There was no working light outside the hotel main door, dark at nite going up the stairs. Room smelled probably from bathroom. There was a lot of constituents materials right ousting visible from window and coming into building. Ad on hotel.com website showed a room to a bay view. This wasn’t the case

The room was clean and had a beautiful view. The carpet was a little dated, and the window sill could use a fresh coat of paint, but the bathroom was nicely updated and the bedding was new and clean. The front desk was friendly and helpful. The restaurant staff was wonderful!

This was an absolutely amazing place to stay. Completely unbeatable location and a surprisingly spacious room. Property was in impeccable condition. I would definitely come back.
Only two small things lacking. There was an Nespresso machine, but no pods. There wasn't any soap or towels for the kitchenette or downstairs bathroom. Definitely not deal breakers as everything else was spectacular, but I would have at least brought my own pods if I had known.

Right on the island. But that’s not necessarily a plus since nice photos are taken on the bridge which is 350m from the island. So it’s a 5-10 minute walk anytime you want to “see” MSM. It’s easier to get that Instagram shot if you stay on mainland.

The condition of the hotel is dated and poor. I know their disclaimer “it’s a historic hotel”, but that’s not a license NOT to change room carpet which looks to be about 20 years old and has not been vacuumed for a while.

The room is dark (ok I know it’s historic, but how about a brighter LED bulb?) How about not using dark grey wallpaper? I Cannot see things on the floor under dim light as the old carpet is dark grey as well.

Heaters in the room & bathroom not operational. And no AC.

Our “view room” has a 2 ft wide window looking at the parking and the bridge - a far cry from “bay view” as advertised. Be careful when you book a “bay view” room.

Reception is not at the hotel & is 1 block away where you have to go up a flight of stairs to get your key, then walk back down and up the street back to the hotel. Hotel is above the restaurant, but entry to hotel not marked. When you ask the restaurant ppl, they send you back to the reception down the street instead of telling you to enter thru a small unmarked door next to restaurant.

The only nice thing is the breakfast. Nice selections and good service.

Wasn’t expecting a 5 star hotel experience but when you charge people 5 star hotel price there’ some basic expectations.

They use misleading advertising, the photos they show of the place to offer their rent, are not the place where I stayed. The place had a strong and nauseating smell and the window could not be opened, because the door is left open all night, my window overlooked a dirty and dark place, close to the cemetery. One of the worst places I have ever been in my life!

This hotel is located at the entrance so it’s very convenient. There are a significant amount of stairs so be prepared for that. The rooms are cute, beds are somewhat comfortable and the tv worked! Only real downfall was the restroom-it smelled terrible and I’m sure it was due to the very old plumbing but the smell was pretty awful. I hope it was just my room. Mont St Michel is amazing though and I had a wonderful time.

Our room was up several flights of stairs probably 70-80 in all but thats to be expected on the island. Breakfast was outstanding, the bathroom attached to the room was excellent and had a separate shower and tub. Bed was comfortable and you get two pillows per person (which we have found is rare for Western Europe).

Very pleasant stay!
The hotel is actually three separate buildings, so you don't automatically get a room in the initial hotel above the famous restaurant.
Only critique I would have is that we weren't given the hotel's six digit reservation code so we weren't able to enter the closest parking lot and had a long walk to the shuttle bus; but that may be Expedia's fault, not the hotel's, can't say for sure.
All in all, a lifetime experience, we loved it!

The hotel says that it is 3 stars, but I would struggle to give it 1.5 stars. The reception area was dingy and the carpet looked filthy. The room was tiny, the toilet seat was broken, the bed was soft, lumpy and slanted downward so it felt like I was falling out of it. Some of the pillows had a musty smell and it didn’t seem all that clean. I have paid less for 4 and 5 star hotels that actually deserved their stars. Unfortunately this is what you get if you want to stay on the island, a sub-par hotel with an inflated price tag. But it’s worth staying on the island for one night. Just don’t expect the hotel to be anything more than barely ok.

I wasn't disappointed because I didn't expect much. But if you are like me and are taking the hotel just to stay in the abbey, there is another option. Come in the evening an hour before closing. All the beautiful locations will be available. If you are ok with the smell of the old furniture and dust, uncomfortable beds and tourists giggling at the windows - I have warned you. I understand the concept of preserving the past, but in this case it seems like not willing to spend on renovation.

