Overall a clean, friendly and calm hotel. Plenty of amenities, such as an on site spa, gym, shops, hairdressers and organised activities throughout the day. 3 pools and jacuzzis. The all inclusive was brilliant with a variety of food and drink available. The Mexican restaurant was outstanding but did require prebooking which was hard to get! The rooms were spacious and cleaned daily.

Very quiet locations

We enjoyed our stay at Sandos. The location worked well for us as it was right at the edge of Playa Blanca, and so was very quiet. There was a good range of food, however there were limited main course choices for vegetarians. Some of the food could have been warmer.

A mixed bag; we upgraded to royal elite - this gives access to additonal exclusive lounges and dedicated restaurant.
The Royal elite restaurant experience was nice, but the food did not differ ( perhaps even less choice) to the main restaurant. Room was tired and had a heavy cigarette smell, though non smoking. Aircon was noisy and ineffective affecting sleep.
What you do get with Royal elite is drinks served in the restaurant ( with I suspect a better wine) plus somewhat amazingly a serve yourself premium drinks bar in the lounges. Nice, but it did suit heavier drinkers than us. Some hefty measures were in evidence.
Getting a pool sunbed was very tricky and there is almost no greenery/ gardens to this hotel.

Hotel is a 20 minute walk from some beautiful sandy beaches. However, the hotel itself is quite dated. Most sun umbrellas did not work. The room was kept clean, but the sun terrace floors were sticky from spilt drinks and there were discarded cigarettes in corners which did not get cleaned. It felt understaffed. Buffet food was ok. The food in the Fusion restaurant was pretty good, but it was extremely difficult to get a reservation there.

I had a great stay here due to the fact that the staff was so helpful and friendly. They helped us figure out our transportation options and get around the island. Food was satisfactory (catered to European tastes). Probably better for families vs solo or couples. Enjoy!

After a problematic check in all was well. Lots of in site options, plus nearby beaches via cliff walk for those who prefer to swim in the sea. We had to hunt for our hotels.com booking and email to reception to complete the check in process. Good buffet selection for all meals. Quiet location on the outskirts of Playa Blance

A concierge service would be very useful.
The hot water in the shower was not there most of the time and showers had to be very luke warm.
There was No milk provided in the room with the coffee, tea so could not have a cup of coffee in the room in the whole of 5 day stay, Despite the cleaner coming each day she did not notice and nor did she clean the coffee tray or replenish.

Good value for money in a great location just at the edge of the beach with easy access to walking trails and papagayo beach. Features are typical of a all-inclusive resort with good sized rooms and amenities. Suggest that you chose a room in block C, if possible, since it has direct view over the sea without the noise of the pool. Food was OK, but if you are willing to spend some extra for at least one night go out for dinner (Caja Roja is great). SPA is average but well priced.

Likeable, but not for us

Its hard to rate this hotel. It has very friendly staff, lots of facilities and I'm sure can give many people a very happy holiday. We spoke to lots of folks there who were having a very good time, and many were repeat guests.

For us it just was not quite right - much bigger than we had expected. Big personal drawback was the restaurants - they were all buffet style and just did not have the atmosphere of a relaxing holiday meal.

So - modern and friendly hotel with lots of facilities and with a view of great sunsets...... but just a bit too big and not with the right atmosphere for us.

The hotel was huge with lots to do. Plenty of swimming pools, the sea views were fabulous and the location was fantastic. The staff were very helpful and well presented and the selection of food was superb. I would suggest that perhaps a tour of the hotel and the amenities upon check in would have been helpful as it took several days before you knew just how many amenities were there, especially for the Elite VIP guests. I would highly recommend this hotel and a trip to the spa is a must.

It was indicated that the airport shuttle is included but it was a lie! No shuttle so I had to take twice a taxi so I had to pay 110euro more than expected! I was really disappointed

Lovely hotel. Nice to have the different restaurants. Bit of a hike to the town centre, though we had a car so wasn't an issue. Loads of free parking for your hire car. Good location for visiting the National Park / volcano and the salt flats (c. 20 mins by car).

Excellent rooms look recently refurbished. Other parts of the resort could do with modernising and a lick of paint. Great friendly staff. Everything finishes by 00:30 except the overnight snack bar. Good choice of restaurants. I recommend the Fusion one book as soon as you arrive to make sure you get a booking. Its ever Mexican or Chinese.

Sandos is fantastic. We did All-Inclusive & the food is very very good. The only thing I would mark Sandos down on was the nighttime entertainment. We paid extra for a sea view room & speaking to another guest on our arrival, it would have been more cost efficient to book the standard room & then upgrade to the royal elite package. When we discussed this with the reception staff we felt a little fobbed off. Everything else considered it was a lovely hotel

This hotel has everything going for it...excellent

The hotel makes subtle improvements every time we return, which shows they are always looking to improve. My daughter has a peanut allergy and the staff (especially Luis) took her around the dining room before every meal to make her aware of the foods she should avoid. The food was fabulous.All the staff were excellent..We will be back again.

