Butlers Townhouse; a 20 bedroomed boutique townhouse which offers luxury and style, in an intimate and beautifully elegant setting. Located in the heart of Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 directly opposite the Aviva Stadium – situated on the corner of Lansdowne Road and Shelbourne Road, a 5 minute walk from the DART Station, a 15 minute walk from RDS, a 25 minute walk from the 3 Arena and a 15 minutes walk from the Grand Canal Theatre.
You have every amenity you need on your doorstep, and every luxury you can imagine on the other side of that door at Butlers. In 1995, the then owners set about the task of restoring a derelict building in the heart of Ballsbridge Dublin 4 to its former glory as an exclusive property.
After almost two years of extensive renovations, the result was Butlers Town House, one of Dublin's finest small luxury townhouses. The previous owners played a crucial part in the re-design and reconstruction of the building.
Affirming the atmosphere of a private home, the 20 uniquely designed bedrooms offer the guest a unique taste of Victorian life. The lavish Drawing Room, with its coved ceiling, delicate decor and oversized chairs create a ‘Private Club' atmosphere, whilst the Conservatory Restaurant offers a gourmet breakfast daily.
Every last detail was considered, designed and decorated to the highest standard; to conjure up a stunning, unforgettable, beautifully elegant property. The current owners and management have taken special care to keeping with the old, and so honouring the history, whilst maintaining the renowned style and elegance.

Great stay, close to a station so easy transport into the city centre. Staff were brilliant, allowed us to leave luggage when we arrived early. Room was clean however was one beer can that had been left behind a bed. Decor is quite outdated. Beds were comfy.

Clean room, small bedroom, bathroom, and sitting room is what you get. 15 minutes from Temp;e bar area, across the street from the arena. Food near by and a great spa Eden One with pools, hot tub, gym and massages for purchase. There was staff in the first floor lounge and he got us a cab and gave us his number if we needed anything. He was super helpful.

Stayed for 3 nights, superb stay and fantastic location. Within spitting distance of the metro station and a few bus stops, so super easy to travel around. Few pubs, restaurants and shops close by. The staff were very accommodating and I’d be more than happy to stay here again in the future

Easy to find, tho difficult to get parked as we were there for an international rugby match. Nearest car park a good 15 minutes walk away. Normally, I suspect you'd get parked on the metered street.

I loved the place, it was so different. I have stayed in Dublin 2 before and this time I found this place and enjoyed the place. People who work there were super friendly and helpfu. The area was great and very easy to walk to trinity college and city center without being right there. It was 3 min walk to the DART green line as well. The area is one of the wealthiest neighborhoods so it’s super safe as well.

I am absolutely stunned this has negative reviews, I can only assume the hotel has once again come under new management. Luke was absolutely amazing and extremely available throughout the entirety of our stay, always met us at the door to wish us a good day and even let us drop off our bags early when we arrived to early to check in.
The room was spotless and had clearly been cleaned prior to check in. Facilities were everything you need, and the beds were comfy. TV was a bit spotty, but what are you doing coming to Dublin and watching the telly?
Conveniently located, comfy, warm, well equipped and a cheaper place to stay- which is welcome in such a pricey city.

The room was a cozy, clean, restful oasis. Being an older boutique property the rooms have quirks but are so lovely. The staff, particularly Luke is incredobly hospitable and friendly. As a solo travler it made the trip so much more fun and easy. My stay was 100% better because of his help. Also kudos to Wei (who despite shyness about his english, was a hero when i needed it.)

My main concerns with the room were lighting--too dim, and the ice cold shower I had that was punctuated by brief blasts of scalding hot water. The room itself was lovely and quiet, and the bed was by far the most comfortable and inviting of all the places I stayed on this trip. The host was very friendly and helpful.

Butler Townhouse was well located for this part of Dublin with easy bus access into downtown. The entry procedure was complicated yet could have been easily accessible. The decor was quite dated in our room and unbalanced. It was a quirky, unique experience.

We stayed here for one night to attend a concert. Personally, this isn’t a four star hotel for me. On arrival we were lucky enough to get parked in the drive, two spaces there and metered parking on the street outside. The front of the building looks unkempt and overgrown.

Bathroom was modern with good shower. Kettle and coffee machines with tea coffee etc available.

