The room itself was really nice. Good amenities, good location, good price, good communication from the host. However, the AC unit was filled with black mold, making the entire room need to be continually aired out. This also didn't allow me to use AC at night, causing me to be cold every single night for four nights. Contacting the host about this was quick and easy, but they sent the wrong type of technician over, making the problem unresolved before I left. If this problem didn't exist, I'd easily give 5 stars, but this was an extremely smelly and uncomfortable stay.

The hotel is located in a controlled area for non registered vehicles. So if you are taking Uber to and from this place, be sure to ask the hotel ahead of time for a “ entry code”. I wish the hotel would offer this information voluntarily.
Without the code, our driver had to drop us off about a 10 min walk away and having to haul our luggage, it was not a fun way to begin our stay.
The place is relatively good
value. We particularly like the clean sheets and towels. The common laundry washer and dryer is a plus but was relatively busy during our stay.

What makes this accommodation a 4-star hotel is hard to justify. Yes, most of the listed amenities were officially there. However, some were seriously lacking. Firstly, the heater did not work. We had to troubleshoot ourselves with the help of office staff who could not resolve the technical issue. We had to cope with using the towel warmer to heat the whole unit for all 6 days we stayed there. Secondly, there are laundry facilities, only one washer and dryer. When we tried to use them, they were occupied and it appeared as though the staff was using them for their own purpose. Thirdly, officially there is parking offsite. Access to it is particularly difficult. Most streets are one-way. If one takes a wrong turn, one has to circle the mountain for 11 kilometers to return to the same place. Even disregarding this inconvenience, to reach the hotel to check in or out was an ordeal. The authorization code did not work. It took 3 different codes for access to be granted while cars lined up behind us. We witnessed others experience the same difficulty with the door access. Other minor inconveniences are too many to list. Why Expedia promotes this accommodation baffles us. We will not return there nor recommend it to anyone.

The QR code system doesn't work well when you're using a car, and often there isn't enough internet, so you don't have access to the historic center of Sintra and you can't enter the village where the house is located.

The apartment was great, very clean, great location! We also loved the amenities- free water and a storage room for luggage should you arrive early or want to stay later in Sintra. If I travel here again, I would stay again!

The room was spacious and full of light during daylight hours. The self-check in worked great and the lockers are a nice option. However, the room needs a thorough top to bottom cleaning and paint touch-up. Also, a few more coffee pods and a blanket would be great.

The room was great and the hotel staff was really nice. I would love to give them five stars but the situation getting to the hotel was such an inconvenience. If you’re taking a taxi or Uber transport from the airport, the only way that the driver can bring you up to the location with your luggage and bags is if you get a special QR code. Unfortunately, I was not able to get the QR code when I arrived even though I requested it and had to walk really far uphills with very heavy bags, causing injury to myself and damaging my bags. The Hotel did make sure to give me the QR code for my exit so that the driver could come to pick me up to take me to the airport so that did make it a little better also the issue with the codes. Sometimes they shut off so if you get in late, you have to call and get it reactivated but outside of this And honestly, even with this situation, it still didn’t make me not enjoy my stay here. The great thing also is that there is a number you can call or someone is available pretty much 24 seven to help right away all in all I’d say it was a great experience and I would stay here again, but I would definitely plan better to make sure that I didn’t have the same issue getting to the actual location from the airport

They need to be more organized with communication between the guests and employees. Lock on our door didn't work, outside door lock failed as well. Outside door was wide open at night till it got fixed. Safety should be a main concern for guests. Room was great though.

The check in was stressful and unorganized. We were to receive an email with the codes we needed for the apartment which we did not get. Could not reach anyone. Thankfully a local person helped us. 90 minutes later they found our reservation and we were finally let in

We visited with a group of 8 friends. My wife and I were only there for a night on our way to the airport the next day. This was way too short!! Our room was HUGE, nice, comfortable, perfect! We had a peek-a-boo view of the castle on the hill. This is located perfectly near restaurants and Sintra sights. We really want to return for a longer stay!

This property has the potential to be a Hidden Gem if only the owner would maintain it properly it could use a coat of paint a good cleaning and repairs to several things in the room
We saw a cockroach and several other bugs I would not recommend this place until the owner takes some pride in it

Very good location, albeit that there's a short uphill walk to get to the main square - that seems to be the case for everywhere in Sintra!
The apartment itself was very comfortable with a big bed, air-conditioning and lovely views. It was clean and the bathroom was a decent size. The kitchen area was adequate for my purposes but could probably do with updating.
I stayed in the loft room and am short, so it wasn't an issue for me but taller guests may find the low beams problematic.

