Everything about my stay was just perfect. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. The grounds are enormous and one can literally lose oneself walking in nature around the golf course. There are five great restaurants on property. And the location, midway between Centra and Cascais is perfect.

The property is one of the original monasteries of Portugal. All aspects of the facilities were excellent clean, neat, and easy access to all amenities. The room was beautiful with great view of the hills and surrounding geography.
In general the staff was very good to excellent always helpful.

Definitely a retreat resort away from the city. Located closed to Sintra downtown (10-15min driving), sits on golf course that is fun to walk around. Two pool family and adult (both cold not heated). Rooms are spacious, breakfast is great but can get busy as it’s popular. Staff are friendly and incredibly helpful and most speak good English. Highly recommend.

Very nice Hotel in a beautiful setting. We spent 5 night and the first 3 days were wonderful until on the afternoon of the forth day an Indian wedding started. Three hours of loud drums welcoming the guest (you could hear it from the room) and the following afternoon again more drums for a procession ceremony that lasted another 2-3 hours. Hotels at this level should notify guests before booking about this type of event or (better) not allow the unnecessary noises.

I visited the property in March 2023 prior to booking for a trip with my wife and I in May 2025. The property is just run down. Capering needed top be replaced some time ago. Lobby bar was closed. Dining not available Sunday & Monday. I went to play golf, asked the day prior about the quality of the equipment and was assured it was brand new. Shame on me I should have checked before leaving the clubhouse. The equipment was FAR from new. To add insult to injury I found out on the first pay 5 the 3 wood was actually broken. Stunning ambiance for a property, but need a major investment to garner the rates they charge.

We had a wonderful stay here. Even though it was pouring rain the whole time, we loved all the amenities that were offered at Penha Longa. The staff were incredibly helpful and very kind. Every single one we came in contact with. The indoor pool and spa facilities were amazing! The beautiful chocolate were so special and we bought lots to take home. Our Junior Suite was comfortable and the room service was quick and very good for the kids. We loved our stay and would have loved to stay much longer. Great hotel!

I cannot give enough positive accolades for my stay. The resort is stunning, all the food was modestly priced and exceptional. I didn’t have a single bad meal. The rooms were spacious and beautiful, and the pools were great! Especially the staff was exceptional.
Each restaurant we dined in did not disappoint, you don’t even have to leave. Only gripe is the several day Indian wedding blaring their music during their festivities our entire stay. Could have done without that experience.

The hotel is big and relatively dated. We had a lot of small issues which might have been because it was high season and busy. However, every day we had to ask for our toilet to be fixed because it leaked. It was never fixed and it was only the last day we were asked if we wanted a different room. Also, we gave our laundry the day before leaving and brought to the front desk and told them we were leaving and it needed to be ready for our departure the next day. Not only was it not ready but it hadn’t even gone to the wash. When we got it back it was mixed with someone else’s dirty clothes. The staff apologised and gave me a free nights worth of loyalty points from Marriott which was nice but I haven’t received them yet, but I assume I will in due course. I think the hotel is too big and too dated to be five stars. They had some really good staff and some really average staff. I don’t think there is much value for money here.

From the check in reception to check out the customer service was exceptional. Everyone was engaged and genuinely happy to assist. They were also happy to have a conversation at any time. The staff makes you feel welcomed and are truly happy with their roles and opportunities to assist in any way. The only other place I've experienced such pure genuine customer service was Jade Mountain in Saint Lucia.

Babymoon perfection

The staff at Penha Longa were fantastic. Everyone was very accommodating and helpful. We spent 4 nights here for our Babymoon and were really pleased with our choice to stay here. My husband played 3 rounds of golf and I went to the spa for multiple treatments during the week. The food at the various restaurants was fantastic as well; we ate at Mercatto twice! We will definitely be back.

