Really enjoyed our stay. I worried that as a middle aged straight couple we would be out of place but we were made to feel comfortable everywhere from check in, at breakfast and in the bar.
The hotel is within an easy walk of all the tourist sites and museums and there were loads of restaurants to choose from each evening.

Alternative hotel welcoming LGBTQ+ guests and as they also state in signage, heterofriendly. Rooms just a bit dark, at least mine. Perhaps the rooms facing outward can be brighter but on the inner open courtyard ring the light was minimal even on a very sunny day. But aside from that, great room, great shower, good amenities like bar and room service. No water in the room except mini-bar - I think every hotel should provide this as a standard. Or do that thing where you can fill your own glass jug in the lobby and bring to the room. Anyway, the bar was great fun with good banter albeit not large space. Would stay here again.

The room was comfy and clean, well-appointed and centrally located so that it seemed just about everything was a 6-10 minute walk. The staff was friendly and easily conversed with me in English. Even if I slept til noon and didn't leave my room until 14:00, it was cleaned on my return each day, and none of my things went missing. Highly recommended!

My partner and I loved our stay at Axel Madrid. We were in room 006, was so spacious and well designed. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooftop was great and fun, with spectacular sunset views. Great location. Gym a little small. Friendly clientele, and welcoming safe space.

The breakfast was extremely enjoyable, along with the service from its staff. Laundry service was quick and easy. The food catering/room service was also delicious with plenty of options. The location of the hotel is ideal for tourist attractions. Unfortunately, I couldn’t mirror my iPhone apps like YouTube, to the Samsung format. Otherwise, great place to stay while in Madrid.

Let me start by saying that the staff were wonderful and that the company does read the reviews which I applaud.
The problem, for me anyway, was the hotel design itself. The corridors were very dark, gloomy and bare. This gloomy atmosphere continues with the room. The room is effectively a bathroom with a bed in it. The shower, sink and toilet are all in from of the bed.
I don’t mind seeing / hearing my significant other shower or wash their hands but seeing, hearing and smelling someone use the bathroom is not something I like.
The rooftop has a bar and quite a large pool along with a rooftop view.
Many restaurants and bars in the area.
Once again the staff and management were great.

recently stayed at Axel Hotel Madrid, and overall, it was a mixed experience. The hotel is definitely showing its age. The carpet in my room was stained, there were cracks on the walls, and the beds were very hard, which made it uncomfortable to sleep. On top of that, the room’s telephone wasn’t working, which was frustrating.

On the positive side, the staff was absolutely wonderful. Everyone I interacted with was super friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The hotel itself is kept very clean and has a pleasant fragrance throughout, which made common areas and hallways feel fresh and well-maintained.

In short, the service and cleanliness were great, but the rooms need some updating and more attention to comfort

No es nuestra primera vez en este hotel y nuestra experiencia siempre es muy agradable. Celebrabamos nuestro 9 aniversario en el hotel.
Para nuestra sorpresa el equipo de Axel Madrid nos dejo una nota felicitandonos nuestro aniversario, además unos chocolates y una botella de champan.
Son estos pequeños gestos los que marcan la diferencia.
Lo único que resaltaría es que hacía calor en la habitación y el colchón esta vez nos resultó un poco incómodo se nos clavavan los hierros dle colchón pero no quisimos molestar a recepción, por lo que no les dijimos nada.

Really enjoyed the hotel. Upscale without being over the top. Well priced. Friendly, helpful staff. Had one of the beat breakfasts of my Spanish stay there. Massage by David was top notch. Room is nice and comfortable but its a bit dark. Rooftop and pool we re terrific. Apparentky the hetero set has definitely gotten the memo, but hope it doesnt dominate the vibe. Regardless, i recommend.

