Villa il Frantoio is a treasure in Praiano on the Amalfi Coast. The Villa has fantastic views, nice rooms, and excellent staff and service. Before we got there, we were in communication with Cristina who made sure we were getting to the Villa in an efficient manner and to exactly where we needed to be. Because it is not an easy villa to reach as it is in among the hillside residences.

Check-in went very easy with Cristina, and our room did not disappoint. We had a large room with a Queen bed, little dining area, and a large bathroom. The larger bathroom with a shower and tub was nice compared to many of the smaller Italian hotels we stayed in. We also had a nice outdoor area outside our room with 2 lounge chairs. And of course the beautiful views of the Amalfi coast and ocean. That is a 10+ in itself.

Each morning, we came down to the breakfast eating area. Where Giacomo and a few others customized breakfast orders of eggs, bacon, omelets', and coffee to your preference. There were also pastries, fruit, meats and cheeses also out. They did such a great job in a friendly manner and made you feel super appreciated.

There is also a very nice pool on the hillside with plenty of lounge chairs. And also drinks by poolside that you can have for a very affordable price.

There are only 6-7 rooms here (sorry I forgot the exact room), so it is real quiet and feels nice to be out of the business of Amalfi and Positano. Though both are close by. Definite 5 stars!

Beautiful hotel with great views

The hotel was excellent and very clean and comfortable. But very hard to find and to get to. Recommend more signs for directions closer to the roads for guests to know the best location to get dropped off at and which direction to walk from there. I would not recommend for elderly family members because of how many steps you have to climb up to get to the hotel

Villa I’ll Frantonio was a perfect place to stay while touring the Amalfi coast. Giacomo and Cristina were great hosts and so very helpful providing information on activities, restaurants and transportation around the area. Breakfast was included and it was cooked fresh, hearty and included many local seasonal items. One could walk directly to the “Path of Gods” hiking trail right from the hotel which was a bonus as was the heated pool and sun loungers which afforded an amazing view of the ocean. 5 out of 5 stars for this wonderful boutique hotel.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. The room, the private grassy terrace, the pool with the ocean view, all absolutely stunning. The host was so kind and met our taxi up the hill and carried my very heavy backpack down to our room for me. Extremely welcoming and gave us info about bus times and transportation for the rest of our travels. The pool was lovely and had the best view, lounge chairs, and beverages available. It is up a hill so be ready to walk down into town, only about 0.5 miles down to many beautiful ocean view restaurants and some do have shuttle service back up. If you want to enjoy the best view in a gorgeous room and amazing hospitality, stay here rather than the very touristy Positano and Amalfi. The breakfast bar was beautiful and delicious- espresso, fresh juice and plenty of food options. This place felt like a dream! 10/10!

Guilio and his team at the villa were incredible. I unfortunately made the mistake of bringing very heavy luggage but they helped me carry it up AND back down the *220* stairs at the end of my stay, I can’t tell you how much I appreciated it! Beautiful views, amazing refreshing pool and delicious breakfast every morning! You can’t go wrong staying here!

The property is nice, but it is old. The bathroom shower had mold and the sink wasn’t too clean. The sheets and towels did not smell nice but we saw the cleaning lady daily washing and cleaning.

Really enjoyed our stay here - A beautiful villa in a scenic and peaceful village. The room was clean, spacious and loved how the history of the villa was preserved within each room. It is a short walk/bus ride from two lovely beaches and many great, authentic restaurants. Giulio, Samuele and Gianluca were so friendly and helpful throughout our trip :)

Do yourself a favor and stay in this beautiful place! We had the most amazing time!!!
Praiano is the ultimate place to stay while on the amalfi, it is quiet and not touristy, yet close to everything.
The hotel has the most breathtaking view and the best sunsets in the area. The room was big and clean, we stayed in the room with the front lawn which was incredible. The outside area is fantastic, the breakfast is great, and the staff is super friendly.
The only downside is the many steps to the property, but if you are able, it is so so worth it!

We had a fantastic anniversary week at Il Frantoio. The smaller town of Praiano is the perfect option on the Amalfi coast. A bus ride west, brings you to Positano. A bus ride east, brings you to Amalfi/ Ravello and more. Not only were the dining options fantastic, but you avoid the heavy congested tourists you see in Positano or Amalfi town. Giacomo and his father Julio run this quaint but thoughtful B&B with only 6 rooms. From the fantastic daily breakfast to the spacious terrace with gorgeous views, it was such a pleasant reprieve from the daily trips to neighboring towns. If you're looking for an amenity filled hotel with immediate service like a chain resort, this is not for you. If you're looking for a slower paced- care filled experience, consider Il Frantoio! This week was so memorable and we were so happy with our choice to stay at Il Frantoio!

Touring through Europe, this was by far our best experience. At first we were a little taken back, having to leave our bags at the top of the hill and walk quite far down curvy, steep steps. However, we should have a place trust in the staff as they left explicit directions. Once there, the view from our balcony took our breath away. The staff was so genuinely friendly and Lia made you feel like family. The breakfast was perfect each day, and the evening restaurant suggestions all wonderful. We will certainly return!!!

