This was not an ocean view room. Hotel Catalina is an old building with a lot of the historical charm that an old building has to offer. The room was very spacious. There is staff at the front desk only until 8pm.

This hotel has is a great location, close to the water and Avalon \"Casino\". It is located up a steep hill just one long block up from the harbor. We had a spacious 2 double bed room with sitting area, pretty views, and a relaxing patio off the hall. The staff were very nice and helpful. Keep in mind this is an older and very basic hotel, with a vintage feel. There is no elevator, no in room coffee pot, and no place to buy water at the hotel. The room had a tiny shower/toilet bath room and the hot and cold water is reversed in the shower. There is a small refrigerator.

We went off season and the price was good for a place to rest and shower. I would suggest to update the carpet. Bathroom is cozy, but my son enjoyed it mentioning he was scared when the bathrooms were too big.

Room needs a bit of work. I would call out the blinds on the door as there was a light directly in front of our room and it kept me up. It would also have been nice to have an iron/ironing board. Otherwise, I knew it was a Victorian so I had set my expectations accordingly.

The standout here is the staff. What a great experience with the person who checked us in / out. Keep up the great work.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel location is great. The price also was fantastic.The hotel is very old and the walls are thin. So the rooms are small, the plumbing is not the greatest, and you can hear the TV through the wall from the next room. They also do not have air-conditioning. However, we did not need the air-conditioning at all on our trip. They do have community balconies at the front of the hotel on all three levels that has a nice ocean view. Overall, we had a great stay, especially for the price.

Shower water cold the first day but fine that night after I called front desk. Bathroom is old, no counter space including small sink and floor cold. Living area fine with bed, tv, closet and dresser drawers though needed heater on to stay warm. No microwave in room but had fridge. Did have shared microwave area. But good value for Catalina accommodations.

We were given a room (305) that I assume they don’t rent out often because when we arrived there was mold on the toilet seat (under the toilet seat cover. The lid of the tank didn’t fit so it would be jostled around when using the toilet. I took the lid off and saw mold in there as well.
The internet didn’t reach our room though it said it was connected.
The bed and linens were clean!
It was nice to have an older style wall heater so we could easily control the temperature.
The furnishing are quite dated and worn including the ceiling fan. Not sure how a ceiling fan can be worn but the finish was coming off.

The room was cheap, there was a huge cockroach in our room. We also left 3 coconut waters in our fridge by accident when we checked out and came back an hour later to get them but instead found the hotel staff in the lobby eating food drinking our coconut waters. You could say that we had checked out already but the hotel staff knew we were returning because they were holding our luggage for us (really just told us to put it in the corner of the lobby) so they knew we would return. You could at least just put our coconut water with our stuff. Really funny thing that happened with the coconut water but still not ok. I would definitely spend the extra money at another place.

No one answers the emergency line and their mailbox was full. No one was ever at the front desk- even 15 minutes before checkout and they close super early . No one cleaned the room or even replaced towels and toiletries. The room was cold and the beds only had sheets and a stingy blanket. The ocean view was obscured by trash and storage of broken patio furniture. Yeah… not going back.

The hotel was just perfect. We wanted to stay in Catalina but didn't have unlimited funds. The rooms were very clean. Beds were comfortable and the pillows were amazing! The bathroom is very small but you only need for a couple reasons. There are 3 floors and we stayed on the 3rd. Carrying suitcases was a little difficult but that was worth it to be on the top floor. Great view and front desk was very nice. Definitely would bring my family and stay here again.

Wonderful hotel, built back in 1892 so that it's rooted in history. Steps away from the harbor, half a block up a steep side street that's far quieter than those running parallel to it and closer to the all the cafes, bars, and souvenir shops. Don't expect luxury, there's not even an elevator. We had a third-floor room with a view of the ocean, with two reading chairs to enjoy that view and a very comfortable bed. Ample bathroom & all very clean & tidy. At the end of the corridor, a wide porch with lounge chairs & sunlight. Staff exceptionally nice. We will stay there again next time we have the enormous pleasure of visiting this enchanted island.

Very fun, quirky hotel. We did have a ghost in our room though, which kept turning on our light in the middle of the night but once we acknowledged it, it stopped and let us sleep. Same thing happened to two other people from our group, they said the same thing happened to them - seems to be a friendly ghost.

The hotel was clean, bright, comfortable, and conveniently located within 2-8 minutes walk to the beach, shopping, and food. The property seems quite old and has some quirks, but it is clean, quiet, and well maintained, with gorgeous smelling star jasmine bushes and succulents just outside the front porch, windows with stained glass over the stairs, and an open air porch on each upper floor with wicker chairs and a view of Avalon harbor. Each room was sunny, fresh and clean, and included blackout curtains, a dresser, a TV with a Roku remote, and a mini fridge.