NOT a family friendly hotel for babies or toddlers

Terrible for babies and toddlers, and there is no beach (despite the hotel name) unless you count the expanse of rocks and mud at the rear of the hotel. There is a free shuttle bus to the nearest beach about ten minutes drive. We paid extra for a sea view which we didn't get until we were forced to move, thanks to a cracked patio window which wasn't noticed before by anyone (we were told it had to be fixed ready for the next guests so they have a comfortable stay!). There was no porter to manage our luggage or to welcome us. There is no food available between 6pm to 7:30pm which messed which our baby's routine. The meat was always overcooked and the veg was always al-dente (although plenty of variety and most of it was good). The children's pool was freezing cold and the evening kids mini disco started at 8:30pm. The music blared all night and we weren't told about the fireworks and beach bonfire directly outside our room (at midnight, two nights in a row) which really scared my baby. Finally, upon checkout, the receptionist simply took our cards - no goodbye, no questions asking if we enjoyed our stay, no comments like to have a safe journey home. Next time, we'll get a hotel nearer a beach, but this hotel is great if you just want to sit in the bar or sunbathe next to a pool. If you have a child under 3 or 4 years old, then don't bother.

Overall this hotel is excellent, the food, the cleanliness, the staff all go together to make the Sandos Papagayo a lovely place to stay. The Wi-Fi system needs to be improved as a best in the room it was temperamental to say the least. Other than that, I would certainly recommend this hotel.

Me and my family (4 adults) stayed here from April 30th till May 4th. We had an amazing all inclusive experience at the resort. I have recommended this resort to everyone since we have got back. The food was plentiful, huge selection with different restaurants, snack bar and cute drinks bar. The staff were very helpful and really enthusiastic. We enjoyed the entertainment put on each night. The hotel was clean and they are very good at maintaining. Couldn’t believe the fact it was 24 hours all inclusive so you could each 24 hours a day! The location was ideal there is a lovely beach behind the resort but it’s a rocky beach. We hiked 10minutes behind the hotel and got tubs sandy beach which was lovely and really quiet. The marina was an enjoyable 20minute walk and the markets are a must see. We will definitely be returning.

Check in 1.5 hours later than time stated. 6 trips to reception, long walk. Three for room key not working, one for pool towel cards not given on arrival, one for VIP bottle of wine not in room ready and one for safe. You have to give a desposit and get a key to use the room safe. I'd say this is a 3 star hotel. Also no water given in rooms - fridge empty. No tea or coffee in room. All in all that's not 4 star quality.

Hotel needs a revamp, a lot of maintenance issues - tiles missing at the pools, cracked floors in lifts, skirting boards hanging off. Long queues at reception and the staff were pretty useless - the mini golf is in very poor condition as are the bats for table tennis and the golf. However the kids entertainment team are great, they try very hard with what is obviously a limited budget!!

Lovely hotel with nice rooms. Only concern was staff generally not that friendly(especially at bars) and cocktails served out of bottles made off site and bought in. Found that a little disappointing and they are so sweet! Only booked for 3 days and that was about enough.

Had a lovely 2 weeks in March, large bedroom and balcony, comfy beds, spotlessly clean. Food was very good with lots to choose from and plenty of it, Lovely terraces away from the 3 large pools overlooking the sea.Bit of a walk to Playa Blanca but bus stop nearby and shuttle bus ran regularly. Love this hotel would definitely return as lots of guests told us they had.

A large hotel resort directly on the beach within 40 minutes walking distance to Playa Blanca. Quality and availability of food is very good however a little disappointed with the drinks on offer despite up grading to Royal Elite. Only common branded drinks available I.e Gin, Vodka Brandy and Whisky, would have expected greater choice. Parts of the hotel grounds are looking a little tired and in need of care and attention but this didn't spoil the enjoyment. Bedrooms are comfortable however the shower and water pressure in our particular room was poor.

When we arrived, I was a little unsure of the hotel which on first appearance looked a little dated in places. However, as the days rolled on, the hotel started to grow on me. The room we had was nice, bright and clean. When we were there, plenty of sunbeds were available with the heated pool the popular one!
Food was excellent, which something available for the plain eater and those who like something a little different.
For my wife and I, the hotel was close enough to the main resort of Playa Blanca with various bars and restaurants (approx. 40min walk or €5 in a taxi) if you fancy a change. Overall, an enjoyable week away and would have no problem recommending this hotel

Great hotel !

The location of the hotel is about 30 mins private transfer from the airport. It is situated by the sea about 15 mins pleasant walk to the Rubicon and a further 15 mins to playa Blanca harbour. The beach is not particularly nice, however, the vista, with beautiful sunsets make up for that.
The hotel it’s self is clean, modern, comfortable and provides everything one would need.
We upgraded to the RE and thought it was worth the upgrade!.. the sea view rooms were lovely - spacious, clean, with a good range of toiletries.
Having the use of your own RE restaurant for breakfast and dinner was great (it didn’t have a canteen feeling as some can). Being RE means you get top quality alcohol - self serve premium brands spirits and mixers in the RE bars. The RE wine was also very nice.
Overall, I would definitely recommend and return without hesitation.
