It’s years since I stayed at Holiday Inn by the Bay. It was just as I remembered with more amenities and perfectly located near the Waterfront and Fore Street. Great base for enjoying Portland and all she has to offer. Next time we’ll stay more than 1 night!

There were a lot of little things that added to just an okay visit. The room wasn’t ready until 5:30pm despite a 3pm check in, house keeping didn’t come one day at all, and didn’t come until almost 4 on the 2nd day, etc

Front desk receptionist said to me after he hung up a conversation over the phone that he didn’t know what I was requesting because he couldn’t hear me and understand. I was requesting to clean the room after two days without service.

The check-in was so easy and the staff was so friendly and helpful. They gave us recommendations for food and sights. The location was perfect for both the old port and the art district. The room was beautiful and welcoming but was even better was the beautiful view of the bay. We loved waking up to the beautiful view. Parking was easy and the hotel was comfortable.

Parking wasn't available. Online it said they had overnight parking if you were flying out not true. And our website also said they had a shuttle but they didn't end up taking us because we were not I priority. So we had to get an Uber for our flight. They also told us to park in the parking garage the night before and our car has got locked in so we couldn't drive them to the airport.

An older hotel. The room .. king facing the port. Lovely view but mattress is very soft and bathroom is small and old (cracks in porcelain of sink). No smart tv so couldn’t watch Netflix (used laptop). Breakfast included … amazing! Never had such a fresh array of excellent food including personal egg dishes made to order. There are electric bikes available for guests .. nice touch! Close to restaurants. About a 15 walk to waterfront. Staff was friendly and efficient.

Overall, I had a very good experience at the hotel. The property was exceptionally clean, the bar was beautiful, and the service throughout my stay was friendly and professional.
The only downside for me was the empty mini bar. It would have been nice to have at least bottled water available in the room instead of having to go out and buy it elsewhere.
Breakfast was decent, but what really stood out was the ability to have your eggs prepared exactly how you wanted them. The cook was excellent, and the service during breakfast was outstanding.

Overall, it was excellent. The staff was very professional and friendly. Was so thankful there was a shuttle bus available. Just wish restaurant/bar was opened until midnight. We went to an event at Merrill Auditorium and got back around 9:30 pm and was informed that the bar closed at 10 pm.

2nd stay since 2013. Both times property was very clean and well maintained. Staff was always friendly and eager to help. Our room very nice and well appointed and the harbor view was stunning. Breakfast was delicious every morning. Gym and pool were also very good as were the other amenities.

Only drawbacks were mainly in the bathroom. The shower curtain had a distinctively unpleasant mold like smell our entire stay, obviously from not being changed regularly. The shower water would also frequently turn cold randomly even during short showers. The toilet had relatively low water pressure and as such required multiple flushes when used.

Finally, the main lock to our room was constantly sticking and would not open when we used our keycards. We asked a maid if this was normal and she confirmed it was not.

Overall however, our stay was very pleasant and enjoyable.

This issue may have all ready been resolved but when we visited the garage was under repair , not well lit and very scary to walk through at night. Other than that the hotel was in a perfect location and the free shuttle was an unexpected surprise!

The room was clean, but nothing special for the price per night. I really expect a bit more for $400+/night.

That said, the staff were friendly, the breakfast buffet with omelet bar was nice and good quality food (not included in price of hotel), walkable to the Old Port.

I've stayed here several times and last night was our worst experience. The room and furniture were very dusty so my husband and I were sneezing the entire night, one of the key cards would not open open our door and the fact not even bottled water was offered in our room is a little sad. I brought these concerns at check out and the woman couldn't have cared less.

Great spot within walking distance of tons of bars/restaurants/shops/ferry cruises. Had a problem with our shower and they immediately had us in a new room. Nice bar and restaurant on site. Takes a while to get an uber, so if no car plan accordingly!

Very clean and updated hotel. We had a beautiful view of the bay on the 9th floor.
The staff was super friendly and helpful. Richard, specifically, gave us all of our details and answered questions about the area.
The breakfast was a bit disappointing and haphazard on the first day. The staff seemed blindsided by a large local event. We had the package with the buffet so that was a bummer.
This hotel is in an excellent location. Walking distance to Becky's Diner, Victoria Mansion, even the Art Museum. We actually walked all the way down to Lukes Lobster at the pier. They also offer shuttle service around town so you can get dropped off and picked up wherever you need. May have to wait 15 minutes.
Overall, this was an excellent experience!