The only thing about the studio I had it’s in the second floor no mentioning about that. I am a 65 years old and I have injured in my foot. It take me a long time to take my luggage to the second floor.

The street was closed off to our uber driver so we had to walk 400m with our heavy luggage, which was really tough and inconvenient. Additionally, the plumbing was problematic and made the whole apartment smell really badly of feces. Even when someone came to fix the shower, the place still smelled and their only solution was to use air fresheners.

Felt like a local and would absolutely stay here again!

Great communication and very well kept space woth awesome AC.

Close to everywhere and everything you need to see. Make sure to pick their spot to park as that was the most difficult part of the stay. But the effort was worth the reward!

Comfortable Casa - without a Car

The location of this property was a pro - for closeness to the centre of the historical area. A nice 2-5 min walk to all the local shops & restaurants (our favourite was Becco da Villa) and only a 10-15min walk to Quinta da Regaleria. It also provided picturesque views of the surrounding hills - see pictures.

But definitely a con for parking - which is street parking only ~700m away. There is an option to get a code to enter the city to drop of your suitcases - saying the route is convoluted is an understatement. We tried to use Uber & Bolt - from the parking area to our room - with no luck. So we had to drag our suitcases for the ~700m over steep, cobbled streets.

The Casa is very spacious - the bed was massive & comfortable. Everything else was clean and in good working condition - with the exception of the dated “a/c” unit. Even running on high - with the shutters closed - our room never cooled enough in our opinion.

Overall we enjoyed our stay - minus the parking.

Mediocre stay in a lovely location

While the historic downtown of Sintra is beautiful, this stay left a bit to be desired. The listing advertises parking as included, but what that actually means is that public parking is available a 20 minute walk away. In the apartment, both bathrooms toilets had broken flush buttons that worked only intermittently and on the last night of our stay, the air conditioning was not functioning normally. The host company could not be reached by telephone and has been unresponsive to my last email message.

This is really a gem hidden in the center of Sintra. The property is clean and well maintained. The staff is available and very responsive. Everything you need dinning wise is at a walkable distance. Because it is in a historic area access by car or door Uber service is difficult without a QR code. Other than this, this is an amazing property and the rooms are just as shown on the booking sites.

The town is very old with narrow streets and is restricted to residents or people renting there. You are given a code to allow your car in, but for some reason, you can use it only once. We missed a turn causing us to leave the restricted area, then couldn't get back in. We had to call for help. They also require you to use WhatsApp which we weren't used to. On the last day we were to check out, we left the apartment to check on something and their code box locked us out. They had set our departure time for 1 AM instead of 11 AM. So, we had to call again to get back into the apartment. It was 9 AM and no one answered the phone. They need to come up with a better system.

Unusual but superb place to stay - just slightly off the beaten track - but extremely close to the tourist Mecca that is the Historic center of Sintra. We had a minor glitch on the automatic check-in (accessing the needed codes) - but a phone call to the provided number saw it resolved very quickly and efficiently. We were very impressed.

The location is very good. It’s close to Vila Sassetti, from where you could walk up to Pena Palace and Moorish Castle. Fabrica da Nata has best tarts I have ever had in Portugal. The casa/hotel is equipped with all essential items. Check-in is automatous and was very easy for me. Would definitely stay again!

The property is clean, and nicely finished. The location is central, and you can walk to a variety of restaurants, and shops, as well as many of the sites.
The downfall lies in the immediate communication with the staff on hand. Having to ask for check in information on the morning of, as well as the facilities not supplying sufficient cleaning agents for the washing ammenities was a big problem ( and not communicating until the next day was unacceptable). Washing my underwear and socks in the sink with hand soap, and then blow drying them for 1/2 hour isnt my idea of a good time. Otherwise, the facility was nice over all.

Great place except for the power outage

The hotel has great location. It is 1-2 minute walk from the palace of sintra. The beds, sheets and towels were very fine. Decor was beautiful considering it was retrofitted from a very old building.

However there were several issues during our stay. Communication regarding how to locate the place was confusing. It would have been better if they told you to start at palace of sintra and walk 1-2 minutes down the hill towards the only Tandoori restaurant. It was just past this restaurant. The QR code to open gate to city centre did not work. I felt bad for our uber driver. The power went out at 10pm, on a very cold night. They could not restore electricity (there is no one at property). They did offer to relocate us. However we would have had to repack everything, wake up the children and locate another property in the dark. Due to the power outage the fire alarm in our room kept blinking and I was unable to sleep.

