Stayed here four years ago and loved it. Came back this time for our anniversary, let the front desk know the occasion upon arrival. Resort didn’t make any gestures to make the occasion special the entire stay. I let the front desk know that the glass divider for the shower had a large crack running through it. There was a stain on the bench at the in room dining table and the outdoor fireplace wasn’t working. The resort was not busy. The only offer provided was to move us into a room with a less desirable view. I declined, they completely ignored the inoperable outdoor fireplace for three days. Calling room service often took 2-3 calls to get someone to answer the phone. The stay was underwhelming. For this price I’ve had better experiences and service. We also traveled with our kids. At times it felt like we were at a 60+ resort, did not feel family friendly.

The hotel was quite nice and our room was quite large at 625 ft.². The entire place seems a little bit dated even though they just remodeled it. It’s very clean and it was really comfortable. It just seemed overall to be a bit dated. Overall, we had great interactions with the staff. Only one night was the turn down service a little ridiculous coming around 9 PM. The grounds were peaceful and beautiful and well kept. Our dinner at the restaurant was delicious but quite expensive for what it was. The spa was nice, and what they offered was extensive. We have stayed at places like Ojai Valley Inn and this reminded me of a much smaller less fancy version. We loved the location, however where this resort was we felt it was quite easy to get into town and we really loved the little bakery there. It was also quite easy to get to Carmel by the sea, Monterey and offered grocery stores and shopping nearby. Overall, I would stay here again, although I do think it might be a little overpriced for what it is.

Beautiful and tranquil get away nestled in the Carmel Valley. Delicious restaurant on property (Lucia) and wonderful homegrown wine (Bernardus label - the Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir are delicious). Close to Carmel-by-the-Sea and everything good!

We spent our honeymoon at Bernardus Lodge four years ago and decided to return for our anniversary. Simon was absolutely amazing—both personable and professional. From the moment we arrived, we felt right at home. We were visiting here for our 35th wedding anniversary. We have been coming up every year for our anniversary and at least one other time a year for the past decade. This time was a little different as we didn’t receive our bottle of wine which was a little disappointing (I guess I’m spoiled because we have received one each anniversary), but the facilities and spa were amazing. The staff at the spa, restaurant and valet were beyond wonderful. Looking forward to our next visit already.

Nice hotel but all facility need some cleaning, power wash building will be a great and easy thing to do.
Reception was below average, our room was infected inside outside by fly, we asked to move and they told me the hotel was full for the next 2 days, after talking with Valet and housekeeping we understand it wasn’t the case. Apparently they are just not motivated.

The hotel has a beautiful garden and you can use a nice Mercedes convertible for free ( 4 h) unfortunately the lady doing the checking didn’t told us anything about the perks.

For $800 night and expensive bar restaurant pool service (not enough transat, only 20) you can find better deal around.

Lovely little stay at Bernardus

Had a lovely stay at Bernardus once again! Nice, cozy and accommodating rooms made a nice relaxing stay. We went to the spa one day and all the services were lovely. We also ate at the restaurant and bar and had some great meals. Overall, staff was friendly and we enjoyed our visit. Only small nit would be that during our stay there seemed to be quite a bit of younger children (4-6 year olds) and they were running around quite a bit during the morning & day. It didn't bother us but I did notice there was more noise as they were joyfully going about. Didn't recall this from our first stay but guess it just depends on when you are there.

This is a beautiful resort with very well appointed rooms. The suite we had was gorgeous and the complimentary bottle of Rose chilling in the fridge along with a delicious cheese and other snacks was a lovely touch. Staff were friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and the bed extremely comfortable. Our tasting menu dinner in the restaurant was delightful and room service meals hot and delicious.

Happiness is a stay at The Bernardus!

Absolutely wonderful!! Especially the dining. The chef is talented and inventive -and provides his guests with a gourmet adventure at every meal. I loved every morsel. In fact I told our server that we had fallen in love with him!
Iur stay was just perfect in every detail: the room was lovely. Our little patio was cosy. The hot tub glorious. The grounds beautifully landscaped. The Lodge was beyond perfect in every way. And, the staff, especially Kerry, who was one of our servers at dinner, could not have been nicer and more helpful-plus, he even laughed at our jokes.