Our stay at the Penha Longa exceeded all expectations. From the beginning to the end. On arrival we were met with some of the most friendly and helpful staff. Everyone went above and beyond to please and to make the stay great. The hotel is nestled on a beautiful golf course. Lots of great restaurants and a superb free breakfast every morning. Star in every department was great. There was no language barrier. I would certainly return to this property. We had a wonderful vacation.

The room was nice and clean, good temperature. I love how spacious the room was, well distributed, with mirrors, a balcony overlooking the garden and the mountain. We had access to juice, sodas and water in the refrigerator.
The staff was very friendly. They brought our luggage up to the room.

There was construction everywhere, loud noises, hallway had a strong scent that smelt horrible, housekeeping walked in while we were still sleeping, they overcharged us for golf by $300 when I booked it it said $220 and they charged us $507 upon arrival.

Dear Penha Longa,

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with my recent stay at your hotel. While I had chosen to stay at your 5-star hotel to celebrate my child's 10th birthday, I was disappointed that nothing special was done to mark the occasion, despite assurances from your staff.

Moreover, when I requested a golf cart, it was malfunctioning, adding to our frustration and inconvenience during our stay. Additionally, one evening, a staff member almost entered our bedroom without our permission, asking if we needed towels. This was completely inappropriate and left us feeling violated and that our privacy had been disturbed.

Furthermore, I was also disappointed with the construction work that was going on during my stay. The loud and disturbing sounds from the construction site on the first floor woke us up at 8 in the morning, which was very disruptive to our stay. While I understand that construction work may be necessary, it is unacceptable for guests to be subjected to such noise disturbances, and measures should be in place to ensure guests' comfort.

Overall, my experience at Penha Longa Sintra Portugal was far from satisfactory, and I hope that you take note of these issues and take the necessary steps to ensure that guests' expectations are met in the future.

I stayed at Penha Longa 10 years ago and when I decided to visit Portugal, I selected this resort again and I wasn't disappointed. If I could bottle the level of service I received and take it with me everywhere I go, I would. The property is still well maintained, the dining experience from breakfast to dinner was superb. The Spa was awesome also. I highly recommend this resort and would give a higher score than 5 if I could.

The staff deserve special recognition at this hotel. Anytime my wife and I needed anything, they were willing and enthusiastic to help. Rooms were clean and nice, the restaurants on the property are excellent, and the property is beautiful. My only complaint is that we played a round of golf while we were there, and were charged the full, normal rate during off season, on a course that was far from optimal condition. Most places have winter rates that are about half of the main season rates, and although the course was fun and challenging, I feel as though I overpaid for the round. No difference between fairways and rough, grass was 5” long on the fairway in many places. Lost several balls in the fairway. We were warned that the course wasn’t in peak condition, but I feel the price should have reflected that.

Other than that small issue, this place was incredible! Again, the staff was super accommodating. The breakfast that this hotel puts on is the best I’ve seen in Portugal; phenomenal. If you choose to come stay here in the off season as we did, you will enjoy less people at the hotel and smaller crowds at the beautiful sites in the area as well.

A truly disappointing stay at a wonderful location

Thé hôtel had overbooked and did not have rooms available for the first of my five night stay. The following day no rooms were available until mid afternoon and when a manager intervened the room made available was obviously a rushed job and lacked amenities and essential toiletries one would expect of a 5* hotel. The admin staff appeared untrained. When I checked out they did not not have records of my Experian prepayment until a manager was summoned.

Firstly they moved us for our first night (of 5) they said because of covid, it was a lie we found they were overbooked. We then agreed to move to the hotel at 10am providing our room was ready on arrival we were told the room would be ready at 3pm.
We got the duty manager and she got us a room in 10 mins. She was excellent.
One day the room was not serviced, and for three days tea and coffee not replaced.
The duty manager again was very helpful.
All the staff were great, but obviously he top management are really not very good.
On Monday we were looking to have dinner in one of the 3 star Michelin restaurants, but surprise surprise all are closed on a Monday, surely you would stagger closures, but no. Main dining room was fully booked until 9:30pm. But was not on looking in a few times. So we had to eat in the bar.

