This hotel pretend to be a 5 star hotel: first room we got was stinking from molded and humidity. The second one was ok. This used to be a 5 star hotel and you can see that. I will give it no more than 3. Price was good.

This hotel is excellent! The rooms are a little dated but we still had a wonderful stay! They have a shuttle bus that runs into town several times a day which was very convenient. My only complaint was the coffee- awful! But there is a wonderful pizza place right around the corner that made the best cappuccino that we had our entire trip! Will definitely stay there again!

This at one point in time was a grand luxurious place but now it is too big for number of guests staying there. Buffet breakfast is not very good and coffee is horrible (drip coffee in ITALY?). Breakfast outside would be nice. On plus side very charming , old style italian experience rooms and decor great dinner views and away from busy centro.

Yes this place may have been 5-stars 20 years ago, when the staff were still young and the pillows were still fluffy. Nowadays it could use a top to bottom makeover, from the stinky vestibule, to the stiff beds and rough linens. Everyone is grumpy, the bus drivers, the front desk, especially the old night shift. Staff entered our room unannounced on the daily every morning, with us still sleeping in bed. Towels were thin and dirty, I had someone's hair or makeup on each new towel I received. Front desk is rigid and unaccomodating, and the night shift just stares at you grumpily. Most importantly, they don't like anyone lounging in the lounge area, we got kicked out with a wagging finger twice. This place is overpriced for the rusty hardware, unfriendly staff, and the rockhard pillows you get, plus the furniture is just hideous. Lastly, not a single sidewalk in a one-mile radius, this place is NOT walkable, matter of fact, you'll be risking your life getting around without a ride. The pool is nice, but my family will NOT be returning to enjoy it, because it's not open long enough in the evening. Honestly, I just felt like I was back in grade school, being watched and chastised constantly. Sad and spoiled vacation.

It’s a classic, beautiful hotel. The staff was wonderful and the breakfast was very good. The ocean view room has a panoramic view of the water but from around 2-3 miles away. Our room was small, bathroom was very small with no curtain for the shower. It only has a 3-foot glass instead making it hard not to get the floor wet. The bed and pillows were horrible. The location was isolated and you couldn’t walk to any restaurants. However, they offered free scheduled shuttle to the town.

It is a nice hotel and very close to Sorrento (ferry station to Capri. There is a free parking parking (on-site). Rooms are clean and nice. Very quiet area. We did not happy only with breakfast.

Worn and old fashion

Everything is old and worn in this hotel. Doubt it is 5 star hotel. Room was cleaned every day but that does not help if carpet and wallpaper is not changed in years. Towels were clean but worn, thin and discolored after many years of use. First day shower was not working, but repaired next day. Streets are not very walkable, but luckily hotel provides shuttle bus to Sorento, although I would like to be more often.

The Grand Hotel La Pace is visually beautiful. It is located just outside Sorrento and provides regular shuttle service to and from Sorrento. The service is formal and helpful. We enjoyed our stay.

Good facilities but a little old-fashioned. Carpets need to be replaced. Breakfast buffet is basic; maybe more Italian standard than IRL/UK version. Staff very helpful and willing. Location is not ideal. Shuttle is a life-saver although times need to be more frequent as walking to Sorrento is quite hazardous due to lack of footpaths ( definitely not fault of hotel!)

Happy times in the sun

Very grand interiors. Nice bars - excellent staff and good food in the restaurant.

We had probably the worst rooms in the hotel 201 and 202. But even these were spacious and comfortable - though no view at all (we looked directly at a wall!) None the less we were really close to the pool area which was convenient.

We thought the restaurant was lovely with good and varied, tasty food. Wine is provided as part of the all-in package: in our view the White was a bit grim; the Red was OK and the Prosecco actually quite good.

The shuttle bus is really helpful to get in and out of town - as taxis really expensive. Public transport, is very cheap.

The hotel gym is nice but would benefit from heavier free-weights or some weight based machines to complement the cardio equipment.

All the staff were helpful - but bar staff in particular were good and made lots of entertaining cocktails (all part of the inclusive deal - great!!)

