This hotel and its staff deserve nothing less than a 10/10! The location of this hotel is what sets it apart from most - perfectly situated on the beachfront with the whitest sand and clearest water I have ever seen. The A La Carte dining throughout the day has an exceptional amount of choice and all taste healthy, fresh, and amazing, all whilst being locally sourced. Staff in the hotel could not be more helpful and attentive, especially when dining. Shout out in particular to Med, Rishi and Kenny who made our stay very welcoming. Overall, it is an incredibly good value for money stay for what you get in the hotel and on the doorstep.

Things to improve:
- Restaurant definitely needs some sort of air conditioning for during the day as it gets very warm and uncomfortable the further inside you are. The sea breeze helps when sat closer to the outside.
- Not much else

Absolutely fabulous! The hotel, staff, service, spa, food, and the beach were amazing. The bath products, coffee, tea and snacks were great. Sunscreen was provided, Water stations and the beach service were appreciated. We chose the full board. Food selection, fresh ingredients. My husband utilized the daily snorkeling trips. This hotel has the best location on the beach.

This is an exceptional hotel with a very pleasant atmosphere (vibe if we have to use that word). Much more peaceful than other hotels in this area with high quality cuisine deserving of greater recognition. Stunning location, friendly staff and plenty to do if you want to do anything at all. It is apparent to us that a great deal of thought has gone into how guests are looked after and that has worked.

I was not inconvenienced by booking 2 separate reservations and I did not need to move.

I am VIP at Expedia.
So one reservation, I didn’t get a room upgrade.
One reservation, I did get a room upgrade.

Best of all worlds would have been to
Received all room upgrades plus
No need to move from the best room.

So that would have meant a 2 step upgrade on the second reservation.

Also, it was not highlighted that I would receive a 20% discount on spa services. All staff should have known this and should have promoted this saving. Would have been good for the resort and good for me.

Most attentive staff Rachit whom I watched cleared tables and dishes every time he walked by any table versus others that did the one thing they were on route to do.

Love all inclusive when it’s a la carte and not a buffet. Even better when there is Michelin chef training experience.

Favourite lunch dish was pineapple gazpacho. Favourite dinner dish was Josper oven toasted corn ribs.

When you book events through the hotel, it cost more than if you booked directly with the tour operators. How much more appreciative would the guests be if all the tours were cheaper if the hotel did the booking. Then staying at this hotel would be even more attractive.

Love the guy cleaning our glasses every day on the beach.

Had the stay not been for our honeymoon, we would have found the hotel excellent. Room was lovely and the staff were all friendly. Food quality was excellent too. Be sure to do the snorkelling if you stay.

Regrettably though, many of the advertised honeymoon benefits were not offered or received. We did get the ‘Aperol sunset’ drinks but had to ask to receive this. We also had an issue with an experience we booked in that they had not checked it could actually go ahead before taking payment. On the day we thought it was happening it was cancelled which meant we had to re plan our day. Had to remind regarding the refund of this on check out.

Perfect location for a relaxed holiday by the Indian ocean.

This boutique hotel is small but beautifully appointed, with great facilities. The Bang On The Beach room offered incredible views across the bay out to the reefs. We were lulled to sleep every night by the waves and woken up every morning by the sunrise over the sea. Perfection. And that easterly sea breeze meant no mosquitos too, which is very welcome for a tropical location!

The food and service were all impeccable. Special mention to Heeroo who was very attentive and looked after us every day with exemplary service on the beach or by the pool.

Tek Tek was fantastic, Dev and Ravi put on a great night with exceptional food. Although we were on the All Inclusive package we were glad we spent a little extra for that, well worth the price (which is very reasonable coming from the UK/Europe).

Overall the food was fantastic. Lots of options to choose from on the All Inclusive package and plenty of others if you fancy splashing out a bit more. We were lucky to be there for Salt's 7th anniversary and were treated to a unique special menu.

We'll definitely be back to Mauritius and will almost certainly stay at Salt of Palmar again.

One thing to keep in mind is that the location is quite remote — it’s not walkable to any nearby attractions or shops, so transportation is necessary to get around.