Spending two nights on Mount Saint Michelle is a wonderful experience. Once the crowds of the day have disappeared it is nice to still walk the cobble streets and enjoy the atmosphere of this place. The hotel is classy and a good place to stay.

There is some confusion about where to register for your Knights accommodation and where to have breakfast, but we finally worked that out.

The view is fantastic from a bay view room. I was a bit confused however and felt the property played a switcheroo with us. We booked a bay view room. Upon arriving, we were given a room in another hotel on a back walkway with zero view. My husband went back to the office to inquire and was told if we wanted a bay view it would be an additional fee. We paid it. This is a once in a lifetime experience and doubtful we will get back here since its thousands of miles from home. The fine print in the reservation does say they reserve the right to put you in a different room however I felt we were taken advantage of. We already paid for the view.
It is gorgeous! You do need to pay attention to the email you receive stating where to go to check in. Its well marked. Also pay attention where to park. Also, do not let the stories of all the steps scare you! Im fat and out of shape and i did it! You can do it! There are a lot of stairs but also a lot of landings. Its easy to rest a bit. And you have to spend the night after the crowd leaves. It was great exploring in the evening and watching the tide come in!

Absolutely gorgeous location! We could walk around Mont Saint Michel at night and it was so incredible to view the island this way.

The only qualm was that the room was very hot with a fan, and our room was on the ground floor so we couldn’t really open the windows. This was a small inconvenience though for being able to stay in such a gorgeous location.

This was a special stay, not for the quality of the accommodation but because of it's location and history.

Room was fairly basic but a view to die for, just spectacular.

Mt St Michel is magnificent, at night it becomes magical. The abbey lit up at night was amazing.

La mere Poulard was ok, friendly reception and good sized, old fashioned room with important fridge, bottled water and fan (essential for the summer).

Breakfast was good, eggs, bacon, charcuterie, fresh pastries and breads and freshly made gluten free bread.

The rooms are dripping in history.

Worth it just to experience the Mt and Abbey at night and early morning before it is swamped with visitors.

Very poor check in service. You need a code to access the car park and are told to call the hotel on arrival. No one answered the phone. Luckily the security guard was happy to let us through. Despite being told to return at 4 to get our room key, no one turned up until 4.10. Security for left luggage extremely poor.
There was a short power cut in the evening. No one provided any information. My husband went to Reception, but there was no one available at all. Luckily the power returned fairly quickly.
Breakfast was nice enough.
Poor decor ... in need of an update.

I was hesitant about staying on the island due to the reviews however, I pulled the plug and WOW what an amazing experience in so many ways! I fell in love with the hotel, the island, its people, the staff. Truly beautiful and lively experience. Particularly at night when all the tourists were mostly gone it felt like just for a moment I was at home. This experienced truly ignited a spark in me to take a leap and finally transition back to where my ancestors were born in France and Spain. Thank you to the staff that make this place so special and magical!

I recently had the pleasure of staying at La Mère Poulard hotel, and everything about the experience exceeded my expectations. From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm, welcoming, and professional. The check-in process was smooth, and we were given all the information we needed to enjoy our stay.

The room was spotless and incredibly comfortable. The bed was cozy, the linens were fresh, and the amenities were thoughtful – everything from the toiletries to the in-room coffee and tea was high quality.

What stood out most was the attention to detail and the genuine hospitality.

The location was perfect AND THE VIEW from our room was spectacular – close to everything we wanted to see but also peaceful enough for a restful night’s sleep. Breakfast was another highlight: fresh, varied, and delicious, with something for every taste.

We left feeling relaxed, cared for, and already looking forward to our next visit. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a memorable and comfortable stay!

If there was an option to give a negative star rating I would select that but 1 star is as low as I can go.
-room wasn’t available until (5:00) well after our check in time (4:00)
-dirty lobby (stains on the sofa, dirty carpet)
-hallway to our room was disgusting
-our room was disgusting, stains all over the walls, dusty, fridge had something growing in it, stained mattress, stained bedding, something that looked like human waste wiped on the side of the bed
We left and requested for our money back.

