DON’T STAY HERE!!!
Very unsafe neighbourhood. No complimentary transfers available as car was broken. Front security gate was broken. Location is not three minutes from the airport as it claims to be. No way this is a four star place.
Room door only has a glass door with a flimsy internal door lock. Man tried to enter our room. We arrived, had a look and left after 5 minutes to a safer environment. Please don’t be fooled by the pretty pictures and convenient options on the Expedia listing. I strongly advise you not to stay here. I was shocked and quite afraid.

The freeway was right down the street from the hotel, not a nice neighborhood, sirens all night. Dump trucks, horns blowing, airplanes overhead all night, flies in the room. Would not ever stay again.

One to Avoid

The lodge is located in a dodgy area. We did not feel safe and there was loud music from neighbouring businesses. We were disturbed by loud talking and noise from adjoining rooms. It is run down and needs maintenance. The pool was not clean, the carpets tired and dirty. The DStv program bouquet is very limited and there were no guest supplies other than liquid soap. The bathroom was spacious and clean, but the towels were old and frayed. The pillows were past their useful life. The curtains were opaque and in poor repair. The shuttle service to the airport was excellent. This is not a keeper for us and we were disappointed that Hotels.com carries properties like this one on its books.

The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The atmosphere is casual.
At this time there is no lunch or dinner service. The breakfast options are limited but it is easy for vegetarians to have a good breakfast.
There is a continuing problem with \"power shedding\" in Johannesberg. This occured at least twice a day. At this time, the property has to use a generator for power which ensures there is power to, keep the lights on. so to speak. Unfortunately, there is no internet at this time.
They have a vehicle with driver who was available to take us to and from the airport, or out for a meal.
The area was quiet except for the fact, it was under the flight path of planes taking off.
We thoroughly enjoyed out stay here.

Ohhh, this place is SO FANTASTIC!! The way it's set up made me feel like my safari had already begun...in the middle of Johannesburg and close to the airport!!! I love everything about it, the friendly staff, the 24 hour coffee set up, the bungalow-type rooms. I stayed there twice, and if I ever go to SA again, there's no other place I'd stay!! Highly, highly recommended!!!

This place is so fantastic! It's just as great as the photos make it seem! Before a safari in Kruger, I stayed in a regular room, and after the safari I stayed in the log cabin! Try to get the log cabin if you can!! Everyone is very friendly, and it's got all mod cons! Highly recommended!!

I love this lodge for many reasons: they are always prompt on picking me up at the airport and transporting me back to catch my continued flights. They communicate so well- constantly in touch via whats app and are quick to respond to questions or needs. The lodge has beautiful grounds and a lovely picnic area on the lawn. I wished the shower was cleaner and that there the room included soap and shampoo. Overall, I would go back again and recommend my friends.

Misleading information

The pix on the site is nothing what the rooms looks like. Is smells damp and has a \"sink dak\" which is not what you would expect from a guest lodge. the parking for your car was next to a rubbish site with no security. In fact we never even checked in due to the misleading information given to us. I will never recommend this to anyone.

Convenient for Johannesburg International Airport ... only a few minutes by free shuttle. Great pick up & drop off. Really nice lodge. Good pool and really nice to chill out for a few hours. You get noise from ✈️, which you should expect being so close to the airport. Really good breakfast and an excellent evening meal (Limited choices available when we stayed). A really nice touch is the free tea and coffee in the bar. I would highly recommend for a short stay near the airport.

The shuttle service was on time both from and to the airport. That was the end of positives. There is no AC in the rooms. It was hot as an oven when we checked in. There was no fan. After asking for one, it arrived about 20 minutes later. It was a bare bone room with nothing but towels, and 3 beds with bedding. The shower had two bottles whose titles worn out. No idea what was what. The \"restaurant\" was an abomination. The chef/server did not know what kind of lettuce was in the Green Salad. She made a cup out of her hand and said, \"This kind\". We left and went next door to Tin Goose which is a reasonable restaurant. However, the corner through which you have to pass through is a \"working girls' corner\" (Red Light district) after dark. We did not feel safe at all walking back albeit less than 200 meters. We will never stay here again. Wifi worked.

Overnight stays near airport

A good small hotel very fairly priced near airport. Stayed on 3 occasions overnight prior to next day flights and twice plane takeoffs/landings very noisy but other time very acceptable. Friendly staff, good breakfast and can provide dinner with limited menu but well prepared and good price.
Overall excellent value for budget conscious travellers.

