I didn’t stay here because the recent reviews were terrible and I was unsure I would be safe. I was also concerned about the cleanliness and the bed bugs. They refused to refund my money so I am out of pocket. I have used hotels.com for many years but their customer service was not good and I would go so far as to say patronising. I do not need anyone to explain to me that a review is based on someone’s personal opinion or how a deposit works. Both the hotel and website have lost a customer

Honestly avoid this hotel. The location is good but the hotel itself OMG such a poor condition. Terrible mattress, old smelly carpet, the room had a strong body odour. When I asked to change room i found out all rooms smell like this as i was shown about 3-4 rooms.
They hold £100 deposit in case you damage something. Nothing in the room has value more then £50. I would not return to this hotel. It needs a complete refurbishment. Avoid

Carpet needs a deep clean. The room is tired, and the noise at night is a joke! Doors banging, running up and down the stairs, loud talking at all hours. Zero consideration for other guests.

I will say the hotel is conveniently placed though, and near the train station, local high street for food, drinks and basic shops.

I made my reservations online . When I got to the hotel , the rooms do not look like what's shown in the pictures . Then they are asking for payment to be paid in cash , even though it's been booked online with credit card. The pillows are so flimsy and flat like a pancake. They don't even provide toiletries.

Two stars. This is because I actually stayed at the Park Hotel, which was 2 stars. Rather than tell me that the room was under maintenance before time, they told me when I turned up for the room. Without asking for consent, they'd booked me into 'their sister hotel', the Park Hotel 5 mins drive away from where I'd wanted to be. This shouts of a scam using the 3 star at a decent price, as a front for filling out their unused rooms in lesser establishments. I will be complaining further.

Called and asked for a parking space . We got there and they were rude and said no spaces.we had to park 2 miles away as we got back the three empty spaces weee allotted to them

No mention. Of needing a physical card to pay a deposit we had no card so they were happy to us not stay there and not refund us. We had to ask a stranger to pay for our deposit.

Rooms were dirty and we think they had drugs all over the floor.

First of all the woman at the counter was not helpful, she didn’t have answers to basic questions. I wasn’t even given a bill or receipt on leaving, my security deposit hasn’t been credited to me till now even after so many days of checkout, what kind of hotel is this that it takes the security deposit for so many days and there is no refund till now. Anyone not willing to lose their money should not book this hotel. The staff especially the female ones seems very unaware, unhelpful and clearly not trained for hospitality. Where is my security deposit?

I booked this for the free parking but for 30 rooms they only have 3 parking spaces
And a possibility of another 5 on the opposite of the road. Of course all spaces were taken so I couldn't park there.

My overall rating is Poor service/system! And I am not happy about the 100pd deposit policy. I didn’t read that article anywhere during my bookings; what is not ok for me are: 1. How surprised I was when I was told at the check-in that I need to pay the deposit (what will have happened if I didn’t have that in my account). 2. The deposit was then taken from my account “immediately”, why can’t it be returned also “immediately” and it has to take some days? That is a silly system. This is what may not make me want to be in a place like that again. 3. The staff don’t really have time to talk/explain things well to customers according to my observation. I need my 100p, you took it; I should not be the one to chase my bank to refund

I stayed at lucky 8 with my brother for my birthday for 2 nights. I had an absolutely terrible time! The room was filthy and It had silver fish under the sheets! Absolutely disgusting and when we were shown towards the room I asked the staff member Steve if they had condiments and shampoo etc and he replied saying 'we do not provide condoms' here' I was outraged as he knew it was my brother in the twin room I booked with my brother. There were rats outside. People screaming and shouting. The room stank especially the bathroom. And ontop of it all they took £100 deposit on top of the payment for the stay and was told it would be given back after 36 hours after our stay, and it hasn't been reembersed after over a week ago! Do no stay there under any circumstances. Disgraceful

I thought ilford as an area was awful, didn’t feel safe at all, got to reception and had to pay £100 deposit for any damages which I didn’t know about, thought that was a bit extreme. Got into room and the heat hit me straight away, small, dark, dingey room with the smallest window which barely let any air in. Noisy in corridors, broken shower. Didn't sleep because of the heat and being bitten by something throughout the night. Hated it and won’t stay again.