The property was surrounded by beautiful tree and golf course. It was a just a short drive away from Lisbon, Cascais, and the main town of Sintra.
It was quiet and relaxing area. The staff was helpful and friendly. We also loved hanging out at the gin bar. Federico was so nice and made an excellent drink suggestion when I was unsure what to order.

This hotel is a Ritz Carlton. It is a beautiful property but for the most part they are great BUT I feel for a Ritz brand they could be better! Our room carpet is dirty with a wine stain or something. Make note that electric bike is NOT free. We didn't remember they mention the rental cost so we were a little shocked that it was 18 euro per bike. For a 5 star hotel I think bike should be free of charge since it is just for exploring the hotel property and cant be use to go outside anyway. but overall good stay.

Although the location is stunning, there are a lot of issues with this resort which made our stay quite disappointing. We were planning a few days of relaxing, my husband would play golf and i would use their pools and other facilities, and then we would go to their michelin restaurant for his birthday. The pools were cold and not usable, the running \"trails\" were just the road around the resort you share with the cars, and on check in we discovered most of the restaurants would remain closed for our stay and were told to book straight away as everything would be full otherwise. Nowhere on the website or during the booking process is it advertised that the pools and restaurants are seasonal but this is the case. Breakfast was a bit of a disaster, we were put next to the coffee station which was really loud and chaotic with staff making coffees around us. And got coffee pod machine coffee which is hardly 5 star. The food was very slow and not good when it arrived. We didnt bother to go down for the remaining days. I have to say that the staff here were all really friendly and tried their best despite the underlying problems of the systems they were working with.
When we complained they were most understanding, we received an upgrade and a bottle of wine on the birthday which was much appreciated. Despite this the overall experience was really disappointing.

Certainly not a 5 star hotel, and most certainly not 5 star trained staff.
This is supposed to be a Ritz Carlton, but:
1. No greeters when checking in
2. Nobody to assist with the luggage
3. Dirty/dusty rooms
4. Breakfast wrong each and every day
5. Staff that took notes of problems, then seemed to discard them!

The hotel looks lovely.

However, that's where positives stop. You pay 5 star prices but get 3 star service at best. We arrived early but were not offered early check in-- despite sending an email to request this previously. We in fact, were checked in 1 hour AFTER the standard check in time. At that we were given the wrong rooms and luggage was lost along the way.

Other issues include long waits and incorrect room service orders. Broken doors in rooms. There were also several times we called the front desk/concierge/room service and no one would pick up for like 10 minutes. Honestly, it was all a little ridiculous for a supposed Ritz Carlton. Would definitely not recommend unless they get their act together.

For the price you pay, the room wasn't being vacuumed every day. They cleaned out the garbage cans and left fresh towels, but did not vacuum the carpets. The first day there were coffee pods, the remaining time it wasn't refilled. My husband gave his suit two times for laundry, and it still wasn't ironed. The breakfast is excellent, the two pools and the other amenities were very nice. My only peeve is with house keeping.

Loved having the golf course on site! Many interesting artifacts throughout the property. Would like to have seen another bar/restaurant on site more lunch options. Also suggest ceiling fans in the rooms. All in all, everyone was a great help. The front desk staff and concierge reps were all wonderful. Housecleaning also spot on! Really enjoyed staying at the hotel with our 10 month baby. Some minor issues :-Initial issues with the cot were dealt with my the manager. Food / drink is very expensive but if you book the some restaurants through Fork you can get a 30% reduction.
The silly rule about wearing a swimming cap i the indoor pool is frustrating when not consistently policed.

However we really enjoyed the hotel the staff were helpful and friendly and the outdoor pool warmed up enough in the late afternoon form a swim!

