The property and the location is good. But what they don't mention is that some of the chalets are very far from the reception and you have to cross a main street, and if you don't have the car there is no help or trolley to drag the suitcases across. The receptionists are very unhelpful and apathetic. They blocked the room access card even before our check out time and and again to reactivate, though it is their fault, you need to walk all the way to the reception to reactivate it!

We had an excellent stay at Lapland Hotels Ounasvaara Chalets and everything exceeded our expectations. The staff kindly allowed us an early check-in at 12:30 PM, which was greatly appreciated and set a very positive tone for our stay. The overall environment and ambiance were outstanding—peaceful, well-designed, and perfectly aligned with the Lapland experience.

The room quality was excellent, very clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. We were especially impressed by the thoughtful details for families; providing sleds for children was a wonderful touch and made our stay even more enjoyable.

As a very minor suggestion for improvement: we stayed in Room 21, and in the sauna, there seemed to be some heat loss from the lower section, so the temperature was not as warm as expected. This is a small detail and did not affect our overall satisfaction.

Overall, everything was perfect, and we would definitely choose to stay here again on our next visit. Highly recommended.

Chalet was cute, bit dated but clean. We were nervous with the children (8&5) staying in the top room as the gate didn’t feel too secure when they lent on it.
We could also hear next door up early. We only stayed one night so wasn’t too bad but if we had been there longer it would have probably been frustrating as it was very early.
Restaurant was lovely, we paid to have the evening buffet and menu, breakfast was included in our stay which was also lovely with plenty of choice.
Overall a good stay.

Chalets are lovely. Beautiful location and very central. Reception and staff were excellent, there was nothing they couldn’t help us with. My daughter has certain food allergies, we ate 3nights in a row and the chef and waitresses were incredibly helpful to accommodate her. Food all round was really lovely especially the salmon soup. One thing to note, but wouldn’t detract us from staying again is that the Stairs is a bit steep to 2nd bedroom. We had 3year old and 7 year old. They have a gate at the top of stairs but may also be handy to have one at the bottom as well.

Por el precio que tienen deberían tener un mejor servicio, tuve que llevar mi equipaje por mis propios medios a 500 metros del lobby pues no tienen un transporte entre el lobby y las cabañas estaba nevando fue bien difícil llegar con el equipaje al lugar y sin ayuda
para el desayuno que recorrer ese mismo tramo, si tienes algún inconveniente en la noche no hay nadie que pueda ayudarte, mi llave se desprogramó y no pude acceder a la cabaña, pues no hay en el lobby nadie estaba cerrado.

We had a wonderful stay there between Christmas and New Year’s. Awesome winter weather. Our cabin was super rustic but very nice. The sleeping was okay: we went as couple but two beds pushed together. We cooked our own food for dinner. Really great winter adventure. I’d love to go back there sometime.

Room was filthy! For more than $1,100 a night you would expect at least a clean room! The room looks nothing like the pictures on the website! We found dirty Q-tips in between the sofa cushions and a receipt! The Tv is covered in dust, so are the plugs. The bed sheet were dirty so we had to switch them. Shocked by how overpriced this room was! Check-in was also extremely slow!

Amazing river side chalet. Everything clean and had a dishwasher which had cleaning tablets provided. Small but functional kitchen. Steps outside can be slippery when icy. Very warm and cosy beds. Internet was good and could plug in a fire stick. Breakfast was excellent, so many choices. Excellent friendly staff. 20 minutes walk over the bridge to the shops. Would definitely stay again.

My Mom and i stayed in one of the Junior chalets and we loved it. They are kept neat and stocked with things needed for cooking. The food at both breakfast and dinner was delicious. But most important all the staff where helpful even going out of their way to help us even before my Mom was hurt. She hurt herself half way through our trip and anything we needed and more they helped.