I booked this hotel based on its advertised images, but was shocked by the vast difference upon arrival. The hotel photos online were completely misleading and bore no resemblance to the actual condition of the property. And said 3 stars, you can’t even call it a 1 star. Worst room ever. I ask the following morning after our check in if we can move to other room they said no available room, not helpful at all. Furnitures is more worst than you see in garbage area, The furniture was old, worn, and had rips/tears. Bad smells you can smell from open window, room had a strong, musty odor and lots of insects outside literally checked out early didn’t finish our 1 day stay more because I got lots of insect bite. The overall state of the room made it impossible to feel comfortable or relax. Stay away from this hotel. Misleading pictures and rating. I even took pictures of all furnitures inside and etc. worst hotel.

The room i was given is definitely a hazard during hot weather. One could die of heat stroke in that room! I don't care what you do, you cannot get air in that room without an AC!

The fan provided was absolutely useless! I couldn't sleep at all throughout the night due to the horrendous heat. Had to drown myself in a cold shower twice just to cool down and even that wasn't enough! I gave up and started packing to leave at 4am! It was that terrible!

The person next door to me seemed to be having a mental breakdown of some sort, he slammed his door shut throughout the night and you could smell his cannabis in the room and hallway as he smoked!

The room itself was decent but the overall experience was awful. I will only stay here for the location and easy access to everywhere but definitely NOT during summer!

We arrived at reception a little early but were seen promptly. Once paid and deposit taken we were handed keys and told our room was outside round the corner. This wasn't clear when we booked. We were given directions to what looked like converted houses and our room was on the 2nd floor which wasn't what we needed after a long trip. We made our way up to the room. The room itself was what you would expect for the price. The bed itself was comfy and bedding clean but it was immediately obvious the pillows were not big enough. They were extremely thin and lumpy. You could tell where previous guests had folded them over to try and get a decent night's sleep. We asked for some more on the Friday we arrived but it took 3 days and asking for a manager before we got some on the last night.

I won’t say it’s completely dirty but not my standards. The room is extremely too small. The bed blocks the bathroom door and makes it difficult to get into the bathroom and barely space to walk around the bed. I have busing all over my legs from hit the bed edge trying to walk around the bed. No air conditioner and the room wa extremely hot and with window open still hot and no screens so we have mosquito bites all over. Can’t believe they ask from £100 deposit when the hotel is more so a motel and nothing to be held money for incidental charges. This place had very few accommodations. Pillows were basically nonexistent. The Wi-Fi never worked service for a cell phone did not work once you were in your room meaning you needed the Wi-Fi, which did not work. Also, upon checking in the front desk did not let me use my card And made me walk to an ATM to get an exchange rate and turn in cash. Checking out they tried to keep the cash and told me it would go back on my card that they did not let me use.

I unfortunately spent 3 years living in temporary accommodation and this hotel clearly houses people in need of temp housing. Room was meant to be superior and it was far from that! Had a random fridge in my room that was too big to fit anywhere! Noisy all night with banging doors and trains.
They continuously take preauthorisations for rooms and security deposits that can take up to 5 days to return.
States there is parking ?? Yes 3 spaces that were continuously filled not bad as there are 20 rooms.

I had a mostly good experience at this hotel. The location is excellent – it’s very convenient for both train and bus access, and there are plenty of food options nearby. The staff was friendly and helpful.

There are a few things that could be improved. In my room, there was no bedside lamp, so I had to turn on the main light for the entire room, which wasn’t ideal. The pillow was also quite small and made it difficult to sleep comfortably. One major issue was an alarm that went off early in the morning on one of the days, which was very disruptive.

Overall, it’s a great place to stay for the location and service, but a few small changes could make the experience much better.

When i arrived it was like i was someone they didn't like ( a very Rude man greeted me) . First thing i had to do is provide photo I.D then pay for my 2 night stay in full Plus £100 deposit for the 2 nights . Then they told me no room for parking so had to go down the road to park at a different hotel ( IF I KNEW THAT I WOULD OF STAYED AT THE OTHER HOTEL )the first night the fire alarm went off at 12.30 am . For 1/2 A hour .No apologies nothing . Wifi was rubbish ended up turning it off and using mobile network . Then to top it all off went down for advertised breakfast to some old bread with no butter or cultery .it was a disaster

Check-in was complicated as e-mail warning of the £50 up-front deposit and need for photo ID was sent to junk mail.
Parking is advertised as included in the price, when it’s available on a first come, first served basis and there are only TWO spaces!
Bed was not comfortable, only 1 pillow and that felt like resting your head on a patio slab!!
On the plus side it was exceptionally cheap and I guess you get what you pay for.

