This hotel was recently purchased. I stay at the Hotel Gabriel every time I go to Paris. It was quaint, great staff, really nice rooms with balconies, good price, great breakfast and a wine bar. The new owners, New Hotel Republique have ruined it. The staff is not friendly OR helpful and my room (a premium room) was dark face a wall and I had to go across the street for breakfast at the sister hotel. DO NOT STAY THERE!

Unfortunately, our stay was extremely disappointing and not at all what I would expect from a 4-star hotel in Paris.

The biggest issue was that the air conditioning did not work during our stay, despite the outside temperature being around 35°C. When we raised the issue with the hotel, the response from management was simply that “the AC is broken” and that they did not know when it would be fixed. That is not an acceptable response for a hotel of this category, especially during a heatwave.

Instead of offering a proper solution, they provided a tiny, dirty fan, which made very little difference. To make matters worse, my wife is pregnant, and the staff showed no real concern or willingness to help make the situation more comfortable for her.

When I asked about compensation, I was told that nothing would be offered and that it was not their issue that the AC was not working. I found this response completely unacceptable and very disappointing from a hospitality perspective.

The elevator also appeared poorly maintained, to the point where we tried to avoid using it whenever possible.

Overall, the experience was awful. The lack of air conditioning, poor handling by management, lack of empathy, and general maintenance concerns made this a stay I would not repeat. I would not return to this hotel, and I would not recommend it to others.

The WORST HOTEL EVER. Thank god I have everything documented and recorded. The AC is not working. There is a current heat wave. The room smells bad because the carpets are not clean. Room full of spiders. I complained, shared frustrated, spoke with three front desk concierge people. They offered a fan but it is HOT AS IF YOU ARE IN A CLOSET WITH NO AIR Ventilation . We got goodies like cheese and butter, and guess what, the fridge is not working.
I escalated this to a lawyer and some journalists/writers who work at Condé nast so they can spread the word about the new management that doesn’t respect guests. They care about money more than quality. It seems this new management has no idea how to run hospitality system. Already notified the bank to block this hotel so I can get my money back for the sleepless nights. We were dripping in sweat. I took videos and photos, and will share everywhere (reddit, TikTok, FB, and IG)
And if they take this review down, I will file a big lawsuit.
(UPDATE MAY 2026 - May 20)
1. AC IS NOT WORKING - according to the night desk concierge, the company has disabled the AC systems across the building.
2. INTERNET/WIFI IS NOT
3. Safety cameras in the building are not working because there has been no working wifi/internet. It is not safe to stay here.
The hotel got acquired by a new company and it seems there is a downgrade in the service. I am going to talk with Expedia now to find a way to get my money back. very dece

We arrived to find our room was tiny. Requested better room which we got. Very slightly larger. Reception did not explain where we would find breakfast, discovered it was over the road two days later. WiFi was also not available until queried with reception. No information pack in the room. Overall not a 4* Hôtel also not new. Dissapointing!

Unfortunately our superior room’s bathroom do not have a shower door and so anytime we wanted to take a shower, the floor outside would flood. Also the plugs in the washroom did not work either. Would call this a 3 star rather than 4 star hotel

Don't fall for the reviews and avoid this place like the plague. My stay here was a nightmare and I'm flabbergasted as to how this hotel got all of its stars.

It's important to note that there are two properties across the street from each other. I was originally placed in \"Maison Albert\", which is an old, dark, and dingy converted apartment building. I don't have the words to describe how terrible it was. Parts of my room felt like an abandoned hostel, and everything was so old, dusty, and even covered in cobwebs. More importantly, the inside temperature of my room was 28C/82F, and I quickly found out that the thermostat didn't work -- the front desk confirmed that the building centrally controls the temperature; \"sorry, it is normal because your room is on the top floor\".

I was then offered the handicap room as the only available switch -- on the bottom floor but right behind the check-in counter and guaranteed to be noisy. I was considering it but then I noticed that the bed was completely broken and slanted at about 30 degrees.

After about 2 hours or arguing and calling Hotels.com for help (between the local hours of midnight and 2am), I was then offered one more room on the 2nd floor. I was told it is out of service but that I could take it if I wished. I took it because it was manageable in terms of temperature and had a solid bed, not understanding why it was out of service. 4 hours later at 7am, construction began in the unit next door with hammering and drilling.

The decor is a bit quirky, but unfortunately the rooms feel dark and outdated. Connectivity inside the room is very poor, even when using the hotel’s Wi‑Fi, which made it difficult to stay connected. Breakfast costs €16, but it does not offer good value for money — the food did not feel very fresh and the selection was limited.

Breakfast was much better than expected given the previous reviews. Fresh fruit/yoghurts. Nice fresh breads, cheese etc. scrambled eggs and lots of pastry choices..Room configuration was strange as had to enter through en-suite to get to bedroom? Toilet cublicke cramped, shower lovely. Bedroom was lovely, but dark. No fridge and remote didn’t match TV but not an issue. Hotel staff very helpful and felt very safe and secure. Ordered shuttle bus for our airport return.