Property is beautiful. My partner and I stayed in the luxury spa room, which is exactly as it is portrayed.
Only feedback i would share is, resort knew we were only staying 1 night, and on 2 seperate occassions asked us what are our plans for the day of arrival - which we responded with heading to the Bernardus Winery. Only to arrive at the winery and it was closed. Rather disappointing consider we drove down from the north bay and only had a short stay. Would of appreciated a heads up so we could of made alternate plans.

Hotel was impeccable. Incredible staff and service. Our rooms were well appointed. No nickel and dining which I appreciate. Everything in room bar was complimentary. Even the valet parking was included. Now the resort fee was $60, but they were upfront about that so you can’t complain.
My only complaint revolves around the restaurant.
For the prices and the ambience, I expected a higher quality of food. It was good, but unimpressive in the menu and presentation.
This is too bad, because the service was exemplary.

I have stayed here twice now. The first time I was nothing but impressed with the accommodation and facilities. This time the room seemed run down. One of the queen beds was pushed up against the wall so my daughter had to climb over me to get out of bed in the night. The spa plunge pool was cold (under repair) and the sauna was not working. Not what I expected for $1000 a night.

Always a treat

Staying at Bernardus is a special place. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable. The staff is welcoming and friendly. The grounds are well taken care of and absolutely beautiful. The children’s garden is our favorite and our kids love planting seeds and seeing of the flowers come through at a later time. We stay here every year and plan on always coming back.

The room was lovely. Bed comfortable. TV not working but management compensated us for it & fixed the problem. Staff kind & responsible. Wonderful lodge. Music in lobby on Wednesday was so good we stayed for 3 sets. Great pizza in bar on Wednesday. All in all an expensive but worthwhile splurge.

Christmas in November!

Heads up: If you want to hear nonstop Christmas music in late November, then this is a good place to stay and dine! But if like us you need a spa experience with quiet relaxation, then try someplace else! Christmas music was playing endlessly in common areas including the restaurant, and since there were few other patrons, we asked if they could change the music during our meal - but the staff replied they can't because it's the hotel policy to start the canned music right after Thanksgiving. We regretfully cancelled our dinner reservation, and unexpectedly had the hassle to drive to other restaurants for all our meals. That said, the room and spa were nice - except for hearing the Christmas music piped outdoors while walking to and from the spa.

Worth Every Penny!

The Bernardus had been recommended to us by a few friends and I had seen it mentioned in travel magazines. It certainly lived up to its billing. The room was spacious and lovely with a huge bathroom, a fireplace and large patio. The parking was valet, but you could go in and out as often as you wished at no charge. The restaurant, Lucia's, could not be better, both for dinner and breakfast. I should also mention that everyone who worked there was genuinely a pleasure to talk to.

Wonderful property. Amazing staff. Expensive stay but all the amenities are included so we didn't feel nickel and dimed - valet, well-stocked mini bar. Top-notch spa. Pet friendly. Miles and miles of wilderness hiking within 5 min drive and less than 30 minutes to Carmel by the Sea.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The property was very clean and the decor was very elegant. The room was beautiful and they even had heated floors in the bathroom. Our patio was very nice. The amenities such as pool, hot tub, spa and bars were very nice. The snacks and mini bar in the room was also stocked with nice items. Overall I would give it 5/5. I travel a lot and stay at a lot of luxury properties and this one was one of the best. It was an amazing experience. I would book this place again.

Don't stay in room Luxury Spa

My stay at this hotel was unfortunate. I reserved one of the more expensive rooms that has a back yard facing the mountains and a small jacuzzi. The problem was twofold. There is permanent equipment right outside the room that buzzes loudly and constantly, and prevents you from enjoying the back yard of the room. I let them them know about it, since you can hear it all the way from the reception, but nothing was done. In addition, at 8am construction started also very close to the room as they are renovating the area around the valet parking station. They could have warned me about it and give me chance to choose another room if it was available. I like the property overall and it can be relaxing, but they need to be more direct with their customers.
