Rooms are very out dated and in serious need of some attention. The first room was horrible and really basic. Carpets were almost thread bare and you could feel and hear the bed springs when you sat in the bed. Asked to move rooms and the receptionist was lovely and moved us into a suite which was slightly better but the bath had horrible stains in it that made it look dirty. We over looked the Main Street and the Town Hall where the clock chimes every 15 mins. Not good if you’re a light sleeper. Continental breakfast wasn’t very nice either. Staff very nice and welcoming but certainly won’t be staying here again

The Hotel was 'tired'. There was thick dust on the light fittings,on the walls, there was no main light on the ceiling so I couldn't see as I have vision problems. the bathroom was falling apart, it was cold and I asked for a disabled shower room, ground floor & although I had an email confirmation, They had no ground floor rooms or lifts & we had a bath in the room. I can't get in baths. We had to carry my stroller upstairs & I had to struggle up them. The staff member was neither happy, helpful or apologetic and hardly spoke. The food was cheaply made but expensive. It was really noisy. The room was big but it had vinyl walls & the decor didn't match. It looked like it hadn't been done up since the 60's. It was nice to see the family but we won't be staying again. The whole place needs an overhaul. I was not happy.

This is a very old building and while some areas have been refurbed, others have not. Our stay was in one of the tired rooms (207).
Squeaky floorboards, mattress past its use by date, furniture very dated and cheap.

We have stayed at the Lansdowne Strand before, and like the hotel and its location. The Arkell's beer (a favourite) is well kept.
The only disappointment this time was that we arrived back at 10 past 10 in the evening to find the bar closed, even to residents. A shame, as one of the reasons for choosing the hotel was the splendid pint of Arkell's (see above).

Public rooms were very good, the staff seemed a little pre occupied with each other. The bedrooms whilst clean and with good bedding were a little tired especially the bathroom. We still enjoyed our stay and would return. I did feel that it was over priced and breakfast was average.

On arrival i think the lass was called hannah, service was polite and a quick check in, asked about parking and was shown where it was located, later asked for a refill of milk for the room and hannah also checked if id managed to park and was there anything else needed. She coulsnt have been more helpful

Charming Boutique Hotel in Calne

The Landsdowne is a delightful boutique hotel of historic significance that is welcoming and in the heart of town centre. Hannah was informative and helpful - always there to answer questions and make sure service was on point. The dining was superb! We will definitely return when in Calne.

The hotel was lovely and a good location. Staff were friendly and downstairs in the bar area was clean and decor lovely.
Negatives was our room 209
Big crack in ceiling, headboard was loose. Bathroom floor has stains on the flooring.
Terrible smell from the back of the toilet, stains in the bottom of the toilet.
The whole room needs to be refurbished.
Poor breakfast not even a pastry. No knives and had to ask for a plate.
Not worth what we paid, shame as it is my husband hometown and we were visiting.

Not a “hotel” but more like a pub with rooms. However the room was great but could do with aircon not just a small fan. Shower had plenty of pressure and bed was very comfortable with good pillows. The smart tv was a plus allowing me to watch Netflix and YouTube. Not a massive fan of continental breakfasts but there’s was ok. Plenty shops, supermarket and takeaways nearby.

Very charming and friendly!

Very charming hotel with a lively vintage vibe and an excellent restaurant. The room and general interior seemed tired, but everything was very clean and smelled lovely. The courtyard beer garden is very characterful! The staff were all young and cheerful and the food was phenomenal! Do go for their recommendation of house beers - Arkell's Brewery, very good brew. My partner and I often go for short city breaks and recently decided to steer clear of AirBnB for ethical reasons and seek out local hotels and alternative accommodation. The room at the Lansdowne Hotel was very affordable and comfortable, and our whole stay well rounded!

