This is one of the most beautiful hotels we’ve ever stayed at. We were sick so we spent most of our time in the hotel room and it was so comfortable and quiet. The staff was so nice and even moved us to another room when there was a leaky roof. The breakfast was yummy. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Do be aware that it’s quite a walk uphill when you leave.

It was an amazing experience. It is a shame that it is further to Quinta da Regaleira than what Expedia advertises but it is still walking distance, just mot 10 min and rather 30 minutes. The staff was extremely nice and the breakfast delicious

Overall a good location, spacious room and a property with lots of potential. Staff was efficient, though front desk was not consistently staffed. Continental breakfast was nice & well organized but not spectacular. Our shower had a broken door and the room could have used a good cleaning, as the floors were gritty. Be aware that if you have a room on the ground level, the building is not well insulated so you will hear every footstep should a guest be in the second floor room above you. A very good location and excellent choice for independent travellers.

We enjoyed our stay at Casa Holstein. It's a little tricky to get to, just keep going down the hill through the big green gates. There is lots of room for parking inside the gates. It's very old but very well maintained. The surrounding property must be lovely in spring and summer. The Royal Suite is very nice. There are very good restaurants nearby. Use the nearby bus service to get to the palaces. Driving to them is not helpful because the roads are closed to personal cars. The staff at Casa Holstein was excellent!

Great stay, great breakfast. However, breakfast not served until 9am - that’s too late for tourists planning to take in a full day of Sintra’s many historic sites. Plus, no coffee available in the room, just tea, so early risers like me have to leave the premises to seek out a cafe, or wait…. The room we stayed in (#7) felt very damp and humid, and running the A/C didn’t seem to help much. Finally, room #7 needs a new small fridge - current one gurgles and hums very loudly and pts locally non-stop. Overall though, a beautiful hotel and room as well as surrounding gardens, and attentive staff.

I had a wonderful stay here. The grounds are absolutely beautiful—spacious, peaceful, and surrounded by nature with amazing views in every direction. Everything! This was the most magical stay. Perfect everything. Reminder us of staying in a mini fairytale castle or something out of Bridgerton. Pastries and breads delicious but vegetables old and dry. Awesome to have a carafe of coffee and hot milk to enjoy a nice cuppa or 2 in the morning.

Superb and very quaint \"castle\" hotel/inn. A little tough to find but that's part of the attraction. I stayed in a lovely cottage room No. 9. Beautiful gardens and grounds. Very close to the Municipal Hall. And an excellent restaurant called COMO. Recommended.

Great location close to the old town. The property is unique that it was an aristocrat retreat converted to hotel. The hotel is gated and only accessible with code. The problem we ran into was the hotel wasn’t well integrated with Expedia’s message system. The checkin instruction with entry code never got to us from Expedia message feature or email. We had to call the hotel at the gate to gain entry as the door well doesn’t work.

The Holstein is a charming old hotel set in a beautiful magical garden with several picturesque walkways and hide aways. Thet serve a delicious breakfast with fresh hot baked goods. I highly recommend this hotel.

Nuno was excellent helping us find our way into the parking lot due to an accident at one of the gates. It was raining and he came out to show us in and got extremely wet. He is certainly an asset to the company, nothing was too much trouble for him, He also helped us with a parking ticket we picked up in town. Cafe Holestein stay for Sintra Tour
While we got notice in advance that the \"bell at the gate\" was not working and you would need to call to get someone to open the gate, it tool multiple calls to get anyone to answer the phone. When we asked about the time for breakfast we were told 9 am, and that was too late for us due to tour plans, but actually the area for breakfast opened earlier and we could have availed ourselves of the option if we had been told the correct time. The bathroom was super cold and also had no fan for ventilation causing condensation on the floors and tile walls making floors slippery and grout of tile subject to mold. Definitely needs updating. Location as good but the reception info on how to walk into Sintra Center was lacking. Aside from the location this would rank as a forgettable stay.