This has potential to be a 5 star property and they advertise as a luxury property, but it's really bare bones. Amenities such as soap poor (one dispenser in bathroom for sink and one for shower but not good quality), the kitchen scantily stocked. But quiet and clean and a 10 minute Uber to the Santa Claus Village or Rovaniemi. We arrived late and had to walk in the dark down an icy path to our accommodation - a ride would have been nice. Breakfast was OK, staff a little grumpy. Best part was the on site Sauna - worth every penny and there is a food truck parked right next to it. Would probably stay again were I to go to the area, as the choices not great for Rovaniemi (and not much in the town to offer).

Didn't realize that the cabin was so far away from the main lodge and would have to cross a street for breakfast buffet. The room was ok, the stairs leading upstairs were more like a ladder, use caution booking if someone has mobility issues. The sauna in the bathroom was very nice.

These chalets are beautiful and the fit so many people. We had a group of 10 split across 2 Superior Chalets for just one night and I wish we could have stayed longer! The included breakfast buffet was excellent. They let us store our bags after checkout while we went out on a tour. Plus we were able to leave our cars parked there while on the tour. All at no extra charge. Lovely place.

Horrible horrible horrible. It started with severe late check in because they didnt have our chalet ready, then they gave us the smallets chalet, not the actual one we paid for. The rooms are ice cold, i called reception more than 5 times noone seems to care its 2 in the morning, we are waiting on our taxi to go to a different hotel this is insane. Full refund expecting, horrible staff and experience

Beyond brilliant!

Wow, what a lovely stay we had here. Staff were the friendliest we’ve ever known and check in was quick and easy. Chalet was exactly as pictured and we appreciated the warmth when we got in! Sauna was a great bonus. Breakfast was exceptional, so much amazing choice and new things to try- compliments to whoever makes the morning blackcurrant mousse, my kids loved it. We also ate there for dinner and can honestly say that the food was cooked to absolute perfection- we travel fairly regularly and the bar has now been set high- the reindeer we had for dinner was incredible. Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant and our kids loved the selection of games to play at the table too.
Would love to return and will recommend to everyone. We also got to see the northern lights across the lake/river on our last night so it just made our trip magical.

Great stay! Everyone was so friendly, the chalets are cute, it’s all by the river so you can play in the water, good breakfast…. Nice and quiet in the summer, great time to go if you dislike crowds. You can rent fat bikes and SUP boards (for an extra cost), but kayaks and other types of bikes would have been nice too. But overall: well done, keep it up!

So the place is pretty nice, we had a chalet for 6 person with sauna which are in a cute little red house. However, the room was noisy as we heard the road, the beds upstairs were noisy and not that comfortable, the shower was hard to use. The sauna was good. There was a lot of people at breakfast, but the breakfast itself was good. The bathroom needs a makeover.

This might be a fantastic place to stay for skiing but it was a little disappointing in summer. The staff and breakfast were lovely, but our cottage was rather shabby, cramped, and badly situated far from the water and close to a loud, busy road. It was nice to have a kitchen since the restaurant has a pretty limited menu and seating area.

Lovely wooden chalets near a lake and ski slope, but no sledging at all allowed and we’re no skiers, so that ruined the holiday for our family. The buffet breakfast they put on is epic. You can make your own pancakes, there’s eggs & bacon, breads, cheeses, meats, cereals, really nice coffee and gluten free options too. Gorgeous dining room and we are in the “restaurant” a few times. It’s only a bar menu, so burger and chips or a toastie but the burgers were really nice. Beer is expensive, €9 odd for a pint!

Staying in the Superior Chalet and while it was at the back of the plot close to the road, there was very little traffic noise. The only noise came from the attached chalet so the claim of soundproofing is not accurate. Comfy beds, comfy living space, good location for walking and skiing. Good breakfast, lot's of choice, get's quite busy later on. Staff were really helpful and friendly. Highly recommend for couples or families.

Nice stay - more COVID precautions needed

Stayed in a Standard Chalet with Sauna for 5 nights and had a great stay. Staff were friendly and location was ideal for skiing. The chalet was clean and staff were serious about COVID prevention. Breakfast was served buffet style, which is potentially dangerous with COVID, but there was lots of hand sanitizer. Only some guests wore masks when dishing up food at breakfast, which made us anxious. Mask-wearing should be enforced at the buffet and in the common areas.

