This hotel has a great location, right on the beach. There are no loungers,umbrella rentals or public restrooms on Potrero Beach so being at the hotel you have all of that. The water there is calm, great for swimming. Similar to many places in Costa Rica there were some plumbing issues, plugged toilet and plugged shower drain but maintenance fixed it right away and we were fine for the rest of the stay. It is clean, the buffet breakfast is good. You can order an omelette in addition to what is set out. Food is very expensive in Costa Rica so we filled up at breakfast then didn’t eat until supper. I would definitely return.

The room was ok (had a two room apartment) however there what’s a karaoke bar beside the building and it kept us awake. The pool area was great right by the sea, however the pool was not very clean.The location of the hotel was very nice due to the closeness to the sea, the sea view was magnificent. The beach was calm and not very many people was there. The breakfast was okay but missed for example cold milk or yoghurt. We tried the restaurant for one night, but it was quite expensive (as most of the restaurants are) and the portion was small.
We really liked the neighbouring restaurant Hemmingway, very good food and drinks!

My family of four stayed at the Bahia del Sol hotel, and it was mid, as the kids say. The suite was well laid out, with separate bedrooms and bathrooms for the adults and kids, a small kitchen with barebones equipment, and even a lounge and giant terrace with comfortable couches. Sounds pretty sweet, right? Well, only if you don’t need to sleep.

CanaTico, a restaurant-bar just down the street, pumps music so loudly until about midnight every evening. Some nights, it’s karaoke too, so we get to enjoy drunkards scream-singing the hits instead of the pros. In the bedrooms of the family suites? It’s like they are in your room. The rooms are so poorly insulated, with rickety patio doors in lieu of windows, that you hear every word and every note of every song, on top of the booming bass. And that happens even with the loud A/C, a white noise app, and ear plugs.

Surprisingly, the owner of the Bahia del Sol hotel also owns the building that the CanaTico is in. The hotel staff seem pretty indifferent, just acknowledging that everyone complains about the noise and that there is nothing that can be done. Cool. At least they called the police once when I went over there in my pyjamas to ask them to keep it down so my family could sleep.

Besides not being able to sleep, which is a core function of a hotel, the place is okay. The breakfast is fine, with passable food. The cleanliness of the hotel could be improved. It’s got a grimy feel, especially the bathrooms - think old soap dis

Room was clean and spacious! We got the 3 bed family suite. Had a weird smell, I think it was coming from the air conditioning. We ended up just leaving the sliding door open. The staff is friendly and the beach is nice! The breakfast was great, the town has restaurants and a market you can walk to for things as well. I liked this are better than tamarindo because you don’t have people haggling you to buy things 24/7, it’s more peaceful and less crowded.

Stayed 3 nights- definitely feel it should have a higher rating than a 3 star hotel - we were in a deluxe room - very spacious - modern and clean. Grounds are beautifully landscaped and staff were very friendly. The free breakfast was great as well as the entertainment options! I would stay here again.

Everything about our stay here was excellent. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and helpful. We atayed three nights and it is a highlight of our trip. The room and ammenities are comfirtable. You cannot beat the location, just steps away from the beach and local restaurants. I highly recommend this hotel. You can even buy a day pass for the pool.

However the suite we stayed in was extremely old and did not at all look like a single picture on this website or online in general. The interior of the rooms was extremely dated & didnt appear clean. The beds were very comfortable and the shower was amazing. The property only had 2 restaurants and one was closed for a private party.

Check in was not pleasant, happy we arrive d early they had assigned us a room 118 which was at the end of the resort looked like closet, would not have anyone stay there, I think we had paid a good some of money to stay at this hotel!
We asked for a better room they said they would look into it and we should check with them later. We left came back later they had another room for us.
Just to let you know how insulted and humiliating this was , coming for a vacation from Canada ending in a closet space.
We had to go twice to visit the room, an ignorant front desk agent could not help or express our situation.
Actually I am reguested a full refund from however , Expedia or hotel.
Totally frustrated and humiliated.
Especially for the price we paid.

It is not an all inclusive, something to be aware of, if that is what you are use to. Nice beach to swim & walk along. Close to other beaches to visit and lots of sea and wildlife to see.

The website was deceiving, they show a newly renovated 2 bedroom. What we got was an old 2 bedroom, nothing like the picture. I wouldn’t come back .

We loved Bahía del Sol! Very quiet, beachfront property that was exactly what we were looking for. The food was amazing, the crew were always polite and helpful and happy hour never disappointed. The rooms could use a little updating but over all it was perfect. We would definitely stay here again!