I wish they had staff at the property. They are quick to respond to messages.

Overall it was a bad stay mainly due to the power outage (the properties surrounding had power). I am not sure if the they can
mitigate this due to the age of this village and property or with a backup generator.

Advertised that parking was available. Failed to disclose that the apartment was in a limited access district and that the parking was on the other side of town. Also, they did not send acess codes on a timely basis causing a delay in our departure from Lisbon and forced us to download a third party messaging app. This is an absentee management company in Singapore. Spoiled visit.

Very nice stay in a two bedroom apartment on the bottom floor of the hotel. Staff were very communicative and nice and we had no trouble getting our access to the hotel and rooms set up before we arrived. Free luggage storage was super nice. Room itself is a little older but quite comfortable. They do a very thorough job cleaning before you arrive. There was a fridge, stove, espresso machine, hot water boiler, microwave, and dishwasher. Bathrooms were nice and spacious too, with water that got warm/hot fairlt quickly and consistently. Free use of the in-room and community washers and dryers was super nice. Location wise it's walkable from the main shopping area in Sintra and across the street from the National Palace of Sintra, and 15 minute fast walk from the Quinta de Regaleira. It is down a hill so be aware of that if you have trouble walking. We really enjoyed our stay here and would not hesitate to book here again if we returned to Sintra. (pS the Indian restaurant next door is SOLID! Highly recommend.)

This seems a residential rental, not a hotel. We arrived late and they said OK, but it was from another office's response. When arriving 8pm, door was closed and nobody in service. Call another line, took a long time to find my reservation. They don't have frontdesk, everything online, everything self serviced, but they did not email clearly upfront. Avoid this hotel for the trouble

Great loft experience. Plenty of space and a lovely kitchenette. In the heart of old Sintra and it is really nice to stay a night versus taking the bus as you can see the crowds trying to navigate their way around.

Be cognizant of ubers etc, cars are limited jn the area so you need to walk a block or so in. Not far at all

It is a bit difficult to call Uber because they need a QR code to go inside the property. Once, they give us a QR code doesn't work, the car can't go inside, we need to carry our grocery walk back to the hotel, and it is a inclined road.

We had a rental car so needed a QR code to access the restricted zone to drop off our luggage. The one provided had already been used so we were told by security that we would need a new code. It took well over an hour to get while waiting in our car, at the gate, on a hill on a narrow road where we had to keep repositioning our car for others to get by. We never did get another code to re-enter to pick up our luggage. If you are going to drive, which is not recommended, driving anything larger than a small compact car will prove extremely difficult. Our compact barely fit down several narrow roads, including the one leaving this vacation rental (we had to pull our mirrors in). We saw an SUV have to back out down the hill and around a couple of tricky corners.

The unit was highly scented and I had to search for the source and found a scented plug which I had to remove from the room and open all the windows.

The location was convenient to dining and shops. Unfortunately the coffee shops don’t open until 9:30 so finding an early breakfast was unsuccessful. The bus and tuk tuks are only a 5 minute walk away and the train 15.

This place exceeded our expectations. We stayed in the two bedroom Appartment. It was huge and so spacious making it very comfortable for our family of 4. 2 large bathrooms and we were thankful for a tub. The location was great, a tasty Indian restaurant just a little ways up from it and a 2 min walk to the bustling historic center.

We enjoyed the fresh apples every day and a sip of port at night in the common room.

A wonderful place! Would definitely stay again!

The location is very close to National palace, really Central Area.

The communication of direction and not to use google map etc is actually quite confusing. But it’s generally uneasy to drive in Sintra, so not the host’s issue

I didn’t pay the city tax online before I arrive, therefore I didn’t get the passcode I needed. I suggest guests to pay upfront, although I thought it’s a bit unsure about security of paying on that link. (It ended up ok.)

Main down side is the smell of old pipe in the unit, especially in the bathroom. I think it might be an issue of all old buildings, but I can’t confirm.

The location is awesome, and the loft was spacious and clean with lots of natural light.

The LovelyStay team communicated everything we needed to know for our stay through WhatsApp, and made contactless check-in so easy.

