Don’t be fooled by the exterior as you find your room, the Royale is a fantastic, well maintained beach resort with great amenities and plenty of room for our family of three adults and two teenagers. Every balcony has a beach view, the pools and grounds are extremely well maintained, and every staff member was friendly and attentive to our needs. The price from hotels.com was fantastic as well. This was our second stay and I am sure we will be back!

Everything was about as clean at I would expect from a place costing $100/night. Parking was good, the pools were nice, and beach access was decent.
I had three issues though:
No where in my booking did it indicate that there would be an extra charge of $25/person for a wristband to have in and out privileges. I don't think that guests should have to compensate for the staffs inability to properly monitor who is coming on and off of their property. But that extra money took away a night out to eat since we had to buy these \"required\" wristbands.
The staff as a whole was not very helpful or accommodating. No one looked like they wanted to be there, which I get, bc who wants to be at work? But you shouldn't be in customer service of you can't handle it.
Last thing, which isn't huge, but was still very disappointing, the balcony attached to the room was inaccessible in our studio room. This definitely needs to be clarified when booking this room.
Overall we had a great vacation, and this served fine as a place to shower and sleep, but it would have been a lot better with better communication when booking.

They act sarcastic and don’t even help they just say read the rules and make us leave forcefully.. couldn’t even get dropped off at the hotel entrance even tho I had proof we all stayed and paid

Mildew smell, threadbare sheets, stained curtains and comforters, springy beds, flickering lights, loud music until 4 am Nextdoor. Went here for spring break and would have had a great time if we had just picked another place to stay, they miscellaneously charged my friends card for a huge sum of money and thought they could get away without us noticing and then didn’t take any accountability for their mistakes. Pool and hot tubs and tennis courts are nice enough and the beach isn’t too crowded. Staff is unenthusiastic and unhelpful and the security deposit was as much as the room. Do not stay here.

The hotel and room itself was good. There was no issues with our room or the location however, we showed up and immediately was told we needed wristbands for safety concerns. No biggie, we figured it was common at large resorts. What is ridiculous, is these wristbands costed $25 and were only needed for anyone between 10 and 32 years old. What was even more annoying was if we wanted to use credit card to pay for these wristbands it would actually be closer to $30 or $35 - none of this was listed in the booking.

Then after we paid $125 for our 5 wrist bands (in cash) we were told we could only have 1 parking pass and the other car would have to be in public parking which is halfway down the island. We asked if we could pay for another pass and they said no. - once again. This was not mentioned in the listing.

Another annoyance of the stay was our towel situation. We had 5 adults in the room, and are staying at a place with a beach, and 3 pools. I figured the place would have some sort of beach/pool towels… nope. So when asked if we could have additional towels to take to the beach we were told our room did not qualify to get more towels because we had a washer/dryer in the room. WHAT. That makes no sense, I understand that there is a washer dryer and it would be convenient for the hotel but come on. We would need to take our sandy towels back to our room, run an hour cycle (at least) and then once the clean towels are done, then take a shower. That’s just ridiculous.

The condo was amazing. I mean, it's older and needs something's repaired (the dresser and some wooden doors in the condo wouldn't close completely etc but mostly from moisture and salt from being coastal, so really was as expected- no complaints from me!!) the layout was awesome, the beds were great! The space and amenities were PERFECT for our family!!! The washer and dryer were a lifesaver!! The balcony was used every single day! The heated pools and beach access and even tennis courts were all so wonderful! The couches were awesome for watching movies together and relaxing after long days of adventure! The kitchen was well stocked with every tool and dish you need to cook and operate daily activities. The large space was great for our family of 6 to do all the things! We played games, ate, hung out, rested up, swam a ton! 100% will be back! The staff were absolutely top notch!! They helped with anything we needed and we had a very chaotic trip lol!!! (Started with cancelled flights and missed nights stay) they kept our condo for us, they helped us with all of our luggage when we were in between reservations, they were super friendly and helpful with greeting you everyday, providing basics for the condo (soap and such). They always greeted you with a mailed and happily suggested things to eat or go do ! Can't wait to stay again!!!

Cool wind blows in around doors and windows, no lock on connecting room door, dishwasher looked broken so didn’t use, vents and light fixtures dirty, have to empty your own garbages, have to remove bedding and pile in bathroom with used towels, no pool towels provided, onsite bar was never open. The hotel was clean, it is gated & there is a short walk to the beach. The staff was nice. It was a little confusing booking the room because they have 2 rooms with separate numbers for a suite. Also, the entrance does not have the name of the hotel listed on the entrance. The bill is also a little confusing because there are multiple charges on the credit card.

First time visiting was not aware that there was no convenience, stores or markets within walking distance. The front desk was less than desirable. People are nice and friendly, but it looked rundown. There was no toiletries offered for a week stay only for a few days. There was no maid service when asked for coffee they handed you a call to free filter in your hand it was not wrapped or encased in plastic

Checkout was 10am. Hotel requested to remove sheets from bed, trash from room all dishes clean. We did all that, swept the night before and still got hit with a $60 cleaning fee. Parking lot spaces are too small for suv, and is too congested for that size of hotel.

Other than that, great tennis courts beach access and really good restaurants near.

The property is quite dated, but clean. Everything was in working order, but could have been replaced 5 years ago. The water pressure is less than good and the shower took 15 minutes to drain. The toilet uses a push button flush valve from the early 90’s and took 5 minutes to refill. Overall, it was an okay stay for the money and location.

We've been staying at the Royale for 20 yrs they keep saying they are upgraded but we seem to get the same room over and over i dont see any difference my friends always get the nicer rooms this yesr my room had a roach and was lacking kitchen supplies. Proces go up but i dont see any difference in the rooms i stay except for the shower. The living room cuches are old flat i hopnext time i will get domething better nicer i do like staying there if i didn't i wouldn't stay.

Is in a good location. It's on the beach and several stores and restaurants are within walking distance. The one bedroom with full kitchen was spacious and having our own washer and dryer was a bonus.
The place is older and it shows in some of the fixtures. It is normal wear and exposure to salt air. However it was very clean. We plan to go back the next time we are in South Padre.

I’m not sure if these were condos at one time maybe timeshares?? But we had what looked like an efficiency apartment, basic living room with a bed, a loveseat, TV and a small dinette/kitchenette. It was super clean. The towels and linens were super fresh, which is always a great thing. The apartment was pretty much furnished with all the basic necessities like coffee maker, toaster microwave, mini fridge and even a mini dishwasher. Also they had all the utensils bowls plates, things like that which was a big plus even though we didn’t use them. Location was on the 12th floor which wasn’t bad getting up and down but could’ve been a big hassle had we not had our wagon for toting things to and from beach. Also access to the beach was down a long sidewalk and you had to leave through the coded gate in the pool area to access the private beach. Once you got onto private beach property, you had to walk about 200 feet down a wooden walkway to the beach and then across about 30 yards of soft sand. For somebody who is not really in good shape like myself, it could be a little bit of a problem with having to stop and catch your breath and then continue on. And then while hanging out on the beach all day, you can look forward to doing it again on the way back. lol. One last thing and the only complaint is the bathroom is smaller than average and the shower area is a tiled stand up shower which is about 3’ x 5’ and I had to stand sideways to take a shower not good.

The staff was GREAT! The inside of the hotel could use some work and the bathroom had water damage on the bottom of the door and cupboards. If you’re not worried about a perfect room, the outdoors was well taken care of and the pool was cleaned every day. Isn’t a bad stay for the price.