BED BUGS!!! Avoid at all costs. Staff were very friendly and helpful however at about midnight while watching a movie on my laptop, I noticed something crawling towards my face over the pillow. I quickly swatted it and turned the light on to find a patch of blood and another bed bug sat next to it. Felt very itchy afterwards and couldn't sleep in the bed so slept on a very small, uncomfortable sofa. After finally getting to sleep for an hour my neighbours came back at about 4.45 and despite them being on the floor above and me having my TV on I could hear every word of their conversation.

Would not recommend. No AC/fan during a heat wave! To make matters worse when it was time to show me my room I was taken to a hotel that was not the one I booked under the guise that it’s their “sister” hotel.

To make matters worse I had to pay a “deposit”‘that instead of being returned to me during check out I was told would be returned me after 5 working days.

The worst hotel experience I have ever had in my life. I don’t see myself returning. Better if staying at ibis budget or some other hotel within a similar price range but much better quality.

My stay

When I arrived, the on site parking was full. The receptionist, told me, to use the one across the road at Great Western. Their one was also full. But, luckily, a man drove off and I got his space. The receptionist, very kindly, helped to to take my bags up to my room. After she’d gone, I found the shower wasn’t working. She got someone in, the next day, and had it fixed. I found they offered a cooked breakfast, if I wanted it. Also, the staff were very friendly and my room was always kept very clean.

Breakfast was limited no selection offered or options for dietary requirement. Food was always stone cold no matter what time you went.
Parking was a nightmare which caused me to damage my car.
Area felt very unsafe especially at night lots of undesireables in the area in a property on the ground floor away from the main hotel didnt feel safe. No where to lock valuables despite housekeeping entering the property daily.
The room stank of smoke when i entered, the pillows were flat and provided no support. Stains on the carpet and sofa. Chair at the desk was broken.
No facilities for the kitchen area had to buy my own. TV wouldnt turn off and little tea and coffee facilities.
Shower was unbearable the shower head was broken and the water was extremely inconsitent going from scolding hot to freezing cold.
Fire alarm randomly came on one night at 2.30am and there was no notion of what to do where to go, no one came to check on the guests.
No bin in room i just had to accumulate rubbish and find a bin on street to dispose of it. Walls are paper thing could hear snoring from room above, everytime they coughed or sneezed.
Having to spend 8 days here was nothing short of traumatic! Never again!!!!

We have stayed here many of times but this time we was really disappointed , there was no parking when we arrived , then when we got back from our night out our room key was not working so we have to wait 15 mins for the reception guy to come back from shop , it did say on the desk ring this number which I do many of times but the phone was left at the hotel , then the alarm went off at midnight about 4 times there is now security on the front doors who was so rude to us regarding the alarm and room key , we then had breakfast the nect morning and everything was cold I did ask the kitchen to cook some fresh hot items but they said no . We use this hotel a lot and this time round I am so disappointed such a shame

It was so dirty that we decided not to stay. They cancelled the booking but still charged £49 even though they confirmed nothing will be charged as we are not staying as it’s very dirty and terrible place.

Where is my deposit?!

The rooms stink pretty bad, old, mouldy.
The receptionist was pretty rude, except for Peter, he was quite nice and reasonable.

You meant to have a pendant £50 deposit charge, but in my case I got charge this extra as I arrived and still haven't got my money back.

Shocking.

Booked 2 nights (Friday and Saturday) for visit to ComicCon. Arrived late Friday night after 6 hour trip. Room we stopped in was in a seperate annexed building around the corner. Nothing like the pictures on the website. I was expecting basic as it was just B n B i was after but it was very very basic. A double 2 singles, a desk (no stool) and a wardrobe ( no hanging rail) and a tv. No bedside cabinets..not even a lamp. Single beds were broken and had terrible sleep. Staff were a mixed bag. Guy on reception Friday night seemed badly organized and apathetic but after complaining in the morning i couldnt praise thd lovely young lady on reception enough who did everything she could to resolve this. Breakfast was not a cooked one as stated, as kitchen is closed but a bag containing 2 boiled eggs a yogurt, apple and croissant. Whdn i went to reception for this there eas none left so the young lady sent us over the road to Best Western (a sister hotel) for buffet breakfast. I got the impression that the whole hotel is in need of maintenance but is a long way off. Room cleanliness needs to improve as does the facilities ( damaged kettle..2 cups in a quasi room with 1 saucer???...very little tea making stuff...no spoons...1 wardrobe and 3 small drawers for 4 people). The furniture and carpet needs throwing away and the abundance of power oulets reducing ( theres even a cooker switch still on the wall ). Overall disappointing and will not be returning.