The good: the restaurant staff and the front desk girl were friendly.
The bad: The room was very tired, and the doors did not latch, no dead bolt, leaving the feeling that it was not safe. We did see the armed security guard walking around, but we would have still preferred to be able to lock our doors securely. Bugs in the room, ants, some kind of flying insect, as well as what looked like some kind of centipede running across the floor. The bed was uncomfortable, and it felt like insects in bed at night. Just outside the bedroom window was the pizza place/bar with Karaoke right next door to the property, and it was very loud and noisy. We also had the misfortune of listening to what sounded like racing cars and motorcycles until the early morning hours on the main road, with zero soundproofing in the rooms; sleeping was very difficult. We were booked for 2 nights, but shortly after arriving, we decided we would stay only that night and check out in the morning. The hotel said they had a no-refund policy on our Expedia booking, so they would not refund the second night. Because of the overall experience we had, we decided to lose the money for the second night and leave anyway. We went down the road to Margaretiville Resort, which is a resort I would recommend for that area. Unfortunately, I can not say the same for the Bahia del Sol Beach Front Boutique Hotel. I would not book here again.

It was so much fun to see cows on the beach! The room we booked was huge and comfortable. My kids really enjoyed the bunk beds and the privacy curtains. The kitchen and living space was nicely equipped. All the nature around the hotel and the set up of the hotel is relaxing and lovely. We did encountered a plumbing issue during our stay that caused our unit to not have water for several hours for two days. The staff were helpful regarding this and accommodate us to shower in a different room. Not necessarily convenient but was not their fault and responded appropriately to the problem. The two restaurants had very similar food options and it was just alright. There were too many flies during meals and that was a nuisance. Staff were friendly at the restaurant as well. The pool and common areas look old and in my opinion could have more maintenance. We saw the pools being cleaned in the morning but the cement looks stained and many insects fall in the water throughout the day that could be cleaned for better enjoyment of the pool.

The staff were so friendly. Freddie the waiter was awesome. Amy and Angie front desk staff were the best and so accommodating. The continental breakfast is decent and they serve you, it’s not a buffet style, with a couple of options considering it’s free with coffee & fresh pressed juice. There’s a couple of tasty restaurants within walking distance. The beach is right off the property and the view is stunning. Rooms are clean, neat, AC works, TVs have apps to watch. Honestly don’t have any major complaints worth writing about, nothing is perfect. But going to Costa Rica and experiencing the sweetest people is what the experience is about. PURA VIDA Costa Rica! 🇨🇷

Pros: Most of the staff was friendly, helpful and accommodating. The complimentary breakfast was good. The restaurant food was good. The hotel is right on the beach was great!
Cons: The pictures of the deluxe room we had were off!! The room is small and my very clean! The jet tub was so dirty and the plug would not work so couldn’t use it at all! The overgrown plants were not maintained. The A/C was not very good and took forever to cool the room down! The grounds were not well kept. The cushions on the loungers were dirty and gross. The pool was filled with flying ants and rarely cleaned the 4 days we were there.
To sum it up…pay more to get a better experience!

Hard to find things to complain about but maybe some of the chairs were in poor condition and I noticed the chase cushions were a little aged and stained and some dishes were chipped. Huge potential fell short. Bahia del sol was sold to me as a dive vacation . No diving on site and outsources to frog divers. More costly unless staying at a property like that of margaritaville. The property is fare. Pool is dirty every day. Outdated. Front desk staff nice. Property manager Eduardo, not at all. The margarita vile is in a more central location in the more developed part of town, I’m staying there next time. The food, sub par. Breakfast was good, the service staff are definitely not accommodating if you have morning trips or to special diets. The manager refuses to make things right. Cokes are the reusable Coke bottles, therefore making it more costly for the consumer. The happy hour is trash unless you want lime margaritas. America’s stay away, this is not a resort for you. Costly! The resort does not return emails in a timely manner, therefore made my transportation more costly. I found a cheaper way to travel with ecotrans only 29 dollars and safe. Not the one the hotel chargerf me for 129. In addition the hotel tried to charge me for 2 cokes on the first day I never received. Waste! I am not impressed with this hotel. Buyer beware.

Beautiful grounds and beachfront. Big con is very noisy. Family suite in the 300 range very noisy, cannot sleep in due to sound comjng feom passing truck or motorbikes. At night, the Canatico pizza place has loud music playing past midnight. Family suite with two bedrooms very spacious but kitchen not well stocked. No pots, toaster and oven doesn't work.

