Everything was the worst that we ever experienced in our holiday! My children and I went to the hotel, after my children did not want to book there for new year, however I thought it was nice since my children did my birthday there. We paid the hotel already. Upon arrival the woman at reception gave us our bracelets for all inclusive and the room slip and for our dinners. There was a different woman came from the back office and said she is the manager and asked us how we would like to pay. We said we had already paid and the woman who gave the bracelets told us the payment was received and that why she gave us the bracelets, she said no although we showed her the receipt of the payment.We were waiting and waiting we missed our dinners and then we went to reception and asked to speak the manager, we were told she is busy in the party, cut a story short, we said if she is not available, we were told to call the police and explained the fraud and suddenly the manager appeared and said you could enjoy or if the police would come we would have to leave. We went for the first option since it was quite close to new year, we made the most of it, the following day it was a similar scenario until the following day when we left, the manager apologised to say the payment was received. It seemed to be very disorganised and not knowing what is going on. Stay away from this hotel and expedia!!!

Great for families!

We knew before we stayed it would be a family focused resort, and it absolutely is. If you're looking for an all inclusive where your kids can be entertained and you can kick back this is for you. The hotel is dated and I wouldn't say it meets 5 stars, but the staff are friendly and it's located next to some great hikes and beaches.

Had a nice stay at Gran Tagoro recently with my family. The hotel is great, rooms clean and staff friendly.

Food is ok, but got boring later in the stay, always the same at breakfast and lunch. We did not get dinner.

A good family vacation

It was a good family hotel, could do with other restaurants on site, 7 nights is more than enough and you probably want to eat out as the buffet can get very tired and their Italian restaurant on site can be difficult to book with having to be book 2 days in advance. There's adult only sections but naturally are close to children areas so felt bad as no doubt they heard many screaming kids.

The rooms were clean enough though expect dirty feet by the end of it, highly recommend the Merlin rooms if taking kids, definitely kept the little one entertained. All in all a good vacation with the family, 5 nights is more than enough to be honest, one final note for families, the baby club is not a baby club and instead is just a creche, we thought there would be organised activities but there was not for our 17 month old.

You have to go!

We had the most amazing holiday, the hotel employees couldn't do enough to help and were incredibly friendly with out two young children. The evening entertainment was brilliant and the hotel facilities were exactly what we wanted.

The only slight bit of feedback would be that more vegan options at the restaurant would be great...but that's a very specific point and generally the food was great.

Not 5* food but great for kids

Staff were very friendly and service was generally very quick. Room and bathroom were large and clean but some decor throughout the hotel was a bit dated. We felt the facilities weren’t big enough for the number of potential guests. We didn’t have very good weather for most of our stay but there weren’t enough sun beds round the main pool when the sun came out. Kids club was great and they did a range of activities and mini disco every night - the staff were really enthusiastic and clearly cared for the children. Our 6 yr old daughter loved the slide pool. We were really disappointed with the food. There wasn’t much variety in the main buffet. No freshly cut fruit, some tinned fruit. Desserts were the same every day/night and weren’t replenished quick enough. We went to the Italian restaurant once and found our meal appalling (pasta too salty, starters sat out too long). We saw some evening entertainment which was fine. I wouldn’t say it was a 5* hotel.

Great holiday. We spent a week here and proved to be the right choice for us. Everything including the staff were excellent and the place was very clean considering they have so many to cater for. Only negative was 2 out of the 4 restaurants were closed so the main buffet area was congested at times. The adults area was shutdown during our stay as the pool needed maintenance but it would be unfair to criticise them for this. Overall we were very happy and would definitely go back.

I loved the staff everyone was so friendlythe location was perfect and walking distance to the beaches lively bars and great trails, and rooms were big and beautiful but this is what I didn’t like the food was horrible undercooked or overcooked so many kids putting there hands on buffet food. I believe they tried there best but food needs to improve. The drinks were bad as well you couldn’t get a decent drink except for the wine. I paid for all inclusive but ended up eating out every night and buying groceries.. I’m not sure I could stay here again I was dissapointed…..

Amazing!