Butlers Townhouse worked out pretty good... less expensive than the other places in Dublin and close to my friends and Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 (including Aviva Stadium). They operate a little differently and don't have a typical Front Desk. Once you figure that out, it was easy to come and go. There is coffee in the room which is nice and TV. Very simple.

When i Finally got my own room it was absolutely Freezing. Cold Air Conditioning had been left on & the room was ice cold. Temperature control did not work on it so it was impossible to heat the freezinv room. No portable heater in the room & no central heating. Eventually the lad on reception gave me an old electric heater which was useless.
Took me over an hour to sleeve due to the cold. No hot water in the sink either. Same socket for the lamp as the tv. Dirty old chair, dirty old carpet. Visible dirt on the walls. A Dreadful experience

Room was a strange one, a converted basement it seemed to me. It was freezing and the air con was so far away from bed it hadn’t much effect. There was a small mobile heater left in the room so they were aware of this obviously.

It is made in an interesting style that takes you back many years. Unfortunately, it is not well maintained. There were some details that need to be fixed. Stained paint, water dripped from the lamp in the bathroom on the last day. Also, when I wanted to leave my suitcase a few hours earlier, you wrote to me that I could do it. The receptionist told me that she could not. When I showed her the email from you, she agreed that it was possible

We stayed here to attend a game at Aviva stadium. Perfect location. Rooms clean and quaint. Easy walk to train station that takes you into city or further. Very happy with our stay.

The renovation of this property has been well done, however they have missed a few marks. 1. The self check in did not go well We did not receive the proper emails to get into the building. 2. One of the better rooms with a beautiful bed had a back garden full of rubbish. Another premium room that we had did not have in room heating and although we reported the remote malfunction for the ceiling A/C nothing was ever resolved and we used a space heater. Neither coffee maker worked properly and only one kettle worked. Pillows in one room were lovely but in the other, they could not be described as a cushion. I would stay again only if they can work out the bugs in their proceses

There are no staff other than cleaning staff. The entire place is electronic. It’s actually really easy. The biggest thing is there aren’t many restaurants close by for breakfast. Dinner choices are a bit better but still a little bit of a walk. Be prepared to walk or take cabs if you stay here.

Hotel is old and needs to be renovated. Carpet needs to be ripped out. Smells musty and damp. Mattress was old. Reserved a king size bed and got a queen size. Conveniently located near the Aviva stadium and shower has amazing pressure. But overall was not impressed especially with how much the room cost.

This is a nice enough place, but I have to mark it down quite a bit because of service issues. Because the owners want to run it with no front desk and minimal staff, they say that they will email the codes required to get into the building and room. Fair enough. The problem is that they use Expedia to send those messages, which creates an unnecessary delay. Check-in time was 2pm, and I did not receive the email with the codes until nearly 8pm. We were forced to simply show up at 2pm and demand to be let into our room. To make matters worse, the person I dealt with refused to acknowledge that such a thing was even possible, implying that the fault was with me. The solution would have been simple: rather than going through Expedia, email me directly! I know they had my email address because they did use if for a separate correspondence about leaving bags there. That was also a source of frustration. One person said that it would be fine to leave bags in their lobby area. Another said no, it would not be, and recommended another place quite a distance away. When we arrived, we noticed a sign in the lobby saying that not only can you not leave any luggage there but that \"any luggage found lying around the property will be left at owners risk and will be removed.\" Yikes! Removed to where? And what will be done with it? Whoever runs this place needs to go back to hotel management school.

I honestly cannot recommend this place. We have only stayed for 1 night, however the whole property kind of felt dated, or just simply old. Our room felt damp, whenever I stepped onto the carpet, it felt like I could feel the last 20 years in it with every step. It was rather cold and just had a certain damp feel to it with what felt like mold being in the air and the walls.
Maybe we just got unlucky with our room, but when booking a Superior room, I didn't expect going below ground level with what seemed like a backyard view of the property's dumpsters. I actually looked at the pictures of the room now before writing this review and the pictures do not really match the reality. While they are not necessarily wrong, they make the rooms look much better than they actually are.

