The room was clean, but during the winter conditions, you should have the options to at least have your room swept. Front desk staff was not very friendly. Furniture in the lobby was not anything we would sit on. The most disappointing part was the shower. The shower head did not stay up, so you had to use the hand held head, the water ran out of the bottom of the shower stall, so you had to squeegee the water back under the shower door after you had to get wet, lather and then rinse off in there different steps. The location was not bad it was less than a 10 minute walk to the city center.

Very basic hotel, location is great but staff is not friendly at all, esp the blonde lady with glasses. Bed is very hard, thin mattress on divan. Pillow is very flimsy and uncomfortable. Bathroom has a bit of smell from the pipe, soap is terrible so bring your own. Breakfast was acceptable, not the best but at least there are some toast & jam.

Hotel is in best location near to city centre.walkable to city centre.All staff is very helpful and warm welcoming.Especially Himalaya is very knowledgeable and helful

Cons..

First TV doesn't have access to many channels you need your own account. In my room some channel is not working which is a basic channel , I called the staff but no he was not able to fix it. In the shower the drainage stingy smell is coming.shower gel was almost empty that was supposed to check byhousekeeping, needs to check before guest arrival.
Breakfast is very basic everyday.Hotel suppose to add some more fruits and vegetarian options .Even inform on desk and housekeeping for daily cleaning they missed .The housekeeping department needs to be not providing great service.
This is our personal opinion because we stayed there.

The room was good, staff are excellent. Only thing is that we didn't know that breakfast was include so miss out..The hotel is only about 10 minutes walk to town, where there is shops and restaurants and bus stop. Excellent location, will diffinately stay again.

The staff at this hotel were extremely friendly from when we first dropped our bags off to when we left. our flight got cancelled out of rovaniemi and the staff were accommodating and let us store our luggage in the room and stay on the lobby whilst we waited. Would recommend to anyone coming to rovaniemi!

We stayed for 2 nights and it was suitable. The biggest fault was the unpleasant scent of the bathroom; we had to keep the door closed at all times. However, no complaints for the price point compared to other nearby accommodation. Wouldn't stay again.

The staff were helpful and the hotel is close to the airport and a shopping mall. The main reasons why I didn’t give the hotel more stars are:

There is no lift so if you are travelling with heavy luggage you might want to look elsewhere.

The room is pretty old and the bathroom is small. There is not much space between the shower curtain and the shower so it was uncomfortable. The housekeeping didn’t check the shower gel. It was empty on our visit. The toilet paper was in a holder on the wall opposite the toilet seat so only someone with very long arms can reach it.

I would not recommend the hotel. Apologies to the staff.

Really good budget hotel. Clean & everything you need. Easy walk into city centre. Was able to hire winter clothes through the hotel. Staff extremely friendly. 20euros for laundry. Breakfast range was good - cereal and hot food options. Dinner was amazing - 3 different hot meals, plus salad bar and soup options. Tea and coffee included. Only negative was the rooms were so so so cold.

Staff was not available. During the check-in, we only got our key room, no maps, recomendations, indications, nothing. The omelette had bolied eggs (presumably leftovers) and the food selection was poor. Very small room, shower and maintenance needed.
The only good thing is location. Walking distance from the city centre, shoping mall and restaurants.

I was supposed to stay in Rovaniemi for one night and next morning fly out to Helsinki. My flight got canceled and my only option was to take an overnight train from Rov to Helsinki. I tried to explain my situation to the front desk staff and she was completely unhelpful. That same rude woman also checked in my friend and he had asked if he could do early check in (not an uncommon thing to ask if hotels can accommodate when rooms are available). Her response was, \"Did you read the booking information?\" Also asked if he could leave his bags until check in (another common request) and she was short about that and said he could do what he wants with the bags. My only negative experience my whole week trip in Norway/Finland was this hotel.

Bathroom very small and wet. Bifold door jammed took ages to close shower. Triangular shower too small for a 6.4 man. Kettle was rusty and had mould inside, had to get a replacement. Fridge wasn't working and Tv was not connected properly. Corridor had very old carpet. Food wasn't great. Bread was great cuz it was not baked by them and rest was just very ordinary for a $4000 4 night. All the reviews was good so I booked here but it turns out shocking how people did not complain about the price vs quality. Sauna was good though. Not posh but very effective.

We arrived before 8am. Not only were we able to leave our luggages before check in, Greta offered to give us towels and let us use the spa area to shower and freshen up before our tours. Though we didn’t need to do so, the extent the staff went to make sure we’re comfortable and well settled before we even check in is such a nice gesture. The breakfast provided is good and the room is comfortable.

The hotel is close to the city center and a very convenient mall and restaurants. Great location. Only 9 minutes walking if there is not ice. Lordi Square, Nili restaurant, Pure burger and more all by walking distance even the bus to Santa Calus Village and airport. At the mall there is a Article Park office where you can be able to book the aurora tour and more. Also a supermarket.
The breakfast is good many options. Sauna available only two hours based in a schedule. A little expensive but is close to de city. I booked two weeks before and l stayed four nights.

