I choose to stay at the Holiday Inn and Suites based on high review ratings and that it is a recent renovated property. I received an ADA room and was not happy with it. It was nearly midnight and hotel was full so trading rooms was not an option. The cleanliness of the room was lacking from the well worn carpet to the bathroom and linen. The bathroom received cursory treatment it is grimy and needs deep cleaning at the toilet and tub area. The complimentary bottles must be topped off. The fridge needs cleaning, I could not use any part of the freezer for my ice packs bc it was nasty. The bed linen top sheet had a hair and marks, I had to sleep on top of it. I was exhausted and at least had a good nights sleep and was in safe environment.

I hate seeing those IHG commercials about best clean hotel rooms because it just is not true in this case and others I have experienced.

I am pretty sure our room was not cleaned between us and the previous customer as there was hair and dirt all over the bathroom. The soaps were is disarray. Just the towels replaced. Then the elevator stopped working, luckily, the door reopened so we could get off… everytime we went in the lobby, the front desk staff was just sitting in the lobby chairs on their phones or talking smack about other employees loudly. Very unprofessional. I would never stay there again and would never reccomend anyone else do so either. The only positive is that the location is great. However, it made me wish I had booked at literally ANY of the numerous other hotel locations nearby. Typically I stay at IHG, but, poor quality.. do better. MUCH better.

We could have moved to any hotel in the area. There were at least 10. But unfortunately we booked with hotels.com. Next time I will book through my IHG app instead!

Staff was unavailable for 20 minutes at check in. The staff was dressed inappropriately, wearing psychedelic mushroom shirts and torn jeans. The front desk employee, “Tabatha,” was too busy disappearing on smoke breaks to appropriately handle our concerns. Our room was not ready by check in. We stood in the hall while the employee cleaned it, talking on her phone and using foul language in front of our children. Once in our room, the sheets had black smears by the head of bed, and we requested the sheets be changed. Our pillow had urine colored stains on it. We requested a new pillow and they never brought a new one. We went back downstairs and asked for directions to the pool, only to be told the pool is “not quite ready yet.” We called two days prior to confirm the readiness of the pool and they assured us it would be ready. We were there for 1.5 hours and decided to leave. No refund given, no kindness or warmth from staff the entire time. Awful experience.

My daughter and I stayed here one night on our long drive to Charleston. We arrived late. I can’t say enough about the kind night shift woman working the desk. She was warm, friendly, and thoughtful. I just knew we were in for a good experience. It was all downhill from there. Once we got to our room, we found the TV remote wouldn’t work, the WiFi was inaccessible, there was hair in the bathtub, there was toothpaste spit all over the mirror and faucet, and there were old candy wrappers on the floor by the bed. It was too late at night for my toddler and me to do anything about it. When we checked out in the morning, we told the lady at the desk (different person) about the state of our room. I stated I didn’t want a refund, I just wanted her to know the room hadn’t been cleaned. She quickly dismissed me and clearly couldn’t have cared less. This is the first time I have ever left a negative review…that’s how gross it was.

We’ve stayed here four years straight after a long drive on our way to spring break. We’ve always enjoyed it but this was the first year that it’s been beyond disappointing enough that we won’t be back. The room was dirty and grimy I was uncomfortable to even stay. Breakfast, which used to be really good, was slim pickings and stale or not cooked at all. We all got omelets and they were frozen with a solid cheese stick in the middle still. The garbage’s in the room where you eat your breakfast we’re literally overflowing and smelt of rotten milk. The place was so unkept and uncared for it was terrible. We won’t be back :(

The housekeepers woke us at 930 beating on our door for a noon checkout. We checked in bc we were both sick so needed to crash on our trip. Then Laverna or something like that cut us off with a laundry cart then when I asked if she didn’t see us she said she thought we were going the other way but it doesn’t matter. There was still only room for one where she cut us off. Then proceeded to talk about us to her coworkers or staff bc she may have been a manager.

It was raining and around 930pm when we arrived to the hotel. The awning was blocked off due to construction. We didn't see the signs when we got there due to the wind knocking them down but there are signs pointing you to use the side entrance doors. It would've been nice to have seen the signs before we got wet walking to the front doors. Once we made it inside, we waited 5-10 minutes for an employee to come to the front desk to check us in. She was on a smoke break.
Upon our initial inspection, the room seemed to be clean but the bathroom still had hair in it in several places from the previous guests and there was soap or cleaner left on the bathroom sink area. There was also urine under the toilet seat. I spoke with the cleaning staff the next morning and it was taken care of. The sheets were clean but the room could use some extra dusting. We only took advantage of the breakfast one morning and it was subpar. We were downstairs at 7:15 am and most of the food was gone with no employee in sight to refresh the food. By 7:45 the food hadn't been replenished (luckily there were pancakes). The area around the hotel is nice and luckily there are a lot of dining options.

The best thing? The AC in the rooms is amazing! The room was warm when we arrived, but within 10 minutes of dropping the temp, we were cold! That’s a good thing in Alabama in September!! The staff were great, very helpful and easy to check in and out with. The kitchen staff were very observant and friendly during breakfast. Several good options to eat. Parking lot was well lit, quiet area. There was a crack in the toilet bowl, and the bathroom had some hair on the floor of the shower. That’s the only reason for 4/5. Otherwise it was a great stay.