I couldn’t fault the Salt of Palmar Hotel. Staff were so friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent quality and cooked to order. I would recommend the all inclusive option as not so many other options nearby. Very good coffee also.
The location is on the East coast, so a bit windier. We took a few snorkelling trips on the hotel’s boat, which was amazing.
We stayed 2 weeks and took some days out to tour the island, lots of trips/tours available.
The room looked directly out onto the Ocean with waves breaking on the reef.
Quiet surroundings and very safe environment. Would 100 % recommend

The Salt of Palmer can be a decent hotel with a few changes. The overall feeling is warm and inviting. The biggest areas of improvement include the attentiveness of staff, the smell of the rooms, and the dining options. The staff will not attend to you unless you specifically ask them. An example would be sitting in the dining area for 30 minutes as they all walk past and do not ask to take your order. If you are sensitive to smells, you must know that the rooms smell like mildew. Given that the hotel is on the beach, I expected there to be some sort of smell, but the smell was a bit overwhelming for me. The menu is rather limited and for certain hours of the day (2 pm-7 pm) you are only able to order from approximately three appetizers.

We travelled from Australia and stayed at this beautiful hotel in Mauritius, let me tell you hands down this is one of the best hotels I have been to with breathtaking sea views, private beach, beautifully unique designed hotel and best five star in class service.

From the moment we arrived we were welcomed with a friendly smile. All the staff were very helpful and the food was absolutely delicious. Thank you to the reception staff and management for helping us plan our days accordingly to what we liked.

Thank you to security at the front of the hotel for your exceptional service and friendly smiles each day.

Thank you to the hotel staff for ensuring our room was clean and tidy to perfection each day.

There is one highlight that we will never forget which is the dine in at the Tek Tek restaurant with our own private chef. The six course menu was inspired by the islands rich culture and let me tell you the food was on another level with the combination of flavours the dishes were perfection. Each dish was made with love from the Chef. Thank you Chef Shiva and Helper Karan for the most wonderful night and dine in experience you both made our experience staying at Mauritius incredible. We hope to see you both again soon.

If you would like a luxurious stay I definitely recommend staying at this hotel. 🙂

Exceptional all-adults boutique hotel located perfectly on the quiet, relaxing East coast of beautiful Mauritius island. I had the pleasure of enjoying 5 nights in the “Best on Beach” room category complete with outdoor terrace with sun bed and a separate balcony overlooking the majestic Indian Ocean.

As a vegan, the chefs and culinary team curated delicious vegan meals that far exceeded my expectations. Every meal was flavorful, unique, healthy, and prepared with fresh, quality locally sourced ingredients. There is a garden on-site where many of the ingredients come from to create the amazing meals.

The staff here is simply wonderful. Shout out to Disha, Vinesh, Rajiv, Devin, Naresh, Shib, Navin, Mayur, Rajritik, Hanshi, Krishna, Raju, Kenny, Sarah, and Isabelle. Their genuine warmth, hospitality, and kindness made my solo getaway a very special and memorable experience to cherish for a lifetime.

Stunning hotel. Food was disappointing.

This hotel is stunning. You can see for yourself from the pictures. The colours are bright and bold, the staff are friendly and attentive, and the attention to detail is unlike any other.
The boat house (which is part of the hotel) offers free pedalo, kayak and glass boat rides. I’m also sure I saw bicycles outside the front which I imagine are free to use for hotel guests. There are other goings on for guests to join in on too, you just need to look at the billboard near the entrance to find something you might like.
The hotel also offers free water refill which I think is a big plus.
Where this loses a star for me is the food. The food was one of the big reasons we chose to stay here. I expected so much more than what I got - one because the reviews raved about it, and two because it comes at a pretty high price! The açai bowl and savoury crumpet we ordered at breakfast were small portioned and bland. Lunch the day before was no different. The only redeeming dish was the chicken curry at dinner.
Regardless, we did enjoy our stay here.

Very beautiful and stylish hotel, every detail well thought, clean rooms and all hotel areas well maintained. Lovely snorkelling near by, and best breakfast on the island indeed!

Unfortunately we have experienced some building noises right next to the pool (they were building another restaurant during open hours?) which really disturbed our time near the pool, as well as the halls were painted at the same time limiting access to the rooms. Staff in the restaurant could benefit with some extra training and self care. Several times bodily odour could be smelled from staff at the restaurant, also orders/requests have been forgotten or wrong items brought upon ordering (eg i’ve been brought black tea twice in a row, even though I ordered herbal as can’t take caffeinated drinks).