The hotel is big, but for a reason. There are differ areas- family, kids adult only, so it benefits from the size. We utilised the adults only area and found it really peaceful.
The staff are amazing and keen to help.
All-inclusive food is good and varied, but we get bored so eat out after a couple of nights.
The location is on the seafront. It is in a very quiet area, but the marina and the town are within walking distance ( 20 mins to marina and further 20 mins to Playa Blanca town.
I would definitely recommend.

Brilliant hotel with lovely amenities. Food / drink couldn't be faulted, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Room was great, had a very private balcony / terrace with brilliant sea views. Hotel would be highly recommended.
Only down side is the area of Lanzarote - there is limited local shopping, cafes / restaurants and evening entertainment. Hotel is great and had everything we needed, but there was little within the area to leave the hotel for.

Hotel was very nice and confortable. All inclusive made it better. Travelling with an 18month old for the first time made us very anxious but the hotel staff were very accommodating to our needs. Hotel is also 2 minutes from a mini shopping complex and a supermarket which was perfect. Hotel is close to papagayos beach, unfortunately getting to it proved unsuitable with a small child as it was a 15min walk up and down rocky hills. Extremely dangerous. Luckily a more family orientated beach is only a 10min taxi ride. The only disadvantage about the hotel is that there is no soft play area where you can play or leave any child under the age of 2. Most activities were for children age 4 years plus which was a bit inconvenient. But we would return here in a couple of years.

Quite far out and not alot of sun loungers at big pool. My son was frozen and he had soaked every towel and his lips were blue but the life guard/towel.girl would not let us have a dry one (it was overcast and she had plenty). The shop sold inflatables so naturally.our son wanted one...waste of 12 euro because your not allowed to use them in the pool. Kids club not as long as stated so couldnt do much with our little treasure. Dining room.floor super slippey my son fell and hurt his back (wasnt running). Not 5 star more like 4 im afraid sondont book if u want the wow factor. Entertainment team were ok. Overly busy resort!!

The pool areas were over crowded, luxury facilities only available to adults only, Towel service open 2 hours a day, restaurant floor was needed sweeping, pool area didn’t provide bottled water, hole in dressing gown and towel, Food was ok. Really didn’t rate this hotel as 5 star.

Great place. Friendly staff. Clean surroundings. Food good not excellent. Went out to marina for evening meals as too noisy in main buffet restaurant (children) but not complaining as it’s a family venue. The two al’ Carte venues - Italian restaurant Portofino was nice and the Asian one was good too.
Rooms very spacious and clean. For a five star hotel the towels and bath robes were disappointing as they were like cardboard.
Good range of drinks available in the all inclusive menu and overall a hotel and venue I would recommend and go back to.

Great for kids, but not five star

The kids entertainment and food was amazing. Overall the staff were good barring one guy who was the least helpful person I have ever met within customer service. The only thing I was really disappointed with was the beach- there wasn’t one. The site made it look like there is a beach at the end of the hotel. What you actually have is a rocky algae coastline where you can’t take the kids to play with the sand. Although happy overall as my daughter was fully entertained with the events and kids club, I have to stress in my view this isn’t a five star resort. If it was graded appropriately I would have managed my expectations. I would stay again purely for the kid factor but would not pay as much as I did.

This was a good break, all staff members are friendly, helpful and even smiling! They give the impression that nothing would be too much trouble for them.

Some reviews I have read suggested the food was poor, but the buffet restaurant I found was really quite good. Food was varied and as hot as possible for a buffet restaurant. Only 1 night we could not get sat as it was to busy so had to crown round a table for 2.

Merlin Kids room was great.

The only bad points really were the fact we couldn't book to eat at the Chinese or Italian restaurant as both were full (and we tried to book on the morning of the day after we arrived which is pretty poor). Also the 'heated' pools... I'm not sure what kind of pool heating they are referring to, but if there is any then it is inadequate and really needs addressing.

If it wasn't for the cold pools I would very likely come back, but when the kids are complaining it's too cold and at the height of the day there were only 4-5 people in the pool everyone was agreeing it didn't seem heated. This alone means I will not be returning, which is a shame because everything else was pretty good!

