I really like the location of the hotel but we were put into a room without an elevator and we had several heavy suitcases. The other complaint is that the room was lacking a few modern conveniences like a safe, coffee machine and a small fridge.

Good stay

This is a very good hotel with a long history and is built in a traditional period building overlooking the Hauptplatz.

The location is part of the Linz Old Town (Die Linzer Altstadt) and is also what we were looking for, so that met our requirements perfectly.

We had a good stay there.

We want to note that their restaurant's breakfast service and food choices were all excellent.

Pleasant old style hotel right in the main square - good breakfast in a pleasant sunny room. Lots of places to eat.

Access from the Hauptbahnhof is by tram - any tram goes to Hauptstrasse. If you are in Linz to see the town itself, stay here.

Fantastic hotel. It use to be a Monastery. I loved.how it uses keys to the rooms and you turn in the keys everytime you leave. The staff were amazing and nice.
Only downfall is there is not safe in the room and no elevator from ground floor to reception desk.

Hotel Wolfinger is an elegant old hotel that has been upgraded. It is beautiful. The room was huge with windows that looked onto the square. The bed (called a double) was more like a king size bed and there was a couch in the room as well as a desk. The bathroom and toilet were separate which offers convenience. The location was great. Easy walking to everything. Beds were comfortable and breakfast was a great huge buffet with all the delicious European treats-- every kind of bread, rolls, cereals, cheeses, salamis/meats, yogurt, etc etc, and of course every kind of coffee or tea. Absolutely lovely!

A charming hotel in a great location, right in the heart of Linz. The room was large, comfortable and furnished with classic wooden furniture. The bathroom was modern and well-appointed.

The location is unbeatable, with all the attractions of Linz nearby. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in the area and the Danube is a short walk away.

It's a quirky, old building with plenty of character - a really interesting place to stay. The staff were really helpful.

Parking was available at Hauptplatz Tiefgarage for around €25 a day. The hotel is a 2 minute walk from the car park.

I love this hotel. It's a very homey quirky well maintained old building on the main square in Linz, which is a very pleasant Bavarian town. I've stayed here many times and every room has been charming. The breakfast is also pretty good and the staff is terrific!

Generally i think that if you have been traveling hard and need a place to rest and regroup, Linz would be a good place to spend a couple of days, and this would be a good hotel.

A grand old house on the main square in Linz, this hotel has an air of a different time. Its great to be able to stay in such a place, and the furnishings suit the era. It makes for a very pleasant stay. Modern facities like wifi and heating are available, and the breakfast is nice too. The area is central and easy walking distance to restaurants and shops. My room wad huge too, and made for a very nice stay. I would return again.

A grand old hotel on the main square, this place mixes old and new together seamlessly. The entry to the hotel is back under an archway on the main square, and you walk upstairs to a main entry lobby, greeted by friendly staff with a nice family vibe. The common areas are big and spacious, with a classic rustic feel, with plenty of wood and creaky wooden floors, and the place feels quite welcoming.
I stayed in a single room, which was surprisingly large for a single, and was quite comfortable. Wifi was good, the bed was comfortable, and the shower was sufficiently big. There's no cooling, and the central heating was quite warm, but opening a window let in plenty of fresh cool air, and having a shutter allowed me to keep the windows open all night and keep the light out.
Staff were happy to give recommendations for food and entertainment, and the breakfast was tasty with some decent options for the mostly continental buffet.
Parking was fairly easy... you can drive up to the hotel on the main square to unload, and then following a map prepared by the hotel, head to the underground park under the main square, which is maybe a 2 or 3 min walk to and from the hotel. The hotel offers special rates too.
Definitely a nice and comfortable place to stay, right in the centre, and friendly staff... I'd certainly stay again.

When we arrived there was a great deal of construction in the Plaza where the hotel was located and directly in front of the hotel. Then as we entered, the smell of stale cigarettes was very strong. The staff was pleasant and accommodating but as I entered our room I was again very disappointed. It was old and unattractive and the bathroom was horrible. The smell of urine was very strong in the small closet-sized toilet area and the shower area was unattractive. I was very happy that I had only booked this hotel for one night.
This is my first negative review and I was sorry to have to submit it but felt others might want to know about the unpleasant aspects of this hotel.