We stayed here for 1 day and that was 1 too many days. The room wasn't ready even with a 3:00 PM check-in. I was told the room would be ready at 2:30 PM then 3:00 PM. At 3:00 PM, I came back inside to see if the room was ready and I was told it wasn't ready. Then I was told to check back at 3:15 PM or I could switch the room. I said I will switch rooms which ended up being the same room I booked but just on a different floor. The stay was an uncomfortable stay. I always sanitize my room anyway, but I really had to clean the room. The hallway had a smell and the floor needed vacuuming. Everytime the air came on, it made the room feel wet. Overall, I wouldn't stay here again.

Hotel under construction. Don’t recommend!

This hotel was under construction and we were not warned. It would’ve been helpful to proceed had we known it was under construction. They placed a crib in our room, as requested, but with no mattress. When I asked the front desk for a mattress, the lady said she didn’t have a key and “what is in the room is what you get”. When we arrived to our room, the door was cracked open and it seemed the room hadn’t been finished being prepared. The coffee maker was out on the coffee table instead of on the counter. The ice bucket bag was missing. And the floor hadn’t been vacuumed. We did get decent sleep as the beds were comfortable.
We would not recommend staying here, at least under the current management.

This property is under renovation, which was not disclosed when we booked on our family vacation. The tvs were not working in any room. The pool was closed. There were employees standing at the very front entrance smoking. The front desk employee was drinking out of a cup that had a sticker on it that said, “what the F*ck?”. We called the desk twice to get sheets and pillows for the pull out couch that we needed to use and when they finally arrived they were delivered by 3 young children(??). The room itself was clean, big, and comfortable, but as we walked off the elevator toward the lobby we spotted a huge cockroach crawling across the floor. The experience wasn’t the worst we’ve ever had…but definitely not what we expect at a Holiday Inn Express and Suites.

When we walked in the foyer is totally gutted for renovation which was fine but, the elevator was broken so the stairs were the only option.
We got to our room which had definitely been remodeled but, not cleaned thoroughly. Bathroom was dirty, half drank drinks in the fridge, kids fingerprints and mouth prints all over the mirrors.
They could not compensate any of our bill because we had booked through an online provider. Which did not make us happy at all!
The only plus size to this stay was the location. It’s right off the highway.

Our room was decent, it had some mold and stains in the bathtub. The pillowcases also smelled like body odor. The workers were very kind. Our main issue was the construction that we were unaware of. We paid $230 for a suite and were kept up all night by construction, and woken in the morning by what sounded like lawn mowers. The elevator also didn’t work on our last day, so we had to take the stairs to and from breakfast and to load the car. The staircase was filthy from the construction. The breakfast wasn’t bad.

Under construction. However, our room was recently done over but vanity light in bathroom did not work. Had reservation for “king suite” but gave us a double queen. I called to confirm the room 2 days prior and was assured it would be a king suite. Btw Suite just meant a couch in the room!!! Stayed 2 nights but the room was never made up. When we called at 3 pm to ask why the front desk informed us the maids had left for the day. No television service as they claimed Direct TV would not install the service until all construction was completed.
We paid normal rates but got horrible service. BEWARE!!!!

Nowhere was I made aware at the time of booking that the hotel is currently under renovations. When we arrived we couldnt even enter through the front door. We had enter a door on the side of the hotel and work our way through the construction to the make shift front desk. We then had to wait while the lady at the desk found a computer that was working to check us in. We finally got to the room to find low water pressure which caused us to not be able to flush the toilet properly, half of the tv channels didnt work, and it took an extremely long time to get hot water for showers. The next morning, we went to check out and had to wait for almost 20 minutes for someone to even come back to the counter to check us out (later found out she had been outside smoking) The lady finally arrived in a tshirt, without any IHG identification and extremely unprofessional.

When we first arrived we found out the hotel was under construction.We had to use a back door to get in.It was a pain with all of our bags because we had to lift everything over the curb.Once we got in our room we found out there was no TV.There was also no ice maker because it was broken and the ceiling was dripping water outside the elevator on our floor.We presented this all to the front desk worker but he told us to reach out to hotels.com for a refund .Other guests had the same issue.Oh and the pool was disgusting.It was cloudy and green.

When we arrived we found that the property is under renovations which was not shared before reserving the room. There was urine around the base of the toliet and unclean surfaces in the room. The Direct TV in the room was not working. We tried to call down to report it and the phone was not a working phone at all. It didn’t even have a cord. We went down to the front desk to report the tv and we were told to turn it off and then back on and it should start working, which we had already done multiple times…. It never did work.
The pool was dirty and there were no towels by the pool. We had to go inside and ask for the towels to be refilled.
Overall, very disappointing stay. We will not stay here again.

Picked Holiday Inn Express in on phone didn't check reviews and the property is in full renovation. Property is a mess. TV are not working and management doesn't care. Will be complaining to Holiday Inn that this facility doesn't meet their standards or mine. Very expensive for terrible accommodations. We arrived to find construction on both sides of the hotel (we were unaware). The woman at check in was very nice. She mentioned they just got new tv’s and that if it didn’t work, to just unplug it. Our tv didn't work at all during our stay. We are a family of 4 and only had towels for 2. When my husband when to get more, the attendant was stressed and said they were almost out of towels. We weren’t the only ones looking for more.
At checkout we forgot to get a receipt so went back in to get one. The employee was outside smoking and we were told we couldn’t have one because we booked through Expedia. Maybe this is a new rule but it’s never been that way before.

Claimed it was newly remodeled but the room was not very clean. The air conditioning unit was really dirty. We had only a few channels on the tv and the phone did not work at all. Breakfast was ok but it was only 8 o’clock and they were running out of food and not putting any more out

Rooms were very nice. Staff were nice. Pool is closed for renovations and first floor rooms are being remodeled as well.