Was a lovely hotel with very friendly staff. Ideal for families as great range of stuff for them to do, pools 5d cinema and beach near by. We thouroughly enjoyed our stay. Food was good although a little limited for our son but he is quite picky. Breakfast was his favourite meal with freshly made pancakes and beans. Us parents more than enjoyed the food wide range and all delicious. Fillet steaks cooked to order a real treat in buffet!! Rooms were large and cleaned everyday, lovely touch with robes and slippers. Only downside was son was on a sofa bed which was very springy and not that comfortable. Nice walk to the harbour about 10 mins then a further 10 or 15 mins to Playa Blanca town centre which we walked one day and taxi back for €4. We also hired bikes at reception for €9 for 2 hours which were fabulous, great fun and great way to get to the town etc. Pools were clean and main one warm enough and great adults only pool for when our son in kids club. Only qualm was that liquor coffees not included but yet u can them all separate?? The cocktails were all pre mixed and u need to ask for extra rum etc or just like juice but tasty enough. I’m not a gin drinker but the gin list for all inclusive was great had tanquriy which I hear is very good. I just stuck to the Smirnoff vodka which they had so I was happy. Son loves the mini disco in evening but bit repetitive for parents but keeps them happy so we were happy. The other entertainment was good fun there was a music quiz etc

Very Good Family Hotel

The family thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would definitely consider returning to the hotel in the future.

The facilities we very good, particularly for children. Our 5 year old daughter loved the kids club and mini-disco!

There is a very good baby club with toys and a sleeping area (0-3 yr olds) but our 18 month old didn't like being left, so we didn't get much usage.

The food was very good, varied and high quality (none the less you will tire of buffet restaurant after a while so worth trying some of the other restaurants).

The evening entertainment is decent enough but gets a bit repetitive after a few days. Its starts with the Kids Mini Disco from 8 - 8.45, which is mayhem, but the kids loved it (Adults, get yourself a stiff drink or two)

Overall we thought the hotel and AI option were great value for money

We had a lovely 4 night stay at the Gran Castillo in November 2017. Staff were brilliant and couldn’t be more helpful. Food was good and lots of choice for everyone. Hotel was clean and kept very tidy.
Nice walk to the Marina which took about 20 minutes.

Stayed here from 25th Oct 17 for 9 nights with my wife and 9yr old son who had a fantastic time. The staff were all fantastic. Food and drink excellent for the price. I wouldn't rate it a five star as it is in need of a refurb in some areas but overall excellent value. Rooms are huge and cleaned every day. Would definitely stay here again.

Something for all the family

Our third stay at this hotel, which says it all! This a wonderful child focussed hotel but with the added bonus of an adult only area where mum and dad can relax while the kids enjoy the fantastic kids club. We were amazed at the new super fast WiFi throughout hotel even from your sun bed! Food choice was as excellent as ever especially Christian and the show cooking team! All the staff cannot do enough for you and make both adults and kids alike feel very special guests. Grit and Rosa on reception were exceptional. We didn’t have a Merlin room this year and superior room was a little tired and not super clean but great size and lovely huge bathroom. Great stay and well recommended for families with young kids!

1st time I've ever been back to a resort.

This is the first time I've ever gone back to a resort and this is because it's a great hotel, food is great always something too choose never left thinking what can I have. Even a great choice for kids. There are adult only areas over the resort, so even with it being advertised as a family resort you can avoid kids if you really want too. Only thing I would have liked is premium drinks brands but you can get this if you upgrade to the next level. Next time I probably would as was not a big jump, but also gives you use of the Bali beds. 15/20 minute walk to the harbour if you fancy something different (resturants/bars/market twice a week). I would say it's a 30 minute ride from the airport and was 47 euros in taxi. Plenty of sun beds , variety of pools, great sized bedrooms. Not much more you could ask for from a resort. Have been in September and October and was great as not overcrowded and few children so very relaxing, wouldn't like to say how busy it could get July / August you could have a different experience! Overall I would still go back again as so had many people who had also been before. Value for money most definitely.