Old World Charm

Stayed here before as hotel choice in Calne is limited. No hotel car park. Pay and display carpark within 1 minute's walk. It's possible to load/unload outside main entrance.
Building is old coach house and oozes old-world charm.
Decoration in public rooms is good, but at the expense of upstairs rooms, which are \"tired\". Rooms have good and bad points:
Comfortable king sized bed, single glazed windows. T.v. and good beverage facility but noisy macerating toilet (don't flush at night!).
I didn't have a meal, so unable to comment on food. The staff are friendly and helpful.
It's fine for a short stay, but you may wish to consider a chain hotel.

The hotel was ok, and quite cheap but it is tired and in need of some renovation in the accommodation area, in particular - my room was ok but quite scruffy - decoration was not well done - damage to the walls not repaired- some of the plumbing appeared to have been installed by an untalented DIY enthusiast. The hotel is located on a main road and the traffic noise was an issue in the morning, despite efforts to improve the glazing of the original sash windows by installing a secondary glass panel. The staff varied from friendly to disinterested. The hotel served the purpose of my visit to the area - needed to be low budget but I will look elsewhere for my next stay in the area. I guess I got what I paid for.

Nice hotel, comfy room but quite dark, nowhere to do makeup. Noisy from the street but expected that. Breakfast a little unimpressive and staff not the most attentive, just left to sort yourself out. Very dated room in much need of a makeover but bed was comfortable and shower was good.

Staff very busy when i arrived so had quite a waut befire i could check in. Staff shortage? Room was comfortable, eveni g meal in the restaurant (fish&chips) was very good and reasonably priced. Buffet breakfast worked well but under the table on sunday morning was a right mess, not been cleaned from the night before? Another sign of staff shortages? This is an old proprty, so perfection in decir etc is not going to hapoen.

I stay at thr Landsdowne fairly frequently, this room was one of my faves. Room 234 was quiet due to being in a separate space to that of the main hotel.

Only negative was that the pillows were quite flat, moreso than any other room I have stayed in.

The continental breakfast is just the job with crossiants, cereals, crunpeys, toast, yogurt, and much more.

Old Coach house style B&B, stone walls and uneven creaking corridors all form part of the charm of this building.
Large bar and restaurant area and a courtyard with tables and parasols.

The room was big but afraid needed sone tlc haning coofee stains that hace ground in on the table kettle needed descaling some wall paper even over the snug bar area needed attention these details reflect on the ratings. My partner had decaf coffee in the day but at brrakfast was told we dont have decaf? Also we paid for a room with free breakfast again told by staff wheh booking in we coukd have a cooked breakfast pay a litte more as we had a free breakfast but ended up paying full price for it. Even if we had a continental there was no pastries just yogurt/fruit flapjack..

It was ok. The room was tired. It was at the front, not a problem but very thin curtains which did not block the light or muffle the noise. The duvet was too lightweight and I was cold.
The breakfast, although included, was rubbish. The coffee was weak and tasteless. The pastries etc were of very poor quality.
On the plus side my room was big. The hotel is well situated.
The staff did seem a little grumpy.

This is a smart and good value for money place to rest for a night. First impressions of the room were great, but on closer inspection some signs of age and the need for some TLC on things like old rotting window frames, and a mirror that is past its best above the sink. However, the twin beds were comfortable, TV worked fine and there was a kettle with milk, tea, coffee and sugar in the room. The breakfast included was not hot but included options for everyone.

I actually loved the hotel and the staff were wonderful... The construction immediately outside of our room windows was horribly noisy and woke us both mornings. There were broken tiles in the shower that were shifty and should be repaired. I did, however, love our room, the dining rooms and sitting areas. Very peaceful. The staff were all wonderful and very helpful. Will surely return for another stay.

Convenience couldn't have been better for the town. The bar/restaurant was really pleasant. Reception/bar staff really friendly. Room was a little shabby around the edges, mouldy shower curtain, very small double bed, only one bedside lamp which was not working. Good quality teas and coffees in the room as were the toiletries.

