I tried to contact the property numerous times, by text and phone calls, no answer and no reply. I tried to cancel my reservation as France was having a 108°F. 42°C heatwave. The property has no air conditioning, which I knew, but being a deathly record high heatwave there was no way we could have been remotely comfortable. I couldn't cancel. We had to make last minute change of plans for a hotel with air conditioning. The next morning I received a notice that I was billed for the room. Extremely disappointed in the communication and lack of response to my texts.

The hotel is simple, but it’s perfect for spending one night and enjoying the unique experience of staying on Mont Saint-Michel. I would not recommend it for people who have difficulty walking or climbing stairs, as there is quite a bit of walking and many stairs to reach the hotel. We recommend packing a small bag with just what you need for the night instead of bringing large suitcases.

If you’re visiting in the summer, be aware that there is no air conditioning, so it can get very hot during warm weather. However, the location is absolutely beautiful, and the experience is definitely worth it. The staff were very kind and even helped us with our luggage, which we really appreciated.

Avoid Le Mare Poulard. No AC despite a global warning of highest recorded temperatures. One single ineffective table fan - no second one given despite request. Zero ventilation! Extremely difficult circumstances for us 72 & 80 years old couple. We were given a room on the 4th floor. Carried our own bags! Breakfast want fresh except perhaps the Croissant. Horrible experience in a wonderful place.

The room was very clean, well equipped bathroom, very comfortable mattress. The staffs are helpful, one helped carrying our heavy luggage and send to our room on the 4th floor in an uphill building, which we very appreciated. The breakfast is rather simple and basic, not as expected. Overall, it is a very nice hotel in Mont Saint Michel, close and convenient to what you come to. Do need to be prepared for climbing many steps and stores to you room.

Be prepared for stairs if you’re staying in Room 301. The view was fantastic and one of the best parts of the stay. Breakfast was good, and the location on the island is hard to beat.

However, the hotel is showing its age and could use some TLC. The room did not have a safe, and while there is a bathtub, hotel staff informed us that none of the tubs have stoppers, so taking a bath isn’t really possible.

The dining experience was not up to French standards. During dinner, three different servers were unable to tell us what meat was being served on our plate. They even checked with the kitchen and still couldn’t provide an answer. The dining room was also quite warm.

Cleanliness was a concern. There were dead flies in the window seals throughout the hotel. After returning from a hike, we found a random German prescription pill on the floor and another crushed pill nearby. We know this was not related to housekeeping during our stay because we had declined housekeeping service that morning. We reported this to the staff, but the only response we received was that they thought it was strange.

We stayed two nights on the island, and in our opinion, the only restaurant truly worth visiting was Sainte-Catherine.

Overall, the incredible view and convenient location were highlights, but housekeeping, maintenance, and staff knowledge left a lot of room for improvement.

Our room was fabulous. The decor, comfort, and cleanliness of the room was great. We had a kingsize bed with the couch, chairs, a refrigerator with 2 waters, and three windows that opened to the front of the Mont. We were provided with a fan and there was tons of storage space (more than we needed for one night stay). The reason for less than a 5 star is due to a few reasons. One, we did not receive enough toilet paper. They did not start us out with a new roll and only had a small bit on the roll from previous guests. The general cleanliness outside of the room was not great. The breakfast area was a bit gross. The wall next to our table had something spilled all over it which looked to be an older spill that was now sticky. The general free breakfast buffet area was a disaster when we arrived for breakfast with our stay and there were no scrambled eggs left to eat (btw, this is not the same as their main restaurant). The part that bothered me the most was that their water glasses smelled like fish water which made the whole breakfast not enjoyable.

The property is very conveniently located and in an interesting area. The rooms are clean but we had numerous flies. Not sure where they all came from but there were a lot! Other than that, we couldn’t have been happier. Very cool location, the breakfast was incredible and the staff was awesome helping us figure out how to get there. It is a little confusing at first but makes sense once you figure it out.

Beautiful room in a perfect location. Mont Saint-Michel is very touristic, but staying on the island for the night helps you avoid the crowd at night. The only area for improvement would be the check-in process. You have to check-in at Le Relais outside the island, and then again on the island next to the hotel. So it's a lot of back and forth before you're able to get into your room.