Overall we really enjoyed our stay, but sadly, inconvenient times for the building improvements and undertrained staff did not fully created a 5 star hotel experience for us.

The hotel is lovely with a great view of a beautiful beach and lots of nice little touches like water stations with cups so no single use plastics. Also the food is good and never a buffet. The spa is good too for a resort of this size - Sarah was amazing. Rooftop bar and a decent gym are all really nice (though I wish the roof was open during the day).

Things that need fixing - the rooms weren't always really well cleaned. And the beds on the beach have seen better days. Both quite minor annoyances.

The biggest issue I had was that no one addressed the rampant and annoying bad behaviour of 1. People reserving beach beds that they weren't actually using and 2. The number of people listening to tik tok on phones without using headphones.

First 5* hotel I have stayed in in mauritius with a preauthorisation charge. 6000 rupees upon checkin.
Room poorly cleaned, touch points not clean and were greasy on the first night, shower drained slowly, no sauna/steam only a “salt room” which is chargeable
Very cramped room and communal spaces.
Old, probably used gym equipment.
No turndown.
Extortionate prices - making up for low room prices.
No indication on menu as to how ordering works on different board basis. I had to ask.
25 minute wait to order food on first night. Asked twice - came second time I asked.
Asked for late checkout. Told to check in the morning. Receive call to the room 2 hours later asking what time I am leaving tomorrow.
Room cleaners spray chemicals all over the floor which left marks on my expensive slippers.
Dinner menu is odd. No starter, main course. Small/medium/large - so food portions are rather large.
Food however was delicious.
No snacks in room.
Day of checkout received a call 10 minutes before 11AM asking if I need help to checkout. Was already told I could checkout late the previous night by one of the managers.
Akshaye - condescending when showing me that he was cancelling the preauthorisation. Spoke very abruptly when I was querying invoice items.
Price reflects quality; this is most certainly not a 5* hotel and the rating is misleading.

Property was great, spacious and clean rooms. Ocean location, gated with security, very friendly and responsive staff and several small amenities that was a great addition. There was nothing to complain about the resort itself and would highly recommend. The only negatives were that they refused to upgrade me given that I am a gold member and this was a VIP hotel. I was told that I was upgraded given that our room was facing the parking lot. THEY LIED TO ME. The hotel sent me an email to upgrade to ocean view for a fee, of course.
I had the full board package and on the day of check out I asked if we could have lunch since our flight was at 9:30 pm. They asked if I had lunch when we checked in to which I said yes. I was told that I had to pay for lunch on check out day. Felt that I was being nickle and dimed for what was otherwise a fantastic resort. Left me with a sour impression of the staff.

Superb facility, staff and amenities. Beautiful clean beach with negligible coral and stones. Safe surroundings and great French cuisine choices. The staff are there to satisfy your needs.
Expedia status and benefits are not honoured and they were unaware that my booking was for All Inclusive- so I had to pay an extra 1000 Euros for breakfast and dinner for 7 days. It was difficult to contact Expedia to address this issue- they had not responded after 7 days to my concerns.

We had a lovely stay at Salt. We were in the room on the 1st floor facing the pool. Meals were amazing, healthy with lots of options starters, mains and desserts; the portions were quite big for me, so I usually either skipped starter or dessert. We tried most of the cocktails as well and absolutely loved them all. We also tried 60-min spa there, it was super relaxing. Staff are nice at Salt, easy to talk to and they even remember the cocktail we love the most! Strongly recommend!

We really liked the hotel. But a few things could be improved:

- The welcome didn’t mention the free water activities or show the gym or roof bar
- The info board did not mention one needed to pre book for the glass bottom boat
- The pricing and quantity of food made ordering at dinner a gamble - pay £20 for a small shrimp cocktail with two shrimp… 2 OR her a very large curry meal

The Bang on Beach and Sea View rooms are worth paying extra for.

We opted for All-Inclusive for simplicity and I'm glad we did as the quality of food and drinks was mostly excellent.