We arrived to Sintra earlier than our check-in time and used the safe and secure luggage storage area on the property.

place for 1 night in Sintra

We took the train from Rossio Lisbon to Sintra and walked with our roller bags to the historic center. The route takes you on the perimeter of a lovely park with sculptures along the way. We made our way to Casa da Pendoa and got checked in by a very helpful and personable clerk, who also carried our bags down the outdoor street stairs to where our room was located. We had a studio with a kitchenette, which was fine and comfortable for one night. However, there was a bit of a moldy smell emanating from the kitchen sink--I wouldn't have wanted to cook there! There's also very little in the way of groceries or provisions available in the old town. We had dinner at a nearby restaurant that was recommended by the hotel clerk, and it was fantastic. The tour of Pena Palace and all of the magnificent views between Sintra's old town and the Atlantic Ocean added a lot to our first visit to Portugal. I expect that we'll be back!

We enjoyed our stay a lot. The location of the apartment is superb: it is in the center, but on a small quiet side street. It is comfortable and clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The price included a “breakfast basket” (crackers, cheese, butter and marmalade) and fresh bread every morning. Upon our arrival we were offered a bottle of wine (the owners are wine makers). The apartment is equipped with all the necessary utilities, including a dishwasher and a coffeemaker. Everything was in perfect order, except for the fan (heater) in the bathroom, but we easily did without it. I can recommend this place to couples and families as it is spacious enough.

Mattresses could be updated however, which is my only complaint (the coils in the mattress make it very uncomfortable to sleep on your side).

However, I would still stay here again, because the view and the wee kitchen were perfect! Apparently we were in the 'smallest' room, but it was exactly what we needed. We were in the separate building a block away from the main one. This building was great and had a fantastic shared terrace, with the most amazing view!

Update the mattresses, and I'd want to move in here forever :)

I really enjoyed staying at Casa da Pendoa! The hotel manager/owner kindly welcomed me upon my arrival, explaining about basic things about the property and suggesting the itineraries of Sintra (his suggestion worked very well!). He upgraded my room so I could have a bigger and better room. I really appreciated it! The room is HUGE and very clean and convenient (with kitchen and table and a welcome basket)! It is facing toward the mountain and Quinta da Regaleira so the view is just striking! I loved to look at awe-inspiring big trees and the sunset in the evening. I am so happy to choose to stay at Casa da Pendoa for my last stay in Portugal.

The location is excellent even though a bit difficult to find at first. It is near restaurants, shops and the main plaza of the town. The place has all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay and the staff are very accommodating.

What a wonderful place to stay in Sintra! Yes, the drive into town can be difficult and parking hard during tourist season (had we been able to do so it would've been better to check in late in the day when there was more space and fewer people walking in the streets). The staff were SO super helpful and friendly - on multiple fronts!! Thank you. The rooms were quiet and very stylish (2 bedrooms with a small kitchen and tasty welcome basket) and it was super easy to walk into town through the adorable streets of Sintra. We were able to find a taxi up to the Pena Palace (cheaper than paying for four bus tickets) and then we walked down through the gardens of Pena (\"valley of the lakes\" direction) then over to Villa Sassetti and back into town. Helpful tip --- if it's high season, the line at the Pena Palace for the 'inside/stateroom' may be WAY long. The cheaper 'Pena parc' tickets still get you onto the terraces, which you can spend an hour on alone just taking in the colors and views. P.S. Fun stop at A'moura on the walk back to the center for a white port tasting (super knowledgeable, friendly, great energy of the owner).

Great location in the heart of Sintra. The small apartment was just perfect for our family of four and we had a great time spending the night in the town -- enjoying the quiet after all the tourists had gone home. One suggestion if you want to go to the famous colorful castle -- leave your car at the Casa da Pandoa and take a tuk tuk or uber to the top. We drove and it was madness. I wish the folks at the hotel had encouraged us to leave the car and find another way to the top.

Lanes to the hotel were very narrow and better to have a small car. We rang the hotel about driving instructions. The lady was very helpful. She came out to the city center to guide us to drive through the narrow lanes to get to the hotel. The apartment room was very large with kitchen and milk, juice, coffee and tea provided. Every morning two breads were hanging outside of the door.

We asked for the room with terrace in the second building. On arrival the kitchen floor was dirty. A chair had holes. Stairwell to first floor had many scuff marks. Hairs were stuck to a step and the toilet light switch. Shower window blind had old gel and black mould on. Bedroom window surrounds also had black mould. Bathroom sink very old and rusty. Shelf had water and toothpaste stains. Garden area very scruffy , overgrown and in need of tidy and clean up. Good points- mattress looked ok. Staff were very good about it all. We did not stay.