The hotel was built in the 1500’s and while its features don’t go back that far, there is a charming amalgam of antique furnishings with modern engineering. The bathrooms are superb, at least ours was, room 11. Our room was large and bright and overlooked the main square, a huge and beautiful baroque square.

Website makes hotel looks much nicer than it turned out. We drove and it was hard to get to it, with long hallways and corridors ot feels dingy and unsafe. Plus, it smells inside the room which they cover up with strong perfume scent. Def not worth what we paid for it.

Located on the major square. If driving overcome any qualms and drive on wide pavement to the entrance.. caveat, there is a flight on stairs, no lift to reception.
Rooms at front are lighter and noisier, rooms at the back darker and quieter.

One of the best hotels I have stayed in. The staff couldn't do enough for you. They brought forward the breakfast, which was excellent, to suit my requirements.
The only people I would suggest avoid the place would be those with access issues. Other than that I would recommend it to anyone.
Also a lot of the cafes nearby don't take plastic

Misleading -- or an April Fool's joke?

Disappointing; overpriced and over-rated. The listed price for double-room is misleading, as it is for single occupancy; another 27.50 euro is charged for the second person. Our room was basic with a \"view\" over some ugly rooftops (although we were assured that this is not the worst room ;-)) and the hallway looked as a storage place. The service wasn't either at the level expected at such a hotel.

Do not visit Linz at Christmas

The hotel was excellent, the service superb - the only problem was that at Christmas almost all restaurants were closed, so we had severe difficulties to find a pleace to eat during all our stay. Needless to say, shops, museums and even churches were closed. Next time tell tourists to avoid the town during the Christmas holidays!

Great stay in a historic hotel

Location and comfort are the best things about this hotel. It could not be in a better location. Close to everything (except maybe the train station). The room we had was huge and very comfortable. The old furniture and decorations just added to the experience and charm. The breakfast was very good (lots of choice). Even though it rained, we had a wonderful time in Linz. There are several good restaurants close by (one excellent Thai restaurant for those who enjoy that cuisine).

Wonderfull staff, great breakfast buffet right on historic square. Walking distance to museums and restaurants. Room was average size, sofa beds really uncomfortable. Be aware there is no A/C and fans didn't do much. Plus, by having the windows open, the noise from the square below made sleeping difficult.

Arrived late and took a taxi to the hotel from the central station, although it turns out that most trams seem to go to a stop at Hauptplatz very close to the hotel.

The hotel is very pleasant with its lobby on the second floor (in the American sense). The hotel is architecturally an older building with character with an interior sort of court with balconies that access the rooms.

My room was huge, although a little quirky in its layout, but that was charming and in no way negative. Large LCD TV had a lot of satellite channels, a few in English.

The breakfast is very nice and the breakfast room is very pleasant and airy and overlooks the main square.

Just a thoroughly nice hotel. It had a lot of charm and Austrian style, and the staff were friendly and spoke great English. Unlike most hotels, which charge on the scale of $100 for a load of laundry ($10 per shirt or pants, $5 for socks or underwear, etc), they had a flat rate of 15 euros. I dropped off a load in the morning and it was done in the evening. The location is right by the main square and streetcar line.

Charm and beauty Two sided coin

I liked this hotel because of its look and location in a historic building. That also creates problems. I was greeted b y a staircase in order to enter, and there is no elevator at the entrance. When leaving they were quite accommodating about taking my suitcase down for me, and explained that because of the historic nature of the building, the city would not allow the ground floor elevator. There were also unusual floor level changes between my entrance hall, the bedroom and the bath. I was concerned about tripping. I would not recommend this hotel for persons with disability, or very old age. But if you counter that with charm and beauty, I found it appealing.

A splendid little find, right on the main square in Linz... Everything was in walking distance, and this hotel had quite a funky little charm to it. A bit dated, it was still well furnished and lovely. A welcome change from the more boring corporate places. Great staff and quaint layout. Loved it!

Charming old hotel totally renovated. In ancient building on main square. Room and bathroom good sized, great shower, great breakfast w as much coffee as you want! Only drawbacks to hotel: no AC but windows open and on 85 degree day it was not hot in room at night. No safe in room! No fridge in room. Otherwise an excellent hotel in a great location w great breakfast.