The room was pretty small, for that price and for a four-star hotel, but it was kind of comfortable anyway. I asked for a quiet room, and it was in a quiet corner, though the top of the door was shorter than the frame, so there was a space between that allowed light or noise in. The shower was open, but in a small place, so when you have a shower, you flood the whole bathroom (only sink, the toilet is in a different room) and struggle not to get the carpet in the room wet. The people at the Reception when I arrived and when I left were very polite. However, when I went to discuss a couple of things about my room with the receptionist (Wednesday at 10:00 pm) he was very dismissive and unhelpful. I complained about the fact that when I got back, my window was open (it was 5C outside), he just said that they must have forgotten it open since when they cleaned the room in the morning (no apologies). I asked for more water (you find one bottle of water in the room when you arrive, and that's it), and he told me to get it from the sink. I asked for some tea bags (you find only 3 green tea bags in the room when you arrive), and he told me that he could not give me more tea bags (that is the \"formule\" of the hotel). Overall, the room was ok and I enjoyed it, but I would not go back for the service. I have been to the Ibis hotel around the corner, and I got a bigger room and better service, for a lower price.

This place was honestly a dump. it's marketed as a boutique hotel but the amenities were lacking and everything was damaged. the walls were dirty, paint was chipped, outlets didn't work or weren't installed, there were flies in the room, the toilet ran all night, i can go on...

but the weirdest part is that there is not a single person working at this hotel at night other than a security person who is located in the building across the street. as a solo female traveller, i felt unsafe and just generally really let down by this experience.

i absolutely would not recommend this stay.

I stayed at this hotel multiple times when it was called Hotel Gabriel, and really enjoyed it before. When I checked in this time, I was surprised to be staying in the building across the street from reception. There was a code to let yourself in, but I found it quite spooky as I never saw anyone else in this building. In the evening, it’s a bit dark, and taking the stairs up is also a little scary. A red light automatically turns on as you approach the stairs and the hallways on each floor is so dark. The room itself, was small, but big enough for one person. The bed was very comfortable, unfortunately, my view was not the same as my last stay across the street with a view of the city. I had a view of enclosed buildings which looked into other people’s windows, so I kept the blinds closed the entire stay.

I made sure to wear my slippers at all times as the carpet didn’t seem super clean. This hotel, is though very well located and the staff at reception are friendly

Stayed 28–31 December 2025. On the first night the room had no heating overnight and no hot water the following morning, during winter conditions in Paris. There were no staff present overnight to assist.
The hotel later confirmed in writing that the heating in the room had been turned off. I was verbally promised a refund for that night and a move to a warm room. I was moved to a smaller room to mitigate the situation, but the accommodation on the first night was not fit for purpose.
A partial refund was later offered top cover the smaller room, but this did not cover the failure of service on the first night. I was also disappointed by the reception staff on the final day I booked a car to the airport new years eve - timing was essential because of the traffic. The car didnt arrive, they had zero urgency and in the end I ran onto the street with cases in tow and finally hailed down a cab. I also note that they have two hotel buildings and the other building on the 28th had no electricity AT ALL and there were no staff on reception to deal with the customers who had no room and could not be checked in, cold, waiting and generally miserable. I had no heating or hot water and they had no electricity. I was told that in Paris no one refunds. That isn't French law but it's certainly the attitude. Pretty hotel, poor service and communication. It was overall a really poor and costly stay.

The room was very comfortable with nice linens and a comfortable bed and desk area. they boasted nice views as well. The breakfast buffet was fantastic with lots of great options. The room was extremely small. The amenities were good and so were the staff. The breakfast was good and had good choices. The exception was the pre-cooked scrambled eggs which did not taste natural.
I was disappointed that the receptionist at the hotel collected 15€ just for calling in the taxi for me. The Taxi cost me 60 € instead of 40 €. Uber would have been 30€. The receptionist said it would the same, “they are all the same”.

Everyhting seemed to be great, clean room, good service, it was nice to see people we knew, although we did miss some of the staff who were no longer there. The only minor thing was the bath towels were a bit thin and seemed a little worn comared to what we have experienced in the past.

First of all, I didn’t get the room I booked because it was not available. I ended up in an other building and with a room that was looking old and dated. On top of that, the hotel is under construction and it was super noisy all the time up until 6pm. Very disappointed.

Bed was good. Bathroom was okay but lacked space especially near the toilet. Room also gets a bit too toasty at night. Door locks and knobs on the door are absolutely horrible. Its so difficult to open the doors its crazy. Breakfast was decent. I would have given 4 stars if not for this next issue. When we were checking out we asked if we can leave our small carry on size suitcases for an hour, the woman at reception didnt even make eye contact or say it nicely she just said \"I cant.\" And then we came back a bit later to use the toilet and there were suitcases blocking the way and when we asked to use it she was not accommodating at all and said if you can get through, sure try. Her attitude was horrible. Ive never had hotel reception speak like that to someone staying. Considering that my review feels like i want to give 2 stars but considering everything else its a 3. Stay somewhere else if you want a good experience.