Great reception staff with welcome drinks and porter assistance on arrival. Our kids are 6 and 4. Kids loved the kids club and the dragon paddling pool with slides. A good line up of evening entertainment and the kids really enjoyed the mini disco and parrot show etc. The meet and greet with Dan Dreamer were great highlights. We went at the end of August and the resort was not too busy, no wait times for restaurant and there were plenty of deck chairs every day in the various pool locations. Staff were brilliant and made every effort to make you comfortable and were flexible to make your stay perfect. Good variety of food in buffet restaurant each day and not monotonous at all. Good and friendly show
cooking chef. A great 5 star experience and we will either be back or try out their other dream resorts soon.

This is NOT a 5-Star report, by a long way!!!

The review I have written for this hotel requires much more than the permitted 1500 characters to list the many legitimate issues and problems we had during our 11-night stay at the Gran Castillo Tagoro.

My family and I holidayed at this hotel in August 2017, and our overall experience was far from positive. Whilst the hotel may have received 5-stars for what it supposedly offers, the reality is strikingly different and we received a very poor overall level of service, akin to a very mediocre 4-star hotel, at best. I've stayed in many 5-star hotels both with my family and on business trips, plus a 6-star in Moscow and a 7-star in Dubai; so my experience of staying in varying starred hotels over many years is considerable.

In brief, the restaurants are all grossly understaffed and employees poorly trained to deliver a 5-star level of service. The evening dress code was a joke - you can wear everything from flip-flops to casual short and football shirts so does nothing to convey the hotel as an establishment of high calibre and quality clientele. It might as well be a McDonalds!

Food supposed to be cold or chilled was regularly room temperature or warm and food meant to be served hot was frequently barely warm or sometimes cold. Waiting staff frequently brought incomplete or incorrect drinks orders.

I haven't even listed the several issues with our room (replenishment, sofa bed and shower), plus the booking of their special restaurants, table clearance, etc.....

Just back from a 12-night stay with husband and two children (aged 3 and 6). It was our first all-inclusive holiday and it was amazing. We never made it to the Chinese restaurant but alternated between the buffet and the Italian restaurants, which were both very good. As it was August, it was very busy especially after 10am for breakfast and after 8pm for dinner. Also, we couldn't keep our eyes off the kids in the pools (as there were so many children in the pools). That's why we loved the beach opposite the hotel; it was a little stony, not your typical sandy beach, which may have been the reason that it was very quiet. We loved it as it gave us a bit more space and privacy than the busy pool areas and the sea was crystal clear and great for snorkelling.

classed as five star hotel. more like a3 to 4 star hotel. some areas not cleaned daily, food variety good but not up to 5star standard. some staff need to be retrained on customer relations, but majority were pleasant and helpful. a hotel for families only i would suggest, although there are areas for adults only, very noisy especially at meal times. the entertainment is child based so at times the artists were amateurish.

This is a bit out of the way! We love Playa Blanca, but had to hire bikes to get around or Taxis.
Our room was large but the floors were so dirty and to keep shoes on all the time. The beds were the most uncomfortable bed we have ever sleep on !!! We would have been better sleeping on the Floor.
The food isn't too good. Eat out every night as the restaurant always stunk of Bad Fish even at Breakfast.
My 12 year old was so bored not much for his age.
People put towels out to reserve sunbeds before 7am! so you had no chance of getting one. Even though the rules state \"No Reserving sunbeds before 10AM\". So had to pay for a Bali bed every day.
Dont think this hotel is a 5 star at all.
The pools bar staff was the best part of the hotel, excellent service and always smilling.
We wouldnt stay here again.

Excellent staff keep what is otherwise a rather tired hotel afloat. Ostensibly lavish buffet in the main restaurant quickly becomes an exercise in finding something that actually tastes of anything. The pools are Baltic in temperature and consequently the two which have a modicum of heating are mobbed. NB the kids pool with slides is mystifyingly unheated and unsurprisingly almost always empty. Sun beds are bagged by 7.30 am - if not the night before - and you will find yourself bleary-eyed juggling sun loungers and hefting cushion covers around wondering where your five star experience went. We didn't use the gym, which may well be excellent. But just getting from reception to our room was a 10-15 minute mission of walking and climbing, so we felt we didn't need to.