Right on the Hauptplatz

Very comfortable hotel right on the Hauptplatz. The staff was very friendly, the breakfast buffet was very good and the location was great.
My room faced the back so it was pleasantly quiet at night. The pillow and comforter had real feathers/down which, sadly, is becoming rare these days.
The shower was a bit small and sometimes the water temperature varied a bit so I just made sure to pay attention.

After 16 hour total flight I was happy to get an earlier check in. Although there was no air conditioning, I was offered a fan, which was very helpful since it was extremely hot while I stayed there.

We had a nice room viewing the \"hauptplatz\"in the old town. Nice location. But keeping the windows open, there was a lot of noise until midnight because of the proximity to restaurants.
The hotel is in an old well maintained building and everything about the hotel experience takes you back many years. Not to be compared to any new modern hotel.
Good breakfast.
Discounted parking in a park garage 5 minutes away.
No air conditioning

The hotel is on the main (very attractive) square. Reception is on the first floor, to which there appear to be stairs only. There's a lift to the upper floors. I stayed for 2 nights. My room was not serviced - a managerial oversight. An attractive breakfast room with oldy-worldy furniture, pictures, and mirrors. A good breakfast. There are restaurants on the square. Trams from the station (1,2,3 to the university or Landgutstrasse) stop there. A bit of shouting on the square during the night.

Older hotel with a perfect view of the plaza!

This was an older boutique hotel where every room is a little different. The floors are uneven and the furniture is antiques. The shower stall was extremely small even by European standards. (Ladies – Don't plan on shaving your legs in there!) However, the bathroom was clean with plenty of towels. The room was spacious with a desk, couch, chair, and coffee table. But, the best part was the bed! It was the most comfortable one I'd slept on anywhere in Europe. I like my bed a little softer and this was perfect compared to all those flat and very firm (hard) beds elsewhere. Be prepared to carry your luggage up one flight of stairs to the check-in desk but from there you can use the elevator (lift). I was fortunate to have a room looking right over the plaza with its outdoor cafés and shops. If you like new and modern, this is not your place. If you like authentic, quaint, and friendly – stay at this hotel.

We debated even stopping in Linz on our trip between Salzburg and Vienna. We had a great stop in Linz. This hotel is located in a very lively and nice old town square in a lovely part of Linz. There were dozens of lively restaurants and bars spilling over into the pedestrian only streets I this part of town. It was fun to see in a less known city. The hotel itself used to be a monastery and was over 500 years old. The front rooms face the square which was very nice but they were noisy late on the weekend night with the partiers outside. The back rooms seemed less nice, though they'd be quieter, and were where the servants of the monks lived many years ago. The staff was very friendly and nice with advice and let me use her cell phone to resolve an issue I had which was hard to work on without my cell phone due to having no international plan.

Good hotel right in the centre of the plaza. Can get loud with window open but doublepanels keep noise out. No air-conditioning but this was a minor detail. Staff spoke English well and went out of their way to open breakfast early to enssure I ate before getting an early flight. This is appreciated.

Nice hotel, rooms were noisy at front, lady at reception was nice but didnt help when i couldnt find where to store our bikes.,

Fun night in a classic hotel.

Wonderful old classic hotel in a great location! Staff was very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was fantastic!

Excellent situation, very nice and classic Austria

Very clean and comfortable, a little bit of old Austria and rather bizarre retro 70's feel! Would be an ideal family hotel for seeing Linz. Ideally situated and stay was made a little more special with the Xmas fayre parked in the square outside. Would definately stay again whether business or pleasure. Excellent VFM

Wifi

The Wifi access is unstable in the rooms, hard to connect, often disconnects.
It would be nice if the guest, who arrived together, would be able to call each other's room e.g. with call-groups.

Excellent location right on the main square. Walking distance to shopping and restaurants. Older hotel that is lacking in the details but was comfortable enough all the same.

Historisches Gebäude mit schönen Zimmern. Alles sauber, freundliches Personal und leckeres Frühstück. Die Lage ist ein Traum, genau im Zentrum. Parken ist vergünstigt (19,90€/24h) in der Hauptplatz Tiefgarage möglich.