Overall okay stay. Room was nice and clean. Very weird vibe though. We weren’t given an access code to get into the main door. After 20 minutes of waiting, we found a way to contact someone inside. They seemed annoyed we were there. While sitting in the main room, new guests came and asked us how to get into their room and where the staff were. We were happy to help but think they would have had a better system of signage; just something. On top of this, Someone tried to get into our door at 11pm which isn’t something anyone wants to experience. You really get what you pay for, maybe a little less. Not coming back here.

The room was adequate but the furnishings and the room was dusty with cobwebs. Bathroom was clean and the beds were good. It would make sense to put a number directory next to the phone was patrons staying at the hotel in case front desk needs to be called. Also the instructions at the front door not very clear, we spent a good 20mins entering all sorts of invoice details thinking it's the code as it asks for code to be put in initially which is very misdirecting. Furthermore, the hotel needs to adjust their advert on Expedia to state that the payment when reserved to pay at property is in fact an online payment NOT a card payment as the post suggests. Despite this, the closeness to the public transport and the 30-40mins walk to city was worth it.

We had a rather negative experience at the Butler's Townhouse. Absolutely zero service. Half of the curtain was missing for the entire 3 day stay. We contacted management on the first day and every day thereafter. They said they would send someone to fix the curtain. They never did. We ran out of toilet paper because they don't do room service unless you ask for it. There is a convenience store down the road where one probably could buy TP, but it was closed. Quite a bit of street noise, especially with no curtain to help block it. On the plus side, great location. Just a few blocks to Ballsbridge pubs, restaurants and shops. Beds comfortable and clean. Bathroom and shower fine. Clean and neat, except for the curtain laying on the floor. Did I mention zero service and responsiveness?

Check in process was a bit difficult due to unclear communication and a delay in the messages from staff to me through Expedia. The room was missing toilet paper upon my arrival, smelled musty like mold, and the ac was not working properly. I do not think the money you spend to stay here matches the value of the property.

There was nothing technically 'wrong' with the property. The thick carpet in the bedrooms was a little less than pleasing. Carpeting is hard to keep clean and distracted from an otherwise decent room.
For someone without a phone data plan in Europe the self-check in was a little challenging as without Wifi one is unable to check messages and get the necessary check-in information. Thankfully there was someone in the office to assist. I was grateful for this.

Definitely not a “hotel” as advertised and more of a guesthouse. Not much in the way of reception, no keycards for doors (it’s a 4 digit code), and no safety/bolt locks on the doors.

Definitely an older building but also a cool experience. Feels like you’re in a home. The room was clean and had everything we needed. It is close to the train so easy to get down to the centre of Dublin. There is a self check in and check out so that make it’s convenient. Would stay again.

Stayed here for four nights on a wonderful trip to Dublin. Nice lobby and welcome room. Clean sheets, clean bathroom, comfortable bed. Clean, safe, quiet area of town. Grocery store and convenience market within 10 minute walk. 25 minute walk to downtown Dublin or 5 minute walk to local commuter rail. I usually walked, as the weather was wonderful for the entirety of my trip. Would recommend and would stay again.

Every time I arrived I had to call to get a new pass code for main entrance and for my room! The entrance steps are dirty and littered with cigarette butts and plastic cups holding some more... the room smelt musky and once that musky scent was gone, I could smell cigarette smoke. I was woken up at 7:30am by room service knocking on my door to see if I was gone yet! Staff: I had interaction over the intercom to get passcodes, and there was a nice gentleman in the basement at bottom of stairs who said hello - not a receptionist or welcoming staff. This is definitely not a place I would stay at or recommend in future.

Stayed here for a concert in Avivia, and location is perfect, just around the corner. It is not quite what the picture advertise it as, perhaps much older in decor etc, but it was clean and comfortable and would happily stay here again.

This place is good for short stays in Dublin, it is a self check in self checkout system. The bed linens and towels were all nice and clean. The building is very old and the rooms are kind of small and rundown except for the beds. The sink in the bathroom had separate faucets for hot water and cold water– Very old style, I suppose – and there was no way that you could mix the two!! There is no key or card to enter the rooms. It is a finger touch & code system. It happened that one night it didn’t work for us and we had to wait for a while, very late at night, until somebody would come and change the battery.

Not a great experience, mattress was so uncomfortable which was not ideal after a flight in and wanting to go straight to bed. Pillows were so thin and no service available to ask for extra pillows. We hardly slept and for the amount we paid it was a big disappointment.