Overall a good experience.

We knew the room would not have a sea view, however pidgeon poo was not the view we extpected - on the window cill and on all the surfaces of the timbers supporting the not started demolition project next door.
When asked if we could swop rooms we were advised "we are full, please ask tomorrow morning", and then advised "we are full, please ask this evening". We overheard this same stuck record message given to 6 other couples, so well rehersed!
Suggest you check which rooms are being offered for sale before committing - not good

No Room at the Inn, Happy Ending

When we arrived they told us there were no rooms available even though we had confirmed reservations! Rooms had been organized for us at the nearby Hotel Alimuri which was very good, beach-front location although further from Sorrento, and full board at the same price as the Grand Hotel.
Somebody messed up but I believe we got a good deal in compensation.

The hotel itself is beautiful, in a stunning location. The staff were all lovely and very helpful. We were very disappointed, however, when we arrived to our room. We felt like we were put in the crappiest room in the hotel. It smelled old and musty, there was no window and barely big enough for the bed. The bed was the worst part of our stay. It's 2 twin puts put together, but nothing holding them together. The mattresses were hard as rock and the pillows felt 20 years old with no cushion. When we tried to see if there were other rooms available (seeing as how this was our anniversary) we were told the hotel was completely booked. But then we heard from other guests that is apparently what they say. So I'm not sure what's going on there. I guess my recommendation would be, that if you're going to stay at this hotel, make sure you have a large room with a window/view.

Where to begin... Total disappointment. Room: Hard pillows (asked for soft, they didn´t have...) Shower/bath area a disaster, so discusting I couldn't´t bring myself to have a bath. Shower head sorely needed changing. etc etc. Amenities equivalent to what you get at 3-4 star hotels. Set up for all-inclusive, so having a small meal a-la-carte was difficult. No English channels on TV, only Italian. This is acceptable at a 3 star hotel, but not at a "5-star". I could write more.......

Very Good Hotel in the Sorrento - Amalfi Area

We had a very lovely stay at La Pace. The staff was available, efficient, courteous, and accommodating. As my husband and I were taking my parents on this trip to the Amalfi Coast, the hotel and rooms were extremely comfortable for their needs and likes and they were very happy. (We probably would have chosen more of a boutique hotel that was more modern.) That said, both of our rooms were bumped up to suites which was very sweet indeed. Breakfast was plentiful but could have had some healthier alternatives and some variation from day to day. The woman making omelettes practically seemed like she was a zombie. The staff at the front desk was extremely helpful and answered every question or met every request quickly, effectively and with a smile. The hotel could really garner another star if they put a little more effort into it. There was a bit of a dowdy feel if you looked around a bit. The carpets throughout really should be replaced, the spa area was positively depressing (not that we were there for a spa experience), the deck around the pool was desperately in need of repair or refurbishment. Like I said, this was a good hotel and a very good value for the money. But, with just a bit of thought and effort this could have been a truly luxurious experience and it wouldn't have taken a lot to make that happen.

First look from the outside, the hotel looks as a palace as well as the lobby. The staff at the information desk were very nice and all smiles and very polite. Rooms are comfortable but when you open the window, all you see is a house in ruins with plants growing everywhere, like a haunted house. I mean they could have planted some trees to hide this macabre sight. These rooms were advertised as mountain view. Since our rooms were underneath the restaurant, we knew when it closes. You can hear all the chairs and tables moving around 11/midnight. The worst was the breakfast. Very little choice, worthy of a 1 star hotel. Ham, one choice of cheese, diluted orange juice, eggs, pancakes, cookies and everything related. Half the time, coffee pot was empty and had to ask to fill it. The staff at the restaurant were loud speaking to each other. They do their job like they were underpaid. The hotel is 15 minutes walk to downtown but since it's on a hill, it's tiring to walk back at night. They have a free shuttle bus that always shows on time as scheduled. The reason we chose this hotel was because it's a five stars and it has a parking lot.