Staying overnight at Mont st Michel was a once in a lifetime experience. I would not advise staying on the island to those who are not able to physically climb a whole lot of stairs, those who are heat intolerant (if the weather forecasts a heatwave) or to those who do not enjoy shuttle buses. Not only are there a lot of stairs to get to the hotel, our hotel had no elevator to our 3rd or 4th floor room. This is typical for much of Europe but would be excessive for someone with any health limitations. Remember to contact the hotel prior to your arrival to obtain an access code that allows you to drive to the check in location off island. It was a beautiful Abbey and island but realize the narrow streets will be packed nearly wall to wall with tourists during the day and the shops are all touristy as there are not many island residents. The evening and morning are quiet and lovely but we did decide to take the shuttle off island for dinner the few on island choices did not appeal to us. The room and bathroom were typical for a three star European hotel. No AC and could not stand in the shower due to angled ceiling. I am 5’4”. We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to stay at Mont St. Michel and had a wonderful time. I only posted some of the concerns because I thought others may want to know when deciding where to stay.

While our triple room in the Red House was comfortable, I don't think the higher prices of La Mère Poulard warrants a return for me. Although breakfast was included, it does NOT include the famous omelets of the restaurant. In fact, even though we arrived well before closing time, many breakfast items were already finished, and the service suffered from being understaffed (as seems to be the problem in all of Mont St. Michel). The check-in process was confusing and unclear since we were not given the code for entering the hotel parking lot where we were to leave our car upon approaching. The receptionist was not very friendly in instructing us where we could find an open restaurant to still get a meal near 9 PM. Thankfully, the hotel right up the street was still open and welcoming. And finally, the entrance vestibule area of the Red House needs to be cleaned of the smell of cat pee. All in all, not worth the high price.

The room (305 - La Rouge Maison) was clean with a beautiful view of the harbour. It was one room with large, gorgeous windows, a king-size bed, and a small, separate foyer/entrance with a twin bed. There was a door between them. The bathroom was large with a full bathtub (could fit two!). It was very conveniently located (as is almost everything on the island. The breakfast was substantial and well stocked - croissants, coffee, fruit, eggs, yogurt, cheese, charcuterie and a helpful staff.

Only two issues at this hotel: The carpet was dirty to the point it felt dirty, and the picture for the room online showed a view from the windows of the bay. The room was in the back of the hotel and the window faced the wall of the walkway directly below, not facing the village or the bay. Was told by reception that I reserved a “village view” room, which I didn’t. Nowhere on the reservation did it ask me if I wanted a bay view or village view. Reception said there were no bay view rooms. For our 40th wedding anniversary this was our experience. At least we were able to see the Abbey. So, be careful when reserving and make sure you confirm your room’s location specifically.

We expected the room and bathroom to be small, which they were, so no surprises there. The room was very warm once we closed the windows, though, and there was no air conditioning so we had trouble sleeping. We could've left the windows open, but given that the hotel is right at the entrance of the Mont, it's quite loud outside. Breakfast was chaotic and there was a very loud fire alarm going on for a very long time in the breakfast room, which the staff did nothing to stop. It's an average place to stay for one night, but I wouldn't go back.

Disappointed with our room! We chose a room with the sea view from the photos on the Hotels.com website when choosing the room. These are not the photos of our room though. There is a view of a brick wall not the sea, through the other window you can see part of the terrace that is badly maintained and has a bad smell when opening the window. Terrible sewerage smell in our bathroom, which we had let them know on the first day, but nothing could be done.

There are stains throughout on the carpet and chair. Definitely lack of maintenance in these rooms. Understanding it is old, but not well maintained.
Other rooms are well maintained and look lovely.
We are informed there were no other rooms available for our stay unfortunately. No option to change rooms. The Hotel said it is a booking problem, but the cleanliness is a hotel problem.

Excellent! Pay attention to directions for hotel room. Hahaha. We walked the whole place with all of our bags. Up and down stairs and back to the start to do it again. The build we stayed in was about 50 feet from room you get the keys in. The extra was our fault. Mont Saint Michel. Is a lot of stairs up and down. Just understand, if you are out of shape, it will be tough. We knew this and still hiked it again(without the bags). It was beautiful!!! Day and Night! We also opted for the full board to included dinner and breakfast was included with room. Remember Full board does not mean anything on the menu. It includes certain items. We opted for the omelette. There are many other things to choose that cost extra. In all we loved everthing about the place.(except the hike with bags)

I was surprised not to have a light in the bathroom and had a trouble getting a shower. It might be associated with the cleanliness there, but the bath tub/shower wasn’t cleaned and I found previous guests hairs and it was obviously no cleaning after a previous guest used. When I took a shower, I slipped due to the debris and made a bruise on my leg. Outside of the part, guests should be aware of no elevators in most of accommodations there, no recommendation to bring a large suitcase/luggage. People at the place including tourists are nice and would help each other though.