Highly recommend for families and anyone looking to enjoy a quiet time in Rovaniemi. If staying at the chalets, I would recommend having a car, as the nearest grocery store is 20 minutes away on foot.

this is a ski resort and accomodations are traditional wooden chalet style dotted around the resort. very clean with some modern facilities, we staued in junior suite and it was by the frozen river and was very roomy and clean with beautiful scenes just outside the rear doors. sauna was massive and had 3 showers! mind you the floors and walls might create some weird knocking noises all night if you get the heating setting up too high.

breakfast was a plenty with lots of choices but staff had no smiles on face and did not talk much. during busy times they just kept taking away old plates etc but did not refill any empty food trays or breads, and when I asked if there were anymore hot milk for coffee was told just to use cold milk insted.

ski resort was very good and family friendly. staff was great and booking ski rentals etc was a pleasant experiences. would recommend.

Overall it’s a nice chalet. Comfortable for 5 of us.

It would have been better if there’s more hooks around for us to hang towels and clothes.

We also asked and paid for additional daily cleaning but surprised to see that the sink and dishes were not cleaned and used cups and mugs were still on the living room table when we came back. It’s all a bit confusing on what’s really included in daily cleaning. In the end they waived part of the additional cleaning fee.

Great location, 15 minutes drive from the airport and about 5-10 minutes from the main city. Right at the bottom of the Ounasvaara ski slope. Rooms are cosy and comfortable and wi-fi signal very good. Kitchen area in cabins is very small with no draining board area. Could do with some additional coat hooks inside the front door but plenty of storage space. Stairs are very steep to the upstairs room but do have a stair gate if you were worried. Staff polite and helpful and breakfast had a very good selection. Dinner options are somewhat limited on the a la carte menu and buffet but food is good. Not much for vegetarians other than the obligatory vegie burger. Godd value overall and a lovely place to stay. 20 minute walk to nearby supermarket too.

The chalet is very clean and cute design. Feel like a proper holiday home with the design. However, it feels very compact and small for 6 guests. 4 bed cramp in one small bedroom leaving hardly any space to move around. Kitchen is not very equipped even though it was advertised as well equipped. Kettle wasn’t working.

But the staff is very friendly and the overall experience is good.

Great reception on arrival , Chalets were really clean and in a very nice setting near a ski slope.They are not soundproofed as mentioned in the write up, one reason why we booked nor are they in a quiet area,not much to do if you don’t ski .taxi 15 euro each way To Rovaniemi. Breakfast was Very good, great choice and nice staff. dinner is 35 euro per person.We ate in our chalet as we felt that 105 euro was expensive for evening meal . There is a nice cheap cafe at the ski area for a cheap lunch.We were unfortunate to have really noisey neighbors who liked to shout,play loud music , swear , slam doors, Partying,make as much noise as possible.this really spoilt our holiday, especially with a young child with us . I understand that the hotel can not control who they have staying , but the way they handled it was shocking, telling us we had to call the police and they couldn’t do anything. We were on holiday in there accommodation yet they couldn’t help us,we found this strange and we were thankful when we left and nothing got out of control, being in a foreign country and not speaking the language worries you . I would not recommend this place,for that reason you want to feel safe and we didn’t, my granddaughter was frightened, we also spoke to reception and they also showed no care factor.There is no offer of help for luggage either,No tea or coffee, or small touches like you get with most hotels. Stay at Santa Claus village it’s awesome, and has special touches secure feeling

Very nice, pleasant facility. Staff was very friendly and helpful; they bend over backward to help you. Facility is out of town and fairly distant from local restaurants which wouldn’t be a problem if facility’s restaurant was open for all guests. Perhaps most guests have a car which we did not. Dinner is for groups only, at least when we were there.

