix it. Overall, you get what you pay for.

Victoria
Ok place to stop overnight on a road trip. Smelled of slightly stale cigarette smoke. Rooms were dated. Beds were comfortable and clean. Breakfast was very minimal and lacking. Ok for the price.
Leah
The room was clean and no complaints about that. But I asked for a handicap room bottom floor well im advance and was given some excuse about them not having a maid that day. So I told him id wai if I had to then he magically found me one (at the very end if a long hallway...but at least it was on the bottom floor). Also he didnt understand ir speak English very well it took 30 minutes to check in because of this.
Stephen
Given the price I thought the room was clean and nice for a guy and his two sons using it as a resting place after a long drive and some good hikes around the area.
Rachel
I’ve stayed at cleaner, Howard Johnson, hotels. The room was not wiped down before arrival.
The sheet seemed clean, but had holes in them.
The hallway smelled of smoke.

Room was clean, front desk staff was very friendly and efficient. We did not use the pool area so I can not comment on that. The complementary breakfast was very basic so we grabbed something from McDonalds on our way out of town.
Lisa
If I could give negative stars I would. We arrived around 8pm and were told that the hotel was oversold and we did not have a room. No attempt to contact us ahead of time was made, and when we asked for any assistance in booking another hotel we were met with a shoulder shrug. We were told to contact hotels.com, with no other help or assistance. The man at the front desk was extremely rude to me, and would only talk to my husband.
It probably was a blessing in disguise that the hotel was oversold, as the property was absolutely disgusting. The entire place was run down and filthy. If the parking lot, front doors and lobby were any indication of the rest of the hotel, you could not have paid me to stay there. Do not be fooled by the pictures on the listing, the hotel is awful.
I will never book a Howard Johnson again, this was a horrible experience.

Old property with very old carpets. As soon as you open the room the smell hits you. Everything was clean though. Breakfast was good. Staff were friendly.
Michael
Very helpful and friendly staff. Great hotel for the price.
Leona
Was as we expected for a low price one night day. No hot items for breakfast, but this was not a dealbreaker.
Dusty
Beds are very comfortable. Refrigerator with a small freezer and a microwave a huge plus.
Penny
Clean room. Bed comfortable. Close to restaurant. Coffee good in the morning.
Richard
Very nice room, plenty of space to walk our pet.
Elisabeth
staff was very helpful and even got us checked in a little early. room was nice and clean
Greta
Clean room and friendly staff!
Diana
The bed was very firm and not pleasant to sleep on. Breakfast was some cereal and toast. It was affordable and clean but not the most comfortable stay
Charles
Ac was just right
Cindy
Room was clean, but outside of room and property could use a little cleaning and TLC. Overall good for the price, but don't count on breakfast option as a plus.
Ellen
Rooms very clean and comfortable staff very friendly
Tom
This hotel will meet a one night stay and that's it. The lady that checked us in was great. The guy working on checkout was rude!
The floors were clean....the beds seemed clean but the bedding was full of burn holes and stains. Even the lamp shades had stains. Breakfast was basic, we didn't eat because we didn't need too. The halls on the 2nd floor stunk like smoke very badly. I guess you guess you get what you pay for.

Met all our needs for a quick stop passing through on way to OBX.
Troy
Nice rooms, affordable and right down the road from my favorite coffee cafe
Julia
Front staff were amazing at check in but my room smelled like smoke and I could hear every noise above and around me. The breakfast was very minimal, but we took that into consideration when booking as the price was competitive. I didn’t feel like the higher rating on Hotels.com reflected our experience.
Zhaofang
Very good for the price
Steve
This is a nice comfortable hotel and a great value beds were good amenities were good TVs were nice there was very little though for outdoor areas the pool was not too exciting. The breakfast was Bare Bones but for the money it was still a good value I would recommend it
Deborah
During my overnight stay, I found the accommodations to be clean, quiet, and comfortable. I will stay there again.
Karen
Clean air conditioning friendly
Richard
We thoroughly enjoyed both of our stays at the hotel. The only issue that could use some work is the variety of items available for the breakfast.
MARILYN
Very clean, nice value
Peggy
The check in was easy and quick. The staff was friendly. The room could have been cleaner, specifically in the bathroom under the sink area.
Charlene
A great pick if only staying a night for travel. Breakfast was nothing fancy but ok. No hot food just cereal and pastries.
Michael
Ok
Dawn
Property was about what I expected. Room was clean. No coffee offered in room. Not enough towels for 4 people. Guy who checked us in not dressed very professionally. Some T-Shirt, and a ball cap 🙄not very pleasant or welcoming either. No elevator so had to drag all of our luggage upstairs. No mention of what time breakfast was available. No mention of pool hours.
On the upside, beds weren’t terrible. Pillows were AWFUL,
Was good enough to sleep for the night, but that’s about it. Was clean. That’s about it

Room was large and nice and clean. Grounds were grassy, great for traveling with dog.

