I don't like the glass toilet door that doesn't fully shut. Would be nice if I had a microwave too. The a/c is positioned to blow mostly to the head area by the bed, it's not to my liking. The room feels small. If a phone and microwave are present the next time, I'll give it a 5. An extra blanket was present, very much a necessity in winter. The parking situation can be a challenge if there are more cars but they do their best to accommodate all cars. I like that the room has a carpet. First day I got bottled water, that's excellent. The kettle and teas were available in the room. Points on the smart tv but I guess you need your own logins for services like Netflix. Beautiful garden! Stay there for the view of the city, it's one of the best! The staff are friendly and understanding even after I inconvenienced them on something that was entirely my fault.

Hot water for a shower worked sometimes and not at others, even though the management said it was fixed. The offer of an omelette was welcomed as the group ahead of us ate almost all the food. The muffins were great. I expected a room with a view, considering the location. Instead, the fabulous views are reserved for the areas where all guests have access to…great idea. Slow service. Nice employees. Horrible interior design…garish.

The location of Signal Hill Lodge only one kilometre from center of Cape Town is very nice!! If you want to climb up to the lodge from the center - it is not easiest job but luckily you can use also taxi. People in hotel are very friendly and helpful.

The hotel has a beautiful location at the base of Signal Hill with lovely views across the city. It is still quite accessible and walkable to downtown attractions (I was working at the International Convention Centre and could make the walk in 30-40 minutes). The surrounding area is quiet and I felt quite safe walking during the day. The staff are all lovely and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. I have no complaints about the room (not honeymoon standard perhaps but perfectly adequate for business or vacation travel). My only issue was that they must get the lower gate buzzer fixed so guests are not stranded outside!

Signal hill lodge was great. The only downside is that it is not practical to walk to any place with food or shops from this location. I did not have a car so I ended up using Uber everyday.

We had the most incredible 30-day stay at this accommodation! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff, who made us feel right at home. The room was spacious and clean.

Throughout my stay, the housekeeping team ensured everything was kept spotless, maintaining a high standard of cleanliness. The location was perfect, providing easy access to local attractions.

What truly stood out was the exceptional service and attention to detail. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable and memorable. From organizing day trips to recommending local restaurants, they were always there to assist with a smile.

We cannot recommend this accommodation enough. Whether for a short visit or an extended stay like ours, this place will exceed your expectations. We will definitely be returning on our next trip!

My family and I stayed for a week in June. It is spotlessly clean. The rooms are large with balconies overlooking the city, with stunning views. Breakfast was full English or any part of it. Fresh fruit, yoghurt, danish pastries, bread jam, cereal, fruit juice. The Staff are friendly and helpful. The are is quiet and not a sole about at night. It was very good value. I would recommend to anyone travelling to Cape Town

Welcomed by a wonderful lady. Super helpful and efficient. She showed and explained everything in my room and bathroom.
The switch over from shower to washbasin of the water was not to my liking. I couldn’t temperature control my shower. But overseas a great stay. Stunning views.

I first got lost at night on my way to the hotel as the GPS took me to the scary part of Bo Kap. Upon calling the hotel I was given a Noon Gun landmark, which helped a lot. By the time I got to the hotel I was welcome by the friendly night duty staff members. Parking was such a mission though. The rooms are neat and of good quality. The pillows are soft though.The area is peaceful and overlooking the Harbour and Cape Towns. For those that enjoy walking and jogging, it’s a nice place to train for marathons, that is if you enjoy hills.

Only down side comment is , if your on the bottom floor where the kitchen is it’s an early wake up with the staff setting up breakfast.

This lodge has a great view of the city with a beautiful sunrise view. The breakfast was good. It’s a steep walk downtown, but it’s close. It’s quiet with a professional, and friendly staff, very accommodating. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there, and would stay there again.

Sleepless on Signal Hill

I was woken up around midnight with a terrible noise in the room. The night shift employee was unable to identify or solve the issue and I was told there were no other rooms available i.e. I was in for a sleepless night and that was exactly what I got. In the morning, I asked if the issue had been reported and apparently it was not done so. There was also no attempt to offer any sort of compensation when I checked out. In short, I don't recommend it. On the plus side, the location is good and the bed was comfy.

Memorable stay for all the wrong reasons

The hotel itself is not bad, but the surrounding are. To get to the hotel, you need to drive uphill behind Bo-Kaap and pass by a small township. Obviously not everyone in this neighborhood is a delinquent but the reality is that you need to be careful. Even the hotel brochure recommends not to walk at night there.
Anyway, short story is that our rental car was broken into on the first night we arrived (window smashed). The car was parked on the hotel premises, behind a gate with electrical fences.
It would be unfair to blame the hotel for this clearly but I am still a bit upset by the way they handled it. It felt a bit like the staff didn't really care (like, well, that happens...). I also learnt by the receptionist that this particular parking space was in a blind spot for the CCTV and that the outside light was not great on this spot! The parking area of the hotel is really small and because it was full when we came back in the evening, I actually parked where the receptionist told me to!!! (a space that was a little bit apart from the other cars, closer to the street.
Also no word from the owner after the incident...
Had I known more about the area the hotel is located in, I would have thought twice before making a reservation.
A few words on the room: clean, small, and a bathroom with a very odd and inconvenient water system to direct the flow to the basin or to the shower.

A very ice hotel located with a great view and outstanding service. Perfect location for long nature hikes on Signal Hill of 15 minute walk to commercial areas. Stay by the Waterfront a couple of days and then move top this hotel to relax at end of visit. 20 minutes from airport..

Great views, great staff

I originally booked 4 nights at Signal Hill Lodge, and each time we returned to Cape Town - twice more - we booked there again. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. We had a 4am check-out and a 11pm check-in and it was no problem. They called cabs for us, and made great recommendations for us.

We found it a little hard to find, as Military Rd splits in an odd way, but the hillside location gives fantastic views, and it was great to check out the views (and whether we'd be able to get up Table Mountain that day), from the breakfast room. Breakfast in the lodge was optional, which was great for us.

I highly recommend it.

Stunning views and calm and quiet

I was a little worried about how far away Signal Hill lodge seemed once I checked in but the side steps and gate make the walk to the centre easy and quick plus you get to walk through the gorgeous Bo Kaap. Taxis were cheap enough around the city and the staff were very attentive and helpful. The views of the city are stunning and sun set is gorgeous from the bar area. If you want a quiet and almost private experience book this hotel.
Cons were room size and water pressure/system but the staff, comfort and setting made up for this.

Disappointing

The staff was very helpful but that didn't change the fact that the room was small for a superior room and there was a unpractical system to get (hot) water. No view from the two bedrooms we used, a lot of aircon noise and a noisy drain pipe from upstairs right next to my window + people outside late at night and early morning not considering the presence of other guests. I live in SA but the look at some shacks on the way up to the hotel wasn't very comforting. I wouldn't recommend this place despite the really nice staff. Hotel.com overcharged but after my complaint promised to refund the difference.

A very convenient, comfortable and good-value choice. It is within easy walking distance of central Cape Town and with lovely views from the hillside.
Two things to bear in mind, though, are that parking is limited on the premises, and that the area isn't great - I didn't feel completely secure walking into the city even during the day.
However, this is still an excellent choice of hotel.

Shockingly bad experience at this lodge

There was no hot water in my room on one morning and my room was near the Breakfast area which was very noisy from early in the morning. Also, parking on site was not available and I did not feel safe parking my car in the street where they don't even have security keeping an eye on vehicles. Shockingly bad experience here. Would not recommend the place to anyone.