Salt-The Hidden Gim of The East Coast of Mauritius

Me and girlfriend went to Salt of Palmar to have a vacation for 8 days, The staff was so polite, pleasant and helpful from the moment we checked in till the moment we left the hotel, the service was exceptional. The food was so delicious, always fresh and tasty. I will definitely miss it specially the pastries.

The room was always clean and equipped with everything we need, lovely and minimalist interior design with a very good view for the sea.

As someone mentioned before in a previous review the hotel got an Art Deco/Havana vibe - really well designed and decorated with lots of greenery.

Overall we had an amazing stay in this wonderful hotel and we would like to thank all of the amazing staff who helped us to enjoy our stay: Kumar, Vidusha, Sanjay, Vinesh, Bishav, Sandyana and the rest of the crew!

Simply stunning!

I stayed in four hotels during my week in Mauritius and this was hands-down my favourite.

The bright, graphic design of this hotel will provide endless inspiration for enviable vacation photographs!

Rooms are spacious and comfortable, with every amenity available. I especially enjoyed the locally produced beauty products: shampoo, conditioned, hair mask, salt body scrub, body wash, hand wash and lotion! All were amazing!

Most of the staff were really good. Talk to the manager if you need anything, he is so kind and helpful. I was a bit sick one evening, and the restaurant staff were very supportive and professional, and the hotel arranged for a doctor to visit me in my room.

The beach is gorgeous and I also went diving with the dive centre next door and they were amazing professionals. I wish I would have had time to do two dives with them.

The restaurant focuses on local food and I really enjoyed my meals. I especially recommend the fish ceviche and roasted root vegetable salad.

A few small suggestions for improvement:

The hotel tries to function completely on an app/digitally. It's okay for some but others may wish to ditch their phone at least some of the time when on vacation. I really, really miss the simplicity of paper menus.

The spa menu (again, on the app) is a bit confusing and led to a somewhat stressful exchange before my treatment. However, the treatment itself was great.

Looks very overpriced and it’s mysterious for us why the rating is so high.
No one at reception knows what is VIP Expedia benefits. No upgrades, no discounts. We asked the room on high floor before arrival but this was not noted. Room is tiny, toilet is miserable, no freezer and no minibar in the room. The beach is not for swimming at all, not enough sun umbrellas for all guests… we were really disappointed and I don’t even want to recollect all things…

I had a fabulous stay at SALT of Palmar and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Mauritius.
The beautiful design and interiors of the hotel were amazing and the location right on the beach was brilliant.
The staff were the friendliest at any hotel I've ever stayed at. They remembered details of your stay, trips you took, activities you joined in with and showed a genuine interest in ensuring your time at SALT of Palmar was perfect. Nothing was an issue and they went out of their way to help.
Overall I just loved the ethos of the hotel, their focus on sustainability and highlighting the best Mauritius has to offer. SALT of Palmar offers a luxury stay but still retains the culture of the island.

Paradise!

Such a beautiful place to stay! This really felt like a different, much more meaningful holiday. I love the sustainability model and the app technology - everything was at your fingertips and service was in easy reach. Although there's no official welcome desk, staff were always nearby to help, and got to know you on a personal basis.

The bakery and restaurant were excellent - it was lovely to eat pastries with tropical flavours and local specialities. The activities such as learning to bake bread and do pottery allowed for creativity, and the beach and pool were perfect for relaxing. You can do as much or as little as you want, but there are always activities available.
I highly recommend a massage too! (I had two!). The half hour massage turns into an hour with the included salt room and foot scrub (and bespoke products/scents made it extra special).
The best on beach room was an absolute treat - the private terrace and view were honestly so worth it!

The staff also went out of their way to make you feel welcome. Extra thanks to Melanie, Kiran, Nitin, Pushpa and Sanjay for making my stay so special!

Honestly zero complaints, and I can't wait to go back. I'm recommending it to everyone!