The breakfast buffet was excellent; was not free however, but worth the price.
Very helpful staff - they loaned me an umbrella to walk to the Cross Arena on Saturday, and provided an excellent airport shuttle service

Front staff was excellent to deal with and very pleasant. The shuttle drivers were also very accommodating and got us to and from our concert venue without a problem. The hotel is bright, quiet and very clean. The only issue is with the parking garage at the hotel........the spaces are small!! We have a Subaru Legacy and it was a challenge getting the car into the space. The check-in clerk did let us know ahead that the garage adjacent to the hotel was also available and better for larger vehicles. Otherwise, I would not hesitate to stay there again. Oh, and the restaurant had a great menu....the Lobster Arancini was delicious!

Stayed two nights and would have expected housekeeping to come in once to pick up used towels and drop off clean ones...didn't happen. Expected housekeeping to at least empty the two small trash baskets...didn't happen. Was totally surprised at the charge levied for paying guests to park their vehicle...never made aware of it by Expedia or the front desk at check-in. Also, our vehicle was a GMC Sierra truck which had maybe 3 inches of clearance to the roof of the truck! Very SCARY!!!

Good, affordable hotel to stay at when visiting Portland. I liked the comfort of the bed and the pillows. The view was cool looking out toward downtown. The room was also sufficiently clean and the bedside had lots of power outlets for chargers/etc. The parking garage was a bit run downa nd I despise parking fees ($20/night) but after coming in from Boston, the parking becomes cheap. I did not interact much with staff or partake in the restaurant/bar at the lobby so I can' comment much about that.

The king size bed in our room was like sleeping in a bowl. Everything ended up in the middle. The breakfast buffet was good, and the dinner was good as well. Their parking garage was under renovation, so they had us park in one of their satellite lots and charged us $20/day!

Well, it was definitely an over priced hotel stay. The bathrooms in the rooms could definitely use some updates. The ceiling is very low in the bathrooms and had many peoples hairs stuck to the ceiling which was nasty. How the cleaners do not notice is disgraceful. The ceiling could be easily reached to clean it. The bottom of the tub was crumbling. No bags were in my trash cans when I arrived. I had to go ask for some. No apologies either.
Also, you would think with all the $ paid to stay there that it would include guest parking but nope, they charge you $20 a day to park at the hotel. It is ridiculous. If they have to valet park your car they keep your key and give you a hard time if you ask where your vehicle is. I needed my coat out of my car and it was an act of congress to use my own key or be told where my own car is. The location is sketchy. It is a good size city not at all like you imagine being near the ocean, all you smell is car exhaust.
I checked out the day before I was due to check out (4pm) but was told they would not really check me out until the following day (just so they could charge me more $). I asked for a receipt and was told they would easily email me one after they charge my card the next day, well I have called twice and still no receipt. Proper Hospitality is definitely lacking here at the Holiday Inn in Portland ME. I suggest looking elsewhere

This hotel is good value for money. I had a nice room overlooking the bay. The breakfast is one of the better quality breakfasts and reasonably priced that I have had in a long time. I also ate in their restaurant and thee food was good. I would definitely make a point to stay again.

The in diner was very good, but with the complimentary appetizers didn’t have any choice but the dumplings! Those were nasty and out side was a little to cook! Other than our stay we had a great time! The pool was great!

The shuttle driver and the service they offered was great. They took us to dinner on the waterfront,then picked us up and took us to the State theater. They also picked us up after the show. The staff and breakfast buffet was awesome I'm just beware,they have cutback and breakfast was no longer free.that said it was delicious and well worth the price

Overall stay was good. The clock alarm went off at 6 am. I never thought of checking to see if the alarm clock was set...just assumed it wasn't. Walking distance to Old Port and good restaurants. Beds/bedding was ok. Staff was friendly. I'd stay again.

I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn by the bay in Portland Maine. It was an excellent experience and not terribly expensive for booking. I loved how the staff was able to upgrade my room just from checking in alone. Recommend anyone passing by to at least stay here just for the heck of it if you got time and money to spare.

Will not stay again. Parking was not available on ground floor due to an issue that was not explained to me. Hotel had us park at lot next door that with horrible lighting, stairs only so not handicap accessible and no elevator for luggage, not connected to hotel requiring us to walk around the dumpster to get to the hotel door and after ice this morning, surface area and stairs were slippery and not treated AND the hotel charged us for the parking. I’ve stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions due to underground ground, will never stay here again. Parking was not accessible and unsafe. Completely unacceptable.

Overall, it was very nice. Quick, easy check in, free parking, staff was exceptional, nice pool. Our room had a few issues though. The refrigerator didn't work, which we didn't realize until we had put stuff in it that spoiled. Also, our shower didn't drain properly. We mentioned it to the front desk on a morning when we were going to be gone for several hours so someone could get in and fix it while we were gone. We got back 5.5 hours later in the day and it still had not been fixed.

We had a lovely stay. Pro - The room was clean and spacious, staff was very helpful and friendly. Buffet breakfast was so delicious and had a great variety. Con -parking garage stairs were in disrepair and closed for use, but signs still pointed to them to access hotel.