The pool has views out that you don’t believe are real. 207 steps to the town, so take some good trainers. The location of Praiano is perfect as it on the door step to all the major Amalfi towns & path of the Gods, without the busy rush

What Can I Say

I can not say enough about this hotel. This was the best hotel of our entire trip to Italy. We stayed in five different hotels during our time in Italy and I am so happy we picked this one for Praiano. From the staff to the view I can not say enough. The stairs are a trek up to it, but once you get there there can not be enough said about it. Giacomo and Julio will make you feel so welcome. They want you to have the best experience possible. They made restraunt reservations, did our laundry and made us feel so welcome. I wish every hotel I ever stayed in had the customer service that they had here. I know I will not be back in Italy for a while, but I will make sure to stay here whan I come again!

Average hotel - poor breakfast

This is the highest rated B&b in the area we looked forward to it.

Getting bags to the hotel is difficult. There is no parking within a quarter of a mile so you drop bags off then park. Finding the hotel if you haven't been before is difficult and negotiating steps with bags not for the faint hearted.

Other reviewers have talked about 200 steps down to the main road. This is not the hotels fault - but you need to be fit.

We arrived and were warmly greeted and given extensive information by the manager. Unfortunately he gave us out of date information on bus services so one night we waited an hour for a bus - before phoning him and being told what to do. He did offer to come and wait for us.
The room was spacious - with a nice balcony. The small pool area was nice and quiet although our sun beds were in need of attention - some material was ripped. The lovely small dog that lives there also left his calling card ( mess) in various places.

But the biggest disappointment was the breakfast which I have to say was one of the lowest quality I have ever had. It's a cold buffet with only a few items under cover - meaning most of the food is open for the plague of flies to 'enjoy'.

The small amount of 'fresh' fruit had discoloured. The extensive bread - croissants etc - felt stale / uninteresting. None was appealing. Fellow guests we talked to were equally disappointed. The majority of food was left on each of the three days we were there - unsurprisingly.

Relaxing stay at Il Frantoio

A relaxing 4 nights at Il Frantoio. Great location in Prianao which is much quieter than either Amalfi or Positano but allows easy access to both of those towns via the local Sita bus. Comfortable 'mini-suite' with terrace and sea view was perfect for unwinding after a hard days sightseeing. Word of warning - 200 steps to the main road and another 400 odd to the sea!

Best B&B experience!

My partner and I spent a lovely two nights here and had the most wonderful stay! The property and rooms are exactly as pictured and have the most breath taking views as it is located higher up on the hill. It was nice and quiet too, a step away from the business of Positano.

The room was beautifully prepared and very clean, and the staff were so friendly and helpful. They also provided a delicious home cooked breakfast each morning on the terrace, using the home grown produce from their property. Best B&B we have ever experienced by a mile! I highly recommend this place.

Spectacular location, lovely terrace and lovely pool. Julio very attentive, having our breakfast ready, organising trips, answering questions.
Downside is the 207 steps to the town, limited street parking, even higher up the hill. Some noise in early evening from other guests, otherwise perfect stay .

Beautiful stay with friendly staff in Praiano

We arrived much later than expected, but the kind young woman that works there graciously waited until we got there. Although the steps to the B&B appear daunting, it is relieving to know that I can easily work off all of the delicious calories I had just ate and drank while enjoying the many restaurants on the main street. :) The room was clean and intimate, not as big as I imagined, but it suited us quite well. Who wants to spend too much time in their room while on vacation anyway? Each room had its own outside space overlooking Praiano, the beautiful Mediterranean sea off the Amalfi Coast, and not too distant views of Positano, which was breathtaking every moment I spent admiring. The pool was refreshing and mostly always private. The breakfast provided in the morning was continuously fresh and wholesome, offering a wide variety of local items to choose from. The B&B is connected to the Path of the Gods, just a many, many steps up - but so worth the views and adventure if you like to hike. My boyfriend and I went to celebrate my 30th birthday, as well as our dating anniversary. We will definitely be back when we have the chance, and we will more than likely revisit this B&B due to the great experiences we had while there. Grazie!

Amazing views from balcony; the nicest concierges

The hotel was exactly as described and pictured - the best feature was the amazing balcony area which actually had grass under our feet! It has an amazing view of the sea. Although other reviewers mentioned noise in the morning from the kitchen, we didn't experience this at all - maybe they addressed it? We had an absolutely wonderful time and asked if we could extend our stay but unfortunately it was booked!

Both concierges we interacted with were incredibly helpful and friendly. They gave us information about local restaurants and transportation and the gentleman was even kind enough to insist on carrying my suitcase up the many stairs outside. The hotel is above the main street by about 250 stairs so come prepared! This is typical of the town and area so if this turns you off, you probably won't enjoy Praiano or staying in the quaint towns along the water.

We would definitely visit Il Frantoio again and recommend to our friends.

You do need to be fit to walk the 250 steps up to the B&B
Make sure you follow the directions provided and don't try to attempt to take your bags up the steep steps
This is a great place to stay in an amazing part of the world

Beautiful location and well maintained hotel. Of course there are many steps to take on on the Amalfi Coast but that kept us fit. My only complaint was that our room was right next to the kitchen so we were awoken at 6.30 - 6.45 every morning which wasn't very pleasant when one wants to sleep in when on holidays. Apart from that the breakfast was great and I have to thank Simona who went out of her way to assist us with information.