Disappointing experience from pool and food

We came for a summer vacation, the weather there really don’t suit for being in the pool! This is a resort and we had nothing to do there…
Also the food was disappointing and extremely expensive, breakfast was poor and not as I would expect from this level of hotel. We came with a 10 month old baby, there is no pool for kids and no food for kids…

Overall it was disappointing

Nice property in gorgeous surroundings. We stayed in the low season so there was soMe construction going on and the staff were not quite as knowledgeable on some things but over all we had a nice stay. They have a rather confusing system for holding money on your credit card.during your stay ..we had four different charges held on our account for more than double our total bill...not sure why that is necessary and the amounts are not itemized or explained. It is over five days since we checked out and I still have over $1,000 on my credit card from them...this is not ok in my opinion, I have to keep checking for money to be released...why is this necessary. This alone would prevent me from returning.

Comfortable but don’t eat at the restaurants!

For a Ritz Carlton Hotel it was very average. It’s old as the hills, and generally the place has no warmth. The staff were robotic apart from a small handful that were excellent. The food was absolutely awful. I have nothing good to say about the food at all and I warn everyone don’t buy into the hype. Michelin Star or not, the restaurants are rubbish. Go to Cascais or Sintra for dinner at a back-alley mom and pop restaurant.
The facilities at the hotel (pools, showers, sauna/steam rooms, gym, etc.) are great however. I will give them that.

I has stayed at the Penhalonga several times in the past and remembered it being a special hotel where the service and attention for detail were second to none. Unfortunately what I experienced this time was a good intent, by very nice employees with little experience and lots of inefficiencies. I was upgraded to a worse room, I had to expressly request that my sheets be changed, the air conditioner in my room did not work and lastly, the room upgrade was actually a room next to the elevators, so the noise was unbearable, yet they still wanted to charge Eur 120. Its better to leave good memories un touched.

This was a great resort for families. The staff is very prepared and kids can roam the facility, staff watches while parents can take a break. For those without children the hotel keeps the kids separate so they do not get in others way. It does not give the feel of a family hotel but if you are a family it is a great fit.

The staff was so amazing and welcoming and the rooms and grounds are beautiful. The breakfast is a spectacular display of food that makes you not want to miss it on any day of your stay!

This is a wonderful family resort hotel

This was a wonderful stay for our family. We were only going to spend a night but the kids loved the hotel so much we stayed an extra day. The staff was friendly and they had activities for the kids all day. The boys felt comfortable to move around the resort and I was comfortable because the staff actively were engaged with the boys and I knew they were safe. I highly recommend this hotel even to people without kids as the staff is so great you never know kids are around.

Family Vacation in Sintra

Overall, great hotel, and would stay at this hotel again as a home base to visit all the great sites around Sintra. Overall, would rate hotel a 4star versus 5star hotel as carpets were dirty on stairs leading up to and on second level. Also, with the temperature being colder in Sintra, they absolutely need to have a heated family and adult infinity pool (also need to fix jets, and waterfall in pool). This was apparent as almost nobody sat outside beside the pools. Will say, great staff, accessible, truly went out of their way to help you in every way, made the stay very memorable (if we travel again to Portugal, would highly recommend this hotel).

AMAZING! Such a beautiful property. Amenities were amazing! Gym was the best I've ever seen, pool area was stunning, golf course was great and the spa was lovely! Cannot say enough! Also, they hotel treated us so well for our anniversary - champagne to the room. They also ensured we got a reservation at the sushi restaurant when it was full. It was a great meal! Only downfall is it is outside of Sintra so have to Uber for a bit of money but worth it for the resort.

This little gem of a resort just outside Lisbon and Sintra is divine! From the location, to the facilities to the wonderful staff. Nothing was too much and it made our trip an awesome one. All the reasrurants recommended and booked for us were outstanding and the one day car hire with drop off and pick up from the hote was excellent and very reasonable. We also dinned at the Asian fusion restaurat, Spices which was delicious. I can not recommend this Penha Longa enough. Also we spend the last day at the Spa - wow this is also a must - the treatments and staff were also first class.