I stayed at this hotel for a wedding almost 20 years ago, so was excited to go back. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. My recommendations would be for the hotel to tidy up the grounds, remove rocks from the sitting area by the pool and try and clean up the beach a little bit right in front of the hotel.

This property is very nice right on the beach, beachfront dining, and a swim up pool bar. There were many families with young children. It has a a good resort for families. But I would caution that the waves are very mild at low tide but very rough at high tide. The beach offers beautiful scenery, and a great place to watch sea birds fishing.

Pro: Great hotel right on the beach - literally the other side of the low hotel wall is the beach. You could not get closer.

MANY, MANY great restaurants within 100yds of the hotel and easy walk, even at night.

Flamingo and Tamarindo beach are very short drive, but you have a great beach and all amenities at this hotel.

Good hotel to end a trip when you are leaving from LIR which is 1 hr drive away.

This was our 2nd visit in 10 years and we would come again.

Cons: A bit pricey, but not outrageous.

Check out is noon and hard to change with this popular hotel. If you leave from LIR when flights leave at 6pm then you have a lot of time to spare, but hotel will hold suitcases after checkout and you can still enjoy the amenities.

Good service, friendly staff, great beachfront location, worn out room, restaurant food and selections above average, one swimming pool that can get crowded with kids (especially when the resort allows others to use it and the grounds for a fee when not staying there), beds comfortable but fan light and speed controller remote duplicate to another room and light/fan went on off multiple times at 3 am, water and electricity went out but both were municipality issues. We enjoyed our stay and only complaint is the fan remote. This is an affordable 3 star hotel with helpful staff, beautiful grounds, chill atmosphere but could use a face lift. Our room was dark and small but the bathroom was very large (cannot flush toilet paper), while our travel partners room was spacious and open. Same room category so checkout your room assignment. They did offer us a move but we had already unpacked and you don’t spend a lot of time in your room at a beachfront hotel.

My son woke up to water dripping on his head from the ac unit over his head. When we got up to look we saw that the unit was about to fall off the wall on his head. Green grime and hair and an old straw on bathroom floor. Management offered to remove one meal from our bill for this disgusting death trap.

Beautiful boutique hotel with lots of dining options within walking distance. We had the two bedroom family suite, which was large and very nice. Unfortunately, we heard the street noise and band/karaoke from the bars while sleeping. This is our only complaint. The staff was extremely helpful, breakfast was amazing and the daily yoga was a nice surprise. The beach is dark due to volcanic sediment, but was quiet and safe. You could walk 1 mile in either direction. Plus there are multiple restaurants on the beach. Loved the atv excursion and sunset cruise! Such a great trip!

There are several restaurants, a grocery store and even a couple spots to shop. It’s very safe and you’re mingling with the locals. It’s great. Giovanni was our pickup and drop off to the airport. One word describes him. FANTASTICO!

Super chill and nice location for beach hopping.

Nice chill place and chill beach great for kids. Great parking and location to explore a bunch of fun beaches. Breakfast was ok, and the pool needs some more frequent attention. Rooms are no thrill or comfort but very spacious.

Storm ruined our trip

Nice people. Great restaurant. We were there in a storm and had some problems with our rooms. The toilet was leaking in the first one, and the ceiling fell in in the second one due to the storm. Unfortunately, the weather was so bad, we did not get to enjoy the pool or the spa because staff could not get there. And the beach was very turbulent and muddy. These people did try hard to accommodate us when their ceilings and buildings did not hold up. We were gifted a lovely free dinner for our troubles.

Beautiful small hotel right on the water and walking distance to a few restaurants. Breakfast and drinks weren’t that great but everything else was excellent. Loved that the hotel had water and sand toys for our kids.

It's a nice hotel with a very friendly staff. The direct access to the beach was a plus, though it's not the nicest beach out there. The water is a little murky. There's greenery all around the property, and while it's nice to see the iguanas, raccoons, and skunks around, I didn't enjoy finding cockroaches, enormous butterflies, and crabs in my room. But the staff was attentive and did their best to clear them out of there.
I only tried the ceviche in the restaurant and it wasn't the best.
There's a supermarket and an ATM machine near the hotel, which is great, but other than that, there are very few restaurants and bars nearby. It gets a little boring, especially at night. I had a car so I spent most nights at Tamarindo where there's a bit more going on.

Its a totally paradise experience. its not crowded not commercialized, The place is super clean. The greenery, huge gorgeous pool, cute pathways are well maintained. Your beach area is private and right on the beach . Saw other resorts that are closeby and their beaches are not not private . Renting a car was ideal and best way to see other areas of the country. There are few restaurants near the resort that are excellent. The all inclusive breakfast is wonderful.