Booked a double room and was given a twin bedded rooms. When I complained I was told they were fully booked and that was all that was available. The Hotel claimed Expedia for the error.
Condition of rooms were very tired with older decoration and in particular the bathroom.
Breakfast was average with a lack of choice. There was no information about the area within the hotel and generally there appeared to be a lack of care. On checking out my partner asked to use the toilet and was directed to the public WC’s. Overall a poor experience especially for the price charged.

Given the age and location of the hotel, it is important to keep realistic expectations. But, there is never an excuse for bugs, regardless of age. The room was filled with flies. On the positive side, the staff was kind, the sheets and bathroom clean, and the water was high quality. The location is one of a kind, so just accept that and you will find the rooms to be tolerable for a night or two.

The room wasn’t ready until 4 pm & it was on the fifth floor. Nice view from the window but tough getting up there with no elevator. We are both over 75 years old. The shower was only a hand held in the tub so difficult to use. Location was great, first hotel as you come into town but very noisy in the morning as all the trucks arrived early to unload supplies for the shops & restaurants. No AC so we had to sleep with the windows open. Breakfast was very nice. Great variety & wonderful coffee machine with several choices.

We came to stay at Mont St Michel and see the abbaye. The check-in process was crazy easy! Our room was up a few flights of stairs so if you are handicap/wheelchair bound or unable to walk stairs I recommend not visiting Mont St Michel. The entire mont is hills and stairs. Upon entering our room we realized there was no AC (it’s June!). If planning to visit you might want to plan your visit around the fall or spring when the weather is cooler. The evenings cool off but the days are warm. Our hotel was nice but basic, don’t expect frills. There were no bathroom amenities (lotion, shower cap, cotton pads, tissues, etc), no shower curtain or shower door (water everywhere when showering), the toilet was next to the shower and very cramped, no robe or slippers, and no fan to help circulate air in absence of AC.

Our stay in Mont Saint-Michel was a pleasant and terrific surprise. While I anticipated a medieval castle environment, I found the preservation of the entire environment to be astoundingly well done. The village and abbey are wonderful places to explore. We arrived late in the day (around 5p) and left the following day around noon. Short exploration before dinner and then visit to the abbey in the morning weee adequate but we could have planned a few extra hours to spend more time meandering in the village. Overall a great experience.

Memorable Stay, Incredible View and Vibe

We loved staying on Mont St. Michel. Being on the island once the masses of tourist buses have departed for the day made the experience feel very magical. The hotel itself was fantastic. The room was very clean and full of character, with historic touches but still modern furnishes. The bathroom had 2 different showers (a larger bathtub shower combo and a smaller stand up stall shower). Laying in bed we could look out over the rooftops of the historic village and onto the mud flats and the bay.

Note that a stay here includes climbing LOTS of steps — pack light. To get to our room from street level, it required climbing 125 steps (around 90 exterior steps to get to the building where the room was and then another 35 inside the building to get up to the room). For us, for the view and the feeling of being removed from the real world, it was completely worth it. But definitely not a good option if you can’t handle climbing stairs. Breakfast was good, and is back at street level in a separate building.

Climbed another flight of steep stone steps to access the \"green door\" which led to a further 4 flights of stairs up to a small room. Room was tired, in need of a deep clean, thick dust around carpet edges/skirting boards. Toilet seat was not secure. Shower over bath, no shower curtain/screen. Hand soap dispenser broken. Bed/bedding/towels clean and satisfactory. Kettle provided with 2 sachets of coffee. Fridge not working and no bottled water provided. I would not recommend this hotel, oversold and undelivered

Amazon room with a beautiful view. It’s a lot of stairs but well worth it. Also the restaurant is amazing. Have the duck or the omelette. We will return!!!

There was a smell coming from the room. We complained about it and asked multiple staff members to come take a look and they all refused. It turns out the toilet was leaking and the smell waa from coming from the sewer pipe. Would not stay there again.

Parking is far away. Take a shuttle and then walk with luggage uphill.
Property is very old. Furniture is very old.
No AC. Open window allowed a lot of flies to come inside.
Friendly personal.
I would recommend to stay on a land and come to an island for a day