We arrived just after 10am & were able to check in early, which was great. There were three of us (one couple & one other adult). The layout for our 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom chalet was a little odd in that to get to the second bathroom we had to walk through the first one, but there was a door that went outside from the second bathroom so we just used that if the other bathroom was being used.
We were in chalet 74, right on the river & our own sauna.
The resort restaurant & large wood sauna is about 40 mts away.
The views from our two decks were just fantastic. The first night we cooked reindeer burgers on the bbq, & the next two nights bought dinner from the restaurant & eat it on our deck. The food was great & obv popular with locals.
There weren’t too many foreigners there, but it was really busy. We did enjoy seeing how Finns holiday.
We had taken LOTS of insect repellent, & did put it on, but were pleasantly surprised at the lack of sand flies & mosquitoes.
It would be amazing to see it in winter.

A Perfect Weekend

An amazing hotel, so happy that I booked to stay here. I read reviews where some commented that they saw the Northern Lights from the chalet - and we did, overlooking the lake next our chalet. An amazingly comfortable and clean superior chalet, 11 - 15 mins from Rovaniemi Airport and Santa Village, Arktikum museum. Beautiful to be next to the ski slope, a wonderful breakfast and kind, friendly and helpful staff! We hope to come back!

All we hoped for & more

The Chalet Hotel was a fantastic place to spend our first winter holiday. The price was very good and we had our first skiing experience at the Ski resort just behind our hotel. The rooms are very clean and cosy with a comfy sofa and bed. It was nice to see a Christmas tree from our window which was lit up. We did plenty of Activities through Lapland safaris which were amazing but also ideal as they picked us up from the hotel reception. We had a magical holiday.

Do not purchase the the Safaris and Activities

WARNING: Do not use the 'Santa Claus Visit in the Cottage' as advertised in the Hotels Safari & Activities brochure. Absolute waste of money and cannot even get the Manager to respond to emails

You can have a perfectly good meeting with Santa at the Santa Park or Santa Village locally. We opted for the onsite visit as assumed it would be a better option for the children.

This cost us €228 which worked out at €16 per minute as he was only there 14 minutes. There was no research on the children so this character knew as much as the character in Santa park that is included in the entry price. For the money it cost I expected a personalised service where he could interact with the children at a minimum and something that would be a real memory to cherish

On plus side the cabin accommodation was really good as was the location - although the evening meals were terrible.

Overall the Hotel is worth visiting but I certainly would advise against the Santa Visit and would also make me sceptical about the other tours they organise - there are plenty of other companies offering trips that will offer a better customer service

The location of this hotel is not convenience. It takes around 30 minutes walk to the city center & there are no public transport, restaurants & convience stores nearby. There is insufficient staff in side the hotel. And no daily cleaning service is provided.

Unexpectedly poor hotel service

We have had a terrible time during our two nights of stay at the Chalet Hotel in December. We checked in at around 2pm and immediately noticed that all the lights in the sitting room are broken. The sitting room was so dim that we cannot even do a proper cooking or read a book. It took a couple of hours before the hotel technician came and looked into this. He couldn't fix it and said he would come back the day after, but nothing happened the next day and we were not updated of any progress. We then tried to call the reception for almost an hour but the line was perpetually dead. We have had no choice but to get to the reception in person to check on the status, which is another 5-minute walk under a freezing minus 10 degree celsus. Reception finally told us that they could not fix the lights. We were extremely unhappy about this, not just because the hotel cannot fix the lights, but also because they made zero effort to remedy the problem or even to let us know the status. We have asked on the spot for at least extra lamps if not a room change, but they refused to action on any of these. So we were stuck with a house with extremely poor lighting for two nights, and bore with the very dissapointingly apethetic attitude of the hotel staffs, despite paying fairly expensive price for the stay. We will definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone. We will also be making an official complaint to the hotel.

Good location but bad food

The cabin/chalet are very nice and well located... A bit of the beaten track! We had a nice walk to Santa Claus village and enjoyed the colors of Lapland. Unfortunately food at the hotel is awful... If you want to avoid the buffet for dinner and go downtown...

A wonderful hotel but let down by the reservation

On our arrival we was told the hotel was overbooked and we had been moved to another hotel which was not the standard we paid for. The hotel did pay for our taxis and gave us a refund for that night.

After the chaotic start the hotel was lovely, romantic and the tours we very well arranged.