Grand is a very apt description for the hotel

Whilst the hotel is beautiful and set in a lovely, if inaccessible location, it could do with some TLC in certain areas. The pool area in particular urgently needs attention with rotten decking and in general disrepair letting down what is an otherwise stunning setting.5 stars is definitely flattering.
Reception staff excellent friendly and helpful and the hotel is very clean impressive and set in beautiful surroundings.

Despite it's impressive facade and lovely setting I wouldn't recommend the location for people with mobility issues as the walk from town to the hotel set in this hills is quite an arduous one albeit the regular shuttle to the main town of Sorrento (some 1 mile away is a godsend).

Staff unbelievably friendly and welcoming. Stunning entry to hotel, dining areas beautiful but corridor carpets worn, some of the pool area a little tired and bathrooms could do with updating. Shuttle super to and from Sorrento (with a taxi costing minimum €25 highly advised!) but unfortunately this did map out your day a little as you worked around shuttle times. Wifi terrible! Food was great both at breakfast and evening meal. A nice stay

Not a good value for money!

Our stay was not pleasant at all. We had 2 rooms both of them facing a very old and ugly wall which was literally 2-3 meters away. The rooms are old and generally only the lobby of the hotel is nice this is a tired hotel in need of refurbishment. Breakfast is not good at all. The staff were friendly and tried to be helpful but the shortcomings are from the hotel management.

This hotel is in a quiet residential area. They have a good shuttle bus service. The breakfast was nice with plenty of selection, and the service fantastic. It's very upmarket in places but the condition of the rooms, balcony and carpets is more fitting of a four star hotel. I loved Sant'Agnello but would stay closer to the beach next time.

The hotel is a little dated however the staff was one of the best. Very accommodating, polite and willing to go out of their way to please. The breakfast is average with not alot of selection. Fresh fruit really wasn't good and often served canned fruit. Wifi rarely worked. The best things about this hotel were location and the staff. A 3-4 star hotel with a 7 star staff.

Great value for money in my opinion. Very clean, friendly staff. Shuttle bus to Sorrento is an excellent service. Couple of nice places too down the hill in St Agnello.
It wouldn't merit 5 stars by Irish standards but still a lovely hotel. Evening meal was lovely, musicians playing most nights.
I really enjoyed my stay, hotels in the area are expensive I feel that we got a good deal on GH La Pace. Any people in the hotel we met all seemed to be happy with their hotel choice except for one American woman who had a passion for complaining

One of the nicer hotels

The hotel was nice, and had a beautiful reception but it was at least a 35 min walk from the centre. They do offer a shuttle service but it's limited.

I found the hotel expensive to eat or drink at and very limited, ie no bar snacks etc. The nearest array of shops or cafes is 10 min walk.

Sorrento is beautiful and we didn't mind walking, but I would maybe advise saying closer

The service charges & fees were significantly higher than other hotels that I had booked in the area with no real explanation why. The light lunch was overpriced, the breakfast was extremely simple and the scrambled eggs were inedible. We had booked two nights with half board and did not try the dinner after seeing how disappointing the lunch & breakfast were.

Don't judge the hotel from the outside.

The hotel rooms have not been updated my guess since it was opened. The rooms needs a total makeover. The rooms are in terrible condition. The staff is extremely friendly with the desire to help and assist in anyway possible. By all means take only the ocean view. Although they have a shuttle to town and it's only six kilometers (apx 4 mile) if you need a cab it will set you back 28.00 euro. They have a great pool. The wooden deck around pool needs to be replaced. The safe in the room is not tied down to anything. You could put the safe in your luggage and take it home with you.