The property is a gem. Outside is a little rough but the gates are very secure and it is very close to the airport. Free shuttles and full breakfast along with free coffee, tea and smiles all day long make this lodge the ideal place to begin or end your South Africa adventures. And they do tours to places like Pilansburgh and Sun City!

Had to give less than positive report re emenities because the wifi was down. I had several urgent things to do online and since I'm in transit I didn't have a sim card/data. But one of the staff offered to go out and get me a sim card and data ... at 8:00pm. That was lovely! They made an effort to find a solution to my problem. Thank you. I will book with Aero again in the future.

The staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful. They arranged airport pickup and drop off for me, allowed me to leave my bags without extra fees, kept the grounds and rooms very clean, and had an \"integrity\" bar/fridge (take what you want, write it down, pay when you check out). Very convenient for late arrivals and departures out of JNB.

Very convenient for the airport. Ideal for our layover for an onward flight the next day. A little noisy as you'd expect being so close to the airport.

The grounds are pleasant and quite relaxing. Food is good. Staff are friendly and helpful and very accommodating with transfers etc.

The rooms are nice but looking a little tired now and in need of a revamp. But for a one night stay I'd not complain.

Not the best hotel, but very good value and I'd happily stay there again under similar circumstances.

Have been there before and find it very convenient with the airport transfer and short distance, as I am mostly using the KLM flight that arrives quite late in the evening, so it works very well and I have recommended Aero Lodge to several people. Something I can add is that [this time] I seemed to have the wrong telephone number printed on my confirmation letter and struggled quite a bit to find your correct number, as I needed to check if the airport transfers were included in the price or not and if I should submit my flight number and arrival time [as had been required previously on your website]. Works to be done .. at the Aero Guest Lodge..

We had a relaxing and amazing time at the Aero Guest Lodge..
However our rooms were cold .. the hot water from tap had poor water pressure in one of our rooms and the internet connection was unsecured..

If actions were taken to address these issues then our scoring would be much higher ..

Some aircraft noise, but only to be expected so close to the airport. Garden area was nice to sit out in. Risks of the area perhaps shown by high wall topped by electric fence around the property and CCTV controlled entry gate. Felt a bit apprehensive going out, but not sure if anywhere else in J'burg would be much different.

Check in was quick and easy, only problem I had was with breakfast. Breakfast says it starts at 630a but everything wasn't ready at 630a, if you state breakfast is 630a, everything should have been available at 630a. I had a tour to do at 7a and could not wait for the eggs and bacon to be cooked and put out.

Closeness to airport. Unfortunately very close to busy highway and what seemed to be heavy traffic all night. Of course also the airplanes taking off, however that was to be expected booking a property so close to the airport! Very friendly staff and extremely nice grounds and sitting area.

Didn’t like the fact they wouldn’t issue a refund when I accidentally chose the wrong check in date. I had ask for to switch the date to the day I wanted but they said no room was available. When I called they said their manager wasn’t available to approve it and they asked me to call back. A call was made severally and they kept saying their manager wasn’t around. Then until the day of the check in, they finally said they wouldn’t issue a refund.

Been to Aero Lodge manytimes - and wouldn’t do that if we didn’t like staying. We find it very convenient for the airport and the complimentary shuttle for pickup and take back is a real bonus. The staff are very friendly and the garden area for relaxing in (with the pool if you are brave enough to stand the cold water) is well kept and a lovely way to spot many different types of bird

Perfect for a one night stay before or after a flight. Food was good. Room was nice. Grounds were nice. Manager was quite personable. Shuttle runs to airport every hour. For a longer stay, I would choose a hotel with a safer neighborhood. The hotel is safe though as it is enclosed and secure.

I liked that it was close to the airport and included a free shuttle to and from. Staff was friendly, food was good but a little too salty in the kitchen. Grounds were nice. Didn't explore the area around outside of the lodge so can't say how it fits in with sight seeing. They were willing to let us keep our room later since we had an evening flight for a small fee. I also appreciated that they had a flat sheet on the bed which no other hotel I stayed at in South Africa did! Our room was clean but the shower didn't drain which can be a little gross. Overall, it was a pleasant stay both nights.