However be warned, many other hotel guests experienced similar checking in facilities with many rooms not being available or on time.

Cute cabins a short cab ride from town

Cute and cosy two storey wooden cabins which were very new and clean. Very comfortable stay and a short walk up the the main building where we were always greeted by friendly staff and enjoyed breakfast each morning and some dinners. Would definitely stay here again!

Lovely Chalet to see Rovaniemi

The staff was very helpful. Down to the taxi driver who returned the mittens I forgot to the front desk at the hotel who got them back to me! The room was lovely and all the instructions for the sauna and the kitchen appliances were clearly labeled. The room was very clean and nicely decorated. The facilities in the main building were very nice as well. The area surrounding the chalets was very picturesque. Pretty close to everything and the front desk was always helpful in getting you where you needed/ wanted to go.

Would recommend 100%

Rooms provided are in separate chalet to main building giving a very private feel. Rooms are very well equipped with cooking facilities, fridge and private sauna. Main town of Rovaniemi is 3.5Km walk away (around 40 mins) but with very good pavement the whole way. Don't expect a frequent bus services (only 2 buses a day) so more convenient location with your own car. Taxi is €15/20 euros to town centre. Small supermarket open daily till late (even Sunday) next door. Great location for skiing and hiking just behind hotel. Good buffet breakfast provided too.

Easy and affordable cab ride from Rovaniemi airport and check in was easy. Beautiful cabins with plenty of space and a well-equipped kitchenette. Extra beds upstairs on top of what is advertised and the private sauna is great. All hotel staff went above and beyond, especially in the lobby where every little detail was attended to. Food and drinks from the lobby bar and restaurant were incredible- worth ten times the price. Close to Santa's Village and lots of hotel pickups are available for various activities, but in winter I didn't think it was possible to go out on foot and explore, no shopping etc which is fine if you're there for skiing or a winter safari. Overall amazing experience.

Family Visit to the Arctic - Intermediate Level

For our first trip to Rovaniemi, we decided to stay in an apart-hotel instead of the usual hotel. In Rovaniemi, you can choose from downtown, near Santa, or by Ounasvaara and it skiing. We went for Ounasvaaran Pirtit, which is between downtown and Santa.

We don't ski, but the property is right next to it and it was fun to watch the activity while we built snowmen and sledded. It was a short drive to restaurants and museums downtown and Santa in the other direction. The property is right on one of the rivers that runs through Rovaniemi so it is probably just as great in summer.

The rooms were cozy and clean. The beds were functional but not luxurious. We cooked one night there and it really made the trip; something we celebrate when we don't go with a hotel. The staff was very nice, especially when I made a serious booking error (my fault). The food is traditional European, better than traditional American, nothing fancy. However, one night they served Lappish dinner: pork in steak sauce, roasted root veggies, something like a carrot casserole. It still makes me hungry when I think about it.

Over all, you need a car if you stay here. It does not give you the convenience of downtown or the dark beauty of the forest, but it puts you close to them and you get a lot more of the Finnish experience here. I recommend it for American travelers who like authentic over easy, and especially for family bonding - it brought mine closer together, for sure.

Nicely located, but dirty room

The highlight is nice location of the hotel in quiet neighborhood. But it seemed that cleaning lady was on holidays for a long time as cottage was pretty dirty with lots of dust on the floor next to the beds and sticky tables. If the hotel maintenance and cleanliness would increase I could come for a longer stay as cottages are really pretty.

Poor customer service.

People are working there not helpful at all. I was disappointed by their staff. My lodge was very far from the main office. No one helped me luggage and showed me the direction etc. I had to find my lodge by myself. It took so long time in the cold weather. They should have showed me could be much easier. I also asked them how to use some facilities, but they were not interested helping. Their facilities are very poor as well. They have ONLY body shampoo. I stayed 3 nights, but they did not cleaning or changing bed sheet. They did not give me any extra towels for 3 nights. The place was new, but they did not clean the carpet other than that it was very clean. It was very far away from the city. If I will go to Lapland again I will use different place.