This was an absolutely amazing place to stay. Completely unbeatable location and a surprisingly spacious room. Property was in impeccable condition. I would definitely come back.
Only two small things lacking. There was an Nespresso machine, but no pods. There wasn't any soap or towels for the kitchenette or downstairs bathroom. Definitely not deal breakers as everything else was spectacular, but I would have at least brought my own pods if I had known.

Right on the island. But that’s not necessarily a plus since nice photos are taken on the bridge which is 350m from the island. So it’s a 5-10 minute walk anytime you want to “see” MSM. It’s easier to get that Instagram shot if you stay on mainland.

The condition of the hotel is dated and poor. I know their disclaimer “it’s a historic hotel”, but that’s not a license NOT to change room carpet which looks to be about 20 years old and has not been vacuumed for a while.

The room is dark (ok I know it’s historic, but how about a brighter LED bulb?) How about not using dark grey wallpaper? I Cannot see things on the floor under dim light as the old carpet is dark grey as well.

Heaters in the room & bathroom not operational. And no AC.

Our “view room” has a 2 ft wide window looking at the parking and the bridge - a far cry from “bay view” as advertised. Be careful when you book a “bay view” room.

Reception is not at the hotel & is 1 block away where you have to go up a flight of stairs to get your key, then walk back down and up the street back to the hotel. Hotel is above the restaurant, but entry to hotel not marked. When you ask the restaurant ppl, they send you back to the reception down the street instead of telling you to enter thru a small unmarked door next to restaurant.

The only nice thing is the breakfast. Nice selections and good service.

Wasn’t expecting a 5 star hotel experience but when you charge people 5 star hotel price there’ some basic expectations.

They use misleading advertising, the photos they show of the place to offer their rent, are not the place where I stayed. The place had a strong and nauseating smell and the window could not be opened, because the door is left open all night, my window overlooked a dirty and dark place, close to the cemetery. This hotel is located at the entrance so it’s very convenient. There are a significant amount of stairs so be prepared for that. The rooms are cute, beds are somewhat comfortable and the tv worked! Only real downfall was the restroom-it smelled terrible and I’m sure it was due to the very old plumbing but the smell was pretty awful. I hope it was just my room. Mont St Michel is amazing though and I had a wonderful time.

Breakfast was outstanding, the bathroom attached to the room was excellent and had a separate shower and tub. Bed was comfortable and you get two pillows per person (which we have found is rare for Western Europe).

Le Mont Saint Michel is beautiful with great history. Our room was clean and well sized, but directions for parking, room location and provided breakfast were very unclear. Clearer instructions would have been appreciated.

We had an AMAZING room with amazing view of the bay - to reach our room we had to take the stairs to the 4th floor - well worth it though - breakfast was good

Very pleasant stay!
The hotel is actually three separate buildings, so you don't automatically get a room in the initial hotel above the famous restaurant.
Only critique I would have is that we weren't given the hotel's six digit reservation code so we weren't able to enter the closest parking lot and had a long walk to the shuttle bus; but that may be Expedia's fault, not the hotel's, can't say for sure.
All in all, a lifetime experience, we loved it!

A spectacular stay.

My expectations were for an old hotel in a beautiful setting. But the room was new and gorgeous with every modern accessory. The view from the three large windozs was stunning, and the bedding materials were very high quality. I will definitely return.

The hotel says that it is 3 stars, but I would struggle to give it 1.5 stars. The reception area was dingy and the carpet looked filthy. The room was tiny, the toilet seat was broken, the bed was soft, lumpy and slanted downward so it felt like I was falling out of it. Some of the pillows had a musty smell and it didn’t seem all that clean. I have paid less for 4 and 5 star hotels that actually deserved their stars. Unfortunately this is what you get if you want to stay on the island, a sub-par hotel with an inflated price tag. But it’s worth staying on the island for one night. Just don’t expect the hotel to be anything more than barely ok.

I wasn't disappointed because I didn't expect much. But if you are like me and are taking the hotel just to stay in the abbey, there is another option. Come in the evening an hour before closing. All the beautiful locations will be available. If you are ok with the smell of the old furniture and dust, uncomfortable beds and tourists giggling at the windows - I have warned you. I understand the concept of preserving the past, but in this case it seems like not willing to spend on renovation.
