Not great if you don’t gamble.

Vegas style resort, less than 10 years old, but starting to show wear. Staff were wonderful, but some things took longer to arrive than you would hope. Not much to do if you don’t gamble. Reign was good food, and food court in complex.

The staff are not willing to assist/go that little bit out of their way in terms of room service. No porter assisted on arrival. The breakfast at Reign restaurant was terrible. Lack of qualified waiter. Bread given as toast with extra well done eggs when Sunny Side soft were requested. No mushrooms, substituted with bake-beans :-( A lot more and they were not even busy at the time. Terrible service. Requested manager to no avail.

What a bummer paid for a 5 star hotel and got a room over a jackhammer. They are doing major renovations and the place is super loud. We literally had room right over the area they are working on and the hammering started early. Restaurant is closed and they send you to a casino for breakfast.. at least you can get wine for breakfast.

Oh and the water In Tub was green and you can’t see through it.

Nicely mentioned these issues at check out and the only response was sorry. Still charged the full price

The property had a nice view during breakfast of the pool area. But overall the property was a disaster for the price. The heater for the room was set at one temperature couldn’t control it so it was extremely hot in the room. Attempted to take a shower there was no hot water. Called the front desk and there was no concern about that, staff was incompetent

There were three or four patrons in the lobby bar that were basically “screaming “ for two hours nonstop. A number of other patrons left in disgust. The staff never said a word.
That alone , is enough for me not to return.
There are a number of decent choices in Sandton.
Also, the shuttle stops running at 6 pm.
I have stayed Ed there several times in the past , it “no mad”

Breakfast was excellent. Staff was friendly and the facilities were beautiful. Hotel is also connected to the casino which made going to the restaurants very easy.

COVID protocols were followed, everyone wore a mask at all times and everyone coming into the hotel was screened.

So so…

Was accommodated with an early check-in after a long haul, which was greatly appreciated. Safe in room didn’t work due to low batteries. Hot water in shower wasn’t consistent, so got unexpected bursts of cold water (invigorating!). Floor lamp wasn’t plugged in, nor was there an available plug point for it anyway unless I wanted to drag it across the room. Bed was super comfy. Breakfast was good. Restaurant service overall was excellent, but someone should tell the hostesses to get off their cell phone chats to be more present to the customer (happened at dinner and breakfast).

I understand the curfew limited things but communication on the limits could have been better. Bar and restaurant staff took way to long to acknowledge/take order despite nearly 1:1 ratio of staff v customer. Hotel basics: if you book a double bed, you want a double beds. I love my friend but we don’t sleep together. Taking an hour to sort that out after returning downstairs 3x so housekeeping could exchange our keys was beyond frustrating. The fact this delayed us after curfew so we couldn’t get a decent dinner was salt in the wound. Shower also had extreme temp changes despite not moving the setting/dial. Again, I get curfew limitations but the majority of these issues were basic hotel expectations.

We did not get the room as shown in the advert. There was no gowns as advertised, and no blackout curtains or turndown service as advertised on the website. Their excuse: COVID19. How they put these 2 together only they know. Why do they serve us with towels and bedding and cannot supply gowns only their minds can tell them.

The waiters have absolutely no training as they do not know the difference between butter and margarine and they cannot take a proper order for breakfast, which needless to say was served at ice cold temperatures. This happened every day we stayed at this place. The chefs probably bought their certificates somewhere because they also do not know the difference between a medium and raw egg and for sure their \"daily fresh baked scones\" was not fresh and not even 1 cm high. A 5 year old will do better than that. The food preparation and taste was horrible and we will not give this to our dog at home.

This place is so focussed on the Covid rules that they totally forget they are dealing with customers and human beings who still need a service.

Never ever will this place see us again.

Las Vegas style airport hotel in Jo'burg

We felt this hotel was somewhat overpriced. We chose it because of its location as an airport hotel for O R Tambo at Johannesburg and that worked out well as they have a free shuttle bus with luggage van every 15 minutes in each direction. The distance between the airport and the hotel takes about 10-15 minutes. The hotel complex is huge as it includes a few other less glamorous accommodation options in the Peermont brand and a casino (The Emperor's Palace) and a monster food court called The Emporium. However, that's it. No shops or local life. We took the Gautrain from the airport into the city and would recommend that as fast, safe and clean. No need to take the private driver option offered by the hotel for twice the price. Food at the hotel is very disappointing and the dining room was incredibly noisy and chaotic. The concierge desk was hopeless. Couldn't even provide a map. If you go in warm weather, the pool and garden were excellent way to pass the time. Other great experience for a free day is the Cradle of Humankind between Jo'burg and Pretoria.

After arriving at the hotel, they told me the hotel is full and I’d be transferred to the Mondior.. Mondior is a 4 star hotel and d’oreale 5.. when checking out I paid a relative high amount compared to if I’d booked it with hotels.com. After complaining only got a small discount.. all with all not good experience..

Old world charm in desperate need of an upgrade

We spent our wedding night at the D’Oreal. The event was made very memorable with a complimentary bottle of MCC and an abundance of gorgeous rose petals. Very special! The room was smaller than the one booked. (It was cheaper so this was ok) There were also no usb or european plugs to allow for cellphone charging whis is unacceptable at a 5 star establishment. The room was also not entirely sound proof as we could hear our neighbour banging around, doors opening an closing. Lastly the room is furnished with a pod coffee machine but only with two decaffeinated coffee pods.

We stayed here to blow the last of our money in the casino located within the complex, so mission accomplished but the hotel was a bit of a let down. We booked the cheapest room (twin) which was still a little pricey but we weren't expecting too much from this stay. However, the room was a little dirty upon arrival and we had to move furniture to get to the (working) power outlets. We had to boil the kettle on the floor as it was the only SA power supply working and had to charge the mobile device in the bathroom due to the euro power also not working. The breakfast was a free for all queuing for some time for food items and the cooked food (bacon and sausage) were cold. The serving staff were very friendly but then there seemed to be supervisors walking around who were not. As I walked to my table with a plate of food a lady shouted from another doorway where I was going with the food when I was just walking to the table we were allocated. We did achieve our goal in the casino and were helped with a late check time but the hotel itself was disapointing.

This hotel is conveniently located about 5 minutes drive from OR Tambo airport, which good highway links to most locations.
It is based on the Emperors Palace complex ( casino / restaurants / shops ) which are all within a short walk. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and have the usual facilities required for business travelers ( free good wifi ), satellite tv and tea / coffee making facilities. As the hotel is located in an area with external restaurants etc, what is available in the hotels is slightly limited in the way of food. There is a restaurant, but not really much for a quick bite unless you want room service. External restaurants are only 5 mins away so not really a problem unless you do not want to go out.

We started our 14 day trip to south Africa trip here, it was perfect. We were suffering from jet lag coming from the states and wanted a place that we would have the ability to stay up to local time. The bellhop arranged a taxi to drive us around in the city, we had an amazing meal right in the hotel with five star food at a reasonable price and we finished by playing roulette. The room was comfortable with balcony over their fountains and the staff was friendly. Perfect way to start our adventure!

Most disappointing. Was comparable to a 3 star in lusaka. Never stayed in a hotel that didn't supply complimentary water and charged a fee for storing something in the room mini bar. Had to keep my child's milk on the counter because would have paid R40 to put it in the fridge which was more than the cost of the milk in the first place. Had to walk out of the restaurant because nearly ate a meal that my wife is allergic to and was specifically not what we ordered. Instead of a clam risotto it came with prawns and no one told us that was the case because they had run out of clams! Then ordered a vegetarian dish from the room service menu and the samoosa was beef instead of potato. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