I got a great deal on Expedia (under $70) for a very clean and comfortable room. The desk clerk was helpful. The room was quiet. It was a very good stay at a great price.
Hussam
Clean and budget friendly
Hussam

Michael
A/c and heater unit didnt work 1st night, easy access to food establishments, as a former resident in the town, there's nothing g to do. 2nd night I rebooked a room there and had to look a a extended stay hotel so oh welll
Phillip
Great staff!!!
Raymond
The room was nice except the shower only, no bathtub. Breakfast was weak.
cassie
Property was clean and beds were comfortable. However, the pillow were sh*t. I piled all 3 pillows up to sleep and still couldn't elevate my head. Also, the lack of breakfast options was PATHETIC! I know it says \"continental,\" but it was so pitiful, the hotel should've even offer anything. You had 2 types of cereal, some instand oatmeal, green apples, yogurt and some slices of bread with butter. 1 single gallon of milk in the little cooler. Another thing I noticed, were the multiple signs posted up front about guests from 2 specific hotels on either side of this one that were prohibited from being on the premises. I found this odd and made me feel slightly unsafe. I definitely would not stay here again, especially with the high price and severe lack of....well.....everything.
William
Staff was helpful

Could Have Been Better
Front desk staff acted like it was a burden for me to check in. My kids feet were black mins after a shower. Ants everywhere. Only highlight was the bed being comfy and clean.
Michael
There is a CVS and a bar across the street but some restaurants 2-3 min drive away. Friendly staff.
Trista
The room was good it wasn’t in the best area & the pool was really small.
Kimberly
Pool was small! Toilet lid broken, hair dryer didn't work, bed sheets and towels had stains. I had to ask for more towels because they gave us 2 towels for 3 people. We never received fresh towels. Bed was hard as a rock and pillows were flat. It was nively located to food but hard to get out of at night due to evening traffic.
Janitza
It was a pleasant comfortable experience after traveling for so long.
Lauren
We had points to use or we would not have stayed at the hotel. I got it for $35 a night and I wouldn’t have wanted to pay any more for the facility. It was one of the older hotels I’ve stayed in. There were no bugs or anything like that thankfully, just an old hotel in a small town.
Johnny
Room was reserved but someone else was in there had to be given a different room
Lisa
Run down everywhere except the sheets. Top blanket had a red/brown drop stains. Bathroom is chipping away and the tub is worn. The mirror in the room was cracked in the corner really large. Wasnt the worst. But it was sketchy for sure.
Peyton
Felt really unsafe. Super sketchy area and tons of people loitering in front of the building. Halls were noisy at night. Bed and room were acceptably clean besides one bug. Was tolerable for an overnight stay for the price but would be awful for anything longer
Sarah
Everyone was so friendly and courteous. I recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a place to stay in beckley
Jon
Easy access clean an friendly
Scott
Got what we expected for the price. Quick overnight while traveling I would book again.
Megha
Staff is friendly.
Linda
Comfortable beds and very clean room!
william
Good stay.
Stacey
Me, my fiance and baby traveled from North Carolina visiting a friend. We booked the room online so we’re not familiar with the area. Upon arrival there were sketchy individuals that we were not sure about and it almost made us not want to stay. The room was decent and average. The coffee from the breakfast area was disappointing and the beds were not that great. The outdoor pool was not much of a pool at all but more like a big tub with water in it! The surrounding town was very poor and sketchy looking but we managed not to hang out at the hotel for very long. Basically was just a place to sleep at night. Would recommend for a single individual that’s traveling and just needs to rest but not for a family looking to vacation or relax. The maids walked around knocking on doors from 7am to 9am to ensure everyone was getting out even though check out was at 11am. Made us feel like we couldn’t sleep in or take our time leaving. This hotel has a second floor which you can hear every foot stomping around. Sounded like a herd of elephants and made it very noisy to be able to sleep in at all. The tap water smelled like straight chlorine which must be a WV thing. The lady at the front desk was very nice and checked us in quickly.
Andrea
Very convenient
Debbie
Employees were wonderful. Room was clean.
Amanda
Front desk was awesome room was clean. Bathroom had a pee like smell kinda like a cat or dog and floor was sticky.
James
There was no problem
CHRISTY
Hotel was clean and quiet. No elevator, so be prepared for that. Pool closes really early at 9 pm. Price was reasonable. The breakfast wasnt really anything and coffee was terrible. I feel guilty complaining about that because price was so fair. Ihop across the street. Nice people at front desk.
Rachel
When I got to my room, I noticed the fridge was not cleaned out. There was a drink and some candy in it. The carpet was a little damp near the bathroom. The next morning when I went to get in the shower, I noticed the shower curtain was missing. Thankfully, the person at the front desk remedied that right away. Also, breakfast is very minimal (cereal, bread to toast, yogurt, wrapped coffee cake). Not an ideal breakfast if you're going hiking that day.
Szymon
Clean, friendly staff
Kathryn
Clean and quiet! Plus well- located. We would stay here again.
Bethanna