3* rooms behind a 5* lobby

Very opulent looking hotel at first glance. A nice feel to it and the staff are very friendly and always willing to help. The rooms on the other hand were a bit of a let down. Very basic and tired looking and in much need of an update. Having said that if you just want somewhere to sleep they are adequate, although the bed was really uncomfortable, being two singles pushed together but not joined so every morning they had parted company. If you want any kind of view from your room you need to upgrade as there's not much to look at around the rear of the building. Nice pool with a bar close by but again the decking area was crumbling and in need of a freshen up. The food was of good quality and breakfast had a varied selection. Has a small gym but the jacuzzis and saunas are his and hers meaning a married couple will be in seperate rooms..a bit strange. There is ample free parking outside and although they offer a free shuttle bus to town they are not very frequent so because of its location getting your own transport is adviseable but not for the faint hearted as the roads are a little skinny and the locals a little nuts when driving. Piazzo tasso..the main square in town is about a 25 to 30 minute walk but hilly and very few paths so be warned. The taxis charge €20 to €25 for a one way trip depending on time of day so bear this in mind.
Overall this hotel was a pleasant stay but in reality it should be a 4*

Hotel La Pace

The hotel is quite a distance from Central Sorento, (around 4 kilometers- not 1.5) and is ONLY saved by the presence of a shuttle bus, which does not often have the most convenient times.

A walk to St Agnello is about 10 minutes but the narrow road is quite hazardous with Italian drivers as they are.

St. Agnello does not have much to offer in terms of restaurants or bars, so it is essential to go to sorento for entertainment.
Pompeii, Ercolanum, Mount Vesuvious, and tours to Amalfi and Capri are all easily arranged, but can be expensive, so do your homework first, and if you go to Capri, make sure you get to AnaCapri and the Chair lift.

Brillinat stay at Grand Hotel La Pace.

Our stay in Grand Hotel La Pace was as good as we could expect it to be and more. The hotel itself was clean and comfortable and quiet grand, I must add. The staff was warm and welcoming, to say the least. We really felt like the staff was genuinely pleased to host us which, these days, isn't that common. They went out of their way to make us comfortable and provide us with whatever we needed. There was a gentleman at the reception, who took our luggage to the room, a lady from the reception took us up to the room and ensured we were comfortable. They even baked us cookies, no REALLY, they did. My wife fell in love with the welcome cookies they served us when we entered and had to have some to take home. Unfortunately, they didn't have a bakery where they sold the cookies, so they went way out of their way and had the chef bake a batch especially for us, so we could take them back with us. THAT is what I call going out of your way to please a guest. Keep up the good work guys, you guys definitely rock!

The lobby is beautiful and so is the pool area. The room itself is nice with lots of inlaid wood furniture. However the smell of smoke was awful. We had to sleep with the windows open all night just to stand it. We mentioned it to the staff upon arrival and they dismissed us, saying all the rooms were nonsmoking and smelled the same.

The woman who checked us in was a really nice, helpful and charming lady who gave us every instruction for getting into town and what to do. The hotel shuttle service is extremely limited, with he last shuttle coming back from town at 8pm. It was about a 2 mile walk to the center piazza.

They had a very nice breakfast buffet.

Superb hotel with peaceful surroundings

This hotel is excellent. It was my second stay and I will be going back. The draft are friendly and attentive. The food is amazing. My only complaint is I feel the rooms should have tea/coffee making facilities. At least in the suites, which I had and this was not available. Also my previous room was a standard panoramic view room and included a safe but the suites did not?? Just didn't seem consistent with in room facilities.

Hotel a bit out of town

This is a good hotel with excellent staff. Breakfast was continental or cooked and not bad at all. Dinner was excellent but a tad expensive for what it was. The main problem with this hotel at this time of year (end October) is that it is too far out of town when the pool cannot be used (it was drained down) and a bit too cold for lounging. To get into town you could either walk for half an hour or get the free shuttle bus. Times of the bus were not great in the evening as it got you to town either too early or too late. We were ripped off for 20 Euros for a taxi so travel in and out was very constraining. However it was a pleasant hotel generally and not that expensive for a wonderful Bay of Naples view. We loved our stay at the hotel, clean towels, bed linen every day. Spacious room and en suite bathroom. Hotel staff were very courteous especially the two girls and young lad on reception along with the young girl in the bar. The reception staff were excellent, when we needed help booking restaurants and taxi's. The hotel is just outside Sorrento so is very peaceful. There is a free shuttle bus to and from Sorrento. Transport links are very good and the station is within walking distance so easy connection to Naples, Pompeii. There are plenty of seating areas in the hotel to relax and use free WIFI. And the pool area is lovely with great views and there is also a snack bar and poolside towels.We used the restaurant only once as we wanted to experience different venues for food, however if we were staying more than a week we would have used again the food was excellent. We had buffet breakfast included in our package and this again had good choice. The only criticism was we had a small balcony but as our trip was mainly to get out and see Pompeii, the amalfi coast and Capri there wasn't much time left to sit on the balcony. Lovely hotel. I little off the beaten track. They offer a free shuttle service into Sorrento, however, the shuttle does not run in the afternoon at all, which we found inconvenient. The food was very good; my only complaint was that when I ordered a caffe latte at breakfast, they would not bring me one and told me to mix my milk and coffee myself from the buffet (yet they would bring a cappuccino). Very odd - especially in Italy!