On the corner there is an amazing patisserie. There is an adequate complimentary breakfast at the hotel but skip it for the neighborhood spots.

Good location in the buzzing Marais area. Tons of shops and cafés nearby. Lovely to walk everywhere. Metro very close by too.
We he the premier room which was large by Paris standards. Room had all mod cons.
Breakfast was adequate. Breads, eggs etc. Some fruit apart from banana would be nice.
Staff were efficient not particularly friendly.
There’s a supermarket just around the corner.

Hotel Gabriel is a lovely boutique hotel; clean and very comfortable room; we loved our room with balcony. Nice location within walking distance of Le Marais, l'Arsenale, Bastille market. We could not figure out how to work the tv in our room, but in all fairness, we did not ask the staff for help (and who really needs tv in Paris :-)). This was our second stay, and we look forward to staying again.

I had a wonderful stay at the hotel. As an American visiting Paris for the first time, I found the staff to be patient with my very limited ability to speak French as well as friendly.

The Continental breakfast was lovely and the location is excellent. It is close to the metro and to the bus. There are many dining options as well. I’d definitely stay again!

We booked the Prestige Room after seeing enticing photos on Expedia that clearly showed a private balcony—one of the main reasons we chose this hotel. Unfortunately, upon arrival, we discovered that our room had no balcony, despite what was advertised.

After raising the issue with the front desk, we were offered a smaller room that did include a balcony, but it was a downgrade in size and amenities. To make matters worse, there was a room that matched the original description, but its door was broken and deemed unusable. We were left with no choice but to accept the smaller room.

Throughout this frustrating experience, no compensation was offered for the downgrade or the inconvenience.

I would caution future guests to double-check room details and not rely solely on the photos provided online.

Everything you need in Paris

What an incredible hotel. Everything was wonderful. The chic French setting and design. Room size is ‘cosy’ but that’s to be expected in the traditional building. Everything was super clean, very comfortable bed. Excellent shower.
Fantastic free breakfast with lots of choice.
Extremely friendly & helpful staff.
Super location in the Marais with all its great small boutiques and stylish independent shops.
When I’m next in Paris I’ll be back!

Enjoyed this boutique hotel! So much character and charm. Located on quiet street, rooms are good size with lots of outlets to charge electronics. The bathroom was beautiful and large. There is a lift. Breakfast offered nice variety from pastries to meats and cheeses. Coffee machine made everything from cappuccino to hot chocolate. Staff was super nice and accommodating.

The bathroom was very spacious and I wish we stayed longer. Breakfast was filling and very quiet. Didn’t try a beverage outside of breakfast but appreciated that it was available. Hotel gabriel was so cute! Me and my boyfriend loved the decor, the breakfast, and the general location. So many shops around us, close to many bistros, and close to the metro. I would recommend anyone to stay here, especially if you are planning to use public transportation. The uber could be kind of expensive and a bit far from the eiffel tower, the louvre, and the arc. However, taking the metro was an amazing option. Many times the train was much faster than the ubers. 10/10

This hotel was really a very nice surprise. Very didn't expect it to be this good and they even upgraded our room. The staff was very nice and welcoming and hospitable. The food in the cafeteria well, it wasn't that great, didn't have so much variety, but it was still very nice and cozy hotel.

Great base to explore Paris

This is a lovely hotel in a great area of Paris for jumping on and off the metro to explore the city with some great restaurants and bakery’s nearby.

The hotel room we stayed in was excellent with a huge and comfortable bed and the balcony was an extra bonus on an evening.

The only downside of our room was the shower. We had no hook on the wall for the shower head meaning we had to handhold the head to wash ourselves, sending water everywhere and making it a challenge to shower quickly.

The hotel lift is tiny (as is often the case with old Paris Hotels) so not suitable for people who are claustrophobic and can’t take the stairs.

Staff were all very friendly and helpful and allowed us to leave our cases on leaving day as our train wasn’t until the afternoon.

We would definitely stay here again, hopefully in a room with a proper shower!

Pros:
I liked the decor of the hotel. It felt like old Paris. The rooms were clean and more spacious than others in the city at that price point. The staff during the day were very helpful and pleasant. I had a bathroom that had a tub that was luxurious(worth upgrading to).
Cons:
The man who was at the desk in the evening was brusk, irritable and impatient. The doors to the rooms were very heavy(metal fire doors)and difficult to open with the key. Parking was challenging.

Staff really try to make your stay enjoyable. Rooms are really clean and I’m particular. Only thing I didn’t like is the shower and bath have no door, it’s open concept in the prestige room we had. I was sharing with a friend and that was a little awkward.,
Breakfast is decent .
Great stay. Would stay there again.