We had a fabulous stay at this hotel. We wish to thank all the staff (from reception, cleaner, pool guards, waiting staff to the animation team); they were very friendly and caring at all times. The facilities and the location are very good. The only area for improvement is the quality and the variety of the food on offer.

Hotel is huge and was very busy in our Easter holidays trip so you need to be prompt to get a lounger by the pool. The animation team were great with the kids - they had a great time. The worst part is the huge buffet restaurant - the food itself is not terrible - but it is mass catering, people dodging with plates and a lot of walking to and fro and so not a relaxing experience. Room was spacious and well presented. Weather was lovely although pools still a bit cold for me even though they claim to be heated. The main thing is the girls enjoyed it and so we had a good holiday.

Great for us staff great nothing too much trouble - pools great warm water and safe
Had we been traveling on our own as a couple might not have been the same experience- there were child free/adult zones but the hotel does seems to cater for young families very well - food was excellent - best all inclusive we have been to.

Mothers treat

From our arrival, until we departed, it was pure bliss, staff are exceptional, rooms wer soo clean and comfortable, food was fantastic, Cava flowing from morning to night, adult only areas, the facilities and entertainment excellent, no need to leave the complex. Children's clubs wer fantastic even though we did not need it, but so nice to see everyone were accommodated young and old. I will definitely return.

Recent price hike might price it out of the market

Stayed here from 28th December to 11th January. This was our second stay at this hotel and it certainly didn't disappoint. We stayed as a family of 4 and our room was basically 2 suites with a shared bathroom. Absolutely loved every second of our stay. Set in a fabulous location close to the marina and a further 10 minute walk into the town centre. Food was excellent, staff were fantastic. Would have certainly booked again for this new year had the priced not quadrupled and that was for a basic room !!!

From the moment we arrived and one of the staff came out to the car to get our bags we knew we had made a good choice. All the staff were great and so were the restaurants. Only blip was losing WiFi in the room but only minor.

Good Hotel with excellent staff

Very good hotel with staff who are very or extremely helpful despite how they are at times treated.
Comfortable rooms and would recommend merlin rooms for little ones.
Food is excellent.
Nice beach but be prepared for a walk although only fifteen minutes and is better than fighting for sun beds.
Pools are good but mistake was going in half term for second week when the I am entitled crowd turned up.

A fantastic place for family holiday!

We decided to celebrate out tenth and my in law's 47th marriage anniversary at this resort. The rooms were spacious and equipped with everything we needed. The all inclusive package included everything from kids club, spa, restaurants, 5D experience and thus was really good value for money. The staff very very pleasant and very helpful. To our surprise language was not a barrier. Food was good with different varieties although if you are vegetarian with Indian taste buds then just think of eating healthy for a change! My personal rating is 5 stars for the whole experience.

This hotel is clean and the staff are exceptionally nice. However there are so many very young children it is ridiculously noisy in the dining halls. Fine if you have tiny children yourself but we don't. Food ok (avoid the oriental) and AI drinks good quality.

We have just returned from this hotel and had a great time. All the staff were very helpful and friendly and second to none. The food in the main restaurant was excellent and varied however the Italian and Chinese were poor and service slow it should have been a lot better! We would go to the hotel again if we went to lanzarotte.

A Pre Christmas Break

This is a very good family hotel but we managed to find peaceful areas for adults only. The rooms are spacious and the staff are welcoming. The hotel complex is vast but well designed with attractive trees and plants lining the paths.

We enjoy aware little escape, whether was excellent, hotel staff nice and helpful. Hotel running some refurbismend,so some of facilities are close and a bit of noise coming around ,but is a great value for money. Pleasantly surprised on arrival.Resort caters for all needs.Rooms,one of the biggest we have had as a double,separate sitting area,which came with tea/coffee facilities,seperate bath,shower and toilet spaces food acceptable,but not kept hot enough,choices the same as you would expect.Enjoyed the entertainment,again what you would expect,great walk along promenade to the marina,overall a good hotel in a good location.

Just returned from Gran Castillo will not return. Very disappointed Looks like a Five Star but in my opinion is average four star.
Building work on site, Italian restaurant closed for repairs Main restaurant food poor standard, tasteless poor quality meat. Food displayed very poorly. Plagued with flies, all over fresh salad displays and sweets and on your plate whilst eating. Child orientated hotel. small number of couples on resort. Children climbing over stage whilst acts performing. No sign of any management so staff able to be as rude as they wished to guests. Guests also pretty much behaved as they liked..