Reception staff very helpful, quick to check us in and excellent porter.

Though on website it said all rooms have balconies it failed to say it was a French balcony which is not big enough to sit out on! Our balcony faced on to undergrowth, not panoramic views as expected.

Maid service was very good.

Breakfast disappointing.

Not within easy walking distance of main Sorrento though shuttle buses laid on regularly but you had to organise your days/evenings around pick up times. Not ideal/

Ok hotel

The Hotel overall is Ok. Its not far from Sorrento and offered fun excursions. Families with children use this Hotel which I found disappointing. The pool area is small, so the children who play all day long you cant really escape from.
The food menu was so expensive, me and my partner chose to eat out of the hotel.
But the evenings where pleasant.

I'm not in a rush to revisit this hotel, but this part of Italy is beautiful.

Not a 5 stars hotel at all

Swimming pool is too small and nothing compared to the pics they show! No good coffee for breakfast when coffee is one of the best things in Italy! Towels for swimming pool are not in good condition. They have shows at night which are not good at all. No free wifi in rooms and free wifi in common areas doesn't work at all. They charged us two mineral waters and a drink we never had! This is just not a 5 stars hotel ... Too expensive for a 3 stars hotel. Waitresses at breakfast are nice! Pillows are not conforable at all. It's clean. Receptionist was not nice when we did the check out; she thought we lost one of the tickets they gave us the first day to get towels in the swimming pool when they had only given us only one for the two rooms. Nice hotel but they should have charge half price of what they charge!

Relaxed ambience

A hotel is as good as its staff and surroundings. For a holiday hotel both were perfect. Whilst the hotel was a little way out of Sorrento the bus shuttle was more than adequate and acted as a discipline which enabled the group to make the most of all the attractions available from the town centre.

Outstanding features of this hotel are its staff and its food. All the staff were professional and friendly. Most notably, Francesco, at the front desk, was professional, extremely knowledgable and helpful. We ate dinner at the restaurant on two occasions. The food was very good and very artistically presented.

Beautiful hotel although a long walk from town

We stayed at the hotel from 6th to 13th of June, it's a lovely hotel although the walk from the local town, St Agnello, up the hill is not recommended at midday, when it's 30 degrees, as we did. Taxis are VERY expensive, we got the Currier bus from out side Naples airport to St Agnello, costing 10 euros each, and returned the same way, others staying at the hotel paid 135 euros each way ???? advise to use local buses and trains as very cheap and convenient, watch out for pick pockets, especially if going to Naples, Sorrento, is amazing, Almalfi and Possitano a must by boat, cost 45 euros each, don't go on the coach if you feel travel sick. The staff in the hotel are fantastic, especially the restaurant staff, will definitely go back again, Simon from Shrewsbury

Great Hotel near to the beautiful Sorrento!

Hotel was excellent and the staff very friendly. It is situated 1.6 miles from Sorrento's main square but the walk each day wasn't too bad and you have the option of using the hotel shuttle bus that ran several times a day. We had great weather and it was nice to spend time around the pool. Breakfast was wide ranging and very good quality, I would recommend this hotel.

Beautiful hotel - but only in parts

We have just returned from a 7 night stay at this hotel which is situated about 1.5 miles from Sorrento town close to the suburb of San Agnello (about a 10 min walk down the hill from the hotel, but beware there is no footpath and the passing traffic can be a little scary).

