this place was terrible. room we booked not avajlable so had to settle for room 1 with 2 queens. first off they say there’s a jacuzzi, but it’s basically a bath that won’t fit inside the small bathroom. jets don’t work in the jacuzzi. so what’s the point. the bathroom vanity countertop is cracked. there’s a hole in the ceiling of the bathroom where there was supposed to be a light fixture? to pay several hundred for the his room is a true tragedy.

Bait-and-switch. Charged over $400 for a room with 'spa bath', only to discover, AT CHECK-IN, that the bath was broken. Also, the pool and hot tub (the other two reasons I booked this hotel) were 'being cleaned' and 'might be open later', only to find the pool completely drained, with yellow CAUTION TAPE blocking access to the pool/hot tub area. Then told pool was undergoing 'last-minute repairs' (no cleaners or service people ever on-site). Was told we could 'find another place' if we wanted a refund (on a Sat evening, this was impossible), but because we USED HOTELS.COM no partial refund could be given for lying about the spa-tub room. Well, at least we could watch TV with "all premium channels included". Nope! Not a single premium app was 'connected to the network', not even live TV (only discovered this after getting the dead batteries replaced in the remote). Could be a decent place with all the amenities working (AS ADVERTISED), but instead had a cheap motel feel (also greeted with half-used bottle of conditioner & the CHEAPEST soaps possible). I would really like someone to offer at least a 50% refund. Otherwise, I would advise you to steer clear of both Chantico Inn AND Hotels.com, as neither seems interested in taking responsibility for false advertising and terrible service.

I know you don’t stock your air b and b with family heirlooms, but it felt like they had spent the absolute minimum to furnish this place. Beds and couch were uncomfortable no TV, chairs that were plastic and felt like they were about to break. It made the stay uncomfortable. No sugar for coffee. It just felt half assed.

Hotel was overbooked and we were turned away.

We had driven to Ojai from LA specifically for this hotel stay, but the hotel did not honor our reservation. We had to travel back to LA.

This is utterly unacceptable
and beyond disappointing!

Please see that the payment is refunded promptly.

A reimbursement for gas mileage, wasted time and a ruined Holiday weekend is also in order.

Receptionist claimed there was an issue with your website and that she couldn’t process the payment due to a recent change in her operating system. She indicated she canceled the Expedia reservation and then asked me to pay again with my own credit card (separate from this reservation). I fear I have been ripped off. The staff was courteous and the facility nicely decorated and very clean. It was located within easy walking distance of many places to eat and shop. Our room, was a little of a problem though. The room was clean but…. the refrigerator did not work at all, the shower curtain fell down and couldn’t be put back up and the main lamp in the room did not have a shade on it and other light fixtures were unusable. The patio area outside our patio door was not private. Other people were using it. The ice machine was not working. There was a store nearby where I was able to walk to and buy ice.

Front desk is unstaffed most of the day so if you have issues like connecting to the wifi you will be out of luck. Rooms were averagely clean- didn’t have the attention to basic details like setting the time on the alarm clock or microwave. Hotel seemed empty but put me in a room closest to the Main Street so it was noisy all night. $25 fee for lost room keys (rfid card that probably cost less then a dollar a piece) seemed ridiculous to me.

Best thing is the location! Very walkable to stores and walking trail. Cute aesthetics. The pool and jacuzzi were nice and warm. Sadly a lot of flaws added up. Front desk was rarely there. We only saw them at check in. You have to call them if you need them. Breakfast was very meh. Got slightly better with more guests. Maybe better to just eat elsewhere. No warm food or fruit- just drinks, cereal, pastries, bread. Waffles were available with more guests but the waffle maker was old and NOT nonstick even if you spray it with oil. Mix just got stuck, so it was unusable anyway. Room 8 bathroom door couldn’t close, the door and frame were misaligned so you have to block it with a towel on the floor to close it slightly for privacy. Most disappointing thing is we paid more for a suite with a jacuzzi and the jacuzzi didn’t even work. We had to call (No front desk) to ask what was wrong. They said it was broken and so were 2 other room jacuzzis and they said someone should’ve told us when we checked in. No apologies and no one told us at check in. No refund or new room was offered. I would have rather saved money on a normal room. I hope they can at least offer a partial refund. Very cute place but such a waste if they don’t step it up to improve these fixable issues. Not sure if we’d book again.

There's no excuse for running out of paper or utensil supplies - just sloppy & inattentiveness. Why bother even offering breakfast if the guests can't eat it?

Location of property was good. Convenient walk to shops and restaurants. The Chantico Inn management of the property is very poor. During my stay there was only one person present on the property doing everything: running front desk, setting up continental breakfast, cleaning rooms, doing laundry. Whenever we needed help, she was not easily found. We had to call someone off the premise to intervene.

Buyer beware. This hotel engages in bait and switch pricing. Reserved room through Expedia for total price and then day of arrival hotel notifies you that have an upcharge. That’s disingenuous. I am now trying to resolve the matter with expedia. No where on Expedia states additional hotels fees. Contacted manager and response was you signed the pre check in customer information card which is where they sneak in the additional fees. After that conversation I’ve been ghosted. Thank goodness Expedia is taking the lead. Additionally, staff is sparse or non existent on property and weeks prior to arrival requested a room on 1st floor due to guest needs and never received a response. Ended up having to take room in 2nd floor. We even left a day early due to these issues. I’ve stayed in lots of places and this is one of the worst. Will not be returning. If deciding to stay there I’d suggest making sure the price is the one you’re expecting.