Lovely hotel but def not 5 star by Irish standards. Would give it 4 star. Staff very friendly however reception staffs uniforms very tatty looking. I realise we are on holiday and not interested in staff uniforms but it was something that we all noticed on arrival.
Food in buffet restaurant v good for breakfast lunch and dinner. Any hot food that was not being freshly prepared could have been hotter. Grilled prawns, steaks , fresh fish all on offer.
Choice of drinks in all inclusive excellent .
Lovely walk along a promenade all the way to Playa Blanca.
Will def go back.

All inclusive in Playa Blanca

We stayed for 6 nights in the beginning of November 2016 having booked as a package through Expedia. We were on an all inclusive deal (which I think everyone was on). We are a couple, early-30s with our 2.5 year old daughter.

The reception was very nice with welcome drink and a ride on the club car to our room. The hotel itself is right next to a small shopping centre which has bicycle rental and a supermarket (amongst other shops). It's a 25 min walk to rubicon marina. We went one day to the \"Playa Dorada\" beach but it's too far to walk there.

We stayed in a \"Merlin\" room which is basically a mini-suite which was an amazing children's bedroom separate from the main bedroom. The kids room has mural painted walls, a toy box, a fun little tent and even a tv with PS4. It was really great for our daughter to have her own separate bedroom and she immediately felt at home there. The room was right next to the two kid's pools, near all the children's amenities. The bathroom was large but poorly ventilated which meant it had a damp smell to it.
The room is also very far away from reception and the main restaurant, a good 10 minutes walk (at toddler pace). Wifi is free and a good speed, we managed to stream Netflix ok.

The main restaurant is ok, food selection is not bad and quality acceptable. There is a cooked to order grill which I'd recommend.
Down near our room, the smaller \"Italian\" restaurant is available for breakfast and lunch but has a much smaller selection

Quirky hotel set away from the centre

Lovely big rooms, large restaurant, good choice of food. Kids pool great but no sunbeds around it, just chairs. Great base for walking, bit cramped to sit around the pools. Staff are all amazing.

Excellent family hotel

Just returned from 10 day break with our boys (8 and 10). Room was amazing (sofa bed not that comfortable but minor gripe compared to overall experience). Kids made friends and lots for them to do - nice to give them some freedom in what we perceived to be a safe environment. We got chance to relax as a result. Went on day trip to Timanfaya National Park - highly recommended. Don't hire a car just for this trip, it's well organised for bus trips. Food at hotel good (not amazing) - always lots to choose from. Oriental restaurant really good, Italian not great. Staff fabulous and great with the kids. First trip to Lanzarote, we will go back. Playa Blance the best reaort from what we've heard and seen. Gran Castillo a great choice of hotel for families. There is an adults only part but we didn't get to try it - it wouldn't be our choice for a child free holiday if we ever get one!

Just what the doctor ordered...

Fantastic location, comfortable, clean, good food, nice drinks, comfortable sunbeds, lovely surroundings = wonderfully relaxing holiday. Wasn't too impressed with service within the Italian restaurant (or really the food to be honest) so would give a miss however really enjoyed the Chinese ....other people we spoke to felt the total opposite so give them both a try and make your own mind up. Food in main restaurant was delicious and appetising and the staff couldn't do enough to help. Didn't try the spa and unfortunately the 5D cinema wasn't operating while we were there. The entertainment programme was good and the staff seemed to work endlessly. All in all a great place to visit and if I return to Playa Blanca I will definitely be booking back in.

Lovely hotel, amenities nearby

Lovely hotel, there were lots of small children in the hotel , but plenty of areas where adults only . Food was the best plenty of choice and variety, the 2 themed restaurant you could book and go as many times as you liked. Lovely stroll into playa blanca but small shopping centre with bars etc nearby. Rooms good size lovely and clean although our room was supposed to be pool view but was ground floor and had all trees I front of it making it very dark the lights had to be on all the time . Room 1111.