The hotel's reception and public rooms are beautifully decorated and lavishly furnished with Italian artefacts & antiques. However, the bedrooms fall a little short of the same high standard & I would certainly not describe them as 5*. The bathrooms in particular are in serious need of refurbishment, the shower & bath fittings are inadequate and the plumbing is very noisy.

We paid a little extra for a room overlooking the pool and had a beautiful view of Mount Vesuvius & Capri in the distance. However, disappointingly, the room only had a "Juliet" balcony which was not big enough for a chair.

Breakfast was taken in the first floor restaurant and a good selection of hot & cold items were available, including freshly cooked eggs, omelettes etc.

The staff are very friendly & attentive and the hotel provides a free shuttle bus service into Sorrento (otherwise it is a taxi which costs 25 Euros each way). However, the shuttle does not operate at all for around 4 hours in the afternoon & the last bus back to the hotel from Sorrento is at 23.00 hrs.

There is very little else in the immediate vicinity of the hotel , but there are a few bars & restaurants in San Agnello. You can also get the local train there.

Good Hotel with nice views.

The start of the holiday was ruined because Expedia sold me the holiday inclusive of flights with British Airways. It said on the itinerary...the airline MAY charge additional fees for checked baggage......I checked BA policy and they allow one checked bag....BUT when at the airport I had to pay £40 for two bags and BA said they have so many problems with Expedia not making this clear...also got stung another £46 on the way back .......it's a CON....if I'd known could have taken carry on luggage.

Luxury hotel base from which to tour Sorrento area

Mature but beautifully maintained luxury hotel with views of the Bay of Naples. My wife and I spent our 40th wedding anniversary here. Service was exceptional. Thanks especially to Alisa our 6th floor concierge for making our trip so enjoyable and to Giovanni, the maître d' and his colleagues for making the evening dinners a really memorable experience.

Relaxing, comfortable, good value

From the minute we arrived we were welcomed by Bruna. Her service was exceptional and is a vital member of the hotel. Our luggage was taken from us and taken to our room whilst we were being shown around the hotel by Bruna. She showed us all the facilities they had to offer and she then took us to our room. The view over the pool and down towards sorrento was amazing.

great hotel!

Great hotel - we only stayed 2 nights, but wished we could stay longer. If I planned my trip to the Sorrento area again, I would definitely consider making this hotel my base for seeing the area. Very helful and friendly staff, free parking, walking distance to the Sant'Agnello train station, lovely pool and great terrace. Couldn't ask for anything more. Very peaceful and enjoyable stay.

We went for 6 nights to Sorrento. the hotel and the staff were great we can't fault it.
Sorrento was bustling and vibrant. It was a good location .The flight and costs all great.

Elegant Hotel near Sorrento

The view from this hotel on to Naples Bay is beautiful. The lobby is beautiful Italian elegance. Standard Room is comfortable. TV has only BBC in English. There is an outdoor pool and on-site Spa. Breakfast buffet is excellent including eggs, meats, pastries, cereals. Dining room is beautiful, and staff very accommodating.
The location is a significant walking distance from central Sorrento and the port at the bottom of a high cliff. The hotel attempts to mediate this weakness with a shuttle to the center of town, but it is too infrequent, and going on down to the port for trips to Capri is a fair descent. The staff is inadequately aware of road closings and other town conditions that might affect tourists.

Grand in most respects

The semi-circular building on the front of the hotel, which houses the palatial reception area with the dining room above is certainly five-star. The clean and comfortable bedrooms are in a six-storey block behind and those at the back offer a view of a dark alleyway. At the front you look across to Naples and Vesuvius, but in all but the best rooms the balcony is barely wide enough to take a chair. The breakfast buffet is excellent and there's a girl doing omelettes and pancakes. The only negatives are the lack of tea and coffee making facilities in the bedrooms and, for those who are bothered, the sub-standard leisure facilities. There's only an outdoor pool and neither that nor the Jacuzzi nor the sauna were heated during our stay in late October.