Our nightmare 2-night stay started with the fact that they don’t open their office until 3 pm. We arrived early and sat in our car for an hour until we decided to go get something to eat. When we returned, their computer system was down and they had no way of checking you in and needed to be paid in cash. They had a Very Disappointing continental breakfast consisting of coffee (no decaf) 2 little servings of sugary cereal, bread and muffins. Again, the office was closed and the maid didn’t speak English. Later the 2nd day, they locked us out of our room (I assume they only had me booked for 1 night) and Again, they don’t open the office until 3! I had food poisoning and couldn’t get into my room to use the bathroom!!! It took an hour to finally reach someone at their after-hours phone number to get someone to come to the hotel and give us new cards to our room. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL OVERPRICED COST!!

They double charged my card even though the first time it showed approved. On check in was the only time someone was at the desk, otherwise a “please call this number” sign was posted. Breakfast was meager and stale considering $425/night. Non-guests were using the rather small pool and letting their children splash people not even in the pool. The jacuzzi controls were broken, effectively a useless, second bath tub. I checked, there were no other places available our second night or we would have left. Lastly, seems like parking was insufficient.

It's a charming property, and we liked the swimming pool on a hot afternoon. The room (#13) feels exposed since there's a common area for other guests just outside the door, along with the adjacent highway. And there were blinking colored lights turned on at night that were visible through our curtains. The bathroom could use extra cleaning.

As a local, I put up a guest here during an emergency situation in which our power was cut off. I paid for our guest and put their name on the reservation via Orbitz. Upon check in my guest was told that they owed a separate fee because they needed to make up for the fee. They paid to the third-party platform a.k.a. Orbitz. This is illegal and sleazy.

As a small business, the staff is nice but does not always staff the front desk. I respect small business B&B style,, but unfortunately, there are things to be attended to with somebody on staff without having to text or call the ‘night number.’ For example, the ice machine was empty. The breakfast was only DIY waffles, toast and cereal and the coffee pot was empty. The pool had leaves in it but was fortunately a good temp. Most of all they need to confirm with guests that they have successfully refunded the $150 deposit thru charge, especially when there was no one to talk to at checkout. Beds were comfortable and we love Ojai, so I believe they can do better.

The Expedia website let me book a room at the Chantico Inn that I could never use. The hotel was already closed for the night at 10:30pm when I booked it but there was no way to possibly know that the hotel was already closed according to the Expedia website. And when I arrived at 11 pm and the office was closed there was no way to check into my room. The hotel lists 2 different people and their phone numbers as "after hours" contacts but I called and texted them both multiple times with no answer. And when I contacted the hotel the next day they refused to give me a refund. What did I possibly do wrong here other than get completely taken advantage of? It is unethical and dishonest for them not to give me a refund.

As a solo traveler the large peep hole in the door didn't make me feel too comfortable as well as not having a front desk person overnight. Overall though it was a great night's sleep.

The hotel charged my debit card for my room the day before we checked in. I chose this hotel because it said reserve now, pay later. I was going to pay at the hotel on the day of check in and did not consent to paying a day early. I have done this reserve now pay later with other hotels and have had no issue. Also, they charged my credit card $25 for nothing a few days after we checked out. We literally stayed the night, and did not have any of the free breakfast, the hotel room was perfectly intact as we had first come to it when we first checked in. This has never happened before to us with any other hotels. It definitely ruined our anniversary stay and left me feeling frustrated and like they had stolen from us. Stay far away. Definitely shady. You call the office and no one ever answers. When I had hotels.com try to call them they couldn’t not contact them either and told me to keep trying to no avail. Do not stay here. Also no one is ever at the front desk. When we checked out there was just a basket that said leave keys here.

Overall, our stay was very comfortable. Our room was very spacious and clean. I did not like that the sink was in the common area outside of the bathroom, but we made due. The bathroom also needed a few minor upgrades. The hotel staff was very friendly but was often not at the front counter. The hotel is close enough to restaurants and shops that you can walk to, but not too close to hear a lot of foot traffic.

We booked to stay at this property for a two day weekend in Ojai. When we arrived, they gave us a room that we didn’t book and what was even worse was the overwhelming smell of chemicals, specifically bleach when walked into the room. The smell was so strong that we immediately checked out. The young man at the front desk was unable to help us, tear the manager would not call us back in fact we tried two times to speak to her and then when I finally did get to speak to her a week later because I initiate the call she said I was harassing her. There is nothing charming or rustic about Chantico inn. It is old, poorly run and I would not recommend it at all. I tried to have a reasonable and rational conversation with Tia and I can show you text messages from her to Corporate what I’ve said. But she was very rude and was yelling at me on the phone. I reported this to Expedia and will also follow up with my credit card company.

The property is very nice but in a sad state of upkeep, maintenance and landscaping. In my room the bathroom faucet would move when trying to turn on the water. The sink filled fast and took 15 minutes to drain after shaving. The Jacuzzi tub mechanicals didn’t work but it filled and drained well. I went out to the front patio for breakfast and it badly needed landscape and basic cleanup work out there.
Location is excellent and the AC in the room worked very well while I was there. I enjoyed using the Pool area and outdoor hot tub that seemed to be well cared for out there in the back.

Lovely staff but sink didn’t drain, no shampoo or soap and electrical plug by mirror didn’t work.