The hotel had a nice rooftop bar and while I only went during the day, it seemed like a welcoming place to socialize. The room was very large and had a fun style. Unfortunately, it felt very cold and wasn’t well lit, some of the lights also flickered. The area was great, a quick walk to everything and breakfast was also really good, although the seating area for breakfast felt a bit small

Front desk help was amazing. Provided great information and was very friendly.
The bartender not so much. We had to wait quite a while for him to wait on us. He wasn’t very friendly actually seemed kind of annoyed. He spilled my glass of champagne and if it wasn’t for another customer saying that he spilled it, I think he would’ve blamed me.
The room was fine but since it seemed to be geared towards a couples fun night it was awkward for my daughter and I. The shower was exposed to the room. Zero privacy.
Breakfast was good. I don’t think it was worth the price since we had stayed in Madrid at another hotel a few blocks closer to Plaza Sol and it was much less and just as nice.

Everybody charming at front desk. Nice place, well located. Roof terrasse/bar/pool that must be awesome during the warm season (it was too cold during our visit). Our room was decorated very stylishly, well equipped, fairly quiet, rather small however. We would return, even though we were a hetero couple in a place considering itself a gay hotel, we felt very welcomed.

I went during a quiet period for the city so had no issues with any noise, and my room was peaceful, spacious, clean, and everything finished to a high standard.

So firstly the hotel is gorgeous, the rooms are stunning, SO well done, comfortable and HUGE! I’ve lived in apartments smaller than the suite I had!
The bathrooms are insane, some of my best (and raciest) selfies have been taken in that bathroom.

The team are wonderful, so helpful and just the loveliest people who really go out their way to make you feel welcome.

Cleanliness is outstanding, my suite, and the hotel in general, is spotless!

So why a 4 star rating… this is a Herron-friendly hotel, meaning (to me) it’s a gay hotel first and foremost, and all others in this chain are smack bang in the middle of gay life and shopping…
Madrid Axel is very much NOT in the heart of the gay scene or decent shopping. In fact it’s a 20mins walk from the gay neighbourhood or a $20 uber, the shopping and dining options are also non-existent unless you want to live on Burger King (which I do not). EVERYTHING is miles away, more importantly this is the middle of the city centre, it’s dirty around the hotel, noisy and at night… well thankfully my room had the most insanely noise insulating shutters and curtains (which I found on the second night, having been kept up until 4am with drunks screaming outside.

If I could pick this hotel up and move it a mile it would be literally perfect… but for me it’s too far out of where it should be.

It was convenient to walk anywhere you wanted in the main area. There was always a front desk person. We were able to leave our baggage before check in. Our main issues were that it was very loud till quite late in the night (2 am) which is fine as long as you know what to expect. Also someone walked into our LOCKED room while we were asleep and we had to scream for them to leave. We reported it to the front desk and followed up but all we got it the standard apology and that they will be checking the cameras…

To be honest it is a nice hotel. I think it could do with a slight refresh. The scent in the main reception area is quite overpowering. During the day there is quite loud music playing in the hallway which meant getting a nap during the day wasn't the best. I think someone else must've complained as the speakers in my corridor got turned off I think. Seems like an odd choice regardless.

My room and bed was nice though the TV was at an odd angle like it had been knocked and not repaired properly. The shower took a long time to run hot but once it did it was fine. Some way to close the sleeping area off from the wash and toilet area world be nice.

On check out however I was asked if I took anything from the mini bar, which I hadn't. However I appear to have been charged €8 regardless for who knows what. Not much but I'm not happy about it either.

Chose this as I was there in the summer and the roof bar area was very convenient. At end nov it was hired out for multiple events which meant we couldn’t use it.
So
Good in summer if you want the pool. Otherwise other hotels would likely be better.

Loved the unique dark and moody room decor and design. Also loved the rooftop pool and bar. Everything else was pretty standard. The only negative was our room was on the 9th floor on courtyard side and for some reason there were people hanging out in the lobby area after midnight and I could hear them talking loudly in my room 9 floors up which did not allow me to sleep.

This was a very delightful hotel. Exceptionally friendly staff who all spoke English. I got a room facing the inner courtyard and it was super quiet. My friends got a room facing the street and they said they got some street noise each night that woke them up, which I would have been bummed about if I had been in their room. The breakfast buffet was super delicious and of great quality and variety. I would definitely stay here again.