I like old buildings, so I found it charming, but like I said, it had some quirks. These included: odd vent shafts in the walls, sinks/vanities sometimes outside of the bathrooms, no AC, no elevator, and windows that didn't seem to be able to lock shut. I was originally situated in a ground level room. It and the bedsheets seemed very clean, but I found pretzel crumbs in the bed between the sheets. I had been in transit for 15 hours and was exhausted, so I napped on top of the blankets and asked for a clean set of sheets an hour or so later when I was semi coherent, just to play it safe. The front desk staff seemed pretty annoyed and didn't smile or greet me after that day, but ultimately they transferred me to an unoccupied room on the third floor. That room had a beautiful view of the homes climbing up the hills and the harbor and was blessedly crumb free. Staff grumpiness notwithstanding, I enjoyed my stay there.

Ocean view was fine. Room was clean when we got there but absolutely no service!!!! Lucky to find someone at the desk but had to come down and ask for clean towels. What ever happened to being on Vacation going out for the day to come back and find you room clean, bed made, fresh towels and garbage empty. I am finding more places now that the service is gone!!! Such a shame!!!

We enjoyed staying here! The hotel is quite old, with a lot of character. The room was very, very small, so be prepared for that. Everything was clean and had a nice, clean smell.

Sadly, there was no coffee in the room or even in the hotel! That's almost a deal breaker. Also, no fan in the bathroom which sucks but is kind of common in hotels.

The staff were all very good. The view was excellent - right out to the harbor! It's also only a half block from the main strip/beach so you can't get any more convenient!

The value was really good so if you are trying to stay on a budget, this is a fantastic option.

Room - No room service, no air conditioning, ceiling fan did not work, WIFI connection was slow and dropped out often, the TV remote did not work, the key card did not work half of the time, there were no amenities (no coffee or tea service in the room and no microwave to heat water or food), No coffee or water in the lobby, there is a low-income apartment building next to the hotel so any sea breeze you get smells like marijuana, the toilet did not flush properly. Their is a security door on the ground floor to keep non-guests from accessing the hotel rooms and patio area, but the staff props it open during the day for their convenience and does not shut it at night so anyone can access the hotel (a drunk bum came into the patio area making a bunch of noise on my first night at 1:00 am). I had to shut the gate myself every night after that.
Service - What service? Like I said, there is no room service so if you stay more than two days you will have to hunt down a maid for clean towels. Maids only work between 9:30 am to 12:00 pm. This is important because the hotel does not staff the front desk. The hotel advertises the front desk is staffed from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, but this is not true. Every time I went to the front desk, there was a sign that said \"On Break...call (xxx) xxx-xxxx if it is an emergency\". A number of the other guests complained about it as well.
Location - No real view of the ocean, but the hotel is fairly close to the beach and shopping.

These are quaint older SMALL rooms, but the location is hard to beat. It would be challenging for larger people in some rooms, but for one petite me it was great. The staff was extra kind and helpful. It's no bells and whistles, I don't think the TV even worked, and the water takes a while to heat up, no coffee or water or breakfast offered, but really for the cost it was great.

There is absolutely a dated charm to this spot - while aged, the entire property is clean, well cared for, and for the price, it's unbeatable in its location to downtown Avalon. Room was clean, there was hot water, and the bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept in. Absolutely recommend for a few nights on the island.

Convenient location, walking distance to the main street. Very outdated, very small restroom, room didn’t look or smell very clean, missing standard toiletries, tv didn’t work. Front desk staff not very friendly, housekeeping staff very nice and helpful. It’s a climb uphill to hotel, if on a higher floor be aware there is no elevator.

I couldn’t arrive to the hotel because when you booked they don’t explain that you need to book also the Ferry to get to your destination It was my first time booking hotel at the Island even I tried to contact them couple of times they didn’t answer I explained I couldn’t book Ferry for that day they’re not available they were booked already they just ignored my request for cancellation or get refunded I do even paid extra money for some sort of insurance they offered to prevent this out of your hand situation and for you not to lose your money it was a totally unacceptable situation and wrong decision towards getting my hotel money refunded back

A little too vintage for my husband and I

The hotel itself is a historic vintage hotel with almost no upgrades over the years at all, which adds to the authenticity and quaint feel but There are zero amenities such as coffee makers in room and air conditioning. The ocean view in our room was amazing and almost made it all worthwhile. But the bed and pillows were incredibly uncomfortable and old that neither of us slept at all. If you’re looking for quaint vintage Catalina this is for you but if you’re expecting any amenities or comfort, go elsewhere.

Deep sleepers sleep here

We are light sleepers so the walls being thin made it hard to sleep well, and every door closing, footsteps upstairs was clearly heard. Can't beat the pricing and location though compared to other places. So it's a great deal for deep sleepers.