Lovely old hotel, but in need of an update. Bed comfortable .Not enough sockets for phone charging , using kettle & having bedside light on.
No extractor fan in bathroom unless light on & then poor.
Didn't dine there, next door, great. Only Continental Breakfast available, poor choice, lukewarm coffee, water for tea, not hot. Amazed that at 8;10am mopping floors in progress in breakfast area.Hazardous. Tea & Coffee making in bedroom excellent WITH BISCUITS. Free Shampoo & Conditioner AND a complimentary bottle of local beer in room! No parking, hunt around & don't lose space by driving out for dinner.

Poor start but got much better

Finding a parking space took a few trips around the block.
We stood at the check-in desk (left hand side of the bar) for 5 minutes before somebody came to see us.
During this time various bar staff came and went but never acknowledged us. One male staff member spent a good two minutes chatting to a waitress but in that time never made eye contact with us. I know they do not do the checking-in but a \"somebody will be with you soon\" would have been appreciated.
The room was large and quite smart. Massive walk in shower (no bath). The room was so big the TV appeared smaller than my phone screen!
The highlight of the stay was the evening food. Both meals were very good. Continental breakfast was also good.
Would happily stop here again if needed to.

On arrival we were told the restaurant was closed so there was no food for the evening. We were advised to try the local amenities. Unable to charge drinks to our room or even set up a tab. In the morning, the cold tap didn't work in the shower, leaving me with a scorching, hot shower. Arriving to breakfast to find it is a continental breakfast and a rude abrupt \"No\" simple question is there anything hot? Staff were also very rude when asking where the water is and can i have some \"well you should have said cold water in a glass\"
Over all the hotel is lovely looking old building with terrible attitude towards customers zero customer care and zero consideration. not one person asked us how we were or how our stay was. it was more like come in and get out. I would rather stay in a Travelodge on the M4.

This used to be a lovely property with friendly staff and great service. Shame it has gone downhill. Bed was comfy but didn't appreciate having to ask for everything at breakfast as things had run out eg coffee, butter, crumpets and why they put the continental meat and cheese selection (well a piece of cheese, 1 x salami slice and an offcut of ham) on a plate with clingfilm so everything sweated I have no idea...
Used to use this place a lot for the team but remembered why we avoid it now!

Hotel looked lovely from the outside however the bedrooms need some repairs (and I thought we were in a refurbished room!!). The “crackling fires” as stated on the hotel website weren’t lit and the reception/bars felt cold. Luckily the rooms were lovely and warm. However the room we stayed in had a problem with the macerator which was horrendously noisy and went off throughout the night leaving us with disturbed sleep. The room felt dirty and we put our suit bag on top of the wardrobe and it got caked in dirt. Bar meal and service was very pleasant. Morning reception wasn’t very cheerful and quite unwelcoming for breakfast however the lady who was cleaning was very nice and welcoming. Overall a disappointing stay considering we’d book d to spend time with family who live local and would probably have returned

Good value.

We only stayed 1 night but we received a warm welcome when we arrived. Our room was very pleasant. There were signs of wear and tear a part of tge ceiling appeared damaged and wallpaper was pealing away from the wall in places. None of these things prevented us from having a good sleep. Some of our neighbours were less than considerate noise wise. The breakfast was good. We were offered cereals, yogurts, croissants, banana bread, toast and crumpets so plenty. We definitely got value for money.

Ideal for middle aged couple for 1 night b and b

We travelled from Derbyshire to visit family in nearby Lyneham. This place was the ideal location for a one night b and b. I think we got a free room upgrade and our room was bigger and nicer than many 4 star hotels that weve stayed in. Could have done with the hotel bar staying open as it closed after we had checked in at 7pm, but better that than pub noise til midnight, i I suppose. We will definitely be staying here again.

It was hard to get seen by staff.
The continental breakfast had limited variety.
The hotel is pretty from afar but when you get into your room you see damaged walls, sockets, dirt everywhere, shower leaking, shelf hanging off the wall and I paid for two double rooms but the sizing was very different in both. Also the tea and coffee tray in the room was abysmal, the choice wasn’t great and quality also not very good.