Lovely central hotel to explore Rovanemi

We had a wonderful time staying at the hotel it was in the perfect place very close to town. Breakfast and dinner were very tasty only complaint we had was buffet prices were changed half way through our stay and we weren’t told in advance only when we went to pay. Reception staff were very knowledgeable and went the extra mile finding a sledge for my daughter to enjoy the snow. Sauna was lovely, clean only thing to say is watch your head in the sauna as the ceiling is quite low

Like other reviews have said, the rooms are tiny and theres no stairs - but the clerk carried my luggage up and I wasnt spending much time in the room anyway. Within easy walking distance of town, staff were exceptional and went above and beyond to help. The guy who checked me in was incredible, 10/10. I thought it was cozy despite being outdated. Its servicable and warm, but nothing luxurious. Id stay there again in a heartbeat.

If you're looking for luxurious accommodations, I'd pass. It's a little rustic. Almost spartan. But it was clean, quiet, comfortable, very friendly staff, and great breakfast buffet! Highly recommend if you're looking for a good deal and a good meal.

Such a wonderful stay at this hotel. Is was a little nervous initially to book but I'm so glad we stayed here. It's a small hotel and a little bit further out than others but it's a completely short walkable distance to the town center and bus stop to the Santa village. There's plenty of food for breakfast and the choice to pay extra for evening meals. Staff are so wonderful and the hotel and area was so quiet when we stayed in March which we loved. Although the hotel was pretty full with guests it's probably the quietest we have stayed and it was delightful. The hotel itself is a little older but I would definitely stay here again if we were ever back in the area, such great value.

Great Location 4- 5 minutes walk to shops, restaurants and town square.
Clean Comfortable rooms and bathroom , Older style but efficient with all amenities.
Good Breakfast but be sure to go early because when they run out they do not refill. Disappointed child at 9.30 to find no bacon available.
Reception Ladies were friendly and willing to offer assistance from finding Ice rink, restaurants or booking Taxi's.

We went during Christmas season and understandably the price was on the high side. But this is really just a 3 star hotel with minimal facilities. Not even a pair of bathroom slippers was provided and the the toilet was rather cramped. The reception was helpful and nice though.

First of all the lady gave us an early check in which was very nice of her.The spar was great and very hot.The rooms can do with some tender loving care new globes so the lights will work.
No room cleaning which is just fine for us Breakfast ok while a little limited.
The receptionist was very nice and the most friendly we encounted in the 3 months of travelling.

The lady at the front desk was very friendly and check in was very smooth. The room was very clean and organized. It was very hot in the room in the middle of the night and there was no air conditioning. We had to open the window and the road noise was a little loud.
Other than that is was a pleasant stay.

The hotel was great for two nights. We stayed here to take a tour/trip to see the Northern lights. There are restaurants and shops walking distance from the hotel as well as bus stops. The breakfast was a buffet that included variety of juices, cold meat, bread, yogurt, fruits, waffles, coffee and tea, pastries, eggs, potatoes, and hot meat. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Best way to get to from and to the hotel from and to the airport is using local taxis.

It was nice to staying at Hotel Aakenus, the staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast is always impressive and surprising everyday, especially the waffle maker , it is fun and interesting to have my own waffle every morning. Overall this is a nice hotel, my room is cosy and bright however there the housekeeping has rooms of improvement , for example the bed making is too rough and even one day my bed is not being rearranged or even the pillow is on the floor. The faucet is not clean, one cup was missing one day... etc, the housekeeping is not done carefully or detailed. I will still recommend to my friend since I really enjoy my 6 days at Hotel Aakenus.

On arrival the room was set for a couple, we had to separate the beds ourselves, not something you want to do after 11 hours of travelling and the staff member told us to separate them ourselves. The room was freezing. I was not happy with this. However the breakfast was exceptional.

One of the minus points is the distance bergen the hotel and the railway station. Tough in walking during winter carrying heavy luggages.

Overall a great hotel for a good budget! The best part was that it was centrally locates, about a 10 minute walk to the very center and the Santa village bus stop. The room was good and comfy- the only downside is the shower leaked all over the floor because the door didn’t shut all the way. It was also a bit of a pain being on the first floor- there’s a good amount of traffic outside and if we were to open the window everyone would see right in. The breakfast was really good. I loved the potato meat dishes, the cakes, and the waffle maker. I only wish they kept their coffee hotter and didn’t water down their juice. The staff was very friendly. Also for the kids, it was very cool they had a play area at breakfast and sleds they could take. I would stay again!

Had a great time visiting Rovaniemi. The Pilke, Arktikum and Kurundi.. just brilliant. Loved visiting the library, friendly staff, they hold rare books on Finland in several languages including English and support a local artist exhibition.. The motel was in walking distance of central Rovaniemi