We arrived on a rainy day and our room had the windows open so our bed felt very slightly moist which was the only downfall. As a vegan I didn’t have too many options for breakfast but I am used to that. Overall I would absolutely recommend coming here! It can be hard to find at night by car. But the staff is so helpful and kind.

I was told by a local that the elderly owner of the property died a year or so ago and the folks who lease/operate the property have let it go downhill. No one in the family seems to be holding the operators accountable.
With that said, the rooms were nice. Linens were okay but not of the quality you would expect from a hotel of this stature.

Loved the location. 15 minute walk to the city touristy area but such a quiet location away from the business. (Except for the peacock, but he was respectful and didn’t start his calling til after 6:30 am). Loved the available on site parking. Was a little disappointed as the pictures are deceiving, but the charm of the place made up for it. I would definitely stay again!!

This is an historic establishment, with great character and charm. The rooms are attractively furnished in ‘Country House’ style, and are generously proportioned and provided for, (though their phone system needs an overhaul, as I couldn’t make a local call on the room or the one at reception!). We especially liked the pool terrace (great view at sunset), and the faded grandeur of the grounds, though they do really need ‘taking in hand’ with regard to the rear gardens and the pool itself, which is slimy and full of leaves.
The staff were all friendly, and the breakfast staff provided us with generous fare, served on our terrace. (Vishnu was particularly impressive, but everyone made us welcome). In general the rooms were clean, but on arrival our floor needed a good mop, which did our after prompting.
Our main problem was the smell of damp in our room, and the effect it had on my partner’s asthma- he had several coughing fits in the night, due to the damp atmosphere, and because there is no extraction system in the bathroom (Room 9, but other rooms also seemed to lack this). In the short-term a de-humidifier is needed in that room, and cleaning and spraying to remove fungal spores.

Beautiful historic property surrounded by a huge hilly park in the middle of Sintra. Excellent location within walking distance of the town square, the Palacio National and the train station.

Exceeded all expectations!!!
The hotel and the services have absolutely exceeded our expectations! Upon arrival we were offered a complimentary upgrade to a bigger room. The hotel is well kept and located on a beautiful property overlooking the hills and the National Place. Breakfast was included in the price and served outside at the patio. We didn't have a chance to use the pool but it looked amazing too! Giving the staff five stars for their hospitality! Thank you and we will definitely be back!

Casa Holstein hidden gem for Royalty
Wasn't expecting to find such a charming and quaint hotel. Room was clean, spacious with comfy beds, seating area and well equiped mini-bar (no tv though). Our room had a massive walk in shower with all toiletries included. For those travelling by car, there is parking available on site. There are beautiful gardens, outside seating area and a swimming pool. Breakfast was plentiful and varied. Staff were all extremely friendly and professional. Near to train station, bars and city centre was walking distance. Covid rules were adhered to.

This is a beautiful hotel located on a large piece of property but still in a great location. It consists of several pretty buildings as it was once a royal hunting lodge. Our room was large with many windows, a comfortable bed and bedding, a beautiful marble bathroom, an many beautiful antiques in the room. There was a pretty patio area overlooking the gardens and a very pretty breakfast room opening to a patio. The breakfast had many choices. There are pretty peacocks roaming around the property. You are walking distance to the train and sites and restaurants.

This casa Holstein is amazing! We were greeted so warmly with a delicious glass of rose wine. The history was very interesting and we later met one of the nephews of Salvador, who grew up there and may have stayed in our room! . Susan was so gracious and helped us in every way, along with the receptionist. Our room and bath was very spacious and beautiful and the grounds and buildings were exquisite. By far, the best hotel stay of our trip to Portugal!

The House of Falésia has common rooms. The navigators' room complements the maritime decoration, with a game table, television and various sofas; and the caravel room is the dining room where breakfast is served.
All stays include a continental breakfast with some sweet treats traditional from Sintra, being served either in the dining area or in the lodgings for greater privacy. A daily cleaning of the rooms is included throughout the stay.