I absolutely loved this hotel. It was stunning, the decor was funky and different. I liked the vibe. Right next to the beach. They offer fun activities to do for free! The staff were so helpful and friendly. The only thing that I didn’t like was the fact that the room had no fridge -
I get that they want us to eat fresh but there were times where we would eat inside and outside the resort and the next morning our room would be covered in ants because we’d packed our leftovers. Obviously, that was no ones fault. It just wasn’t expected. Also, there are no TVs in the hotel rooms... which again is fine. But then on the days that it rained I felt like there was nothing for us to do. Even if there were TVs in the lounge area, the bar or restaurant then we could have enjoyed some food/drink and watched sports and at least get out. However, we were in our room watching Netflix on the days that the weather wasn’t so good. But loved this place and I would definitely go there again. Maybe when the weather is good. We went during their winter season.

SALT sets a new standard for luxury from its handcrafted natural bath amenities and incomparably comfortable mattress to the amazing in-house bakery, expert bartenders, and solicitous staff. We especially appreciated their commitment to avoiding single-use plastics, the 24-hr free fresh and sparkling water-dispensing stations, and the bounty of local farmers and fishermen showcased in all their meals. Excellent WiFi bandwidth, too, if you can't simply unplug and enjoy the beach beckoning beyond the poolside bar.

From the first moment I walked in until the moment I checked out, I was super impressed with the personalized customer service and the attention to detail that this ultra modern eco conscious resort offers. The general manager Raj is a genius in hiring the right staff and providing a heavenly ambience along with top notch amenities. The food is exquisite, the cocktails are original and the beach and pool are impeccable. Jessica bent over backwards to make our stay perfect and we are now friends for life, (her chocolate parting gift was so delicious l) and she is a huge asset to the property. I do recommend the all inclusive package to gain maximum value and if available make sure and book the ocean front room, beach bang suite, what a view! All in all, unforgettable! Book your spa services as soon as you check in because they fill up fast. Ask for Pushpa her massage will transport you to Nirvana. The room cleaning staff was awesome too, with the great touch of furnishing fresh bottled water daily. My favorite food was the fresh bread (pide) with seafood or minced lamb meat. Amazing. We also appreciated the vegan options just for variety on the days we wanted to be healthy. I love the app too. You can book horseback riding, mountain bikes, beach jogs, cultural visits to local families and yoga, water gymnastics and beach jogs with their expert personal trainer. We found this to be one of those once in a lifetime visits that will forever go down as one of the best resorts ever

I booked 4 nights & extended for 2 more nights. Such a great experience. If you want the best room, Select the bang for beach option. There is simply nothing like waking up to a sunrise over the Indian Ocean. Spectacular! The rooms have No fridge but ice buckets can chill beverages and they also have no TV but great WiFi so YouTube and Netflix work if you need to stay current on news or movies. The AC works and in August no bugs and perfect weather (75 and sunny). Upon arrival the Olympic sized pool takes your breath away and the friendly staff sits you down with a complimentary beverage and a warm face towel which was a first class touch. Vimla was a sensational guide to the amenities & everyone was very helpful getting me oriented to the amenities, the app based customer service and the environmentally friendly ethos. Two large mineral water bottles per day keep you hidrated and the room service is top notch, the food is divine! I found Mauritius expensive (wine bottles at least $50) and I spent $100/day on food per person. The 90 minute massage is $175 but worth every penny. I rented an ebike in the nearby Belle Mar village for $20/day and the hotel offers a Regular bike for $5/hr. At 2pm you can go on a Free glass bottom boat and there are Free water aerobics classes offered. Great rooftop bar 2for1 drink specials 630-8pm. Thanks Angelo for custom reservation & Jeanmee (best bartender ever!) Check your bill carefully (I am an accountant) so I always do! Book it Bon voyage

Fantastic hotel- Our favourite hotel stay in Mauritius (stayed in 2 other hotels)
Lovely staff that go beyond the call of duty .
Ecofriendly hotel designed with the ethos to minimize use of plastic and be responsible for environment (no paper use, steel reusable bottles given to use throughout stay, woven basket to use to carry towels, no TV, a la carte breakfast instead of buffet) etc etc.
Breakfast is a la carte- some of the nicest food we have eaten and definitely the best in Mauritius. They make everything from scratch including some of the nicest pastries and bread which they are happy to show you in their kitchen. Food is all locally sourced.
We were given complimentary chocolates for Easter and we think they were the best chocolates we have ever had. Unfortunately they don't sell them but were made by the chefs at the hotel. They kindly gave us a few more on the day of our departure. SALT should open a chocolate shop!
